william Strachan Well I leased it and the lease is expiring late next year so I’m just evaluating. Trust me I love the car and I have a very rare color so not in any rush at all.
@@azgunner Sometimes life throws us circumstances we could never predict. That being said, I now have (but do not drive) a 2024 CT5-V Blackwing. I decided to purchase it as an investment. (Being both the fastest & the last big engine Cadillac car produced) As for my CT5-V, it was a 2020 model & the very first one off the truck at my dealership. Electronically speaking, it was really "buggy" at first, but each software patch made it better. As for the drivetrain: Engine, Trans & AWD setup. From day one they were terrific. Great power. 27mpg highway running 80MPH with the A/C on. Comfortable. (although it took a while to get the seat adjustment the way I wanted it) My one real complaint, which may have changed on newer models, is the tires. Despite being AWD, it came with the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tire. An excellent tire, HOWEVER, it's a "Summer Performance Tire" which means even Michelin says the car should be parked during cold weather. Had I kept it longer, there are plenty of excellent performance all season tires available & I would have switched to a set of those. Still today I maintain it was a great car. Unfortunately, there just wasn't room in my garage for it anymore. If I had the money (And enough room) I'd store the Blackwing, and daily drive the CT5-V.
It was an example of how despite the interior being covered in dust, it wasn't as visible on the sparkly surface as it was on the screen. It wouldn't have worked if there wasn't any dust.

Probably been said before, but after about an hour of research, you actually can access Launch Control simply by going into the 'Track' driving mode. You do not need to alter traction control. As soon as you enter Track mode, traction control turns off. You can now launch the car. For the Cadillac CT5-V, Launch Control is available when the car is in Track Mode, which can be selected by pressing the "Mode" button on the center console and selecting "Track" from the available modes. When in Track Mode, Launch Control can be activated regardless of the Performance Traction Management (PTM) setting. However, the PTM system can affect how Launch Control performs. The PTM system adjusts the car's various systems, including the engine, transmission, and brakes, to optimize performance and traction for different driving situations. When PTM is set to Race mode, it allows for more aggressive acceleration and provides the most amount of power to the wheels, which can enhance the performance of the Launch Control system. So, while Launch Control can be activated in Track Mode regardless of the PTM setting, setting the PTM to Race mode can help to further optimize the performance of the Launch Control system.

Review AFTER 2 YEARS OF OWNERSHIP! I purchased my 2022 CT5 in August 2022. Saying that my experience owning this vehicle has been a nightmare is an understatement. Here are the list of major repairs/replacements I’ve had within 2 years of owning; Engine Head Gasket, Transmission Transfer Case, entire Transmission assembly, front Seat lumbar units, steering wheel boot, interior door trim panels, O2 Sensors, and so on. All of this has been replaced within less than 2 years of owning this vehicle. I had decided to purchase my first ever car from Cadillac as the brand stood for luxury and reliability. I put my hard earned money, and that too quiet a lot of it, towards this car. If I had known what I was in for, I would’ve went for Cadillac’s competition. It’s a shame because the CT5 is a very good looking vehicle and it drives nice. However the amount of Repairs and unreliability overshadows the whole experience. Looks can be deceiving! If you’re in the market for a new luxury vehicle, I’d take a one good look at this vehicle, admire its good looks, maybe even sit in it or take some photos and then proceed to purchase a German or a Japanese competitor brand!
I drove one of these for three hours on AB highways. Jacob is bang on about the headrest and seating position, I could not get comfortable and my wife absolutely hated it as well. It's enough to keep me from buying one which is disappointing because I did enjoyed the rest of the experience. Good review guys.
Robert Simoneau I know it’s basically a “43 AMG” or “S4” equivalent, but it’s still a poor use of the badge IMO. They should’ve stuck to “V sport” for these cars and left “V” for the flagship instead of this “Blackwing” nonsense.
It all depends on where you live. Seriously would love to have a V or a Blackwing, but I live in a city and 99% of my time I don't even get a chance to go over 60mph before hitting traffic. I would just be spending the $$ to get a V badge on it. I drove the Premium Lux with the 4cyl and it has plenty of power and is ridiculously quiet and smooth. The MPG is better and there isn't much of a difference in style... Think I'm going to go with that one for about $10-12k less. Great review as usual.
They've spent over 30 years chasing the European sports sedan market with the Cimarron, Catera, and CTS. At this point, they'd be better off just doing SUVs because their SUVs are doing well. At least the Escalade and XT5 are.
I know they bemoan the fact that this is AWD in the video, but that's actually a huge positive for me! I live in Michigan where the roads get pretty bad, so AWD is a VERY nice option to have. It's more important for me to not get stuck in a ditch when its all slushy outside in January than to be able to do burnouts off lights in July.
They are in the Toronto area and they are everyday cars. Seen a 812 a couple days ago. Probably 10 McLaren's and another 10 or so Lambo's last week. Just everyday in Woodbridge or Oakville.
Matt Finestein Lmdao you would be the uneducated one. From the recalls due to quality on the Ford Explorer/Aviator to the flimsy pieces of plastic found in the Lincoln Navigator. There are some believe it or not...you’re delusional.
I don't think they will exist much longer. The new CT4/5 models appear to be Cadillac's last hurrah before they throw in the towel, but I hope I'm wrong.
Why does General Motors fuck with everything as soon as they establish a brand. Even the ct6 was a fail, they launched the black wing the last year of its production when it should of been from the start. Gm has the resources and talent to produce top tier cars but are too cheap to follow through.
You guys said you prefer the BMW M340i but didnt acknowledged that it starts at over $10k more than the CT5-V....for the power and price point, the Cadillac seems like a bargain
One of the very few American cars that looks absolutely stunning from the outside AND the inside! First time in maybe ever I would consider having this over its German counterparts.
This "V" and "Blackwing" thing is badge engineering and marketing, same thing as the Mercedes "AMG" and Porsche Taycan "Turbo" and "Turbo S" diluting those model names.
I disagree about the blackwing, that engine was made specifically for the ct6-v and is not going in any other car. Over 500hp it is way more of a "v" car then this ct5 in the video. However I agree about some of the v cars and amg
I looked at this car alot, i wanted to convince myself i wanted it. But, alas, i own a C43 now. I just couldn't convince myself to by anything else. Hands down the most incredible car ive ever ownedTest drove M340i, 440i (wow what a transmission in the BMW's, it's seriously unreal), CT5-V, Audi S series in multiple sizes (S4 S5 and S6 are VERY disappointing by the way). and the C43 was just a class of its own. I can live without the launch control in exchange for the build quality, sound and refinement of all aspects of the car. AMG is truly a different class of car to anything else. Not a car for kids that want to burn off the tires, because it aint gonna do that no matter how hard you try, you will just break something. It's a go very fast, make alot of noise when you want, luxury monster that commands the road and can roll with just about ANYTHING else on the road.
A built in dashcam system is a very underrated feature that virtually no one has. It'd likely lower insurance rates on cars that have it as well. A lot of these cars already have the cameras. Why not use them to record?
I hate it when people get crazy over some names. Who cares if this is called the V. As long as we get the real deal which is now called Blackwing, it‘s fine.
Rick M... I asked the same question. In fact, the CT4 is longer than the C Class and the CT5 is longer than the E Class. That's how they should pitch them too, imo, because then they have a serious price advantage.
I don't understand why they pitch this as a C Class/3 Series fighter. Even the CT4 is longer than those. The CT5 is much longer. Isn't this really an E Class segment car?
It does have a Cadillac design language but still the front resembles Maserati Levante and Ghibli combined. Headlight sweep back like Ghibli and the way headlight fuse with grill looks like Levante.
For a 6 cylinder the exhaust tone is on point. If people weren't complaining so much that they were confused between V-sport and V-Series GM would have left well enough alone.
Will somebody please acknowledge that so many cars look so similar. Where is the uniqueness. ? It's almost forcing me to buy older cars and do them up for the same amount of money. Or less.
They hide launch control and make it very difficult to access because....wait for it...THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO ACTUALLY USE IT! There...somebody had to say it. That tells you a lot about how much confidence they have in the reliability of their product. They are telling you, "If you use this launch control it's going to fail and we don't want to cover it under warranty....so don't use it...pretty please. We made it very difficult for you to access, so take the hint, OK?"
I think the new Cadillac designs that are coming out are fantastic. Much better than anything I've liked in the last 10 years. I still get worried about interior quality compared to Audi/Acura/BMW/Lexus.
I dont know, that exhaust note seems kinda rockin' for a twin turbo (hint: by definition of what they do, the turbines absorb/muffle the sound). though admittedly it's been awhile since I heard one, don't recall the first gen V6 turbo in the ATS sounding this good. in fact general opinion was that they sounded pretty bad (of course everything sounds bad when the reference of comparison is a Vette motor).
I would not buy this over any of the german brands. Cadillac had a chance to do something special but this car is overall just what the guys said in almost every category. Pretty good
I have one and I love it. But I didn't buy one to drive like a race car. I bought because it's smooth. And clean looking. If you guys wanted to drive a race car, go test drive a corvette
Me too brother. They really shouldn't have cancelled the ct6-v or the cts-v. Those were one hell of a car. But, they are doing good with the suv line up though🙌💯
@@maherhamdan5316 I don't know. As far as SUV's there's better options imo. You can also save a ton and go with a 2020 High Country Tahoe over the Escalade and not feel like you're missing out. Their sedan lineup just don't seem like thought especially when you got something like the 2020 G80.
I think Cadillac is targeting the lower end of the market with a value play via the CT4 and CT5, with the intention of getting people interested in the brand again since sales were so dismal the last few years...the long term goal is moving back up towards the true premium luxury segment...rumor is that for 2021 they will be making certain key upgrades including full digital gauge cluster (optional), premium leather wrapped steering wheel, super cruise, wireless car play/android auto connection, etc. Personally, I hope that the Mercedes-inspired gauges/dash setup in the 2021 Escalade will be put into the sedans
A few years back, I sold Cadillacs for a year. They suffered (and still do) from an identity crisis. Are they a uniquely American brand? Or an out and out competitor to the German brands? While their "v" lineup was decent, they just weren't capturing market share as they though they would ( our sales narrative directly from Cadillac was that the CTS-V was a direct and superior competitor to the M5) The XTS was positioned as a value competitor to the 7 series. Cadillac essentially ignored Lexus as a competitor in the marketplace. They had difficulty transitioning from the older buyers that preferred larger, more comfortable sedans to younger buyers looking for more fuel efficiency, better handling and better tech. The consumer shift to SUVs have hurt all sedan sales. Cadillac made huge profits on each Escalade and seemed to have lost interest in sedan sales after a failed reinvention of themselves in that segment
What's the point in having a CT5, V or not V, and a CT4, if it's back seats are no larger. For that matter, stick this engine in the 4. And also the CT4 is better looking. Fine job guys, as always.
@@maliquemckayjr.2044 because people that haven't driven them have to have an opinion somehow! It's the way of the internet. In reality the 43 models are a much nicer car to daily drive, but since it doesn't have a rock hard suspension and a 600bhp v8 they're bad.......... because internet said so......
@@mercedeslambo I hear your points and I know the 43 lineup is solid but when you create a brand that is all about ludicrous performance and hand built engines only to later cash in on that brand perception with mass produced engines and a far less performance focused experience. They could've done what Audi did and name their less powerful sport focused line something else. It just seems like a cynical cash grab
@@thegourmetgolfer5544 Are we talking about S or S-line for Audi? S existed as the high-performance model, and then they added RS above it without subtracting from S. Then they added S-line as a package of sporty options for A-level cars. I don't mind what AMG did, it's clear when an AMG is not the full beans because they always give it a tiny number. That is the purpose of the number in 2020, rather than denoting engine displacement. The big-digit AMGs, with the familiar 63, 65, 73 badges, are still as ridiculous as ever, it's just that AMG now means "sport performance" and you need the number to tell you the magnitude. Cadillac, though, is just...confused. They had only just barely begun to make V a recognizable brand representing high performance cars, and the V-Sport was pretty clear that it was the mid-tier version. They had almost nothing to cash in on by making V the mid-tier car and then abusing the Blackwing name as a quick fix when everybody got confused about what they were doing with V...only to get further confused because Blackwing is also the name of a very specific engine that is now dead.
You guys complained that, “The rear seat room is terrible for a sedan like this.” WHAT?! It has the most legroom in its class! I’m 6’-6” and can sit behind myself in the CT5-V without touching the back seat...I have NO idea why you’d say this. But as for the car as a whole, I’ve driven it, and it’s pretty phenomenal.
TheStraightPipes maybe it was the headroom. It’s actually short for its class, and probably the only reason we didn’t get it (opted for an S90...which I know isn’t in the same category of performance, but it’s HUGE inside, and it was my wife’s favorite).
The previous V cars were great on paper but were let down by the build quality. I was test driving a previous gen CTS-V and the seats rocked back and forth. I point this out to the sales person and they claimed it was to “absorb the incredible acceleration forces” which, to their credit, is pretty quick thinking but is still pretty funny.
Agree with you on the branding. It looks cool though. I wish they offer Cadilac in Australia and Asia. I am kind of bored with other brand; they sort of look the same.

I don't think they will exist much longer. The new CT4/5 models appear to be Cadillac's last hurrah before they throw in the towel, but I hope I'm wrong.
Every so often GM does something right
Why does General Motors fuck with everything as soon as they establish a brand. Even the ct6 was a fail, they launched the black wing the last year of its production when it should of been from the start. Gm has the resources and talent to produce top tier cars but are too cheap to follow through.
Literally stole the Honda Accord window silhouette. Down to the little rear tail.
To me, it looks a lot like the new Altima. 🤔
I predict plastic “kink” will fade in a couple of years.
@@rabit818 hopefully sooner than later
@@dmack7265 To me, it looks a lot like a Peugeot 508
Damn now that’s one beautiful Cadillac
That’s a very good looking car.
Except for that C-pillar.
Curious to see how this compares to the upcoming TLX Type S
Anything will outshine that turd
5:45 is that yellow car on the right a 812 Superfast?
It is
:)
Car reviewers: piano black is terrible on the interior. Cadillac: ok, exterior it is.
A built in dashcam system is a very underrated feature that virtually no one has. It'd likely lower insurance rates on cars that have it as well. A lot of these cars already have the cameras. Why not use them to record?
The shape of the car looks very similar to the new Honda Accord.
Which looks like a Charger
This car also looks like a Peugeot 508
I hate it when people get crazy over some names. Who cares if this is called the V. As long as we get the real deal which is now called Blackwing, it‘s fine.
Guys I could be totally wrong but I see a lot of Honda Accord from the side
Thank you for explaining the 43/S 63/RS Mi / M naming convention. So many folks don't understand it.
I see a lot of similarities between the CT5-v and the Kia Stinger. Power, size, price, features...would be an interesting comparison.
82CamaroBase I think the Stinger is faster than this car but it may not be faster than the V-Sport
Isn't the CT5 more closely comparable to the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes E-Class, with the CT4 being in the same category as the 3-Series and C-Class?
It’s about 194” long so yes, you are correct, this is more in line with a E class
Yes but it seems like interior space is in line with 3-series (or less). I think segments are determined by interior space? Not positive.
@@The_Stanman No, they're not. External dimensions are used. These Cadillacs are not very space efficient I guess.
Agree... The dimensions nearly match the BMW 5 series. Compare the price to that and it's actually a good value.
@@johnholst it does create some funny results. for example, a BMW 8-series is a subcompact car even though it's 191in long
It does have a Cadillac design language but still the front resembles Maserati Levante and Ghibli combined. Headlight sweep back like Ghibli and the way headlight fuse with grill looks like Levante.
This is nice, but not 17 grand nicer than a Kia Stinger GT
For a 6 cylinder the exhaust tone is on point. If people weren't complaining so much that they were confused between V-sport and V-Series GM would have left well enough alone.
Beautiful car, can’t wait for the manual Blackwing. Hope people buy it.
Will somebody please acknowledge that so many cars look so similar. Where is the uniqueness. ? It's almost forcing me to buy older cars and do them up for the same amount of money. Or less.
I actually really like this and see it as a performance hot spot.
Examiner: how many fast n furious movies are there?
Jacob: 2:38
Hahahaaaa I saw that too!!! Hilarious!!!
I think the new Cadillac designs that are coming out are fantastic. Much better than anything I've liked in the last 10 years. I still get worried about interior quality compared to Audi/Acura/BMW/Lexus.
Hahahaha, zoom in with Android auto and you will see precisely where Mat Watson is!! You guys are so genius!!
Man you guys are climbing. Keep it up. Love your videos.
I (number 62 of 1.3million) need you guys to start discussing 0-60 specs
Has more room than the M340. I sat in both. Magnetic Ride was awesome in the 2016 VSport(I leased one).
Exactly. I think they made the back seats look small on purpose

Thanks was looking for this
I have that Cadillac threw away the Blackwing V8. I know it wouldn't fit in most vehicles. But it was a flagship engine.
7:09 that sounds reminds me the sound when i mess up with jack on my cell
360HP 3L V6 sound awesome
I dont know, that exhaust note seems kinda rockin' for a twin turbo (hint: by definition of what they do, the turbines absorb/muffle the sound). though admittedly it's been awhile since I heard one, don't recall the first gen V6 turbo in the ATS sounding this good. in fact general opinion was that they sounded pretty bad (of course everything sounds bad when the reference of comparison is a Vette motor).
Nice video as always! Thank you for existing!
Cadillac pulled a tricky tricky, calling it the CT5-V which looks like a CTS-V if you just glance it.
Well, the the CT5 is just the CTS in the new naming scheme.
I would not buy this over any of the german brands. Cadillac had a chance to do something special but this car is overall just what the guys said in almost every category. Pretty good
Y’all don’t realize that this isn’t meant to be the real V. That’s coming next year as the V-Blackwing.
They do realize that. They spent time in the video talking about exactly that. The complaint is that GM did a stupid with the rebranding. Again.
I have one and I love it. But I didn't buy one to drive like a race car. I bought because it's smooth. And clean looking. If you guys wanted to drive a race car, go test drive a corvette
I don't know man just doesn't seem like Cadillac is moving in the right direction.
At least they are trying. That's what I give them respect for. Infiniti and Lexus play it way too safe
The ct5 has 4.5" more rear leg room than the ct4
Everyone right now : think of something quick.....
Take my like and piss off 💀💀💀
At 5:49 I noticed a yellow Ferrari 812 pass by on the other side of the road
So we had V sauce, which was spicy so GM poured water on it. 🥺
That launch control is epic!
I’ve always thought it wasn’t
It sounds like I'm playing F-1 race on the original NES with those exhaust notes.
Cadillac ruined the V brand just like Mercedes ruined AMG
How is AMG ruined
M is even more ruined.
pointed down exhaust keeps your tips clean tho
Who cares
Wait for the CT4-V Blackwing and CT5-V Blackwing for the real deal.
"I JUST WANT ONE BIG
NOT THREE SMALL"
God I feel this
That’s what she said.😂
My dream in life is to be as happy and passionate as Yuri and Jakub when the do the visors test
I wasn't that comfortable. I dunno why
Fake in cabin speaker exhaust noise detected. I like the look of it though.
Agree with you on the branding. It looks cool though. I wish they offer Cadilac in Australia and Asia. I am kind of bored with other brand; they sort of look the same.
The launch control sounds like a woodpecker
Most of the cars that you guys reviewed not even available in my country, Malaysia but I still love to watch them
The pops sounds good in launch control, everything else is trash.
thanks for spending all night editing this for us Yuri
