  • Thanks for watching.
    Rather than going to the main dealers here is a list of the aftermarket part numbers that i used for this job.
    Rocker Cover Gasket Part No - 368 59 0701
    Injector Oil Seal (4 Required) Part No - 368 59 0920
    Copper Injector Seal (4 Required) Part No - 449770370
    If you give these numbers to your parts supplier they can cross reference the numbers to get the same part.
    Dont jump straight to conclusions just because the engine is breathing heavy. This is the most common mistake making you think your engine is failing when in fact it is a cheap fix!!

      Hi , I watched your excellent video and reckon my fiat ducato which has the 2.2 diesel Ford puma engine has the same problem. The leak came from within the intake manifold and out through the Union with the air sensor housing and the egr connector pipe. This is over the alternator that died due to oil running into it. Question is where do buy your parts so cheap as I've been quoted 5 quid for one copper washer from euro car parts.
      Or if I get an ebay kit .can you reccomend one of them .
      Also I've seen people just change seals without taking rocker cover off and cleaning. But I thought I wouldn't want to slide the injectors back through all that crap . All suggestions gratefully recieved.
      Bob from leeds

      @@bob-dp3ec Hi Bob. Since making this this video the price of the parts has gone up a fair bit (especially the washers as they are copper) I domt use ebay parts as I ca t guarantee them so use such as Euro and SDL.
      Yes you can do it without taking the the rocker off but you cannot clean inside doing it that way. Given the state of them when this happens its always best practice to remove everyrhing and give them a good clean out.

      Hi , sorry to be a pain but I'm have a tiny problem. I've got the seal kit and rocker gasket. Unfortunately the 8mm bolt at front nearest side that also holds a mount for the injector fuel tube. Is really tight and I don't want to risk breaking it.
      Is there away on loosening it ?
      If I can't get cover off how can I clean where the injectors are seated on washers , because it is pretty oily in there.
      I was thinking of a vacuum with half inch tube.
      Any help gratefully recieved as alway .
      I'll try to attach photos
      Cheers Bob

    YES!!! Was meaning to come back and thank you for this. Did this repair myself. Turns out when I got the seal changed by my brilliant mechanic, one of his guys put a clamp upside down and that led to a terrible knock after a while. When I took the injectors out, one of the tips was swollen. Changed all 4. How the mechanic and his "technicians" didn't see that is beyond me...

    Had this issue with 2.4 Puma. Local garage had two goes at it, but not a long term fix - problem recurred. Sent to Transit specialist with same result. Decided to tackle it myself, and recut the cylinder head seats - gently by hand. Renewed the injectors with genuine seals and it has been a 100% success. Don’t use cheap copper washers, and ensure seats are clean to provide a seal.

On looking around the engine sitting on idle i saw the No.3 injector bouncing up and down like a mini pile driver. If you tightened the injector and it stopped the smoking then i would replace the seals. You will need to do a fuel pump learn on it and that will sort the running issue out. The ecu adapts over time so whenever you do anything to the fuel system you need to re learn the pump.

I’ve got a 61 plate transit in currently over pressurising pushing the oil up out of the dip stick but only started too do so after bleeding the fuel system after replacing the fuel filter as the fuel filter was in a very bad state which is another major issue with diesels most people don’t change the fuel filters making components work harder it should be made a legal requirement if you own a vehicle mot regular services and more random vehicle checks for tyres as the state of tyres and people only come in when it’s wet and they notice that suddenly they ain’t able too stop due too the tyres being like a f1 cars slicks and also people an mot is not proof that your vehicle is road worthy for a year it’s only proof that at the time of test the vehicle was presented in a roadworthy manner and passed at that time you are solely responsible for the running and upkeep of your vehicle and you are responsible if your involved in a traffic collision

Oil pump failure/failing causing lack of oil to the tappets, Timing chain tensioner failure to the chain isnt as tight as it should be so rattles, the other thing is the Fuel metering valve that causes the injectors to rattle like mad (usually only on tickover)

    Hi, could I have your opinion please? Had a smokey engine, 2.4 puma in a 2011 defender, for ages until my mechanic worked out it was the turbo putting oil into the engine. All good, new uprated turbo and engine ran great, for about three months. Now smoking again, down on power and a different sound to the engine, metalic is how I'd describe it, and smoke from the breather on the left of the head when unclipped. Two mechanics say I need an engine rebuild. Now I watched this video I wonder could it be an injector? Thanks!

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  3 года назад

      Yes it could be an injector seal. Remove the oil cap and see if you can hear a puffing noise. This is a tell tale sign of injector seal failure. Another thing that can cause smoke and power loss is a faulty EGR valve.

I've recently changed injectors and its been running fine, over the last 2 days when I start from cold I get heavy blue smoke for 20 seconds and you can clearly hear the engine misfiring as it runs on the oil in the cylinders, after 20 seconds engine runs mint and will do so all day until the next morning where I will get the same blue smoke and misfire issue. I've pulled injectors and the seals don't look like they have been leaking, and I know I have only 1 working glow plug so I am in the process of replacing these aswell. The only issue I have found is I can see that piston 4 is wet but the others are dry. Could this be a cracked piston? Cheers

      @lifes.projects  8 месяцев назад

      Hi. You have eliminated the injector seals be replacing them. Did you do a re-learn on the fuel pump? If not try that and see if it makes a differance. The only other thing it could be if its still doing it when you have replaced your heater plugs is valve stem oil seals. Basically when they have failed they allow oil to seep through and into the cylinder giving the blue smoke when started first thing if left for a few hours. If you had a cracked piston the engine would missfire / run lumpy and smoke all the time.

      @@lukegadd4988 well a flush should clear out the oil galleries. If your concerned it damaging it then do an oil and filter change with fresh oil and flush it

    Hi just wanted to ask I have a 2015 plate transit van 2.2 getting no response on cylinder 4 just wanted to ask ur opinion on it coz the guy at the garage said it needs new engine

    • @lifes.projects

      If there in no compression then something has gone wrong with the cylinder/valves. It would need the engine stripping to find out the fault or the engine replacing. I did one earlier in year on a 15 plate custom. No compression on cylinder 4 so replaced the engine

      @@lifes.projects thanks for the advice the engine starts up and ticks over and can Rev up like normal but cylinder 4 anit got no response u think it might be that rocker cover gasket and the injecter gaskets and Cooper gasket ring u think that will work mate

      @@robertbrazier6356 Its hard to say without looking at it. They suffer with injectors and that causes engine damage. You need to ask if theres any compression. Thats really the only reason why your engine would need replacing.

    Any idea of the torque settings for the holding stretch bolts that go on the saddle type bits anyone? Cant find them anywhere and ford are 'shifty' about sharing info!

    How does the copper washer seal go on? Mine look like they’ve got glue on them? I’m lost

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  2 года назад

      You literally place it on the injector, put it in the engine and torque up the bolt. The glue might be dry diesel thats crept past the washer.

      @@lifes.projects I think it’s actually sealant from a bad repair.
      New injectors in and seemingly much much improved.

    Could this problem also cause the front crank seal to leak? I've just fitted a new front crank seal and its still pixxing oil out from the seal, Quite a lot of pressure from the filler cap. This problem could cause a fire quite easily if I can't fix It😂

    • @lifes.projects
      @lifes.projects  11 месяцев назад +1

      Could be as the pressure from the injectors will cause it to leak at the weakest place. Only other thing is a faulty seal of damaged when fitting.

      @@lifes.projects Thanks, I'm guessing crank pressure as the clutch has also started to judder🙈I'll give the seals a go and let you know later in the comments👍
