  • It's the final video guys, and the last game in The Legend of Spyro series - Dawn of the Dragon! I'm equally relieved and sad this is over, and I hope you appreciate the work that's gone into this one. If you do, be sure to leave a like!

    Dawn of the Dragon was released in late 2008 but it wasn’t made by the developers of A New Beginning and The Eternal Night. Instead Krome Studios handed the reins over to Étranges Libellules. Krome Studios began work on the final instalment of The Legend of Spyro series but due to a limited budget they were forced to reuse assets from the previous two games.
    While this third game was technically finished, Krome Studios were so disappointed with the results that EL were brought in to rebuild the game from scratch. EL decided the cartoonish look of previous Spyro games wouldn’t fit their revamped story so Spyro and friends got an upgrade. Or a downgrade, depending on your point of view.
    Spyro’s toned up quite a bit, evening out his face and body features so he looks less like a winged stick with big head mode on, and more like the legendary purple dragon he’s supposed to be. Cynder’s been changed up too. While she was a cute little chunky monkey with stumpy legs in The Eternal Night, she’s been thinned out a lot in Dawn of the Dragon, with longer limbs and a narrow angular face, probably to make her bear more of a resemblance to her adult form we saw in A New Beginning.
    So what did I think of Dawn of the Dragon? Well to reiterate what I said at the beginning of this video - I LOVED playing this game. Yes it has its flaws, but not enough to mark it as a terrible game, and the positives far outweigh the negatives. The story kept me interested and was truly epic, the areas for the most part were well designed and gorgeous to look at, the combat - while tedious at times - was far more engaging than in the previous two games, having the choice to play as Spyro or Cynder was a breath of fresh air, and I loved the relationship the two had together.
    Having prior knowledge that Spyro and Cynder would eventually fall in love had me rolling my eyes at first, but the relationship grew on me as time went by. The quiet moments where Spyro comforts a frightened Cynder, or when she reassures him he isn’t alone; they were some of my favourite exchanges in the entire game. Even Sparx, arguably the most irritating character in The Legend of Spyro series, had some memorable moments. Leaving him behind before traveling through the Belt of Fire really hurt my soul.
    The PS2 version definitely needs work however. Knowing how beautiful the game is on next gen makes me desperately want to get my hands on a PS3 copy and give it another go, not just for the graphics, but also because there’s so much I missed out on seeing and doing. There are all the collectables I absentmindedly walked past, those nasty elite enemies that I avoided like the plague, and apparently some nifty armor sets that give the two dragons permanent Aether.
    You know what, I’m kinda sad. I’ve been working on this video for the past couple of weeks, what with playing the game, writing a script and editing it all together, and knowing this was going to be the longest video yet I couldn’t wait to get it done. But now it’s actually sunk in that this is the last Spyro game I needed to do a video on….

    Re: dragon time
    Spyro is actually the primeval dragon Akatosh (god of time) and all the Spyro games occur in the same universe as the Elder Scrolls. Malefor gets locked in a crystal prison until he emerges centuries later as Alduin. The entire Khajiit race is descended from Hunter.

    The ending when Malefor gets sucked into the "earths core" is him getting trapped in the convexity. Its the same place he was trapped in last time. Guess he will have to wait for the celestial moons to do their thing before he can escape, even tho i doubt any of his minions will be around to free him withe crystals and that stuff. Sooo in a way, RIP Malefor. Those dargons that suck him in are also some random dead dragon ancestors, tho they are probably importand elder dragons, mabye from Malefors time.

      - his old masters come from the afterlife to seal him away for turning on them and becoming evil
      - they were previous purple dragons from before malefor. Come to seal him away for abusing and misunderstanding his role as a purple dragon.

      A remake of this game would be good. For me, the story was too short, and the levels themselves had moments that took too long. I would have loved more time spent in Avalar doing much more than the missions we had to do, and I would have loved the final boss battle to be Spyro vs Malafor and a corrupted Cynder.

    I’m really quite glad that you didn’t fight Cynder before Malefor. One reason why is because you fought her twice in a new beginning (well once, but spread out with a bit of platforming) and again in the eternal night (the colour changing dragon). I also thought that it would take away from the main boss fight.
    What I think would have been amazing though is when Spyro became all emo when Ignitus “dies” you should have been able to play as one of the dragons and fight the other, having a slightly different cutscene on who wins. This would be even better with co-op as you would get to fight whoever you’re playing with.

    • @twotone3471
      @twotone3471 5 лет назад +5

      The Game is meant to be 2 player, so having someone be "Evil Cynder" in Malefor's castle would kinda suck, and the game hasn't shown itself to have good AI for replacing Cynder or Spyro in the unlucky circumstance that one is alone playing this game, so better they concentrate on getting things done than yet another filler quest. That and Rage Spyro or Cynder would destroy the other not in rage mode licketly split!

    • @tropicalbreeze1164
      @tropicalbreeze1164 3 года назад +3

      They should have also done this twice:
      First when Spyro goes emo, then when Cinder does.
      Doesn't make a whole lot of sense to go through the effort to put these "dark" scenes to show things getting worse, only to revert back 5 seconds later.
      I agree with fighting her RIGHT before the big purple evil dinosaur Barney would not have been a good idea, but they could have made her turn a little earlier as they got closer.

    To defeat an Elite enemy, you have to match your breath with the colour of their helmets. So if it's yellow, it would be Lightning, green could be either Earth or Poison ect. They are tough, I died a few times. But I used a cheat to gain permanent breath ability, and that did help xD
    Also, I'd actually forgotten that Mark Hamil did the voice of Malefor. Why did they distort it so much! I could barely understand him.

    "You can't change color when you're frozen in time!" Did you ever consider that the time freeze thing from Spyro may have affected Cynder? I think that the influence of Malefor followed by the 3 years of constant exposure to Spyro's time freeze energy or whatever it was turned Cynder into an imitation purple dragon. Her color may also have had something to do with it. You don't know the power of black dragons!

    “TORIDORI! You’ve fully completed the original trilogy, persisted through Enter The Dragonfly & A Hero’s Tail, and wrapped up three of the Legend of Spyro games! What do you plan to do next? Hmmmmm! Perhaps take a gander at the GBA titles? HMMMMMMMMMMM!”
    Nah, but really this was a really enjoyable marathon I gotta say. It was certainly fun to inform or help you out since I had such a special connection with this series. Particularly the Legend games since I’ve grown up with them even if they haven’t age as well as the original trilogy in my opinion. It was still great to see someone having a unbiased viewpoint, taking the reboot for what it is, a reboot; and actually go a far bit deeper compared to most people have that reviewed these games in regards to development and story concepts. I’ve read just about every piece of writing Jared Pullen has made on his Deviant-Art account for what he and his team envisioned for their world of Spyro could be; whether he made these up specifically for the posts is up for debate, they’re still really interesting to read, and shows just how much POTENTIAL this reboot truly has! I think the one thing this trilogy has nailed consistently however was the soundtracks, with Rebecca Knuebuhl and Gabriel Mann being almost on par for me with Stewart Copeland in terms of my favorite Spyro musicians (for different reasons obviously); and to accentuate how much of a nerd I am, I’ve converted all the soundtracks of both OG and Legend onto my iTunes (rather difficult, but I’ve had NO regrets). I do find it rather doubtful that these games will be rereleased in any capacity for some time, at most I imagine ANB & DotD being available for XBOX Backwards Compatibility (which would unfortunately leave out TEN), but that’s saying a lot still. Reignited Trilogy is only a month and a half away (good GOD), and I’ve never been more excited to see the purple dragon come back (to give context, I’ve been waiting for a proper new Spyro game in 10 YEARS)! And who knows, maybe just for kicks, Toys For Bob could cleverly sneak in a reference or two to the Legend series as a neat little nod. But preferably for the next new Spyro game (if Reignited becomes a success), I would like to see TFB just DIVE headfirst into connected continuity with both Legend and Skylanders, and make an absolute Spyro SMORGASBORD; there’s a lot of ways you could do that, but I’ll save MY ideas for one later on...
    Anyways, I’m getting way, WAY ahead of myself already, I just wanted to say that as a longtime Spyro dork, I’ve really enjoyed this marathon Tori, and I’ll look very forward to your next new series of History vids!
    -SAM
    P.S. Don’t forget to livestream Indy & The Emperors Tomb sometime, that’ll be a joy to watch you play!

      Honestly even though i grew up with original games i really liked the Legend trilogy cause i try to view unconnected games/animes/shows as seperate things and give them a shot rather than comparing aspects of them to all the other crap i watch/play. The whole story driven focus rather than just a goofy character doing platforming and puzzle challenges brings so much imagination and connecting with the character rather than just the game mechanics. Combining the two together: the story of the Legend series and the challenges of the original just makes a really good, satisfying character with great games in my mind.

      It's a shame a lot of what Jared Pullen and others theorised for TLoS didn't get put into the game. I would have loved to hear more information on Aether - both light and dark - more about Malefor's training besides 'he gud then bad', and DEFINITELY more Cynder backstory! Also stuff like when Malefor assures Spyro there have been many purple dragons before them two... now I'm even more curious!...
      I agree about the music, I think Gabriel and Rebecca hit the ball out the park with Dawn of the Dragon's soundtrack especially. Genuinely one of my favourites to listen to out of any game. And those ending credit themes for TEN and DotD.... T-T

    1:06:47 This comment right here sums up my issue with the dark forms, apart from the lackluster voice acting involved in said scenes, and how abrupt they are, abliet it at least makes SOME sense with Cynder.
    Speaking of, something I thought of when remembering the Dark Cynder thing: Imagine how great of a penultimate final boss that could've been.
    Like, you have to fight a shadow-infused Dark Cynder, capable of using her various dark elements she can when playing as her, possibly a second phase with her scaled back up to adult form with even more devastating attacks and a different pattern, and THEN, a cutscene where Spyro is able to talk her down rather then it literally being a case of
    "Hur i'm evil again."
    "Dun't be."
    "Oh yeah that sounds good lul"
    Granted, I suppose fatigue of just beating a boss like that could bode poorly with fighting the final boss just after, but you get my point.

    The game's story had some potential that was really, really interesting. Namely that Malefor is a purple dragon like Spyro and the concept that purple dragons are meant to bring about a new world....by destroying the old one. Imagine if Malefor hadn't just lusted for power, but had rebelled against his teachers after they tried to manipulate the "chosen one" to their own ends. Why do the apes and other creatures follow Malefor? What if dragons kinda lorded over everyone else and they followed Malefor because he offered social revolution (in his big happy dictator world). So the dragons had tried to stall the rebirth of the new world in order to keep themselves in power, and upon finding out what Malefor was really meant for, he turned his back on his fellow dragons.
    The dragons start out in danger of repeating history with Spyro by hiding information and keeping certain truths from him. When finding answers on his own, Spyro becomes upset. This would serve as a replacement for the "Dark Spyro" in the game (that was such a non-issue it was kinda pointless) as he wrestles between his loyalty to his own kind that, being an orphan who didn't even know what a dragon was for most of his life, and what to do with the truth he finds. The other dragons would have to realize their own mistakes, both in how dragon society operated and by treating Spyro (and likely being so desperate to "control" him since he was not only purple but the only dragon left to them after the attempted genocide).
    Spyro could eventually uncover more information, realizing that purple dragons can achieve power of either destruction or revitalization. Instead of destroying the world to issue forth a new one, there's a way to bring new life to the current one. This would work thematically with Spyro wanting to learn from past mistakes and shames, instead of running away from the problems altogether. So Malefor would be a better "dark reflection" of Spyro, as someone instead of helping the world heal and reforming society he chose to destroy it all and impose his iron fist (claw?) rule, while Spyro eventually elects that the world is worth saving. Malefor's hypocrisy would also be highlighted in the horrible abuse he inflicted on Cynder and how he's cool with hurting others so long as it furthers his own cause.
    Cynder herself could stay more or less the same, but actually give her temptation to go back to Malefor. The games weirdly treat Cynder as if she'd followed Malefor on purpose, and not because she'd been enslaved and brainwashed from birth. She talks about how she's not proud of what she did as if she had any responsibility to her past actions, and it kinda weakens the story. The games doesn't go much into how messed up this would make Cynder, and how difficult it would be to conduct herself and make decisions for herself after she was freed. The freedom and uncertainty could be scary - and it possibly even could be frustrating to be used to having a bunch of power and then being reduced to a literal child - and Cynder might desire to go back to Malefor just because of its familiarity and it's the only way of life she's ever known. Spyro would help her by showing her there's a better way to life, showing her real friendship, and a healthy relationship with his brother Sparx (holy cow, using Sparx for something!).

    I haven't even played the game but I still almost teared up at the ending. Not just because of the story, but because of the fact that this entire very flawed but so ambitious actually comes together in the end, creating a memorable and unique experiencing, and vindication all the hard work of the writers and developers who worked on this. While the games are far from perfect, it's very clear that a lot of talented people poured their hearts into thus game, with limited time and limited budget, and the game clearly is fondly remembered by so many adults today.

  • @BJsPool87

    With Elite Enemies, you'll notice their masks glow a specific color. You'll need to use an element that matches the color of the mask. Hit it enough times and the mask will eventually fly off, leaving them vulnerable. Be careful though as they still have health bars and are much stronger than your average enemy but any attack goes once the mask is off.
    Very well done review, though! Very informative.

    I just got done playing through this game with my nephew and I still love it. The soundtrack is still amazing and the co-op is still fun, story is pretty good, but they did have 3 games to work it out, and the ending still gives me a bittersweet feeling. Its got some jank animations, QTE's, some not good voice acting, and a massive artificial difficulty spike in the Burning Lands. The combat is massively improved from the Eternal Night and a New Beginning and the elements feels like more than just reskins of each other. Not incredibly deep, but still solid. I wish there was a bit more enemy variety. The emulator or PS2 toning down bloom and shaders is a blessing and curse, Twilight Falls looks beautiful, but it looked really bland in this. A surprisingly good game overall, despite it's flaws and I'll probably go through it again in a few years

    I'm glad to see I'm not the only cynder-sexual lol. Not a scalie? Don't worry, WE'LL CONVERT YOU >:D
    But yeah, them making cynder playable in this really adds to the game - especially in 2 player (really really recommend 2 player).
    Video was ultra entertaining like always, and we agree on quite a few points (although I think I dislike the QTEs more than you haha). This is definitely the best one imo, although I like a new beginning too.

With Malefor, I think it was the ancestors forcibly dragging him back to nature with them, if that makes any sense? (Think of Ignitus' line about dragons returning to nature when they die).

    That Enter the Dragonfly clip with Hunter gets me every time, I love it! This was a great watch!
    I gotta say, Spyro getting a love story had me a bit weirded out. I keep thinking of the final cut scene in Year of the Dragon where he says "Another noble warrior fallen to the plague of love. Tsk. Just look away!" but then again, this isn't THAT Spyro. This is a reimagined one with a completely different world and story line, so maybe it's fine.
    About those purple dragon ghosts attacking Malefor in the end. My personal theory is that they're the spirits of all the other purple dragons there have been, but that's just a guess. It's not even clear whether there were others or not. In the first game Ignitus says that a purple dragon is born every 10th generation (if I remember right), and Malefor himself says there have been many. But both Ignitus and the Chronicler say that there have only ever been two; Spyro and Melefor. Bit of a jarring plot hole there... If there have indeed been others, I think it'd be neat if they were the ones who came back to take down the one who went rogue. It's at least more exciting than them being just some random dragons. It's only a head-canon though.

    In order to kill elite enemies you must hit them with a pacific breath from Spyro or Cynder, for example the first one you tried to kill required Cynder's shadow breath and then you can attack it normally. That still doesn’t change that these things can murder you very quickly so stun locking strategies are effective.

  • @LAVENDERP
    @LAVENDERP 5 лет назад +4

    Okay so I've had this theory for quite a while now about Malefor and the ending. The dragon spirits coming back to drag Malefor down is practically him being dragged into hell. Malefor wasn't supposed to be alive in the first place- he was revived through the help of Cynder and what went down at the well of souls. Like a whole ceremony to bring him back- and that's why the apes were waiting for him at the well of souls because evil spirits come back to the realm of the living at that place. That's exactly what happened to him, he was brought back.
    So with all that in mind, he shouldn't be alive and dragon spirits pulled him back into their realm where he belongs. So it's like he died twice.

    Liked and Subscribed!! I'm sorry if this is the third thing I've done, but my tech refuses to show me my comments. Anyway, I'm so glad you loved this game. It is one of my favorite games of all time! I hope you get a PS3 version of the game too, for it increased my love for the game nearly 3 fold. The better graphics help with the seemingly tedius work of finding a boat or a hermit by giving you wonderful scenery. But I've really come here today to give you tips on the combat portion of the game. To start, the flying combat is elemental power necessary. It increases the accuracy, even if you completely miss, and what helps me cope with this mechanic is thinking of how hard it would really be to fight while flying. It also gives the game a small lifelike spin. Dealing with elite enemies requires an element from Spyro or Cynder. The color and design to the mask helps identify the element needed. Dealing with the high hit point golems and other enemies, a trick with Spyro is his melee attack and his electricity attack back to back to back. This stuns the enemy and does damage. Even if it seems cheap, it helps to just complete the game without the annoying part of taking damage or using Mana. I hope you read this, and please respond if you do. I hope I was able to help!

    *LONGEST. AND GREATEST. REVIEW. EVER!*
    I agree with you. I also lived playing this game. It get all that had the previous games and totally enhanced it in a wonderful way.
    The story became even more epic, gameplay really improved a lot, graphics and scenarios were so beautiful, and characters were so well developed.
    I really loved the relationship that Spyro and Cynder had (love this pairing totally), and the final scene like made the work very well.
    Music was also amazing.
    And while I feel so sad that this trilogy ended, after a long journey, meeting so many helpful people and find majestic places, I felt so happy playing it till the end.
    It's an unforgettable experience :')
    Great video and review Toridori! I just met you but I love your content! Totally! (Specially the Spyro content)

    I'll just say this now, Cynder is my favorite character in "Dawn of the Dragon" no, actually, the entire The Legend of Spyro trilogy. While Spyro is my second favorite character, and Hunter is third.
    Well, but i also has to point this out: Just because Cynder is my favorite character in The Legend of Spyro trilogy, that dosen't mean i love her more then Spyro. I love both of them equally, and i don't think one of them is better then the other! (Except for on DeviantArt, there Cynder is better. The thing with Malefor's voice always bugged me too. In an early trailer/cast interview for this game, they do show a clip of Hamill recording his lines pre-processing and he's basically just doing his Joker voice. I recall having a laugh at the Gamespot review where they said something along the lines of "They could have cast Peewee Herman for all the difference it would have made"

      Yeah what was the point. I guess it makes sense since Malefor is a corrupt and evil being who is technically undead but you could've put any voice actor in there and we'd be none the wiser. Also the fact that it is Mark Hamill makes it worse. If they were going to distort the voice at least make it so we can still understand the dialogue.

    On Spyro's design I would like to say that I think that's all they should have done was shrink the snout a bit and made it a little bit more, just a little bit more, like cynder's in terms of being triangular, with slightly bigger and more noticeable noise hole on the front, like the original spyro from the very first game. That way, it isn't completely realistic, but not too cartoony. Also, I would of left the scene with cynder getting her bands on. As for cynder, i believe the reason she was made purple-ish was the same reason spyro was changed from green to purple: lighting and texturing issues. I think if they had to make her stand out, it would be my opinion, done by making her atleast a equally bright dark grey on par with cynder's dark purple, for me atleast, and there are so many reasons wrong with the cynder was turned into a purple dragon theory, that right now I can't fully explain.

    • @zionthedragon8866

      @@ToridoriGaming and cynder's neck needs to be a little more bulk, as well as her limbs, she looks like a goofy "spooky scary skeleton" with her skeletal body, regardless of it keeping to the original, which is equally bad, also, they need to give her chest shape somewhat similar in underbelly pattern like spyro's, because it on both the DTOD model and skylander's model look like silly breasts, and no offense, but most of cynder's powers, except for wind and fear, are generic as spyro's ice and fire, and her personality wasn't a good persoanlity in DTOD, she was a little more naggy, and "oh pitty me" personality. It's like it went 160° on her personality from the EN cynder we saw earlier, and I liked her design then, than the one we have now, and I have scalie friends (No I am not a scalie) who don't find her attractive which is ironic given their history. I am glad cynder is staying in the legend trilogy, because if they forced her into the reignited trilogy, they would make her more cartoony and complainy.
      Also, so far based on all the vids about spyro, no offense, but it seems like you don't like spyro himself as a character, and would prefer him to be replaced with cynder through out the entire franchise, with the love interest being a dark and brutting male version of cynder for her love interest. This is regarding gameplay, story, and voice actors.
      It just seems on this end, you are one of the many reviewers saying the only highlight character of the entire series is cynder, and spyro is more of a nuisance.

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 лет назад

      No I didn't like Spyro much in this. Spyro is supposed to be a cocky, confident dragon. This may be a reboot but I'm tired of the "unsure but determined protagonist" trope. It's the same reason I hate the new Lara Croft and love the old one. 😂

      @@ToridoriGaming Ok, i think I understand, but at the same time I don't.
      Is that why you like cynder in this series? Well, I like confident, I don't like a character who is way to cocky, like scourge the hegehog (basically sonic with more ego and cocky), or even like hero's tail spyro, that's IS what actual cocky is, and cynder is like this partially through the series, along with being unsure of herself, which is why I am confused for all the praise on her like she is "perfect", but all the bashing on spyro, who cynder her self in MANY ways, except being very cocky, mirrors from spyro, she even makes more rash and dumb discussions than spyro does, but the only reasons I let slide in DOTD, is because no adult, except Ignitus, the chronicler, and HUNTER of all people, acts like a ACTUAL SANE ADULTS for the most part, and act like immature adults who look for an escape goat, but at the same time I can't things slide for cynder in DOTD for being all "Oh pitty me! Every feel sorry for me, focus on me, and tell me how 'strong, indepent, and rude.. ergh, I mean "strict" I am', when so far in this game (DOTD), I have not!". I liked the confidence built up in EN, but am dissapointed in the loss of it in DOTD. Also, so spyro (minus snout! X/ ) Isn't attractive in anyway, but cynder, who has the same model, except different face, horns, and spikes mold & coloration IS? I am confused on that. Why makes her different? I am just confused, because they look very similar to me, the only thing different is spyro has muscles. But that's just me, but nice video!!

    This was the first ever spyro game I played, and I adored it. I beat the xbox 360 version in just a few days after some all-nighters. As much as I love the game, it has SO many issues, most of which you pointed out. God, that ONE ramp on the river in the valley enraged me. I'm also glad someone else noticed how emotionless Cynder is in this one. One thing I remember being particularly disappointed in was how damn easy it was to beat Malefor. I spammed my ice attack and it was over in minutes. My last gripe was the quality of the music- the soundtrack was and still is gorgeous. The Valley of Avalar track still gives me chills up my spine, which makes me sad because it sounds like it was recorded on a smartfridge. I also immediately noticed how different the overall visual clarity was in your ps2 gameplay and my xbox gameplay. Regardless of its many flaws, I still hold this game in high regards and it will always have a special place in my heart.

    Those elite enemies were so BS. I died to that first elite enemy and simply moved on.
    But oh boy, I found the wall running section a tad bit annoying in the Valleys of Avalar due to its air physics.
    I had fun playing the game though. I somehow missed a few crystals while playing.
    The armor was a cool idea but that concept art though was so cool.
    The story was very enjoyable and I loved the tone of the third act within the game.

      Same as me with the elite enemies then, lol! I've been told you're supposed to match them with an element, so if they have a yellow helmet you use Spyro's Electricity and he also takes less damage, but how are you supposed to know that the first time? xD
      I'm glad it wasn't just me who hated wall running, I thought I was doing it wrong or hitting the wrong button. It felt so bad to use, especially as the dragons can fly... :I

    Each elite enemy wears some kind of mask that gives off a bit of an idea of what element it could be made of, you need to use a certain breath to knock those masks off in order to fight the enemy normally. That first one requires you to use the shadow breath. Or if you manage to claim all armor pieces then you can just kill them easily with the dark breath with either Spyro or Cynder which is super OP.

    Hey, nothing wrong with being a scaly, if dark lady dragons are you thing then sure. ;P
    Also... maybe the PS2 version is why the game never really worked for me. Everything looked so cheap and clearly was meant to be for next gen consoles... but then Crash: Mind over Mutant did the exact same thing and mostly looked perfectly fine, with the Wii and especially 360 versions mainly just enhancing the visuals already there. :v Guess the devs were really rushed or something, especially if Darkest Hour apparently had a build made before development was handed to EL. I mean, it would explain why at least my version was so glitchy. :P The music I really like of course, though I did notice a lot of tracks from the last two games were recycled.
    With the apes now being skeletons, apparently Malefor was as sick of them as you and worried they'd take power from him so he banished them and made them skeletons or something. :v With Burned Lands, apparently it's meant to be the swamp from A New Beginning, so it's entirely possible Malefore burned Sparx's parents. :v With the ending, am I the only one who thought Spyro's "there's nothing left for me to fight for" line was kinda fucked up? Like I do want to find it sweet because d'aww he wuvs Cynder, but like what about Sparx, the other dragons, Hunter, literally everyone he's ever known? When I first saw the ending, I was confused too. I think the ghosts are supposed to be the "ancestors" we keep hearing about and either killing Malefor or trapping him in their spirit world. I agree the ending is pretty deus ex machina (literally if the ancestor spirits are like gods lol), but with Spyro's ability, I think it's some weird spiritual thing he instinctually knows because ancestors and magic and Ignitus and shit. I actually think your idea that he uses Dragon Time makes sense, as for why he doesn't use it in the game, IIRC it was because making the time crystal thing used up all of the time power (and maybe being freed from the crystal accelerated his age to the present instead of leaving it the same lol). Being in the biggest source of dragon magic ever would obviously have Spyro be able to regain enough power to use Dragon Time, especially on such a large scale. Still could've been explained way better though.
    Looking at this though, I think I'm seeing why I never got into DotD that much and actually preferred the other two TLOS games: everything is so tedious, not to mention the difficulty was often ridiculous at times. There was so much that could've been explained better, though to be honest I have to wonder if it's the technical side of things mainly screwing up here too with stuff like crappy partner AI and buggy actions. With the last two games I at least had an idea of what I was doing even if it got repetitive, here while there was more variety things just dragged on and were way more confusing than necessary. I see why you and others like this more than the other TLOS games though, and I do agree there is some merit to it, I just got more easily frustrated with it than TEN (ANB was a breeze for me mostly lol).

    • @ToridoriGaming
      @ToridoriGaming  5 лет назад

      I think this is just an incredibly bad port or whatever it is, they clearly put much more love into the PS3 and Xbox 360 over PS2 and Wii, which is a shame because people on the weaker consoles will think it's an inferior game in general. Those textures be ugly!
      OMG where did you read Burned Lands is Spyro's old swamp home?? That is depressing! That must mean they're dead then because if not, Spyro and Sparx are bad sons if they don't go back and visit them. I found it a bit odd they never cropped up again past the beginning of ANB. The developers could have at least included Sparx reuniting with them in that magic book belonging to the Chronicler...
      I know what you mean, the difficulty scaling is a bit odd at times but I thought TEN was even worse for that in some ways. Like how Skabb was such a pain in the arse the first time you fight him but the second time he's a walk in the park (lol cuz he's a dog). But yeah, some things in DotD like the elite enemies were so tough. I know they're supposed to be but two shotting me with an electric attack I can't avoid is kinda bullshit... :(

    • @TyrannoNoddy
      @TyrannoNoddy 5 лет назад +1

      Toridori Yeah, I think it's probably the port that's the issue.
      I'm not sure the exact source, but I think the logic went that basically if Malefor's lair is the Dragon Temple lifted into the sky, the surrounding swamplands must be the Burned Lands and Malefor just decimated the whole place. Also... good point about Sparx.
      Yeah, I do find TEN kind of annoying with some of that, I probably just got used to it because I actually got a chance to replay the game a few times (the only time I did with DOTD I don't think I ever finished :V). Also I think I only found one elite enemy, but my gosh it was time consuming.

    also i play this game on my wii and the graphics are actually beyond terrible. its crazy to see the game in good quality wowie

    Really good video, I happen to be in the camp that played this game on ps2 AND missed out on the eternal night, so despite not knowing about dragon time i think the ending still felt fine. I remember this game fondly, though recently trying to play it coop, it didn't feel great..
