As an extra tip for the first part, if you buy a box for the army you are planing to build you could check out a Kill Team box. They aren't very expensive, have their own datacards to use on 40k and even if you don't end up playing that army you still get to play KT with a second faction
I got my very first box! A “normal” not kill team Tau Pathfinders box. Though I intend to use them as a compendium kill team list. I built them and primed most of the models and I started my first base coat! So very exciting
@@TheBugB invest in a cheap ring light like the ones a tiktok influencers would use. Make sure the color isn’t too warm or cold, mine had three settings and it helped immensely. If you find you love the hobby you can upgrade to one with a magnifying glass in it or something but just a cheap one will do for now!
Great tip! I did something similar and upgraded to a daylight lamp last year with a 6000 kelvin neutral bulb, really helped to see what colours I was actually paining on my models. A ring light or even searching for a dayylight lamp has some very affordable options too.
Thanks for the video, I learned something again. I'm currently getting in to the hobby. Just bought the core rulebook, love the lore in it! Stil deciding on a army tho.
As much as I love the codexes(codexi?) as a full package, they become outdated in almost a week. After a handful of editions I just buy the for fluff and art more than anything as the rules and points will be changed on a whim. Still helps with learning lore and what you end up connecting with. Another great video though, very valuable channel! Keep up the good work.
It's a shame some of the rules (and points) get changed so quickly. I think for me it all changed when my 9th edition votann army box had a rule change before it was even released! I'm not too bothered about points changes as that's easy enough to take into consideration, especially now we expect it. But I'll still end up buying them for the same reason as I like the lore, the artwoirk brought me into the hobby, painted sections for some inspiration and skimming through units to see what I like all in one place. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the comment!
Got lucky and spent some back pay on an entire Grey Knights force all at once along with professional airbrush/tank, tools, materials, etc. Wait till you see my silvery knights with a sheen of pearlescent tint.
Glad you enjoyed it and see it being useful, appreciate you sharing it. Hope you’re as excited as I am for the new Pioneer Kill Team too! Rock and Stone!
I know this is a little bit later, but I’ve recently (last few weeks or so) gotten more and more into WH40k . I’m interested in every aspect from the lore, factions, painting, playing etc I REALLY like the Adepta Sororitas, and also kinda like the Necrons. But way more leaning to towards Sisters lol My question for you I guess would be in regards to helping me to build a small effective army? Also wonderful video, thanks for the time you’ve put into it
Welcome to the hobby! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. In terms of starting an army, my best piece of advice for these two specifically would be try building and painting a box of troops. So for the sisters it would be a unit of battle sisters and necrons it’s the warriors. In terms of the latter I’m sure you’ll be able to pick some up from eBay or Facebook marketplace very cheap as they were in all the starter sets last edition. If you’ve got an independent reseller where you live/online that’ll save you a bit of money too compared to direct from Games Workshop. Give that a try, with the hobby side and putting them together and see if you do enjoy it and can see yourself building a fair number more. If after that you do enjoy the sisters, which are a fantastic army especially the visuals, then potentially adding on a combat patrol would give you a really solid expanding point and one of the only value boxes GW do. It includes a cannoness which is a great character, another battle sisters squad which is always helpful, the seraphim are great units in game for objectives and secondaries, repentia are a good melee unit (albeit not the best defenses in those t-shirts) a rhino to either take them where they need to go or the Battle Sisters and the arco-flagellents who are great right now. Combat Patrol is also a good way to start playing smaller sized games too, so that’s a plus. But if you didn’t fancy that box, just adding a character so you have a Warlord to lead your force and then whichever units you like the look of works really well. With their 10th edition codex coming in the summer, you’ll have access to a whole load more detachments and ways to play the army. So for now, the best thing would be to jump in with the hobby side, picking the models you like and slowly growing a force ready for the summer. Then when the codex comes out, you can specialize to more shooting, melee or a combination of both. One thing to remember is that these rules will change throughout the course of your hobby journey, so having models you love the look of, want to paint and play with is the most important thing. Hope that is of some help - feel free to message again or email if you have any further questions.
@@TheCommandPhase wow. First off thank you for such a quick and thorough response. It’s amazing some of the people I’ve met early on in this hobby so far. I think overall ima fan of the sisters. I’ve watched multiple tabletop battles with them . I ADORE aesthetic and what I know of the lore is just wicked . I’m a little worried about the painting of faces. But I still think this is the faction I would like to start. Thanks so much again I will come to this comment very many times in the near future. And reach out for sure with more questions !
No worries at all! You can always give the vast majority helmets. I think it’s only really the repentia that don’t have options for that. But honestly with there being so many great tutorials out there, you’ll find it won’t be as difficult as you may think 🙂
I've just added a pinned comment to the video to include all 3 of the lists (1000, 1500 and 2000pts) for you to grab. In terms of the Thunderkyn, they are in a really good spot at the moment, pretty cheap and a fantastic anti tank option for the army and it would be 4 boxes of them. That being said, if you would prefer to spend the points elsewhere for any part of the force feel free to. This is just a guideline of how I built my army to show the decision making I made when doing so, but we could easily swap in a few different models/units depending on which you prefer to play with/fits into a budget. Hope that is of some help!
Building an army based on combat patrol is not a good idea. There are very few CP that are really good and there are always bunch o units that are simply weak or useless. Just look up on a tournament lists and compare it to the CP units.
That suggestion was more for people entering the hobby/beginners that want to play smaller games and slowly grow. While some of the units may well not be “Meta” picks right now, and as I’ve just talked about in the latest video where only 4 of the combat patrols were utilised in building competitive lists for each faction, it’s still a very popular way for new players to get started playing 40K and grow into the game. If their sole intention was to jump in and play competitive 40K straight off the bat, then 100% the advice would be different and would be pushing them down the line of what you’ve just mentioned. Although some units may well change each each dataslate/codex release.
Here are the lists for my example Votann force that I built. This is by no means a perfect army and feel free to build yours how you'd like to!
