      I have an issue with Logic 11 and Sonoma, when saving a session... The finder folder view doesn't show even after clicking on the disclosing magnifying arrow to enlarge the folder options available. It only shows the drop down menu of last folders that can be selected. Not sure if this is a bug or am I missing something, as this usually worked fine earlier.

    This is the reason why engineers are picky about which company’s plugins we buy. Quick turnaround time on Mac updates and continued support are built into the pricing structure of purchasing plugins & should be heavily considered when buying!

    Thanks for sharing your insight Chris. I'd like to add (if you didn't already) that it's very wise to NOT upgrade anything (MacOS, Logic Pro, etc.) when you're in the middle of project or gig. I've done this before and it turned into a nightmare with Logic Pro issues galore.

    A far better advice is to follow the one year rule. That is to work from the assumtion that you should always stay one year behind on the OS. This is especially important, when dealing with audio software. Most other types of software (video editors, graphics, spreadsheets, etc.) only require that the application itself is compatible. This isn't true for DAWs, though. They rely on software (drivers, plugins, etc.) from lots of different vendors, to work reliably together.
    When a new OS version is released, start checking the websites of all the manufactures of software you rely on (even those that you have recieved compatibility mails from). If there is one vendor that you can't comfirm compatibility from, after one year, contact the vendors support.
    Not only should you check for compatibility with your OS, but compatibility with your DAW as well. Once you have confirmed compatibility for ALL software you use, then it's time to upgrade. NOT before! All the sexy new features are useless, if they crash your DAW.
    Of cause, all the advice about thoroughly backing up everything, before upgrading, is still vital!

    • @sangstersounds
      @sangstersounds  2 месяца назад

      The one year rule is a great method as well! I just like to update a little more regularly so I have developed this method that allows me to do that but also always be able to revert if something breaks.

    I have my installed MacOS on a fast external SSD (Thunderbolt connection). If I would update MacOS, I have the option to use a new SSD in the external enclosure. That way, I have the previous installation ready to swap when needed. That would take me probably less than 10 minutes. And if I don't need to go back to the previoud Msc OS, then I have a bootable backup which you can never have too many of. Extra benefits: I don't have to pay for Apple's SSD upgrades when getting a new Mac.

    2 rules....... Never update without a reason, there almost never is a reason good enough and worth the risk. Wait a few months at least and don't forget the update for your current os. Scroll down the will appear inder the latest update (when you check the orange dot and see Sanoma for example there could be a Ventura update waiting. People think they need to turn off auto update (this is not necessary major update wil ask you anyway to install) i know its scary but I am not kidding....

    I always update on day one of updates and never have a problem. I also do not rely on creating music for my income. My habits might in general help everyone have a more stable system. Firstly, never use hardware that requires drivers. That also means they are core audio compliant. A driver can't be incompatible if there is no driver. Second, I pay close attention to software vendors whose software tends to break with new system updates. I simply will not use their offerings. Fabfilter good, Slate bad. In using things that have a history of not breaking and avoiding software that has a history of new-system incompatibilities has this hobbyist worry free since the very first Mac came out in 1984 all the way through to today.
