I’ve worked with large concert venues for over a decade, and I’m really glad this is being talked about. When we were recalled back to work in 2021, everything felt different. Audiences are meaner, ticket prices are higher, and the shows themselves usually don’t justify the price. Something has to give.
Worst concert for me was 2022 when I was bullied out of my seats by some really drunk chick and her posse and not because they wanted better seats. They were trying to sucker a friend into moving to Saskatchewan so they could build them a house nothing more. Just an excuse to pressure friends into a bad business deal.. All in the middle of COVID in a place where out of 10,000 people? I was one of 3 people in masks... And not because I love them or are paranoid. I have a terminal illness and it leaves me immune compromised... Needless to say I am pretty much done with crowded or stupid venues after that... Private box seats or I don't go now....

I saw The Dan Band (Old School movie), so a ton of the audience only knew the 2 songs from the movie. So for the ENTIRE CONCERT, they talked at normal volume, to the point where you couldn’t hear the band. People were pissed, and the band was pissed. And this was in 2009? And in Houston. @@Kbee1697 I currently live in a small town in Iowa but the one I’m going to this year is the Lincoln show. Last stop of the tour. All those extra fees really don’t help the cost.
That is one of the main reasons why I am seeing non-popular artists getting a lot of attention and not JLO or Justin Timberlake. One artist I would love to see live is Benson Boone before he has another song of his blowing up.
The death of concerts is because of greed. An artist i watched live before they blew up, had front row seats for $50. Recently he came back to my hometown and they were playing at the same venue. For nostalgias sake I wanted to buy the same front row seat and the ticket was $380. I can afford it, I've been blessed with the opportunity to run my own successful business but I related to this artist because we we both home grown poor snotty kids. He let greed take over and now I don't really support his music. Bummed out I decided to see what other concerts would happen in my area and prices for people who get less that 100k monthly listeners were asking $120 as entree fee to clubs or venues. That's kinda the issue with live concerts. Scuff during a live show is inevitable, but nobody wants to spend a ton of money to see someone make a big mistake on stage, so studio brains say if they lip synch, they're perfect 100% of the time. Bring the costs down??? Don't be absurd!

I've been to one concert. J Cole's KOD tour back in 2018. Took this woman I was seeing with me. Total was $350. Worth every penny. Never been to another concert since. I'm not paying outrageous prices when artists are either late, cancel, or don't put in the effort. I envy those who witnessed Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Elton John, or AC DC live. Concerts back in the day must have been unbelievably awe inspiring and worthy to be cherished until the end of time.
Two weeks ago, my Dad and I went to see John Sebastian and Jimmy Vivino at a small venue and it was great. Two guys, with their guitars, telling stories and singing songs. We didn't need to sell one of our kidneys for tickets too.
AC/DC ,Elton John and Michael Jackson were in the 1970s before computers were a thing and Definitely Before Cable television was invented. Not just talented musicians but also Gifted musicians. Important to know : 1. They had to Prove themselves with many many many Live performances Before getting any record deal . 2. Most of the time we didn't know what the musicians looked like until we either bought an album that featured a photo of them, were popular enough to get on Television, or go to a performance/concert. It was much more exciting to love musicians because it was a more mysterious journey . 3. That was called Paying Your Dues. In the 1980s the Birth of Cable Television increased the chances for more musicians to get noticed as technology was advancing While still having to Pay Your Dues. That's why Whitney Houston's live performance singing the National Anthem is Still the Best National Anthem sung Ever to this very day , around 30 years ago. 4. Prices were much cheaper AND there used to be Free Summer Concert Festivals. This alone made it more fun because you could go with a group of friends , family , couples , stag by yourself), or whatever. Plus you didn't have prepay or reserve tickets just in case a last minute friend wanted to go to or you didn't get paid until that day , no problems just walk up to the booth at the event and enjoy.
@@HumanBeing1974 100% agree, especially points #2 and 4. When people spoke about these artists, there was a bit of mysterious wonder behind who wrote, recorded and performed the classic masterpieces. Today, it seems everybody has a giant team of producers and writers. I'm sure those in the past actually took time to perfect their craft ON THEIR TERMS.
@marcusfenix9534 That's why Prince had a voice. He lived the musican life 1970s, 1980s up until his death. He lived those industrial changes. His voice is still important today. He was one of the very few that not only spoke about it , he defended himself. So did Twisted Sister. Twisted Sister took it to another level because they stood up to the government and defended everyone who is a musician and their fans. Not too many get mad respect like back in the day. Plus musicians from the past also dabbled in rebel music. Lyrics that protested things , cried and told true events real story tellers. Singers used to be the one voice that had true freedom of speech. They helped us say what needed to be said. Ancient story telling was usually performed simutamiously with song and dance. Native Americans are famous for this very thing. Thanks for replying 🙂 Keep Rocking and learning. I will do the same.
if michael jackson was able to keep his prices low whilst being the most well renounced artist ever, i dunno why other artists can’t. I mean, what the heck is $1000 when i can just, idk….pay my rent? get airpods? speakers? that i can reuse? I’ll pass on the lacklustre concert
I refuse to pay these overpriced bullshit prices… I rather miss out. We work so hard to make rent and they expect us to throw away hundreds in one night?
Too many artists are not serious about their craft. I saw Prince in concert 6 times in my lifetime. He was a craftsman. Today, some popular artists are social media driven, marketing fluff who cannot perform live. Who wants to spend hundreds of dollars on garbage.
The prices be wildest thing about concerts no one’s paying 500 to 1000 just to see any mainstream artists unless you wanna be at the top where you can’t see much
I'm that old guy now saying, "Back in my day we'd pay $20 to see Guns n Roses with Metallica," now I'm paying $100 for "not as awesome" shows. It's gotta catch up to them eventually and I guess that's now.
Metallica would be a hard sell for me to see these days. Metallica the Black Album tour was my first real concert and my ticket was $25. The whole stadium tour with the giant bouncing balls that fall out of the tubes is a bit over the top for me.
Well thats just also regular inflation too a Metallica show 15 years ago was already easily 60/70 bucks. GNR first reunion before covid was steep at 100 but the show lasted 3 hours so worth it. But now just mid-tier metal acts like avenged sevenfold and trivium is 70 bucks aswell.
I mainly avoid concerts because a lot of the famous artists nowadays are pretty musically untalented, where you know they're going to sound bad live (and if you're lucky sound average) and where the performance aspect boils down to "look at me, I'm so great". Might as well just turn on spotify. I've been going to rock concerts recently and it's always been an amazing night, the instruments sound better live, you can see the talent, energy is insane and the performance is electrifying. It actually adds something to the experience of sitting at home with the music on. Plus tickets are usually a lot cheaper since they're less mainstream.
Went to the Taylor Swift show earlier this year in Australia, and it was pretty good considering there were like 90k people there. We could see everything properly with the massive screens, and the sound was good too, especially for live singing.
I think the biggest issue is that the internet and social media makes all artists think their fan base is bigger than it actually is in reality. Most of these artists should be doing clubs and concert halls. Not arenas and stadiums.
Thissss - they forget the “buy in” for social media follows is next to nothing. There’s a world of difference between mindlessly scrolling for free and investing real time and money in an artist
@@ThatIrishRose317exactly!!! And when you combine the change in the music industry and the way people consume music, it is a sketchy situation overall. You rewind 20 years, and fans would invest in you by buying your album. And they would know it from front to back because that $15 purchase was BIG! Had to go to the store, spend your money, and it would be stuck in your CD player for at least a week or two until you bought another album. iTunes changed that to single songs for a buck, and now social media changed it to 30 second snippets for free .99. Your biggest demo of consumers (teenagers) have never even heard the second verse of your biggest “hit” 😂
Said the same thing about a football game. We lost and everything and we stood outside the venue for like 45 mins waiting for the Uber and then another 45 to the hotel that was down the street.
Find small local venues in your area and follow their social media! Some venues even have free shows. I've discovered bands I love by just showing up to shows of artists I'd never heard of
I live in Mississippi. Any concert o want to see is at least a couple hours drive. Every time I want to see an artist, I have to book a $200+ hotel/airbnb, buy the $80+ ticket, and drive to see 3 hours of openers and 1 hour of whoever I bought tix for. I’ve even driven 2.5 hours to a Lana Del Ray concert on a THURSDAY and then drive back home to go to sleep at 2am. I’m just a bigger fan of festivals. It’s more expensive but it’s 3 days of concentrated entertainment.
1978….i was 20 years old….took a summer job setting up stadium shows at our local arenas….we did a show with Journey, Foghat, Bryan Adams and a very popular regional group, Zebra. 18 tractor trailers of equipment….took all week to set up, but as soon as show was over, we had about 24 hours to strike setup and get gear on the road to next show. It was HOT. We got paid $5 an hour, cash, and all the bunk weed we could smoke. Journey was PHENOMENAL, sounding better live than on record. So here I am 50 years later, retired , working a couple of shows a month at a local 10k seat gulf coast arena. Not many shows left . Last month we did a show with the remaining geriatric members of ZZ Top and Journey. It was good, but just not the same vibe of those shows in the ‘70s and 80s….last week it was a near sellout for Five Finger Death Punch and Marilyn Manson….nice crowd…good tips!!
Local production stagehand here. It’s mainly production costs, insane venue fees, and high ticket prices make alot of consumers hesitant to purchase. But mainly production costs and logistics. These shows cost ALOT OF MONEY to put on. The gear alone can make or break a show not even counting paying the 100+ man crew that HAVE to get paid either which way. It’s an entire concoction of problems, pretty hard to pin point a specific cause.
Concerts and sporting events used to be entertainment for the common man. Now they are luxuries that only the rich get to enjoy. No wonder so many sports teams are having money problems right now.
2024 feels very 2008 for those who were around for that hot mess of a year... I was... Working two jobs and taking Summer night classes during my gap in Uni... It was a nightmare of a year that feels doomed to repeat!
@Hibbs4Prez the current administration going "uh actually" to a definition that was unchanged for decades before hand for recession doesn't change the fact everything is unaffordable.
The amount of people I've seen on TikTok that will complain loudly about ticket prices being ridiculously high only to then buy VIP tickets to multiple stops anyway is actually insane. Like, you're part of the problem?! I'm not spending $700 on a concert (tickets + travel + hotel) and if people keep spending that money, they show the labels that the prices are okay and that people are willing to pay that
I love your JLO analysis. I'm no fan, but I was stunned when she cancelled her tour with the 'needing to spend more time with the family ' excuse. I was thinking about all that went into a tour and the contracts, and I was wondering how she could just blow all that away. Then someone clued me in that the real reason was that tickets weren't selling. Then it clicked for me.
I find it funny how some of yall are like "Nicki's old and fell off" or "Doja fell off and she's demonic and a weird" yet these two are some of the only popular artist in the industry that aren't canceling shows due to low ticket sales.
Another part of the problem is because these days anyone can become an "artist". Which means the market gets saturated which means the quality decreases. Back in the day the only way to make it was to do the hard yards going from town to town in a crappy bus playing in shitty pubs and clubs in the hope you might one day get there. This process weeded out the bands with talent from the others which means only the really good bands made it. It also means you needed a catalogue of good songs. Now people get famous for a song going viral but then they have no other songs to back it up. Which is why no one wants to pay exorbitant amounts of money to see them.
This video makes me feel better in a sense to know I’m not going crazy trying to purchase concert tickets, I have been having these thoughts on how CRAZY EXPENSIVE they are now. I am sadden to know it probably won’t get any better soon :( all we can do is hope bc greed plays A HUGE factor
I can’t think of anything more soul destroying than slogging through a tour and at the end of it losing money or barely breaking even (and you’d be surprised how many artists that happens to). 💀
Its a market correction which is happening in all areas of the economy. McDonalds charging 20 bucks for a double quarter pounder meal made people avoid McD. Prices keep going up and it hits a breaking point. When people are struggling to pay rent, they arent paying 500 dollars to see some artist lip sync/autotune their way through their best hits.
Thank you!! This is what I wanted because even looking at the situation before making the video I was like it can’t JUST be that, there has to be a little more here
honestly it’s not even that the standard ticket prices are too high. the thing that ruins it is ticketmaster with the “platinum tickets” that single handily ruins purchasing tickets
A ton of people said that this would happen if Live Nation and Ticketmaster are allowed to merge. Politicians were probably paid to let them do it anyway.
Concerts are doing just fine. Hip hop concerts however are hurting due to poor performing acts and lack of interest. Hip hop sales are down also so it makes sense. Morgan Wallen, Taylor Swift, and etc are doing just fine.
It’s nothing but a pure example of how bad the economy is. There are many tours happening at once and we can’t afford them‼️ I have been to over 40 concerts, but none this year.
I'm not paying 350 dollars for crap seats for a most likely crap show. The economy is screwed. Who can afford that? Even bands that aren't very big are too expensive
I grew up in a very music centric family. I grew up sheltered but my one bargain for freedom was “it’s my birthday/christmas I want to go to a concert” From age 13-19 I went to Ozzfest every summer and a rave every winter. That included money for food drinks and T shirts. I hate that I pray my kid isn’t into music like me and my husband because I know I can’t provide that for him now. Even with us both working good jobs. I seen SoAD headline at Ozzfest(with 12 other bands) in 2008 for $40. Went and seen them last summer and it cost us $750 Its extortion
When people are willing to pay the ridiculous ticket prices for Taylor Swift & other artists and Ticketmaster etc know that it's okay. We are a lot to blame for it. It's the abuse of fan culture. Record companies see it as if fans are willing to buy multiple versions of an album to complete the set or photocards then we can charge crazy prices for tickets. If people stop paying the prices they will have no choice but to be more affordable.
Too many times I’ve seen people complain about artist running late and leaving the shows early and people feeling like they’re not getting moneys worth …no one’s gonna waste their hard earned money for a disappointment
Because most times the resellers who aren’t even fans of the artists themselves would sell out the tickets just to resell them at a higher price rate and these ticket sites don’t even believe in refunds. I’m sorry but spending $1k for one seat just to be in an overcrowded stadium where anything can go wrong is crazy.
Just went to ATEEZ concert at Citi Field Saturday and it was packed even after everyone got soaked in torrential rain and a 2 hour delay. K-pop fans are dedicated they will show up no matter what.
And thats why I love being an EDM raver, no Tiktok mainstream artists random hype, no high cost tickets, no artists being 4 hours late and music and visuals are absolutely gorgeous

i do think she is one of the artists we are told is an A-List star but no one is really checking for her music like that. I like her music too but her numbers don’t really equate the hype around her.
See that's the thing, she's actually great live. It's her management and the fact that her company is setting her up to fail. They want to do these oversized venues on purpose. I do agree she's probably not that big overseas but she's definitely big enough over here.
So thankful Robert Smith from The Cure fought Ticketmaster to keep ticket sales low and I was able to see them for $30! If he can do it, other artists can too but they’re too greedy… this is why I mainly go to small local shows and see smaller bands that are way more talented 🖤
for me, other than prices, is that artist are abit shit nowadays, putting no effort into either their singing or performance, and the fans literally just film. They don’t even move, sing along or do virtually anything but film
Whoa... I did not know that Live Nation loaned the tour costs to the artists. Wow! So certain celebrities over the decades talking about how dirty the music industry is & how broke so many artists are, they were not exaggerating at all. How are they supposed to make a living???
If I’m going to a concert it either has to be an artist I really like a lot or a list of artist I can tolerate with consideration of the fan bases & the area of the show. The real big issue is the prices, majority of the time the tickets are too expensive.
My first concert was Rush in 85, cost me 10$. Now tickets are $300-1,000. There no one I wanna see that bad anymore. Guess I’m just getting old. Good luck on your channel.

@@kidxvintage no there are some of us out there, I think we are part of the Mass Live company but we also work with Concert Crave and other promoters but not with Live Nation
Maybe it’s because shows aren’t really live anymore? Pre-recorded backing tracks? Vocal miming? Fake stacks of cabinets when they’re really pumping digital signals through the venue’s PA? All these take away from a truly live experience. There’s no feeling the thump of the air out of the speakers. There are no tempo changes because you can’t do that with a backing track. Not to mention everyone holding their phones up recording instead of actually taking in the show. It’s no longer the experience it once was.
0:06 concerts are not dying. But I will say there’s a difference between celebrities now and years ago people don’t care about the craft. They just care about the money. That’s the problem. If you don’t care about the craft, your show is gonna be ass.
Let me give you a bit of history on this. During the late 70s and all the way through the 1980s, there were bands that filled arenas everywhere they went, 20k 30k and 50k seat venues..... but by the 1990s no one could sell out an arena, in fact many of the biggest bands couldn't even sell out 1000 seat venues. Now with streaming services and greedy ticket agencies, along with the high cost of running these venues makes it impossible for the average fan to afford a ticket. When people are living paycheck to paycheck they aren't interested in forking over 2 weeks worth of income to see their favorite 'artist' cone to town and lipsych while the CD is playing in the background.... Also one has to wonder if these people are actually getting the millions of views or spins of their song by actual people or if all the views are bot accounts and computer farms with a thousand computers just downloading these songs on repeat. DJs in the past would get paid by the record companies to play thr records over and over to generate hype. So it can not be possible for songs to get hundreds of millions of spins in a few weeks... who listens to this garbage music...
I went to the Ateez concert recently and despite the fact that tickets were expensive it didn't compare to the cost of tickets for something like a Taylor Swift concert. The arena was pretty packed and the show was good. It was clear that the performers put all their energy into the performance so the cost of the ticket was worth it. Granted I only went because I really wanted to go and I knew that the group could perform live really well.
Honestly tickets are so expensive now, that’s why I don’t go as much. I have to choose 1-2 concerts to attend per year. I chose Hans Zimmer which was literal hundreds, and a music festival. That Billi Eylish, she’s old news already right?
$80??? what concert are you going to ? More like $280
I’ve worked with large concert venues for over a decade, and I’m really glad this is being talked about. When we were recalled back to work in 2021, everything felt different. Audiences are meaner, ticket prices are higher, and the shows themselves usually don’t justify the price. Something has to give.
Absolutely!

Metallica would be a hard sell for me to see these days. Metallica the Black Album tour was my first real concert and my ticket was $25. The whole stadium tour with the giant bouncing balls that fall out of the tubes is a bit over the top for me.
The prices went 10X because of inflation.

When the prices get too high people should just say NO. Same with Cars, SUVs and Houses.
Bro, literally none of the “stars” are even on my playlist.
they aren't that good
Local production stagehand here.

I love your JLO analysis. I'm no fan, but I was stunned when she cancelled her tour with the 'needing to spend more time with the family ' excuse. I was thinking about all that went into a tour and the contracts, and I was wondering how she could just blow all that away.

Same honestly any other genre of live music experience feels lackluster in comparison to metal shows
Brother lemme just say, you make some of the highest quality content in the RUclips music space. Everything from the script to the editing is immaculate. Just keep your head down and keep pumping those videos out and you’re surely gonna blow up big time. Love your content
Appreciate that!! More on the way!!
I saw Christopher Cross live last Thursday. Sold out theater, packed venue, legendary. You haven’t lived until you’ve sang along to “Sailing” with a packed theater.
Live Nation does suck, it limits the venues... My venue doesn't have access to somany artists because them
ohh so you’re not at a LN venue?
@@kidxvintage no there are some of us out there, I think we are part of the Mass Live company but we also work with Concert Crave and other promoters but not with Live Nation
You're a master in the art of "the turn of a phrase"! Loved this video.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!
Megan’s arena tour was sold out and she did multiple shows in some cities. She has a good fan base that supports her.
It was free tickets. Not sold out.
They were discounted 😂😂. Sold at cheaper prices than the original ones😂😂
I saw a financial clip the other day where the person seeking advice got a loan…… For concert tickets. 🤷🏽🤷🏽
There is genuienly nothing more depressing than seeing the state of music and live concerts as a new artist.
very sad
Depends on the artist/band.
It's all of entertainment in general. It's sad. From movies, to music, to games
Hmmmm
@@kidxvintage yup
Big up small concerts by small artists
always fire
most people go to concerts to just record videos on thier phone. nobody attends a concert to just enjoy the show/music anymore.
So it can not be possible for songs to get hundreds of millions of spins in a few weeks... who listens to this garbage music...
wasn't metallica selling out arenas well into the 2000s?
$125 ticket plus $69 for fees. Sounds like a good time for about an hour and a half.
its just completely insane
@@kidxvintage and this isn’t even GA, I remember Lawn Tickets for Noah Khan in Portland was $240 plus $70 fees. LMFAO.
Your edits are crazy bro.
Thank you!
Honestly tickets are so expensive now, that’s why I don’t go as much. I have to choose 1-2 concerts to attend per year. I chose Hans Zimmer which was literal hundreds, and a music festival. And the only reason I’m dropping this much money on Hans Zimmer is because it might be my last opportunity to see him (he’s getting older, and doesn’t normally come to my country). And I know I’ll cry a lot lol
dude we’re literally in a recession thats it
i agree but then taylor can sell tickets just fine? its a lot of factors
