    • @GanonGhidorah
      @GanonGhidorah 3 года назад +1

      @@nicholaslienandjaja1815 Nah, it _really wasn't._ The simple fact is, Godzilla and Kong teaming up against a bigger threat was inevitable; it was only a matter of who won the "true villain" roulette wheel, and it landed on Mechie.
      You can tell that scenes from the movie were inspired by the original King Kong vs. Godzilla - like when Kong blocks Godzilla's ray with the handle of his axe, or when Kong is getting air-lifted by the helicopters. So it's clear the filmmakers were paying homage.
      So if they _really_ wanted to reference _this_ film, then the Final Battle actually would've had Godzilla contribute _a lot more_ against Mechagodzilla than grabbing one of his arms, and then blast-charging Kong's axe. If anything, we should've gotten a scene where Godzilla restrains Mechagodzilla from behind, while Kong slashes at him with the axe.

    Maybe the "space titanium" was actually supposed to be a scale of Ghidorah, and that was why the girl saw him in her vision, but it was left out because they wanted the focus to be on Mecha Godzilla. This Space titanium could have come from Ghidorah, it would make sense for the aliens to know of it and make use of it.

      For some reason, both "King Kong" and "Frankenstein" became a sort of shorthand for "monster" in German movie titles back then.
      On a side note, for those who didn't know King Caesar/King Seesar (for a while everyone called him King Seesaw) is derived from "shisa/shiisaa," which are real-life statues of dog-lion guardian spirits found outside Okinawan temples.

    • @tyrantgregcagkaiju71
      @tyrantgregcagkaiju71 8 лет назад +24

      +ScreamingScallop It was because of the success of the German release of "Frankenstein Conquers the World" that a lot of kaiju entries had "Frankenstein" in their German title. I guess the German distributors had high hopes that this tactic could boost the movie's release.

    King Caesar reminds me of a primaddona who won't come out their dressing room until their petty demands are met.

    • @michaelccozens
      @michaelccozens 3 года назад +4

      A lot of those demands aren't "petty" at all. Example; Van Halen was famous for the "bowl of M&Ms in the dressing room, no brown ones" rider. Seems crazy, right? The reason for it is that VH was one of the first acts to bring sophisticated stage performances to second-tier venues. That meant a lot of inexperienced and often-understaffed crews setting-up stunts that could be incredibly dangerous to the band. How do you make sure the crew read the instructions carefully and followed all of them? By making your insane M&Ms demand. Viola; you see one brown M&M in your dressing room, and you know the crew half-assed it, so you'd best not perform lest you get your ass fried.
      There are petty riders, sure, but they aren't all that.

      Thank you...I feel Godzilla's Revenge is the most tragically underrated, misunderstood and frankly _overhated_ movie in the Godzilla franchise...when honestly, it's one of the smartest and surprisingly deep. It came as quite a shock to me when people hated on the movie for frankly _trivial things_ - like the stock footage. (When you consider the fact that home media _wasn't_ a thing back at it's release and wouldn't be for a few years - meaning if you missed a Godzilla movie in theaters, you _missed it for good_ - it was a great way to catch-up on all the Godzilla action you might've missed from other movies.)
      And honestly, this running joke of Brandon being too afraid to review the movie really has me wondering if he's actually going to stick to his guns and hate on it as much as it's reputation suggests, or if he's trying to fake us all out and reveal that he actually appreciates the movie for what it is.

    For anyone not already in the know, the name of Godzilla's furry ally in this film is King "Shisa". The Shisa are creatures from Okinawan mythology. They're a sort of mythical guard dog. Placing two Shisa statues in front of one's house is said to ward off certain evils. Why the localization changes the kaiju's name to Cesar is beyond me. Especially when he doesn't look even remotely Roman. Then again, I wouldn't expect American movie companies in the 70's to know anything about Okinawan culture.

    19:16 Big Jake with John Wayne was rated G and he fights a machete-wielding murderer hired alongside a child-killing, half-Apache gunfighter by Richard Boone to murder his 8-year-old grandson over a 20 year grudge. They even butcher his dog and he says "son of a bitch": twice! Silent Running and Across the Great Divide also come to mind...

    Shall I be honest, I kind of like this version of Mechagodzilla best, where he's the one we're supposed to be rooting AGAINST!! The later versions had him be the creation of humans, which I understand, but am not all that behind. The 90s Mechagodzilla film had a bit of a dumb design in my opinion, and the dialogue from that movie had me rooting for the monsters, who I'm supposed to be AGAINST!! The third MechaG had a better update in the design and actually looked like a robotic Godzilla, but it still had the human origin, so meh.

    • @Tareltonlives
      @Tareltonlives 5 лет назад +3

      I agree. I liked the 90s film, but that's because Godzilla wins and is ultimately the hero. I didn't like the Kiryu films: they just felt like generic Mecha anime and Godzilla some generic kaiju.

    • @Snowfang00
      @Snowfang00 5 лет назад +4

      I quite liked Kiryu. His design is really badass and he has a character arc. He does more then just have the purpose of being built to destroy his flesh counterpart. He was built over Gojira 54’s skeleton which gives him the memories of that incarnation. So he has character development in furfilling his purpose and accepting who he is. The ending of Tokyo S.O.S. made me cry when he bids farewell to his pilot
