3:16, I’m just now learning the Baboon Hawks are only scared away by loot based noise NOT player based noise and am now retroactively embarrassed for every time I’d scream at them thinking I was scaring them off 💀
like what the top reply said, it's just fun to hurl insults at them with the idea that that's scaring them off, even if you yourself know it's not true
One of the most wild things in V50 is being on a map with eyeless dogs or forest keepers and seeing a MOB of baboon hawks deciding that the other creatures life trial has just expired.
Yeah they're the asshole entity of the game. Even before V50 they have the gaul to peck Anything, even when giants were immortal. (And they do the same to old birds)
I really like the complex threatening behaviors. It's like dealing with real wild animals. Baboon-hawks are as afraid of you as you are of them, and will keep their distance if you make yourself big and intimidating. Let your guard down, turn your back on a Baboon-hawk, or corner one, and it'll stop fleeing and start fighting, starting with lunges like a scared territorial animal before charging you outright. If you run from a charging Baboon-hawk, it'll sense weakness and go for the attack, but if you stand your ground and walk towards an aggressive Baboon-hawk, you may well out-intimidate it and win a game of Baboon-chicken. It's almost like dealing with cougars or black bears!
@@rd959. actually, it's been like this for as long as the game's been out. They haven't had any major code changes that I'm aware of. They have by far the largest code size and most complex mechanics of any enemy

Oh yeah, and once there was a gang of baboons that was afraid of a giant in adamance, and my brother was with them, hidden behind a tree. He had to occasionnaly whack them with a shovel to keep them from having any violent ideas towards him.
I was playing solo once. It was near midnight on Vow, i was bringing back the Apparatus to the ship, I've already at that point lost 2 hrs hiding from a Giant. I dropped the apparatus and made a run for the ship. Once in the ship, i hear as army of Baboon Hawk's came for a "help". They beaten the Forest Giant to death at the last moments before ship automatic take off. It was enjoyable to watch them beat the Giant to death, i lost apparatus and bee hive nearby because of him.
Baboon hawks are basically like some real-life predators (or even other animals for that matter). They stay in groups sometimes, with the most intimidating member being the leader. If they view you as enough of a threat, they'll consider analysing you while keeping you at a distance to not get attacked easily. If they notice that you're scared, they'll view this as an advantage as you'll not be taken seriously (motivates them to attack you, knowing they won't be severely injured) If you show little to no weakness, they'll get scared, thinking you can easily fold them. They're less likely to be as scared in groups, as they might easily overwhelm their target. Keeping eye contact scares them. Viewing a dead version of their kind triggers a fight-or-flight signal. (Common for animals to react this way) If you're hurt, they view this as an advantage (as you're leaving your vulnerabilities open) They're scared of the unknown (ship increases fear meter since it's an unknown object to them) They can take a rest.
Damn... this ai does a really great job at replicating the way real animals act when threatened or trying to intimidate. Its really effective in making these creatures feel real and believable as both threats and just smaller nuisances. Zeekers is such a beast.
