Ayers was a rotational DE for 9 seasons, Quinn was a TE who played on special teams and was out of the league in three years. The bears pick at 84 the Steelers picked WR Mike Wallace who played for 10 years and had one pro bowl. The LA/Detroit trade should be studied by execs, coaches, and scouts for a generation to come.
No small part of why Detroit fared so well was their scouting department who has been elite at finding quality players in the draft, the picks panned out in no small part because of them. If anything Goff was a bonus to the trade, the fact he worked out was both a pleasant surprise and also something still in the range of expected outcomes given his pedigree thus far, he just needed a solid environment and he found that on a team eager to prove themselves.
LA's success was immediate and relatively self-evident. I won't say Detroit *won* the trade, but the fact the trade worked to their benefit as much as it did was the result of a lot of savvy.

The Groper Cleveland trade was probably the worst they traded away there future talent there franchise QB and gave away all there cap space for a guy who can't even throw for more than 300 yards in a game or win a game for that matter. It showed how bad of an owner Jimmy Haslam is and that the future of the Browns is gonna be back to sucking for probably the next 10 years. The worst trade of all time was the Herschel Walker trade thanks Vikings due to your incompetence. we got to listen to every Cowboys fan talk about how great the 90s were and "how bout them Cowboys". Yet still, after that dumb trade, people still do stupid trades cause there are a lot of stupid owners and gm's, I guess.
Edit: I see alot of people saying the Groper Cleveland trade was the worst, but as a Cleveland fan, almost all of our trades or signing whatever have sucked. Like Bobby Mitchell to the Skins infavorer for Ernie Davis who didn't play cause of Cancer rip. Oh, and after that, we didn't resign Jim Brown. We also got rid of Ernst Byner only to watch carve the league up and win a ring, releasing Alex Mack, trading TJ Ward, whiffing on almost all of our 2010-2020 draft picks, drafting Tim Coach who wasn't mobile at all compared to McNabb, passing on Brady, trading down in the 2011 draft. Trading away hall of famer Paul Warfield for a 1st round draft pick that we wasted, along with trying to overpay for A.J. McCarron. Signing Andre Rison to a stupid amount of money, releasing Bernie Kosar, trading for Corey Williams, Signing Jeff Garcia, Signing Kenny Britt, and basically almost all free agents have sucked for the Browns or had little impact. And much, much more. Ever since Paul Brown was fired, we have been in a dying state.

I think the Watson trade is the worst, because the Browns are going to be stuck either with him, or the dead cap caused by him, at least in the Hershel Walker trade, there was no salary cap implemented at the time, so it was easier to get rid of him.

    • @unfixedfall
      @unfixedfall 24 дня назад +5

The browns have fared worse by far than the vikings did. Threw away a franchise qb in baker, turned the texans from a dumpster fire to contender overnight, and are absolutely fucked on the salary cap for the next 2 years.
The vikings missed the playoffs 2 years, had 1 losing season, and then made the playoffs nearly every year for a decade

Sean Peyton doesn't get the criticism he deserves for the Russel Wilson situation.
Coaches are supposed to put their players in a position to succeed. Not take a QB who built a HOF career on scrambling and improvising, then stuff him into a precise timing, pocket passing system. Not to mention the scapegoating that went on.

I guess the general rule of thumb here is don’t trade for a Philly QB.
McNabb was cooked, and the Eagles got Nate Allen (above average safety who only left due to a better deal from Oakland) and Nick Foles (his 27-2 season was pretty special + his later Super Bowl)
Bradford turned into Derek Barnett who recovered the Brady fumble in the Superbowl and Sweat who is an above average DE.
Wentz turned into a pair of pro-bowl WRs in AJ Brown and Smith, a potential All Pro DT in Jalen Carter and potentially another starter in Cooper DeJean.

I know this is supposed to be pre-2000, but there’s one trade in 1998 that is worth mentioning. The Chargers moved up from 3 to 2 to take Ryan Leaf. It cost them Their first and second in 1998, their first in 1999, and Pro Bowl return man Eric Metcalf. The 1998 first was a bust (Andre Wadsworth). But, the 2nd rounder became Pro Bowl CB Corey Chavous and the 1999 first was Pro Bowl WR David Boston.
    For Ryan Leaf…..

There was nobody on any network even discussing benching him.... Really playing great ball... And a young QB comes in and has a hot performance when he is out.... Ends up in Washington.... Breaks his leg and goes on a 2 yr journey with like 50 surgeries on it and infection and muscle removal......
Makes a comeback and plays in front of his children once more before retiring.... 😢

I understood why he wasnt afraid to trade him to Washington. Props to Andy Reid btw for getting the most of out his QBs. Mcnabb, Alex Smith, Michael Vick, Favre, and Mahommes.
