I work for one of the largest east coast nonprofit venues not run by LiveNation. LN/TM has all but ruined competition in the live entertainment market. There isn’t a big show that LN doesn’t have its hands in, even if that show is at my non-LN/TM venue. We don’t make much when we host the shows they promote (which they shouldn’t even be allowed to do), and they’re a nightmare to work with. They’ve also made working at their venues a miserable experience, from what I’ve heard. Tell me why LN is a multi-billion dollar corporation, but can’t pay their staff a livable wage? It even trickles all the way down to safety and security. I spent $700 for a Hot Girl Summer ticket, and the lack of security actually scared me. I didn’t pay all that money to feel unsafe. Until LN/TM is broken up, these issues are going to get worse. They don’t care about their customers once they sell their tickets. They don’t care about the arts or experiences, and it’s really sad to see. Sorry for the long comment, I just really hate LiveNation and Ticketmaster with every cell in my body 🤗
Thank you for this perspective!! Just 2 weekends ago I think I went to my first concert in my LIFE that Live Nation had no hand in, which is wild. Bc as you said, even the smaller shows are operated by LN/TM. Really hope this changes soon!!
I'm sorry you felt unsafe at a show. Nobody deserves to feel unsafe at a show. Whether it is a festival, club, concert hall, amphitheater, arena or stadium show. I worked as event security including two Live Nation venues. I do not know why they had unsafe conditions at your show. The only show I can think of that I would have felt unsafe at for Live Nation would have been the Knotfest show where they lit the lawn chairs on fire. Mind you I didn't go and am a Slipknot fan, I just think they are idiots that give the maggots a bad name.
@@michaelking761 I appreciate your response! I should have been clearer about the security issue; I don’t place any blame on the folk who actually work these events. Pre-pandemic, security and safety were taken extremely seriously. Now, most venues (mine included) are still trying to recoup their huge losses from 2020-2023, and they’re cutting corners. The underlying issue that no one is talking about is the fact that our (American) lawmakers are okay with monopolies unless it affects their time and money. The man (a lawmaker) who brought this to Congress had a terrible experience purchasing tickets for his daughter and after did an investigation on why it was so terrible which lead him to Live Nation and Ticketmaster merger and shenanigans.
I tried to buy tickets for a kpop tour a few weeks ago and all of the VIP tickets were literally never at face value. As soon as on sale started they were all over $800-1000 for the first like 15-20 rows when face value was supposed to be $250. Platinum/premium ticketing is sooo predatory and also needs to be burned to the ground.
ABOUT F#CK!NG time. I wanted to go see the Renaissance Tour. My ticket was $415 upfront, then after the breathing fee, clicking fee, beyonce instead of michael jackson fee, Renaissance and not B'Day fee, website fee and processing fee - my total was $687 dollars! 🙂↕️
I remember there was a BRIEF moment in recent music history where there seemed to be hope. Lady Gaga got her tickets down to $75. I got to see her ArtRave (2013) concert IN THE PIT UP CLOSE for 75 (Yes, seventy five) dollars. I remember her thanking LiveNation for making this happen. I also remember Prince on George Lopez's talk show in 2011 talking about how tickets for his show were starting at $25 and he also thanked Live Nation for making that happen, while even calling out Ticketmaster for ruining concert prices. This all happened around 2011-2013, then Ticketmaster bought Live Nation and once they started jacking up prices they never seemed to fall, especially post covid.
I've bought $99 tickets in person at arenas the day tickets go sale. Then like a week or so after, tickets are more than doubled on Ticketmaster, plus all them fees. But that was when I lived close to a few big venues. Not many people can buy tickets in person.
TICKETMASTER WILL CRUMBLE!! Lol But I’ve literally gone on the websites and seen the prices, and some people have literally bought the originals or the jacked-up resales and missed the show!!!
TM bought one of my favorite venues, and you can’t avoid the fees by purchasing in person anymore. They don’t do physical tickets anymore. They make you buy online 😭
So glad you mentioned on sale dates being announced like 2 seconds beforehand. That's what really stops me from going to a lot of shows. Sure it drums up a lot of hype and quickly, but is there really that much more benefit than announcing shows a few months out?
it feels like they would actually be able to sell more tickets if they announced the sales in advance because people would be able to plan more ahead of time
It's pretty sad me and a group of friends can't go to concerts anymore. Either it's too expensive, or we can't find seats together. I want to go see Usher in Dallas, but I have decided just to go alone, since no one else can afford the tickets.
I bought a ticket for a small show a few years ago but the artist canceled it due to health reasons, but I still can't get a refund since I used "fake name". I mean the purchase receipt is with the bank, so why can't it be refunded? It was also supposed to be my first concert but from that experience, I'm just scared to go to any paid shows.
Tickets are so expensive. I saw Beyoncé and Taylor Swift and i Love their shows but i can only watch one or two in a year because it's really a lot of money. Music is even more expensive for people like me that still want to buy cds or a vinil. I saw a vinil of Beyoncé in my country at 80 euros, trust me it's a lot.
Last year I bought tickets to a K. Michelle show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. I went to her site to purchase the tickets and it redirected me to AXS. I thought it was strange so I didn’t get the tickets right away. I consulted with my friend group and we all thought it was some type of scam. Something told me to try and purchase the tickets from the venue site. Same thing, I was redirected to AXS. So I called the venue and asked them if this was legit and they said yes. So I purchased my tickets. K ended up canceling the show due to low ticket sales (which I thought was strange because K. Michelle comes to Milwaukee often and easily sell’s out a small theater each and every time). Then it dawned on me that maybe other people didn’t trust the site either because they’d never heard of it. It was then I realized then that TicketMaster has no comp.
That’s funny you say that bc a couple months ago me and some friends went through the same thing (but still bought the tickets). Saw AXS while researching and was like whos this??? Such a good point we’re all so used to the hold Ticketmaster has we’ve become hesitant even buy tickets through other companies, the devil you know type stuff
Yup, praying on the TM and LN monopoly downfall. I used to be able to easily go in during a presale and buy tickets, but recently I haven't even been able to get into the waiting room! Sending an endless amount of log in codes that all end in error messages and that's before the highway robbery that is "dynamic ticket pricing" and breathing fees. Like, how are they even allowed to increase the price of tickets mid-sale? So nasty. I had the WORST experience trying to buy tickets to All Things Go Fest a couple of months ago. The tickets were basically gone 3 minutes into the presale, the general sale was merely for show and now tickets that were initially under $300 originally are being resold for over $1000 🙃 Oh, and it looks like people who managed to buy them thru TM are getting emails accusing them of being bots and are getting refunded the cost of their tickets weeks after the fact. I'm tired.
I literally went to a Samara Joy concert last night (she was AMAZING as always) but the venue was completely paperless and you could only get your tickets through Ticketmaster. I didn’t necessarily mind not being able to buy the tickets directly from the venue but what did hate was that Ticketmaster doesn’t let you print out your tickets. If I hadn’t put the tickets on my Apple wallet then I would’ve been stuck at the door trying to log back into my account because the app decided it didn’t want to work once I was inside the building. Plus I like to keep the tickets from shows/concerts that I go to so only being able to see them on the app sucks.
I traveled from outside of the US to see Beyonce in Houston for RWT....the cost of the seat I actually wanted would have been almost as much as my flight to the US....😪....
I bought tickets for me and my dad to go see Journey, Def Leppard, and the Steve Miller Band this summer and luckily there’s not as much demand for older bands so the tickets didn’t sell out, but they ended up being like $250 for both after all the fees and stuff for like the cheapest section. My Hella Mega tour ticket was like $75 for way better seats at the same stadium. Ticketmaster has gotten way worse just in the past 5 years
The stress of getting Melanie Martinez tickets was crazzzzyyy😭 i dont live in the eu/us so I’ve never really went to a concert and I wasn’t familiar with ticket master at ALL. so she basically made the presale 6 months early (March, my concert is in sept) and when I tell u the STRESS was real😭 We are 4 ppl so it’s pretty hard to get 4 tickets seated next to each other and I was literally a day late on presale bc we weren’t even sure we were gonna go in the beginning of the school year.. then I barely found tickets (it kept giving me 5 minute timers) and our card literally canceled like 3 times and I almost lost the tickets but then it finally went through. It was 1000$... (5000 for us) BFFR. our country doesn’t use Ticketmaster and the tickets are literally 25-100$ MAX.
The "dynamic ticket pricing" that Ticket Master has is incredibly disgusting. The more in demand the tickets are, the cost of the tickets go up. This isn't on a resale market either, but directly from the main seller. This is how I ended up paying $140 with fees per ticket for Taylor Swift, but other people right next to me paying several hundred more dollars per ticket. It is important to acknowledge that doing the dynamic ticket pricing is a CHOICE by the artist themselves. It's not the venue, it is not ticket master, but the artists themselves. I went to the same venue to see Ed Sheeran as I did Taylor Swift and floor GA ticket I bought was the same exact price as it was when my sister bought them several months before. So it wasn't the venue, wasn't ticket master. It was Taylor Swift who chose to do the dynamic pricing, same with Olivia Rodrigo. I get it from a business perspective, but if you genuinely cared about your fans getting tickets, you wouldn't directly price gouge your fans for tickets.
Whenever I have gotten a code and set an alarm and everything, I know it's useless to try because they'll be snatched up in the first minute. I add them to the cart and try to check out and it's "sold out" and I watch as the seats slowly disappear in chunks. That's been the case for me every time. So I have to wait until they hit the other sites like everyone else.
ill never forget jbs purpose tour msg. i was 17ish. i got tix from mom's friend's coworker bc her daughter went on a trip instead. we go to scan, they were already used!! Genuinely, it’s outrageous, esp often hearing in places like Europe tix will be remarkably cheaper sometimes… but I guess at least we still get the chance to go bc a lot of tours don’t even come to whole continents, or they’ll get a date or 2
@@naomi.cannibal True. They never come to eastern Europe. So your best bet is Berlin, Vienna or worse Cologne. So you have to prepare some travel money ! They started coming to Warsaw more so I hope it will change soon 🤞
@@richardfoldes7793 a lot of major artists in the US will only go to NFL stadiums and my state doesn't have an NFL team so me and my family have to drive around 6 hours one way to get to the closest venue. For hotels, we often get Airbnbs since those are more affordable for large groups. But yeah, an event that if it was in town would cost less than $1000 costs at least $2000 with travel, accommodations, and food, depending on the size of group you are with.
I’d love to hear you talk about merch prices. I know that tour merch is set higher, but Lady Gaga wanted $45 for a simple Chromatica t-shirt PLUS $21 shipping even in the US. That’s insane.
i think also due to inflation we just don’t have a lot of extra money for non-essentials like entertainment, so fewer people are going to concerts. live-streaming a concert real time sounds like a good idea, and i know some kpop artists have live-streamed their concerts during the height of covid, so they can follow distancing protocol. the issue is finding a good website to host the concert, so the stream doesn’t crash and lag constantly due to the high volume of traffic
A few things, Seat Geek is actually a ticket seller for State Farm Stadium in Glendale. They do resale yes, but they also do initial sales as well. The problems with Taylor Swift is that similar issues happened with Olivia Rodrigo's Guts tour. The problem was a lot of fans including myself did not even get a code to try and buy a ticket. The problem was there was too much demand for her shows. I commented that she had too much demand on the main subreddit for her and I get flamed over how Billie Ellish doesn't do stadiums and Olivia wanted to move to arenas before stadiums. I responded that she didn't read the room and demand correctly. A number of areas got two to three shows, others only got one.
I'm not really into concerts... why would I pay so much to "see" them in person when I can see and hear them much better on my computer screen on RUclips. My hearing doesn't get destroyed, I don't have to deal with the hassle and discomfort of crowds. Which is why it blows my mind that Coachella DOES stream online. Like I get a way better and more comfortable seat AND it's free?? Sign me up! But I agree that for full scale single artist concerts a payed stream would be a great idea.
i just saw deko and yameii play a festival of their own, Dreams fest. Deko streamed the whole show for free on twitch which i loved! More artists should def do this.
I think a few artists were definitely in on this monopoly. Artsists don't make as much money through albulm sales because albums aren't physically sold anymore instead they rely on streams. And it can vary on how much money an artists makes through streams depending on the platform (spotify, pandora, apple music). So now artists rely more on making money through their concerts or ticket sales. A few artists were definitely in on this ticket scheme.
3 times using ticket master for tickets, biggest act in early 2000's, next time in 2014, and 2016 before getting bad or worst problems around the merger of live Nation/ ticketmaster thing
So many concerts to go to but not with all these fees. Let's face it, Beyoncé Gaga and Taylor and so on are not gonna be doing more personal concerts lol.
This might be a niche problem and also maybe even a privileged thing to say, since continental Europe is generally a place where most artists do tour, but it bothers me when artists don’t disclose what areas they intend on covering during a tour. Here’s a concrete example: Slayyyter and Rebecca Black each released one of my top favorite albums of 2023 and both of them only did shows in the UK & Ireland. I kept waiting for more European dates to be announced, but that never happened. Had I known from the start that these were their complete European legs of their tours I could’ve potentially saved up and taken the trip over to the island. Now I didn’t get to see Starf*cker and Let Her Burn live. ☹️
I’m so mad I couldn’t get tickets to Lana Del Rey at Fenway. It sold out within minutes. Ticketmaster and Livenation is gonna have to pay for their war crimes
Little Mix did the stream it needs to be the norm, as not every act is international, health issues, autistic it solves the problem and can be fun too x
yupyupyuppityyup. Paramore at the Kia Forum.. not the best seats but paid an astronomical amount for 2 tickets. at the actual venue, a large majority of the “pit” was empty.. I could’ve realistically bribed a security to let me into the pit with the amount of money I paid..

I’m going to Megan concert next week. I’ll be the first concert i attended. I’m planning on going to tems concert next hope I can still get tickets🙏🏾
i just saw deko and yameii play a festival of their own, Dreams fest.
Even for us here in Uae and Dubai they have a semi monopoly.......
positions/eternal sunshine tour WE WILL BE SAT !!
3 times using ticket master for tickets, biggest act in early 2000's, next time in 2014, and 2016 before getting bad or worst problems around the merger of live Nation/ ticketmaster thing
So many concerts to go to but not with all these fees. Let's face it, Beyoncé Gaga and Taylor and so on are not gonna be doing more personal concerts lol.
nope, I am so lucky I got to see Gaga in like 2010, cause I’m store the prices are outrageoussss now, I watched chromatica recently from my bed lol
TM got so much of my coin the last 2 years. I had some dope tickets for Keke Palmer, Beyoncé, FLO, Lil Nas X, and Janet Jackson.
Yeah i remember last year beyhive and swiftie clocked their tea.
5:28 this is literally how i got my ateez tickets!
Looking gorg as usual
thank you! 💕
This might be a niche problem and also maybe even a privileged thing to say, since continental Europe is generally a place where most artists do tour, but it bothers me when artists don’t disclose what areas they intend on covering during a tour. Here’s a concrete example:
Slayyyter and Rebecca Black each released one of my top favorite albums of 2023 and both of them only did shows in the UK & Ireland. I kept waiting for more European dates to be announced, but that never happened. Had I known from the start that these were their complete European legs of their tours I could’ve potentially saved up and taken the trip over to the island. Now I didn’t get to see Starf*cker and Let Her Burn live. ☹️
i hope the FTC keeps taking these companies down or at least trying anyway (love your content btw, newish sub here)
I’m so mad I couldn’t get tickets to Lana Del Rey at Fenway. It sold out within minutes. Ticketmaster and Livenation is gonna have to pay for their war crimes
Little Mix did the stream it needs to be the norm, as not every act is international, health issues, autistic it solves the problem and can be fun too x
I really hope so

FETCH ME TICKETMASTER'S SOUL! (If it has one)
Let's join the Akatsuki
❤❤❤
yupyupyuppityyup. Paramore at the Kia Forum.. not the best seats but paid an astronomical amount for 2 tickets. at the actual venue, a large majority of the “pit” was empty.. I could’ve realistically bribed a security to let me into the pit with the amount of money I paid..
„Ticket“ is not a word anymore. 🫠🫣😂
