- We’ve been moved into our remodeled mobile home for nearly 6 months, but we’re still in need of some furniture. So of course, Ben made it.

This might not even matter, but our old black walnut went down in our city yard in 1983. We had it sawed into lumber which sat in our garage for 30+ years. Out darling son in law took pieces of it and made his dining room table and bread boards, etc. Our darling lost his battle with leukemia three years ago. His woodcraft will always live on. Much love to your family.
That is so sweet Sorry to hear about the loss. The thought of getting to keep what he created is so touching.
I know you treasure every piece that he made.
To you lovely people who commented .. our Noah’s heart beats on in ours. His art, his knowledge (he was a professor ),his humor (I once told him to carve me a greenman and he did because he thought it would make me laugh, his ability to look at the good in almost any situation, his amazing love for our precious daughter, his laughter, his light ... that is a fraction of what Noah left us. Oh, and the black walnut pieces. ❤️ I’ve gone beyond a comment on Ben’s table. Bless him .. his family. ❤️❤️
How wonderful that he could leave a legacy and a bit of himself that can be handed down through generations. The best part of being a craftsman is that you can pour your love into the things that you make and the people who use those things will always feel that love as they touch and use those items. What a touching story. Thank you so much for sharing it with us. I am glad for your family that you had such a fine man in your family. I am sorry that you had to be parted but at least you know that the parting is only temporary.
Wonderful creative pieces representing his LIFE. Special indeed.
The way Meg looks at Ben, no wonder the man builds all the things. 😄
I know! I saw that too. Compared to the early vids you can see how this transformation/change in their lives has so enriched them. Yep, "they's in love" . I simply adore watching this family bloom.
I was thinking the very same thing.
This is so true I saw that too 😊
Noticed that on so many videos. I don’t think anyone has ever looked at me like that 😂
Guess what? When they start to vlogs you saw Megan dominate entire video 🤣🤣🤣
I want to thank all of you, for letting all of us, be a part of the family.
Lovin that "lullaby" dance Meg!Tell buggie we said hi back! Yes Ben, more project content will be just fine. Anything from the Hollars is just dandy.😊
Love just watching along and the projects are just a bonus!
Yeah! A Holler Homestead video 🌿
Love DIYing your own furniture. Most things nowadays are not built to last.
Things are past to last past the warranty date.... They build stuff to make you buy it again as opposed to the old days where they made things to last a lifetime
DIY is the way to go because they are built to last and they look so great!
Ben did a wonderful job on those night stands. They are perfect for the space too.
I like to buy antique furniture (usually mahogany) and refinish and have it re-apulstered. It lasts better than anything new.
Grandma Lynn says put a cap on that baby and cover her ears!!
I felt that, too - but then I thought, "but they raised all those other kids okay" - but *then* I thought, "but that was in sunny California!" So then I was right back to "She needs a fuzzy bonnet!" :D
My thoughts exactly!
My babies wore bonnets / head coverings til they were two cuz momma always said keep those ears covered 😯
I agree with grandma Lynn
Spot on Grandma Lynn! First thing I thought of, too!
V
Brilliant fix (air compressor). Brilliant build (tables). Brilliant Style (Farmhouse). Always go with what you like rather than what is trending.
I so so so look forward to your videos. You do fantastic woodworking Ben, great job, they really do look great next to the bed. Buggy is growing so fast she is just precious 😍.
Take care guys and God Bless. 💗😁
My husband built me many pieces of furniture over the years. We had so little money at times. They are, without exception, my favourite bits of furniture. The first ones he made were, “get this done, functional” level. Gradually, however, his furniture building abilities, and his time allowance to build grew. Now, although we can buy any furniture we need, he is still building solid well made pieces for me as need arises.
Bless you all.
We live in Maine and have learned never to mess with a cold hose, wire, or cord. Glad you found a fix.
Right. Set those things out in the sun or bring them in the house the night before. Plastic & rubber often shatter in the cold.
Maine here too! 🙋♀️
Being from California, think poor Ben just learned that lesson.
Love anything done with the Hollar Homestead and your Daughter is a cutie pie
Love the upcycling ! I had to do similar when I moved from the UK to New Zealand - didn't want to buy into cheap furniture so found a way to source wood pallets (Heat Treated so no chemicals involved) and turned these into bed side tables, coffee table, shelf, TV stand...I even ventured into doing my own concrete so some of the pieces combine recycle wood & home made concrete - so satisfying to see your own creations in the house ! Looking forward to more similar projects 🙂
Great video....and...I would love to see Ben The Builder.. do more projects =)
The side tables turned out really nice
they will look even better with a coat of bee's wax...
I would at least wax the tops. This will help with not getting water rings.
I was thinking the same thing
Using bees wax will bring out the color in the wood.
Or a clear satin polyurethane!
No USE coconut oil!
That new furniture is getting more and more shabby as years go by. I am sold on getting the old stuff and reupholstering it. Your side tables look wonderful!!
We bought a sectional last June (2019). Normal use and it’s down to springs and wood frame.
@@bethany493 In the past 6 years my son and daughter in law have bought 3 couches and they fell apart right away. I will take the old stuff any day.
Love watching your videos, thanks for sharing your lives.
Hope all your dreams come true in 2021.
We love watching these building projects!
My Dad 91, is a carpenter, he loves that you wear your tool belt and bag...he gets so frustrated with these people running around looking for their tools and not wearing a belt. 👍🇦🇺🦘
Awesome barn end tables! Man that little girl is a doll! She is absolutely adorable!
I am all for watching Ben build stuff regardless what it’s for, house or farm buildings.
I love how your whole family works together. I’m proud of you with these end tables.
I'm so looking forward to all the builds. I need all the inspirational feel happy content I could get. And those tables...LOOOVE!!! Blessings.
I like the bed being white-washed. it contrasts with the walls a bit and it also means that the white heating thing on the wall doesn't stick out. What is funny, is I usually like more natural wood.
Anything is tamale filling, my sister in law even makes cream cheese cilantro jalapen tamales, raisin tamales, dessert like!! Just use your imagination!!!!😊💞
Sounds delicious!
Yesss! Anything can be made into tamales! I like to make left over turkey from thanksgiving into tamales!! So good. Those your sister in law make sound delicious.
I’m a 65 year old gram to 5. I love watching your DIY’s. I’m always sharing with my husband what you have created. I just shared the other day of how ingenious your power poles were. Love your journey.
Awesome work, looks great
Love the barnwood bedside tables! Talented guy!
Looks very nice. Minimalist is the in thing.
Agree!
Watching you build stuff is why we joined this channel when you got the farm in the first place - also the hopeful start to your journey searching out the property...
Besides, "work" fascinates me, I can sit and watch it happening all day :)
LOL.
So great to spend some quality time with the Hollar’s 🙏♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏
Precious Precious Family ♥️
Patricia
We have tried to find products NOT made in China. This is great that you have this skill to make QUALiTY. They are beautiful (loved your shelves in the kitchen as well)
Yup, me too for years.
Little Miss needs a hat..
Also if you needed a drawer you can add another shelf and find a basket to set on it that can be pulled out to use as a drawer....
It's so lovely to watch you two's enjoying your life so much..priceless!
Love the end tables and I like watching people building stuff. ❤️👍
Good Afternoon, beautiful family!
I really look forward to your videos!!😊💕
YES we love seeing you build stuff 😃🥰
I feel your pain over the furniture. When we married we had to combine houses. We preferred his couch and chairs but my coffee table, end tables and matching corner storage cabinet were all real wood, Amish made, Dove tailed connections, no glue, real furniture. They worked great. One day I come home from work and they are gone. He saw some modern style things and bought them. Someone going down the road saw my stuff in the yard and asked if he could have them, so hubby gave them to him. Pieces that cost a lot as they would have lasted for 100 years or more and they were gone! This modern stuff lasted maybe 16 months before they began to split from glue drying and peel from cheap varnish. 10 years later and I'm still wanting my old set back, lol
Sounds like we're in for a treat. Project time!.
any kind of video content is much appreciated Brother.
They came out amazing! Ben is our hero! I can't wait to see you all build more things. Stupid excited! Awww, Lil' Buggy said hi🤗. Hi Lillyanna 👋 🥰😘🙏
I watch because you build stuff. I watch and learn. When I have my homestead I know just what to do, and not do. Please keep building stuff.
I love you guys, the thing I love the most is family values you show
Really nice tables!!😍 your whole family is adorable but that baby just needs squeezing!!😂😂😂😊
Don't you just want to hold that sweet baby? Mine aren't that small anymore and just continue to grow. 😪
@@GoodTimeHollerHomestead YES, those cheeks need squeezing!! I have 3 grand babies that I can't even see right now but I do babysit my friends 3 yr old so that's nice!!💕😀
Sooo nice to see some more of the baby today‼️. She’s growing up sooo fast (and she’s just sooo darling)‼️. ❤️
Every time I see the inside of your house I am in awe at how good it looks.
This turned out great little wood oil and will be perfect
Yay just what I needed today! 😁
Hi..... Meg and Ben nice to see you both and your children to, thank you for sharing your video homestead 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 bye 👋 🎥👍👍👍
I love everything primitive as well, but we recently found out all our old barn wood things had lead, even though they weren't painted. What we learned to encapsulate: wear a mask, wet down the surface!! so particles don't fly into the air as easily, and do the manual sanding/scraping outside but on something that will catch all the little paint/finish pieces, wash clothes right away, and poly a couple times at least. You don't really want to sand thoroughly as you want to just get off anything that is falling off and then encapsulate the rest of the paint/stain with the poly. Even our poly stuff looks like we wanted it too now, and we feel safer with the kids being by it all.
Yes I want to see you build all the stuff, as long as we can also still see Meg and the kiddos too😊
Love seeing things being built..makes home more comfortable/livable also.
Dear Meg and Ben, love your videos, so interesting. My late husband who was a joiner by trade, made all our coffee tables, some almost sixty years old, a corner cupboard for china, a cabinet for our TV and DVD player, and our dining room table. All have stood the test of time. Some of our other furniture belonged to my grandparents, and his grandfather. I have cringed at the modern things, one of my sons had the table my parents bought on their marriage in 1937, and prior to this, it was passed round other family members. Since they parted with it, the table has gone to a friend. I wrote the history of it, by the way. Best wishes from Susan in UK.
I don’t know how you tubers keep their temper with all of the well meaning advice.
Ben & Meg - you’re amazing!! Beautiful family!!
I love to seeing you building furniture, wish I could have learned to do it years ago.
I don’t care what the content it’s just nice you being back good content is a bonus xxx
This is a great video! I love the night stands!
They look great. I would whitewash every part of your nightstands, but the top. That would be cute and tie into your bed. Good job! 💗
Love that idea!
Hey beautiful people!
I love making Tamales, but it is a time consuming job! perfect for a cold day to keep people busy. Love you ingenuity, and ability Ben! Bonus is the encouragement that we just need to do it!
This video is all about potential. Turning raw materials which may seem without purpose to others (while in fact teeming with potential) into a beautiful piece of useful home art shows the potential in each of us, every single day (even if we don't always recognize it in ourselves). You're one of the few homesteading channels I follow; appreciate your genuine celebration of the simple complexities of individual experiences, skills acquired, lessons learned and graciously shared.
Buggie is adorable. You said it was cold maybe she’d get cuddly with a warm knitted hat! I really enjoy the knitting! Great project!
Make an island table and save space.
Thats what I'm planning for my downsized homestead kitchen. I'm checking out several in pinterest for my hubby to build for me. To seat six.
The mommy baby bounce. It becomes second nature.
Ben said that he planned to build a dining table as well as a kitchen island at the end of the blog.
Beautiful sunny day here is Washington State, happy sunny music, delightful home project, and cute little Buggie! My heart is full. Thanks for sharing your life with us.
Beautiful, excellent, and creative nightstands!❤
They are cute. I'll be waiting for the island. Great job.
Buggie needs a buggy.... bouncy seat mounted in a gorilla cart. Every bump she bounces 🤣💗
Ben , MEG is your biggest cheerleader !!! Such a sweet family , I am watching all these older videos of yalls , and I love the wood bed side tables , great job . God Bless.
Yes Ben, whether it be project content, pigs, hens, garden, cutting grass etc etc will be just fine. Anything from the Hollar family is lovely.😊 The little one i s growing up so quickly and what a sweetie. You have a wonderful children. Have a great day till the next time.
Perfect size to go with the bed. They look nice.
So that's where all the ball jars went 😂
Very simple and great! Good job! Remember, you can always stain both bed and side tables with lighter stain in case you want contrast but still give natural and simple shade.
Those tables look great! Nearly fifty years ago my husband made our tables and they have lasted all those years. The only problem with leaving the wood raw is that if you set drinks on it or spill anything on it - sometimes it will make a spot that won't come off. Well made homemade furniture is a wonderful thing to have.
Please wear safety glasses when you work in the shop. Ear protection is also a good idea.
Oh shut up
Meg bouncing the baby was giving me vertigo. 😝
Brings back memories for this mom. Once we have babies, we women tend to bounce and rock anytime we have a child in our arms. lol
natural dance move for moms,
bounce
sway
shake a little,
ohh those are like the air we breathe as mothers holding our babies and even not our very own, just holding a baby , the first impulse to do is dance in different ways to make sure the baby stay calm and happy
I would pass out 😄
Meg is gonna totally melt doing all of that bouncing. She’s already looking like a bean pole. I need a babe on my backside. 😁
All of you guys look great 👍
Ben making things yourself is awesome. So many memories go in that piece of wood that you shaped and brought a piece of wood to life. Turn it over and date it! 👍
Don’t forget to put your name on it too.
👍💫👍
Wow! The wood was even prettier after sanding! The wood for the kitchen table that you showed us.... is sooo beautiful!!
Would love to see a hat on that sweet babies head when it's cold out. 😘
And Socks, I never see socks on that baby. My mama always said put socks on your baby when going out anywhere....you wear shoes, at least put socks on her! It keeps the heat in her body especially in winter
You need to have a bonnet or some kind of hat on your little baby. She could get ear infections.
Wind does not cause ear infections. Maybe the baby doesn’t like hats or bonnets.
Hats are used to keep in our body heat, as heat escapes through our head, especially in babies.. wearing a hat helps maintain body temperature.
There are many things children might not like, but some things are done because its in their best interest/ health/ or safety..
Really like how the tables came out. I would finish them shirley with some danish oil just for a nice but not over powering finish.
But don’t call me Shirley
Your tables turned out so nice.........I love the natural wood and they are perfect for the space. Love love that you did those and a very genuine caring of what Meg loves too.
That one piece of wood for your table would be absolutely gorgeous. Beautiful made into a table for your dining table. Your talents are many and I love that you share them.
Baby is sure getting big........goodness me!
Blessings to you all!
Looking forward to all your projects.... God bless you in all you do!
Loving the two side tables, rustic farmhouse is what I call it and it is perfect! I am looking forward to seeing your other furniture builds for your home and I could not agree more regarding furniture made now a days, very cheaply made and nothing to last! Your daughters smile and giggles made me give a soft chuckle and smile. Keep these videos coming of your projects they are fun to watch! ~peace
"Building stuff" videos are some of my favorite!
nothing more satisfying than making your own rustic furniture awesome job x
YES, YES, YES! I want to see Ben do more with wood. You inspire me!!!!
Screwed and glued OSB furniture is indestructible and a step up from what we had in the 70s orange crate .
Yes, I’m good with more food, more building, more baby, more Hollar’s! 🥰
Ok.. In the beginning of the video, I was like why is Meg bouncing? Totally didn't see the baby and thought she needed a potty break. LOL!!! YES!! Home made furniture is the best. Hence why antiques are popular cause folks know that's the best made furniture. Seems like today, sadly everything is ment to be disposable so you have to buy it again. On trend or not, it is what makes your heart smile that matters! Hugs and kisses to that beautiful bundle of joy and to all her wonderful protectors!!
I love the nightstands ! You will have them for years because they are made of real wood ! They look great in your bedroom. I was happy to hear that you will be making more furniture. It is nice to see your whole family enjoy the end product.
What a delightful find...a video from the Hollar’s.....Lily is such a beautiful baby!......watching papa hold baby while eating brings back a lot of memories when mine were little..eons ago.....God bless y’all abundantly and stay safe and healthy!
Pamala Peterson, my name is spelled Pamala. I asked God, 'What does my name mean, because Pamela spelled with an E means Grace, but my mother spelled it with an A instead of an E'? He replied, "Grace of God".
@@pamwhittemore3476 my father named me and said my name meant giver of joy
Me and my wife have built "rustic" furniture for our place with metal and wood 20 years later still great pieces!
I expect the end tables to be beautiful. Ben is a good builder. Love watching you build things.
Love watching you create furniture or whatever. Upgrading your environment is very satisfying!
Oh honey, you are such a good Momma to all your children. Love your all's videos. God Bless.
I love watching you build your wooden project. And lots of glimpses of that precious little girl is great too. Also had some 'son help' on this project.
Cracking little project. It's those little hand made items that add your own personal touch.
Lol ... You know they'll last many years longer than the regular bought furniture.
More than happy to follow along the ride with whatever you are busy with.
Night tables are a great addition to your bedroom. Give them a clear coat of something to keep them easy to clean.
