Imagine training your whole life for this event, spending all year fighting to qualify and represent your country. Then showing up to the event and seeing the woman who holds the top 20 times for the event. Knowing the best you'll ever do is 2nd place. Brutal.
I don't think Olympic swimmers look at it that way. I mean they train and record their time. So they already know how fast they need to be to win. So that's missing the point entirely. The point is to swim your best, to train your best and let the results fall where they may. Otherwise what's the point of trying if you know you're not going to be first? Katie Ledecky is a special talent. It's the love of the sport that drives them, not winning.
@@JC-ig4xy You're delusional if "winning" isn't at the top of most Olympian's minds. You can join a rec league if it was simply about the "love" of the sport.
Ledecky is the woman who made the 1500m an actual event. She is the only one who can actually do the thing fast. Same thing happened back in 2020. Nonetheless, she is amazing.
What an amazing athlete. I remember when she did the 800m in 2012, the announcers on the network were cautioning against her drive because she was so far ahead of the other swimmers, they thought she would fall behind in the last 200m of the swim. The announcers promptly ate their words minutes later.
Truly incredible to be matched up against so many of the best swimmers in the world and make them all look slow. Katie Ledecky is the best swimmer that will likely exist in my lifetime.
What an achievement! So confident and personable, and I’ve never seen or heard her boast about anything, just recognition of all her team, family and friends! Truly a one of a kind Olympian! Eight Gold Medals!
Yes! And I forgot if it was this race or the 800m, but during the broadcast they were (ofc) talking about Ledecky and they mentioned another swimmer (I forgot who, but it might have been Summer McIntosh) who said that Ledecky was the most humble person they’d ever met.
Her list of accomplishments in this discipline is unparalleled. She has out-medaled many countries who have not a single time in the history of the Olympics. She and Simone Biles are a couple of GOAT's for the USA and make us proud of their representation. And for me it's icing on the cake to see the French swimmer achieve second, It's always so neat to see host country athletes medal in the Olympics.
Met her recently at a book signing. She mentioned that she does not like to kick, so she seldom kicks when swimming. Watch the video of her from underwater. it's amazing.
She, in addition to being a great athlete is also a decent human being. Check out the My Wish segment ESPN did granting a girl with cancer's wish to meet her.

Priceless
It's still an honor to be in that position

Better than being beaten by a man pretending to be a woman

She was competing with the camera in the swimming pool. 😂😂

inhuman performance
LOL true
the top 20 times ever in an event. just amazing.

Go Katie! You make us Marylanders so proud! ❤
Phelpes is Marylanders also. Great swimmers from that state
LOVE HER HUMILITY!!! She’s a HERO!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Congratulations!!!
She’s fun to watch swim. 15 laps is a lot especially a full length Olympic style pool and she did it with ease. Congratz Katie well done!
Congratulations to the 🐐!!! It’s actually more than that. The Olympic Pool is 50m long so they had to swim 30 laps to finish 1500m! 🤯 RESPECT
Her power is amazing.
Not even out of breath after
Truly incredible to be matched up against so many of the best swimmers in the world and make them all look slow.
Katie Ledecky is the best swimmer that will likely exist in my lifetime.
I would agree, but it was not too long ago I thought the same of Michael Phelps.
@@snerdtergusonif these swimmers get much faster I’ll have to start watching these games in person just to make sure they’re real. 😂
@@snerdtergusonman if Phelps hadn’t retired already

not human......she's part fish...amazing, congrats Katie
Thats insane! USA 🇺🇸
Unreal. What a beast.
I agree ☝️. Most women don’t have shoulders like that. Actually, men don’t either
@@chevy4x466it’s almost like she’s a 1 in a million athlete or something
It’s usually difficult for an athlete to push themselves to fast times when there’s no one really pressing them. Congrats Katie!
That's what I was thinking about, wondering how much faster she could do it if she had competition, someone to push her.
Katie Ledecky is the GOAT of swimming.
No, Michael Phelps is.
michael phelps has something to say about that lol
They are both incredibly talented swimmers, they are both GOATs of the sport!
Phelps is the goat for men Ledecky is for women
