I’m 89 going on 90. Love watching you homesteaders . Can’t do it anymore but sure enjoy watching people do theirs. Brings back lot memories even of my growing up days living on a farm. Lot work ahead of you look forward to see what you do with your property.
I am so happy for you! God bless and give you the strength needed for what's ahead. I'll be 89 soon and watching all you homesteaders working your land makes for such an exciting adventure for me!
For me as well, I've been where they are right now, but I was a lot younger. There is nothing that comes close to the homestead life, except doing it with God's help. Without Jesus it's just another place to live out your life.
Ditto! I am too old for starting from scratch, been there and done it a couple of times. Now, I am so blessed watching you youngsters follow your dream, hard work and all. Anxious to see more of your boys playing and helping do chores. Happy, healthy, blessed family.
Can't believe it has been nearly 3 years since you found tour ideal home...God is so good and when you see He cares about the small things too is absolutely heartwarming!!!
We sold our 4000 sqft expensive home and bought a beautiful double wide on a basement, with an amazing 3.5 acres. Debt was a huge motivator for us too. It's been almost a year and I could not be happier. We just got chicks and are starting to fix up our out buildings. So excited to watch you aventure!
Twenty-eight years ago we moved our family to the farm that had been in my husband's family since the 1840's. The house (built in the 1890's) had never been plumbed and the electric was knob and tube. The structure was sound so we gutted it and completely rebuilt it. If your farmhouse is structurally sound, I promise you will never regret rebuilding it. We don't. You remind me of us 28 years ago. Thank you for sharing your story.
I agree to fixing up the farm house it would be a lot more valuable put their money in to it and forget the single wide trailer tear that down witch holds no value ...
When rebuilding start with the roof make sure there are no leaks. Check foundation or relevel pylons. Remove any damaged exterior siding and replace sheathing if necessary. Use house wrap then exterior siding. Thermal windows and exterior doors next. Any new additions should be done before adding new electrical plumbing and hvac systems. Now the fun begins of refinishing the interior. Take your time and do it right the first time to save time and money.
i started watching your videos today and cried through most of it. Not because it was sad but because your family reminded me of mine. Forty years ago we did pretty much what you two have done or have begun to do. We bought a farm house on 8 acres and cleaned it up. Best thing we ever did. Cow and pigs will take care of the huge Japanese vine. They love it and will grow fat and healthy from it. It took us awhile to figure this out and we lost many of our fruit trees and other things because of it. The vines grew as large as our arms and the leaves smothered everything we tried to plant. The previous owners had planted it to cover a red clay embankment, I think. Huge mistake. I love your videos and am hooked on them now. I just adore your sweet story and the way you two communicate.
I found your channel a few months ago and I truly enjoy watching all you do. I hadn't seen when you got the property. WOW! You have done so much with it!! If I had seen inside the buildings and what was to be my "home", I would have probably run, but it is obvious the main thing you were looking for was the land and you definitely found it. Now I've got to start watching them from this one until current to see what you ran into. You should be so proud of yourself because I know what you have created is fabulous!!
Hallelujah!! Praise God, what a beautiful place you have found, may the Lord guide you through every hurdle you may face knowing that you will come out in victory.
Beautiful property 1) bush hog - tick protection & its nice to see your property😉 2) garden -self sufficient 3) income- built/fix the space for your working area 4) animal helpers - hogs, chickens
GREAT. We also struggled and enjoyed it. We purchased LAND only. Cleared it enough to bring a House Trailer to live in. FOR two years we did. We designed and started building our homestead. It took 10 years. We have a beautiful home. A chicken coop. A maple syrup house.....and a family and a house we LOVE.
Hey, Hollars! This sneak peek is so cute. I see that you're house sitting for the Rhodes family at present. You are such nice people and have the best behaved children on You Tube! Don't forget to get the merch. going so we can all chip in to help. Greetings from an Irish hillside.
So cool for you. We bought 6 acres with the original dog trot, 19th century farmhouse on it as well as a stick built 15 x 30 foot shed, a pump house for the cistern that was once plumbed to a ram pump that supplied the house and, two single wide trailers, one a 1960s single wide (tore it down, too far gone) and the other a 1989 16 x 80 foot Fleetwood mobile home in grossly nasty but, solid shape . Spent $2000 on bringing the 1989 one up to livable and lived in it for two years while we got the garden and chickens set up and restored the farm house. We have now been in the house for 7 years so, basically we are on the other side of where you are heading. Those two years in the mobile home were long and hard. At times I despaired of ever getting the house done so we could move into it but, we stuck with it and are so glad we did. Congratulations and good luck with your new adventure, it IS worth the hard work you have just gotten yourselves into I promise.
Many I am sure view that property as a land fill. Like you I view it as a piece of coal. With time, heat, and pressure it will become a diamond in the rough. Then with steady work and commitment the shine and cut will appear. When that happens it will be the envy of many. Congratulations, now, get to work!
This is just amazing. This was almost 3 years ago you bought your home and look what you have done already. Including the addition of your little girl who I refer to as "little bits". You described your vision and you've worked hard for it to be realized. I am so stinking proud of you two! Well done.
I just found you guys from Abundance Plus and I must say I LOVE your story and also your EXCELLENT editing style for these videos! God bless you Hollars! Keep living the dream 💕
When we bought our homestead a neighbor came over with his excavator and brush hogged the entire thing. It cost something but it was worth so much more - we could see everything, access everything etc. In our case we also had the 3 generations of dumping to clean up (where do they think it goes?!?!) as well as literally hundreds of blackberry crowns to dig out. We wouldn't have even known where to start without it. We've estimated we made over $2000 on scrap alone. Can't wait to watch you on this journey! We are 10 years in and it brings back so many memories!!!
Good idea. Always ask for help where you need it. Its definitely a part of the homestead experience. Then show it on your videos. It makes it very real for us when you do things with your friends and family.
We bought an old farmhouse built in 1940 that includes a one room log cabin they lived in originally plus a two car garage/carport/corner building connected together on one acre. The next yr we were able by buy the barn & another acre connected to it. We love living in the country. We’ve starters two gardens & have a chicken coop with chickens so far. I love that old farmhouse you’ve bought. I can imagine how great it’ll be to fix it up & love in it. Thank you for sharing your lives with everyone!
Tip: Look into shipping containers. They helped us out tremendously for storage while we built our homestead, and now we use them as haymows for our horses. Eventually we will convert them to storage again and one will be a guest quarters for the hunters we host every year (and other visitors). They are awesome as they are water tight, and can adapt as you plans do. Good luck folks!
Oh this was so lovely. Thank you for sharing your new homestead with us. We had a very similar CA to homestead story and watching this is like reliving all the doubt and anxiety and finally relief. Welcome home Hollar's
Oh my....I'm in tears so happy for your family. I have watched your videos since you lived in CA. I freckin' love you guys. I can't wait to continue to follow along in your journey. Now go get those chickens girl!! Congrats on making your dream come true!❤ Lots of love from Wisconsin.
Karen Hernke , me too! When I started watching they were finishing up the remodel on their CA house. It was good. I think it sold in like 4 days, if I remember correctly!
Just joined your channel over from Roots and Refuge! I am SO excited to share your journey with your family! This is amazing!!!!!!!! Love watching dreams come true! I feel so lucky to have found you at the beginning of this excitement! Yaaaaaayyyy!!!! :D
So happy for you guys and the journey God gave you to find your family again and your new homestead!! You guys are an inspiration to our family and others!
Congratulations and Praise God in Heaven! Happy for you and inspired by your dreams and work ethic! I love the way you ended you video with "get to work" and showed the boys marching off to do just that. All the best to you!
Simple living Alaska was my Gateway to watching homesteading channels. Pretty much the only 3i watch now are Simple living Alaska, Three Rivers Homestead and the Holllar Homestead. I think these really get into the spirit of homesteading and also I enjoy the family interaction. If I wasn't 66 years old I would definitely be trying this. Good luck to all of you guys. This is so exciting! Our stories are similar...moved from CA out east, debt free 🙌, excited about our land even though it includes mini “landfills” 😂, and starting the garden first. We moved onto our land at the beginning of the year and we have enjoyed every minute...even the hard days. Keep up the hard work! Remember your vision! Enjoy the process!
Wow! To watch this video, and see just how much you all have grown as a family and have transformed that land over the past 4 years is simply amazing! Great job family!
The day you signed your papers for your property I watched your video and cried with happiness for you and your family. God has truly blessed you. I wish you only good things in the future.
I am so happy and excited for you. The hard work ahead of you will surely be rewarded with the homestead of your dreams. I can't wait to see what you do with the property. Congratulations. AND...... Remember this..... If you are going to dream - Dream BIG!!!!!!

"The dreams we sow are the dreams that will grow" I was so excited when I saw the video posted!! I made my whole family watch haha. I admire your bravery to take such a leap of faith in leaving California in search of something better for your family. When you follow Gods lead the rewards are sweet. If I lived closer id come over and help clean! But I'm stuck here in Southern California wishing I was in NC. Congratulations Hollars!!🎉 Oh and I 💖 "so stuppied excited"
You Can't Eat The Grass - VLOG ...and plenty of room down the way for the boys to add their own houses...especially if you can sometime buy adjoining property.
I'm just now watching this post but have watched y'all for the past year. 1 -Ben you look healthier now, and 2- Y'all have done SUCH a tremendous job cleaning this place up and making it into your dream. Great job Hollars'
Little cheek tears! Wow, so HAPPY for you guys! Feeling it so much! I'm single, 64, old lady! haha, but the DREAM never goes away! I have 2 acres in Texas, and I'm doing it alone, but one day... thanks to great people like you, we might find something even BETTER! So glad I found you guys! Cannot wait to see your videos! YAY!!! Thank you so much for sharing the adventure! LOVE!!! Cissy
Take small wooden book case in barn, turn it on its side, nail 1by 2 along bottom to hold in straw. Makes perfect nesting box for your hens. Wish I was closer so I could help.❤️❤️❤️❤️🐓
There's still a lot of work cut out to make this property what you want it to be but it is yours!! I've been following you before you left California and will continue to follow!! It's been a good ride.
Where are they located? I missed that part of exciting news. And YES what a great idea. I thought it was amazing how folks came together for Jeff at Bobblehead. I know they would do the same for these kids. And as someone already suggested, for those of us who live too far away to actually come and work on the property, an Amazon wish list is a great idea and way to help them out!
Congratulations on the new homestead. Definitely looks like it has a ton of potential. The Rutherfordton area is beautiful. New subscriber, but your story reminds me so much of my wife and I. We met back in '86, and found out we had tons of friends in common for several years and had just missed meeting over and over. Then we got married 5 weeks later. I was only 19 she was 18 at the time, and kids came right away. We escaped SoCal back in '94, and moved to the mountains in SE Oregon after taking a road trip to see northern Utah, Wyoming, Idaho then Oregon with our kids and 2 dogs on an old Ford Bronco. We bought our home in April (3 bdrm, 2bth on 14 acres) then had to go back to CA and wait until the school year ended In June to move in to the home (know how you felt with the anticipation building). After moving to OR, we had goats, chickens, ducks rabbits, a pig, cow, bull, calf (he put 641lbs of prime beef in the freezer). Kind of funny, after 16 years in OR, we moved to SC, not too far from you (about 60 miles away) back in 2010. We are now in the process of buying a new to us place down near Columbia, SC. Our new place is only going to be .7acres for now, but hope to pick up some of the neighboring acreage in the future. Good luck with the new place, look forward to following your progress
I’m 89 going on 90. Love watching you homesteaders . Can’t do it anymore but sure enjoy watching people do theirs. Brings back lot memories even of my growing up days living on a farm. Lot work ahead of you look forward to see what you do with your property.

As a farmer.....i would recomend keeping the dirt floor in the barn. It is much healthier for the legs and feet of critters.
Total agree
so right. Keep it dirt or clay. better all the way around especially if mulched properly

When we bought our homestead a neighbor came over with his excavator and brush hogged the entire thing.
Putting down roots and planting the future. 🌈
I do 't speak for anyone but wouldn't it be great if folks gathered there for a massive cleanup to help them out...
Edward Presutti I’m three hours away. I’m off on Thursdays and Fridays. I’m in man.
That's what I was thinking could happen for them!
A bunch of folks have pulled together and helped out bobblehead homestead in Arkansas. I think it's a great idea. Wish we were closer.
That would be so awesome.
I think I smiled through this entire video. So happy for you family. I cannot wait to see all the progress you make.
