In the U.S., that is what keeps people trapped in the system and willing to risk their lives to keep their jobs when the mandates happened. Few have the mindset to trust Our Creator for all we need and not worry about man-made systems of control. They think they're buying safety and giving up their freedom.

We did all of this exactly, in Tasmania Australia, six years ago. It's the best life. I agree with your statement about how everything comes from "the hill", and you end up never wanting to leave it. We have firewood, clean spring and rain water, some of the cleanest air on the planet, and solar we have set up ourselves very cheaply. The animals and gardens provide nearly all of our clean and healthy food. We never want to leave. We still socialize all we want, and maintain all the privacy as well. Friends and family don't all "get it", until they visit for a few days. You just have to be handy and willing to make the effort.

Changing the water filters can be a challenge during the winter. It's best to plant fruit/ nut trees as soon as you can. Don't plant one type of tree I have apples cherries, plums, walnut and sweet chestnut. I think it is better to get a range that can burn wood for heat and cook food. The grey water can water the trees. My poly tunnel provides me with the more exotic foods.

I woke up when I came here nine years ago and have learned so much since that I couldn't learn in my cramped house in England. Like you, we have found that being forced to live with the seasons and in harmony with nature is so rewarding. Would be nice to get more information on how they got planning permission, which is the cancer in the UK when it comes to buying a small holding, and building one’s own home. Hats Off!!! Been saying for years that the more complex our society becomes with tech/politics/work, the more we will yearn for our roots to emerge. We’re made to struggle a bit, but by working the land and caring for our families-not by working for some company making someone else richer than we could ever dream. We need opportunities to breathe, to make connections, to build/create. We need to feel free again.
Fear of the unknown is the greatest obstacle because they have us all brainwashed to think we can’t survive, let alone thrive without modern amenities. Time to escape the matrix.

We can very much relate to Paul and his family!
We bought our 11 acres originally thinking we would connect to the grid. After living in a shed for 2 years and living with a very basic solar system the thought was… we can do this! The thought was cemented when we got a quote to connect to the grid was $50,000. More than being in solar power. It’s a no brainer really.
    We haven’t looked back since.
Love living in our Modern Off Grid home.

I rarely leave comments but this video compelled me to say something. I had a beautiful house in the country (Snowdonia) with 15 acres of land. I also had a very stressy job which I hated but it paid well and so found myself on the hamster wheel. A few yrs ago my 'wife' decided we should separate (we have 3 kids), I fell to pieces to be honest (had 2 heart attacks too along the way) and it took me a good 3 or 4 yrs to get a grip. Now I live in my campervan and have never felt so free. Of course I sometimes miss the bells & whistles of consumerism but recognise for those little yearns there are a whole lot of negatives associated. I'm fortunate to not work now, I have enough money to keep me happy and like Paul said in the video my 'time is my currency'. This was a great video it really made me smile. Paul has an extremely healthy grasp on life. My only gripe about the video was the editing (sorry!!).. when you were interviewing Paul in the field, his son was creeping up to the left of the shot, you panned away to remove him, then you zoomed further into Paul; I would have thought it better to be inclusive of the little boy and involve him in the interview, just my tuppence worth. Great video and 1 more subscriber to your channel!

This has been the best of these kind of videos till now! In a few months time my wife, 2 year old son and 4 months old baby daughter, our Golden Retriever Iroh and me will move to our farm that we're rebuilding. We will be off grid for water and (hopefully really soon) will be off grid for electricity. Our ground is 7,5 hectares (Belgium) or 18,5329 acres.
I want to live without TV (except for these kind of videos that I can watch on my phone, or the occasional movie night). But I can't force it on my wife. Our life's today in the system with this overload of media is not easy. We need to go back to a more natural way of living.
