I theorize the reason Ash tried to kill Ripley with a rolled up magazine was because Synthetics aren't supposed to be programmed for violence. He has no idea how to "kill" a human since it's not in his programming. The best he can do is emulate what he saw the Facehugger do. It's similar how in Aliens when Bishop is offered a handgun. You mentioned having equipment that would help but isn’t used. Being in the military right now I can tell you that this is the most accurate aspect of this film. Often do we have equipment that would help our jobs 1000 times over. Making what we do so much easier, but for whatever reason we can’t use it. That is accurate. We have forward observers and mortars, that can clear out an entire area before infantry goes there. However, we will send infantry first and wonder why we suffer casualties.

Alien resurrection is underrated. There is a clear distinction between characters and a development of them that feels missing in the other movies, and the goofier, dramatic style of the movie actually helps with that. I actually find the crew interesting unlike a lot of the alien movies where, except for ripley, the cast feels like a squad of crash dummies which exist solely to get killed. (I still love those movies too btw) The personalities of the crew are actually explored a bit and it makes me remember them. The scenes with the aliens are pretty awesome visually too. Fun fact in Prometheus that star system that they show is based off of a real life star system, and if you were to somehow rewind the clock back to when those civilizations supposedly existed, the stars would actually more or less lineup with the depiction in the movie. However, as time goes on, they have stretched out and grown distant from each other.

Dude, the company is already aware of the potential Alien ship on Lv426 long before they even find Ripley, in fact, there's a lot of evidence that actually implies that the company already knows about Lv426 before the crew of the Nostromo are even woken from cryo sleep, just watch Ash very carefully in the first film and you will very quickly pick up on that seeing as he is assigned to the crew unexpectedly days before their mission and is the first person to point out that mother wants to talk to Dallas (with an unusual amount of enthusiasm at that). He literally directly guides every event to allow for the story to progress the way it does. It's pretty safe to say that they sent colonies to LV426 with the express intent of finding said ship and they definitely never gave a fk about loss of life in the process of doing so. Even in the second film, when 'Al' is asked by his co worker about the mom and pops survey team that consists of Newt's family, they make it very clear that the company has been sending teams out regularly to survey the planet's surface (clearly in search of the Alien vessel) long before Ripley is even interviewed about her experiences...
It's literally a main plot point in the movie, with Ripley confronting him about it just before the big shootout scene that starts the final act of the film lol. It's like he didn't even watch it

I would definitely say Romulus grew on me. Nothing will compare to Ailens and isolation. Most dont know how amazing isolation is but Romulus did what it needed to do
Alien and Aliens couldn't be more different films, but manage to perfectly tie together what are essentially slight twists on a haunted house/slasher style horror movie and a classic war film implementing the trope of a top secret mission behind enemy lines where everyone is expendable for the mission to succeed. The connective tissue of Geiger's amazing design work does so much heavy lifting in these films, making Aliens seem like a direct visual expansion from Alien, building on what we saw on the crashed ship and the physiology of the creature itself. As if that isn't enough, we get an incredibly strong and iconic heroine, played by the perfect actress for the role being directed by 2 of the most acclaimed visionary directors of all time. These movies are so special, like lightening striking the same place.
The ship they used to leave in Romulus was their mining ship. And no one else had checked on the ship bc it was only detected when their ship was above the storm that covered the atmosphere on the planet!
Dude steps away for 2 months then comes back swingin. Love the longer vids you do my guy. Love the alien movies as well and gotta love you're honest takes. Glad you're back bro 💯
A possible explanation in Aliens, for why the aliens apear at the same Ripley wakes. Is that the location of the ship was on Ripley's craft. So while she was in the hospital they tried to recover the aliens. Thats my headcanon
If I remember correctly from the extended cut, it's Paul Reisers character that sends settlers on LV-426 to investigate the spaceship based on Ripleys story.
@@peterspipes9698the extended cut is the definitive Aliens experience in my opinion. For the inclusion of the scene of Ripley learning of her daughters death alone, it’s my preferred version. That one scene makes so much difference in my opinion. Not to mention all the other amazing scenes that were initially cut for theatrical release.
It’s even more simple than that. Riley told Burke her story. Burke sent word to the colony for them to investigate the derelict ship. They show this in the directors cut
19:49 When Ripley told Burke about the Alien life forms, he went and contacted the planet to go and research it. Before then it wasn't discovered. This is revealed when they later get into a fight over money.
I recently re-watched all Alien movies (after having watched Rumulus, which I enjoyed a lot), remembering that I genuinely liked the franchise, but couldn't really remember Alien 3. Quickly reminded myself why. The death of Newt, Hicks and Bishop instantly made me disinterested in the rest of the movie, followed by a mundane, boring plot that was difficult to care about (also they killed the dog, damit). But other than Alien 3, I find the movies solid. Alien: Covenant is high on my list due to how visually stunning it is and due to David's story.
1) Ash didn't change the mission objective - the company always had that as an hidden priority to possibly develop biological weapon from alien life forms. Killing two birds with one stone, getting ore and invaluable living organisms. It's likely that all company cargo ships had a synthetic on board to ensure that this objective is upheld if organisms of this nature were encountered while in deep space (they probably didn't expect these highly predatory beings though) and with the main system, Mother or whatever, scouting and scanning for it. If the crew can't be brought back alive or needs to be killed (to protect the specimen) than too bad. This is just to really hammer in the horrible corporate mind set of these company people. "If the trade-off for human lives is a boat load of money then who cares if a few people die?!" Aliens is identical in that aspect. If Burke had successfully brought back the specimen, nobody would've cared a bunch of terraforming colonists or marines died. Profit is the priority, the end. Also, watch the Director's Cut. You get the first attempt at explaining how the eggs come to be, i.e. it's people morphing into them. Ripley comes across a lair (same alien-secreted resin structures seen in the derelict ship and in Aliens) where she sees Dallas half in the process of morphing and he begs for death. 2) The company lost contact with the colony because Burke, upon learning of the existence of the alien form from Ripley, sent a message to have colonists (which just so happen to be Newt's family) go check the location of the derelict ship, which they did and brought back a face-hugged explorer. They must have went back later and brought back more, because there are 3 dead specimen and 2 live ones in the infirmary when the marines get there. This is all explained in the Director's Cut, by the way. If you haven't seen that version of the film then you are truly missing out. So much more context for the connection between Ripley and Newt, because Ripley use to have a daughter which died of old age during her 57-year cryosleep. 3) While Alien Resurrection is pretty bad, it's a guilty pleasure of mine... It's so goofy! But, I genuinely like the idea of a person with xenomorph traits, like the hive mind connection, the genetic memories, acidic blood, etc., but also all the failed effed up clones... 4) Prometheus looked so promising, going back to explore the Space Jockeys - that it was such a monumental letdown still hurts to this day... I cannot even begin to explain the stab to the heart that was. The characters are so stupid and horrendously incompetent (not quite as bad as Alien Covenant, granted) and the movie happening entirely relies on them being stupid...That's... stupid. Oh and, the Engineers being pissed off we killed Jesus, who was an Engineer, 2000 years ago and that's why they want to destroy Earth, it's so ridiculous it hurts! Yeah, this weird meld of religion into the Alien franchise just doesn't work IMO, though exploring creation, and a creation meeting its creator (also mirrored by Fassbender's character) is interesting, but ruined by pretty much everything else. 5) Alien Covenant... The worst, just the worst.
I can’t wait to watch this 2 1/2 hour review of the two alien movies. It’s a shame they never made any more after the second. Oh well, better that than milking the brand with godawful lore-breaking sequels, prequels, and crossovers
AVP wasa decent action movie. Definitely could've been written better, but the lore Alien vs Predator fight scenes, and the Predator teaming up with Lex were all excellent bits. Alien 3 was a victim of studio meddling and too many writers.
Elvis, they explain with a throwaway line how the aliens were found again in "Aliens", it shows some colonists talking and saying that they were told to go check a grid reference, this happens after the hearing with Ripley, I think the assumption is that she told them where they touched down and then the company told the colonists to look into it and that's how the Alien outbreak started! :)
19:48 they do explain it. The guy heard Ripleys story and ordered one of the colonies to find the ship and do experiments on the aliens. It does make sense how none of them ever found it, given there were only 70 families on the entire planet, and that they probably werent there to go exploring, and it explains how they did find it when Ripley showed up, again, because the guy ordered them to find it after hearing Ripley's story.
2:17:19 What are you talking about? Big Champ was inside the escape shuttle when the Nostromo exploded, it's not like he was out in space when the explosion happened. And when Ripley burns him with the propulsions of the shuttle, you can se how he just drift away in space, it's not like he got desintegrated by them. The real damage would be the harpoon because it completely pierced him, and from Aliens we know the definitive way to kill them is dealing damage until nothing is left or completely exploding them.
In reality, the humans are the 👽 aliens 👽 not the Xenomorphs, the humans landed on a planet where the xenomorphs where already chilling and living their best lives until as usual the humans stuck their noses in and had the audacity to kill the xenomorphs, eggs, and the queen.
@@shriekotbanshee the xenomorphs are in stasis waiting to be activated for labor only the Engineers messed up their super slaves too well. The ship was delivering them to a colony when one killed the pilot.
Same. I wish we had a conclusion to it. Fassbender was phenomenal and I loved all the subtext about gods and creation (and David wanting to be one.) Reading some of the original drafts of the screenplays for “Prometheus” and “Covenant” made me love the Android’s story all the more. It’s a shame so much of it was cut and relegated to subtext, especially in Covenant!
@@BrettDMaynard Fede álvarez has said that he plans on finishing Ridley's story with him in the next one while combining his own horror too so don't worry, we will probably get to see it concluded
@@danielw8776 A shame, David is one of the best characters in the alien franchise and god damn he was sooooo good in covenant. Every time I see someone say they hate covenant it makes me sad you are blinded by the bad and can’t see the good.
About the "no weapons" thing in Alien Cubed, it makes sense to me. Like you said, they're on a prison PLANET. If they revolt, where are they going to go? What are they going to do? The prosion is the only civilization on the planet. A revolt would do absolutely nothing and gain them nothing but making enemies out of everyone.
22:30. When you're that close to a planet, theres definitely still a heavy gravitational pull. Satellites and space stations are constantly having to maintain a certain momentum for orbital mechanics to keep them from falling to earth. A drop ship would absolutely plummet instantly if it isn't moving at least 10,000 mph.
Aliens is the winner for me. I've seen that film so many times that I probably think it's my favorite film of all time. Even better than predator and Terminator 2. I only wish I saw it in the cinema when it forst came out.
Romulus had amazing effects and the practical effects were spot on. Best part. However it’s a weird amalgamation of every alien film before it. It’s like each scene or set piece you could match up with any of the previous films.
I love Alien resurrection. I love it for its Jeunetness. I consider him an absolute master of cinema. He's the guy every other filmmaker wish they were, and Resurrection is filled with his calling cards. The set designs, the atmosphere. Nobody can shot a film quite like him. The man is an absolute filmmaking genius
Explosions in space are more spherical if anything, and since it's a ship full of oxygen, there would be some degree of fire. A fuel oxidizer would create a massive fire ball too, which is almost definitely part of the engines.
19:49 Others have already probably mentioned this, but in the extended version of the movie it is explained that the douche character sent out a message to the colony to check out the coordinates where Ripley said the alien ship would be, after which the ship is found by the colony.
It might not be the best “alien” movie but Prometheus is probably my favourite movie in the series. There’s just something about the mystique and lore of the world that I find so captivating. Not to mention the movie is outright gorgeous. The practical effects and even CGI still hold up really well imo
Newt becoming a teacher in real life is really sweet. Like just being happy having a regular life, with the one amazingly cool thing being super endearing in one of the greatest movies of all time.
I didn’t think that Big Chap was incinerated in the first movie. I think that it just got blasted away by the engine. Also, about Romulus, I think Andy lied about the fact that the Xenomorph won’t attack the humans due to them having weapons. Remember, he got reprogrammed with that new module Rain installed which changed his directive to match the ones given by the company which meant that the humans were expandable

The reason why Ripley knew the alien in her was a Queen was because it had the same crest on its head/skull the Queen had, unlike the smooth heads of all the other aliens.
And really, the Assembly Cut is GREAT. The extended version really fills in the plot well.

If you listen closely, it sounds like its screaming "Mommy Why" to Ripley
Oh yeah!

It's evidence that practical effects and creativity will always age better than just using CGI for everything
@@Dhampire1976It really is. Look at the original Jurassic park from 93. The practical effects and the fact that they used people in costumes for the dinosaurs has kept that movie looking fantastic. I prefer it over the CGI dinosaurs they used in Jurassic world. Though the Trex they originally used almost became a death trap because of all the rain on set but it still looked amazing on screen and luckily no one got hurt.
I'm always torn between Alien and Aliens but I always lean towards Aliens because of the marines and the action plus more aliens.
I get what I wanted out of it 🤷♂️
Most people don’t appreciate it for the campy romp it is but in retrospect it’s so obvious that whedon used these characters as the bones of his firefly characters
I agree.

Yeah, thank God a third aliens movie wasnt made.

Whoa
Just listen to the Audiobooks..

20:12 Burke sent the colonists to investigate the ship after he hears ripley’s story. Thats why the colonists are safe until Ripley is interviewed.

That initial Dog-Alien from the third movie is, like, the most adorable Abomination I've ever seen.
The ship they used to leave in Romulus was their mining ship. And no one else had checked on the ship bc it was only detected when their ship was above the storm that covered the atmosphere on the planet!

@@peterspipes9698 It's explained in both cuts. That's why Burke tries to kill Ripley, because she finds out he's responsible.

"I'm telling you I WANNA DIE"
Legendary B-movie line.
Always such a treat with a new Elvis video
I can’t wait to watch this 2 1/2 hour review of the two alien movies. It’s a shame they never made any more after the second. Oh well, better that than milking the brand with godawful lore-breaking sequels, prequels, and crossovers
Alien 3 was great
AVP wasa decent action movie.
Alien and Aliens will always be classics and Alien Isolation will always be the best video game licensed from this franchise.
Alien Romulus was really good imo, made me revisit the entire franchise all over again
Spot on bro 💯💯
