    I'm a Tesla investor and just bought a used 2022 Model 3 long range. I can pay $99 per month for FSD. I think anyone that paid $15K up-front should have FSD for LIFE.

    I have the 2023 Model 3 RWD in the same red that I just got a month ago. Took it on a 1,000 mile road trip within the first 2 weeks. The navigation to each Supercharger couldn’t have been easier. Once you learn the little quirks it becomes addicting to drive. Yours looks to be in excellent condition. Cheers

      Awesome. Glad the first trip was a success. My mom just got a model 3 and I’m still in the process of teaching her the ins and outs. She’s afraid to go on a road trip alone so I’ll most likely ride with her the first time. Lol. The nav does make it easy though. Enjoy your car

    I just started watching your video and I like it already. 85 Thousand Miles is a great testament to the EV’s endurance, quality and enjoyability. I’ve been trading/leasing my Hondas every 3 years, not that they can’t go 100k but if/when they do it means I’ve put a lot of oil, spark plugs, who knows water pumps, brakes, air conditioning and other repairs and maintenance into them and not just Hondas but any ICE car I’ve had and that’s many over the past 50 years. I’ve only had my Chevy Bolt EUV 2 years but it’s flawless and maintenance free. I’m really excited about the new Tesla M3 and I’m going back now to watch the rest of your video.

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  4 месяца назад +3

      So glad I can help. Glad your bolt as been working issue free. I still love gas cars like I’d easily take a Porsche 911 if it was given to me lol but I also love my EVs. I can see myself ever going back. It’s just so convenient to not worry about maintenance and charging at home with my solar. Once the infrastructure is as common as gas stations people will really understand the true benefits. The tech, speed, and drivability is just awesome.

      You’re welcome. I really hope you enjoy the vehicle. If you’ve never had one or an electric car in general there’s a short learning curve but once mastered you probably will never go back to nothing less. It reminds me of the transition to the iPhone in the old smartphone days and how it pushed the tech forward. Tesla is still a relatively new company so make sure you look the vehicle over and make sure it good. Also, ask question if you have any while there. They do have tutorials in the menus but anything comes up feel free to ask me as well.

No rattles, no squeak and it drives really good. I think I was lucky with my purchase. Everything seems to be very good and the battery degradation was about 10%. I intend to buy one or a Model S in the foreseeable future after i leave the Air Force. Most likely from this year unless they make some dramatic upgrades in the next 4 years even after “project highland”. Contemplating on the white or red but if red I’ll definitely have to spec it out with those nice rims and black badge you got with the ppf installed as well and whatever paint additives you applied. The carbon fiber interior is a must. I’ll see what magic i can do with the white :D

    Awesome video! Your ride is gorgeous, I’d never think it had that many miles on it. Tesla just announced a $7500 rebate on Highland long range models so I’m really tempted to make the jump to my first EV. With the rebate it’s under $40k. For a practical all wheel drive vehicle that has almost no maintenance, insane mileage compared to ICE, and can blow the doors off a scat pack on the street this seems like a no brainer at that price.

    The only leather seat option to go with is Katzkin. As someone who does upholstery I see people buy these kinds of kits that give aftermarket leather a bad name. You gotta pay to play, they are not cheap but they are way better. I’ve done quite a few Teslas now. Even done heated and cooled seats on one.

      @Gary_Walker90  8 месяцев назад

      Good to know. I got mine when the 3 was not out long. Being that I heard good things about the company my assumption was that the material would last much longer. It cost somewhere in the 3k ball park. Everything else I got there was fine but for seats probably will go elsewhere.

    Wow! Dog Mode!!! I think you just sold me. I take my little dog everywhere. I leave the Bolt On with AC/Heat set to 72, lock the door and when I get back he’s happy as a clam and cool as a cucumber. I charge at home, 99% of my trips are less than 50 miles and basically I feel like I’m driving for free. My electric bill now itemizes everything so I think it’s between 10 and 15 a month… still free. I pass gas stations except to get snacks or use the RR but yes, the Super Charger network and the whole EV Charge infrastructure will eliminate and range anxiety. Infotainment… you mentioned Apple Music. Can I get Amazon Music? What or how does your Voice Control work? Hey Siri or Alexa or Google or Tesla, Play Classic Rock??? I’d love to see a demo on that. Thanks again for doing a first hand consumer report. It means a lot to someone who’s potentially in the market. Great Job and Thanks Again!

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  4 месяца назад +2

      Tesla currently only has Apple Music, tidal and Spotify in the car infotainment system. Unfortunately not Amazon music, but I’m sure if it stays popular or enough people ask they’ll add that in a future update one day. Voice control is a Tesla built system so no Siri, Alexa or Google. You hit the voice control button on steering will and simply can say “ turn climate to 72 degrees” or “open charge port” or “navigate to Colorado” and it’ll do it while including the charging stops you’ll need to get there. You’re the first person that has ask for a demo on that so I’ll do a short video on the voice controls soon.

    Something to keep in mind, even in the boonies you CAN charge your car with a regular 110 volt outlet (level 1 charging), it will take a long time... about 5 miles an hour, but it will work.

      @Gary_Walker90  7 месяцев назад

      It’s very bad if you have somewhere to go in a short time frame. I quoted me up to 24hrs several times I did that, but I will say in an emergency situation or if you not driving much it’s good to be able to charge pretty much anywhere.

I don’t know if I can part with my car although interested in the new “Highland”. My car is silent as a mouse but it could be that they need to increase consistency. I use autopilot almost everyday and am very comfortable with it. FSD I have too but it does not work as smoothly ( esp. with turns) as I would like. I paid $10k for FSD. • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  9 месяцев назад +1

      Not sure which vehicle you were in, but that non coasting is the regenerative braking. It’s actually convenient once you get use to it. I will say though if you just hate it there’s a setting in the Tesla where you can change it to allow normal coasting. I don’t usually have those waits in the Tesla but I do monitor stations pretty closely when im traveling and make sure I try to stop at less crowded ones if possible. I have had those problems with Electrify America chargers when I rented cars but that’s usually cuz it’s only 4-6 of them and some are broken or you have a really slow charging car like a Chevy bolt on it. The infrastructure definitely has more work to do to keep up with how many cars are getting purchased and Tesla will need to do even more now that other companies will be partnering with them and it won’t be exclusive anymore soon.

    Great review, beautiful car! One question that remains for me, when you hit 80K+ miles, is the battery charge similar to an iphone, have you lost a lot of power, does it drain faster. I would assume that after a full charge, you would get less distance, but wondering if it's really impacting..

    • @Gary_Walker90

      Great question. I can’t feel any difference as far as propulsion or power to be honest. The electronics in the vehicle is powered mainly by the 12V so screen functionality doesn’t feel more sluggish or anything. It actually has improved with SW updates thus far. The high voltage battery has lost some distance but not too much. It still feels brand new for the most part.

    @WT I have a 2020 model RWD. I like what you did to the calipers, nice wheels too. I put PPF on mine too and it’s garage kept, love the car. I’ve added some more mods like coilovers and replaced the front link bushings with solid ones from MPP and UPP. What’d you do to black out the chrome? I did that to mine too, hate the chrome. My door handles are the same body color, I don’t ever see that, don’t know why more people don’t do it. I think it looks better. I also have a set of lightweight aftermarket wheels and performance tires I throw on for autocross racing. One of the reasons I got the model 3 was to get away from oil changes, got tired of having to do them. Sucks that LA has you stick those ugly HOV stickers on the bumper, I’d hate to do that. They won’t let you stick it on the rear windshield?

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  11 месяцев назад +3

      Haha yes I hate those stickers. They actually require it to be on front or back in more areas but I settled on just the back and limited the amount of stickers on the car as it’s terrible but no they won’t allow it on the windshield. Awesome, glad you enjoying the car. I want to do more stuff to it but with so many miles I don’t see the reason to keep investing at this point but it’s been a great car. I’ve seen some people with the handles the same as the body color but your right I don’t see many of them like that. I took the car to rpmtesla and had them put a gloss black wrap on all the chrome including the door handles and the T logos.

    My family is planning on purchasing a new Telsa model 3 before 2023 closes out. One area i would appreciate your personal thoughts on is Telsa security and anti-theft deterence. Do you believe vehicle protection safeguards and features from Telsa are adequate, or should one potentially consider exploring the aftermarket vehicle security market?

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  9 месяцев назад

      Gosh great question. Honestly tesla is one of the best for security and rivian pretty much copied them. Tesla I believe if I’m not mistaken was the first company to offer a dashcam for the car that’s included without purchasing it separately through a 3rd party. In summary Tesla has a feature called sentry mode. It allows the vehicle to use the external cameras and 1 internal camera to monitor the vehicle surroundings. You can set it up so that when you leave your car it will record anytime someone comes near your car, tries to open a door or it is damaged or hit. If that happens it sends an alert to your phone letting you know the security alarm went off. Even if this doesn’t happen you can go into the app and look at the cameras from afar to always check on it if you want. It’s an awesome feature. I also use this for dog mode when I leave my dog in the car as I can check the internal camera to see what he’s doing and that he is safe. I can personally say I enjoy this feature as I’ve been hit twice and each time I’ve had the car recording to show the police for evidence. Hope this helped.

    The ppf definitely helps the red as it sorta warms the color up some and gives it some depth. No ppf it kinda sucks. It’s typically an off red. Especially not worth a 2k up charge for teslas vastly inferior paint to any other automaker in the US. I do wish they’d bring back a classic silver or the mercury grey from Germany (which is think they charge 3k for or so in USD).

The paint being so thin under the front bumper and behind the back wheels that I can see through the paint some. The quality control issues are honestly still my biggest gripe with Tesla. If they could at least match the consistency of a 20k Kia forte from 2017, I wouldn’t really have anything bad to say. The audio system is meh but it’s not the first car I’ve had like that. I noticed several Tesla owners have that, "Access OK Clean Air Vehicle" sticker on theirs. Is it mandatory to keep that on your car or can you peel those off of your own free will? And if you can peel them off... why have so many chosen not too?

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  10 месяцев назад +2

      Thank you. So the stickers on the rear of vehicle are for residents of CA. You have to apply to the state to acquire them which is good for 3 years but it allows you to drive in the HOV lane without having 2 or more people in the vehicle so it’s somewhat an incentive to purchase an electric vehicle. You applying and using the stickers are your own decision and it’s not mandatory but it’s good to have in CA. If you don’t put them on and drive in the HOV lane you will get a ticket. After the 3 years are up you can simply take them off and drive normally as you’ll be unable to drive in HOV lane without passengers once that occurs. Hope that helps.

      That’s hard one. If you’re able to get the tax credit it may not make sense to invest in a vehicle with such high miles especially if you have to get a loan. The loan, being for a used vehicle may have a higher interest rate than buying new. If a new long range RWD is only roughly 5k or so more I would go new. If you don’t get the tax credit I would look for a car with a bit less miles if possible. Not saying anything would be wrong with it but teslas have a warranty until 50k for general issues. If nothing is out there and you see the car and it looks good then you probably will be fine but take it for a test ride and make sure no issues first if possible.

    Any recommendations on buying used? I see some 2018-19 model 3 going between 25-30k with 40-60k+ mileage. I currently have a 2010 Camaro SS gas guzzler just thinking to finally make the transition to electric.

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  10 месяцев назад +1

      I would say first do a test drive. It’s super easy to do through tesla website if you haven’t driven one before. Also, if you don’t have a garage or somewhere to charge it’s hard for me to absolutely recommend an ev just for convenience purposes. If those things check out decide what model you’re looking for. If you’re comfortable with the base model 3 and have access to the federal tax credit you could potentially get one brand new for roughly 32k after you get the credit and at that price I would probably just pay up for the new one as it has a new warranty and it’s fresh. Tesla new inventory cars through the website are being discounted right now especially with the new version coming soon. Now if you want a model 3 performance or something and want a cheaper price then used is probably your best bet for those prices. Just make sure if you do go with used that you test drive it and make sure they get you set up with tesla in the app and stuff as 3rd parties seem to not do good with that at least from what I’ve seen.

    What is the battery degradation? How much range have you lost? I bought the '23 SR LFP. 39K - 7500 credit, which I just got. Tesla gave me 3K for my worthless 2007 Camry, sight unseen. Basically a $30K car. I ppf'd the front and also did the carbon fiber wrap over the wood grain finish. Love how you replaced the chrome emblems with black. I want to do that too. Funny thing, I rented an ICE on vacation and the damn thing started moving as soon as I put it in Drive! I was like, " whoa whoa whoa, why is the car moving? "

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  5 месяцев назад +1

      Awesome. Why was the Camry worthless? lol. Glad you getting stuff done and protecting it and it’s great that prices have fallen so much. I paid 59k for mine in 2018 so it’s wild how low you can get one now. Yes the coasting is something you always have to get used too again along with hitting the brake pedals. My battery has degraded roughly 8% in almost 100k miles. Holding up pretty good which is why I’ll probably just keep it and lease something else on the side if i got something else.

    Is it ok to only use the chargers around you instead of using the one at home if u don’t have a garage?

    • @Gary_Walker90
      @Gary_Walker90  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes. So when I first got mine I didn’t have a garage. My mom actually has one now without a garage. It’s not as convenient when you’re not charging at home depending on how far your daily commute is, but it’s doable. Using slow chargers are better for the battery on a daily basis but using a supercharger is not an issue if that’s your only option. I know some people who do it and it hasn’t really had a negative impact on their battery and like I said when I first got mine I was in the same position for almost a year. Granted my job had a few chargers onsite I could use sometimes but most times I was at a supercharger.
