I know this is just an update to an already existing video, but I figured now was a good time to do so. I hope you enjoy, and see you in 2025 when UFTD returns with new videos!
Story time: My brother and I went to see the 70th anniversary re-release of Godzilla Minus One. We got our favorite seats in the left corner of the back row. During the Ginza attack, these four random teenagers came in and sat down next to us. When they heard some dialogue, one of them said “I don’t speak Chinese” in a disappointed tone. Shortly after, they walked out. Literally the funniest thing I’ve seen in a theater😂
I can’t believe Godzilla is now 70 years old😭. This entire franchise truly speaks to me like none other, and I will forever treasure it for all the beautiful memories it has given me.❤️ Happy Birthday King, and thank you for this updated compilation, homie.😊👍
As a kid back in the 80s who watched Godzilla movies in ‘Creature Double Feature’, i now still can’t believe SEVEN DECADES have passed! Been waiting for this update, given Minus One and the latest Legedary movies.
Happy Birthday! This is a great compilation that shows a lot of love for the franchise! which, surprisingly often, includes finding the good elements in lesser movies that even I would rate lower. The only exception here is Godzilla Raids Again which I think has likeable characters and some moody photography despite its flaws. The overall focus on everday people reminds me more of "Minus One", there is even a pilot involved...
Happy 70th Birthday to one of the most iconic figures in cinema history and pop culture in general. A franchise that has brought so much inspiration, messages, and entertainment to the world. Long live the King.
It's always nice to be reminded of these reviews, and dip back in for those of my favorites. Because some of these films I just can't force myself to watch any more. That we'll have new content in the next year is great news and I look forward to more hours of enjoyment, Meanwhile, time to rewatch! G minus One minus Color is so cool, btw.
This is the first I am seeing your channel. I like your analysis of all these films. Watched all 3 1/2 hours and enjoyed it. Thanks for putting all these into one video.
Always hyped to see a new video drop, even if it is just an update. Will probably watch in full within the next couple weeks. Looking forward to future content!
The review of Son of Godzilla is spot on, while it isn’t my cup of tea.. my daughter who’s 6 wants to watch Godzilla movies with me, the one that resonated with her the most was Son of Godzilla, it’s one of the only ones she will watch on repeat, and easily her favorite of the ones she’s seen.
The ingenuity of Godzilla is recognized fully if you compare the first movie with all the other 50s monster-flics from the US who only go for the threat but never managed to establish some mythology. The later entries of the Showa-era proved an untamed imagination that western kids only had known from their comic-books. In this regard, the series was years ahead of Hollywood. BTW, it's remarkable how many variations Godzi's design got through the decades. There's something endlessly variable about his appearance one wouldn't guess at first glance.
Eborah was a great film! It’s honestly better than the ones prior to it besides the original. It’s so different and the characters are fun. A+ music, A+ ocean monster scenes
2014 Godzilla is my definitive Godzilla follow by minus one . But the old Godzilla with a man in the suit will still hold some nostalgic place for me .
In Godzilla Raids Again the effects were accidentally shot with less frames per second instead of more and the action is in fast motion rather than slow! It was an early mistake that rendered the battle scenes humorous!😊
I remember Ghidorah as a kid - I was 6 when it released and it along with the War of the Worlds were 2 of my favorites with Forbidden Planet hanging close. It's hard to believe there have been so many attempts to profit from this creation (Godzilla)
@UpFromTheDepths88 what do you think of talking about the Jurassic Park/World movies or animated movies about monsters like How to train your Dragon, The Sea Beast, Ruby Gillman Teenage Kraken, and Ultraman Rising?
If Toho ever reads this comment or sees this video at all, the message use that he is not trying to be in trouble from copyright, he is just rating your movies
1:53:48 I was 16 (96’)and interning at a ISP. The web designer liked Godzilla . She happened to have Fam in Japan and let me borrow the VHS of this. Good times
3:35:52 Which one? If you're talking about the gauntlet Kong gets I actually find it impressive they did foreshadow the program it came from earlier in the film, there's a scene with a character having the news on in the background and it talks about the program getting shut down.
happy 70th birthday godzilla!!! :3 shin is my favorite alongside minus(love these 2 films so much being godzilla films i didn't know where they'd go,caring for it's charming lovable characters to the end & extremely hyped for the sequel.:3) of the films(tied with heisei as my favorite version followed by minus & legendary.) having my favorite humans in the series, wonderful score, modern message just as important as the original, alongside minus the first time godzilla actually scared me with it's implications of it's forms & anno doing such a great direction that i'd love a sequel(especially if we see more eva promotion with it with other trigger/former gainax series added.:3)/crossover of the cinematic shin universe. outside godzillaland/cameos the big g really is a wasted opportunity in anime(with singularity point not being much better being convoluted/too different) with the mistakes the anime trilogy makes in how bare the world is(that the novel's do WAY more with using every known & obscure toho monster that the films would've been better off including in the film being so ambitious that a godzilla anime should do.:3),besides the hotua(love their concept of humans that became embodied with mothra's power for protecting her like what monsterverse does)/metphis characters being generic attack on titan expies giving techno-babble that ends up not meaning anything,a not very great 3d style, godzilla being his most boring/unsympathetic with how he fails being gaia's vengeance when he kills everything besides humans(being more overpowered than final wars killing the potential it had.),ending on a downer note(haruo making a extremely dumb selfish decision that unless mothra woke up screwed over that world/is hollow in that godzilla should've died with him as he really isn't a benefit to the world.) & wasting king ghidorah(do love the eldritch feel he has being his most unsettling worthy of the planet eater title/taking advantage of his ability to mess with gravity affecting space & even time that should be done again giving a apocalyptic tone right out of end of evangelion though would've been a better fight if his full form was out and mothra hatched helping godzilla)/mechagodzilla(whose design is wasted never being used or even reconstructed with the nanometal/in hindsight he should've been hedorah instead as he would've fit it more.). the millennium era really could've gone better with how great gmk(him at his most evil being a corpse possessed by spirits giving the message of respecting the past/sometimes veterans asking for disrespect from their actions, great human characters & love kanako's spiritual themes for the kaiju i'd love to see him do for godzilla again/have a crossover with his gamera.:3)/kiryu saga(love the concepts of kiryu possessed by the spirit of '54 godzilla's bones growing to forgive humanity going to rest in peace with millenium godzilla/being tied to mothra & toho's other films though wish akane from the 1st one returned.) and final wars but after 2000 having the problem of rebooting back to 1954 each film(where it really doesn't work in megaguirus with how dumb the humans are/really feels like rodan should've been involved being his enemy.)relying too much on the past & should've connected them like the kiryu saga to final wars(like in the tokyo s.o.s stinger the xilien leader stealing the dna capsules of the toho kaiju at the end releasing them under their control leading to it's events.) heisei is alongside reiwa my favorite era with how it told a full story of godzilla, had great human characters(do wish the prime minister in return of godzilla had been in the rest of it befriending miki) especially miki/m11/emi,complex themes(biollante being my favorite with how her sacrifice leads unintentionally to spacegodzilla),the big g going from a angry revenge filled animal blinded by rage to being neutral/a understandable heroic caring father given a fantastic end-off & his son taking the mantle(with implications in vs. king ghidorah/the new shorts him fulfilling his father's legacy). enjoy while not as tightly thought on as heisei like the sense of continuity showa had like in the mechagodzilla films(love king caesar & mechagodzilla/titanosauras with the sadly tragic way it goes out by association) & destroy all monsters(alongside godzilla island) being the last things to happen. hedorah is my personal favorite of showa(alongside gigan even with it's stock footage issues as i love the humans/alien threat and anguirus being godzilla's loyal friend i wish we saw more of) as i love the human characters, being the full start of godzilla being a hero, hedorah being my favorite kaiju(with how even more than ghidorah on the ropes he does to godzilla being alongside gigan the first to make him bleed.) & being trippy/darkest in the series with the many deaths. while godzilla jr. is a better design/prefer for the big g's son,had a creepy introduction & all monster's attack(which outside context/gabara being a funny bully is the most bare movie) was where his dislike was deserved i'm fond of minilla having a rather sweet relationship with godzilla and getting the killing blow on ghidorah in destroy all monsters/being cool stopping him in final wars. like king ghidorah showing the kaiju's personalities especially godzilla/rodan stepping in to help mothra out against king ghidorah who i thought had good buildup that to me were fixed in invasion of astro-monster(while i wish mothra was in it nick adams/his love with kumi's character, start of aliens being used/godzilla being in space & especially the godzilla dance.:3) love how king kong vs. godzilla was the start of godzilla being lighthearted with it being like a wrestling match especially how much a bully the big g is/the humans being very animated making up for how hilariously ugly kong looks. & vs. mothra was definitely when godzilla came into his own having a earnest feel(especially how surprisingly dark the villains meet their end to their greed.) with godzilla having a evil brutality to mothra's soft femine feel stopping him from eating her egg(outside it happening out of nowhere which even then don't find mighty joe young bad, liked the finale/mothra's kids avenging her)
I would like to know why you didn't include a rating of the American version with Raymond Burr on the original Godzilla. How did it fair against the actual original?
What are your top 5 Godzilla movies? For me it's 5. Godzilla King of the Monsters 4. GMK All monsters attack 3. Godzilla vs Biollante 2. Godzilla Minus One 1. Godzilla vs Destroyah
