Mike mcvey is the OG Eavy Metal.
Look up Eavy metal modeling guide
If that guide and Mike mcvey never existed, I would not still be in the hobby.
Hi Eric! I'm new on your channel and i found your works amazing! I saw a lot fo your videos about make terrains and...
MAY I CHALLENGE YOU??
I have never found a video of anyone making the interior of a biostarship, like the tyranids hive ships. I think the difficult part is to create a biological aspect, being the inside of a living being, rather than a biomechanical aspect, as many tend to create in certain drawings that I see on the net, like Giger style. What do you think about it? would you like to test yourself and your skills?
(sorry for my english, it is too much time that i don't use it)
You have a great channel. I enjoy your scratch builds for diorama. Great to watching create some impressive out simple everyday stuff. Fantastic at painting.
Tip for your decals. Micro set and micro sol are great products. Make a world of difference, but perhaps these are the extra steps you didn’t add in the video. So I apologize if these are things you already knew. Been building scale models for 20 years now. Minis are just always so much fun to paint. Anywho I’m putting my full steps instead of just the ones I thought were missing for decal application:
1. Apply a gloss coat on the area that will receive a decal. Spray or brush on gloss varnish (Vallejo) will work just fine. The gloss coat when dry creates a super slick surface which will allow air to escape from underneath the water slide transfer decal. A flat surface will trap air and create micro air bubbles. The micro air bubbles then create a shiny silvering affect on the translucent decal paper surrounding the decal. Look up decal silvering. You’ll see what I mean.
2. Apply the decal, use micro set if you want. I really don’t find it’s that necessary. I use the partner product micro sol and I get the same result.
3. After the decal has dried apply micro sol and the decal will soften entirely and suck onto or into irregular surfaces like panel lines.
4. Once it is dry, seal the decal with a clear coat. I usually apply a flat to undo the effects of the gloss sheen. Check out mr hobby for a great flat clear coat. Super dry in application. Worth the extra money. Also it really preserves dry pigment powder effects unlike every other flat clear coat I’ve used.
Great video!
"It's not competitive, but I straight up don't care." - I couldn't agree more, mate. Words to live by.
👊 😎
Me and my buddies will live and die by this code. For example I kitted out my Thunderwolf Cavalry pack leader a while back to dual wield chainswords. Would it be tournament legal? No. Does anybody really care? No, I don't believe so lol
I came to comment on this. As a new player, this makes me feel safe on this page. I'm here for the fun.
@@Lmaonaise97 how does that work playing at say a local game shop? Would that be allowed there?
@@SD-kw2bn I think it wouldn't really matter as long as the person you're playing against is cool with it. If not you could just agree on the dual chainswords being there for looks and not what he's actually equipped with for gameplay purposes.
Those Tortuga models worked incredibly well for bringing that Classic Marine style up to date. Also, that edge highlight at 0:21 was 👌
Thanks Pete! A smooth edge highlight is a wonderful thing
Another tip for specifically space marines to save money is too convert all your HQs. Most are pretty simple and with just a couple bits and some green stuff you’ve save almost $100
And you'll have absolute unique carakters.
What do you mean by converting HQs?
@@valryu8072 for example, using a stock marine and giving it (for example) a power sword and pistol to become a lieutenant instead of buying an expensive lieutenant model from gw.
@@valryu8072 littarly in the dark imperium box was a lieutnant with a chainsword and a bolt rifle. only unique thing to him was, that the bolt rifle had a belt attached to it. so littarly if you buy intercessor marines and assault intercessors you can do this guy 20 times.
but lets be real, most of those hq´s fly on ebay for 5 bucks each just like the newer model from the indomitus box with the shield and plasma gun. - wich you could kitbash into a bladeguard ancient and save money again
I would also put them on a "tactical rock". By being a bit taller, they stand apart from your Sargents.
Eric has good taste. Bretonnians, Titans, Black Templars, Fortresses. All the best stuff.
Thanks man!
Don't forget astra militarum!
Caught this video in the first 35 seconds! Just wanted to say I'm a big fan of your content. You definitely stand out amongst an increasingly saturated channel category!
Thanks Benjamin! Very kind of you to say so
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop I second this. Your stuff is close to my heart and you know what you're talking about.
It shows that you are passionate about the things you present, you don't just make a new video because the algorithm says it's time to make a new video.
That's the main difference between you and most other channels. F*ck the algorithm. Keep doing what you like doing, when you want to do it.
Among us????
I love that when you hover over this video in the sub feed, the preview is a resin printer. That's the correct way to start a 40k army!
It is??? Haha thats one thing that we can’t control as creators. Sometimes its the most annoying clips that sell the video short!
5:07 - I've always wondered why people build their land raiders with the sponson weapons behind the side exit doors.
If I'm exiting from a land raider, I do NOT want to be in front of a pair of lascannons.
That seems to be the official position. Interestingly though, the variants with stuff like flamers have them on the front rather than the back, since they have shorter range.
It's ok, friendly fire is not affected....., it just warms their backs. They actually like it, it melts the plastic and their parts become stronger..
One of the most entertaining hobby RUclipsrs
Thank you! Im doing my best!
I am glad the group of friends I play with don't mind me using different weapons, I built a demon prince with a spear. It's definitely not a legal loadout, but it looks awesome and that's the point of the hobby for me.
3rd edition boxset was my first foray into the WH universe...found the game easy to learn and the aesthetics unmatched. Hook, line and sinker. 20 years later, I'm still a fiend for the lore, but have scaled down to skirmish level and narrative play...mostly because of the rule-of-cool to which You've alluded in the initial stages of list building and avoid the cyclical rules/loadout changes (Terminators can ride in a Landraider, but Primarus can't!?! Bahhh).
Looking forward to this continuing series as well as the others mentioned.
Keep up the great work, Pops!!
Your inspiration is my inspiration. I loved watching the process you followed to get yourself a Black Templars army - and I am in awe at the suggestion on how to paint shadows and texture on the minis! Can't wait for the tutorial on that ruin; makes your Black Templars pop.
Thank you! I was pretty pleased with that fabric trick
If you don't want to use micro set/ sol, you can use a bit of vinegar on the transfer or a hairdryer, and seal it with matte varnish.
Jordan Belfort as the GW salesman got me.
Im glad you liked that bit haha
Same... 8 months on and I scrolled open a ton of comments to do a search for someone else commenting on this haha.
@11:25 great idea! I feel stupid that this didn’t occur to me xD
At the end of the day, the best way to save money in this hobby is to limit your purchases. The easiest method: only buy new minis, when everything else is built and painted and buy hobby supplies when you need them for a project. I don’t know a single wargamer, who doesn’t have at least a 3 digit number in purchases lying around unbuilt or unpainted. That easily eats up the difference of buying from your FLGS vs a discounted online shop =)
The quality of video: Gorgeous
The quality of this dude’s skill: astonishing
Narrating: On point
Everything was amazing! Keep up the amazing work brother!
Hell yeah! was gonna go to bed then this came up the first models I ever painted were Black Templars
That 3rd edition art is still some of my favorite. It brings me back to playing 40k as a kid every time I see it!
John Blanche art is why I got into Warhammer, and probably the reason ill be a fan forever.
"This is definitely not the most competitive approach to building an army, but I just straight up don't care."
Amen. Subbed.
Your camera and production quality have improved so much from just a year ago, I’m so glad you found success and are able to create such great videos
Thanks for noticing! I am working hard to improve
Cool army Eric! Starting new factions is always fun.
That frame of Maplewood Hobby took me right back to when I got my first Yu-Gi-Oh deck with my dad. Peak nostalgia
I’ve been watching along since you started your videos are a huge inspiration I love how you sometimes take the long way around to make sure your creations look high quality and it shows your commitment to give only your best I’m a huge fan
Loved this video man. Great inspiration
I started to dip my toes into 40k this month. got a second hand primaris half of the dark imperium set for quite cheap. got inspiration from the space marine video game, altering a few details (less gold, more black). and I love the idea of these 20-something giant dudes with giant guns, firing while still moving forward to punch whatever's still alive.
it's the whole package for me: cool looking toy soldiers, painted with colors I like, that play how I want (at range, being able to punch things if necessary)
One of us! Have all the fun on this new hobby journey of yours! The one thing to keep in mind: Do what you find cool, and don't let anybody tell you what to do and how to do it!
This has to be one of the most helpful guides out there... Its a really genuine look at what starting the hobby was like for me at least
Your recent videos have been especially good lately. I love how you're spending the time to introspect and think about things other than just the technical way to create your landscapes and figures. It makes it very apparent the amount of love an attention you put into the hobby.
I don't even play 40k, but watching your videos makes me understand why people do
Thank you! Its a new approach to how I produce my videos. I have been actually writing scripts instead of just narrating what I did. I find it helps me structure my thoughts more clearly and improves the flow of the video a lot.
@@EricsHobbyWorkshop It really makes for good watching. As much as you might enjoy watching videos about crafting hobbies, at a certain point if you just watch videos which serve as a list of instructions on how to paint something it will get stale, but by getting a glimpse into the head of the person crafting it keeps everything fresh
Using other makers parts and pieces to "make it my own" has been a huge part of my hobby. I LOVE seeing kitbashed and reworked figures that are unique. Love the videos - keep up the great work!
Amazing stuff. Really enjoyed this.
Amazing I'm my self in hobby for more than 20 years and this video was a inspiration for my niece to explore more of GW staff and minis&models in general. Happy new year ;]
Thanks for making this video dude, really enjoyed it
Great video, Eric! I'm staring down my first full army project now so the tips are very helpful.
Great inspiration to get me started on painting my space wolves!

This awesome episode is so 100% my juice, I always approach my projects like this...but all this advice and tips in one video is golden!

Your videos have a really positive and supportive feel to them. Full of good advice. In a hobby that can sometimes feel quite negative, it’s nice to see someone love what they do and inspire others.
Thanks and keep up the good work

Wonderful! So glad to hear that :)
WH40k boxes are like a box of chocolate, ok we know what we are gonna get, but then we just want more.....
Just started collecting them in December! Im obsessed now with the boys in black
So many great tips in such a short amount of time and you still keep it detailed and in-depth. You're definitely one of the best content creators in the hobby out there!
Ps. Don't think I didn't see your epic 40000 box... Would love to see some custom terrain (or armies!) in the future :) ds.
New to warhammer I'm scouring RUclips for good videos on how to get started and I found you!
Thank you for your content and any advice you have on a great cool start on an army
I love those blacked out Terminators. I didn't think I would but seeing them in that smooth black with just a few strategic white highlights, gorgeous.
Can’t believe I missed your channel for so long, you do a great job, thank you.
ive had some of those tortuga bodies hanging around for a bit but i was REALLY blown away by how good those terminator ones look, i think ill have to get me some of those now
I have for some reason watched this several times 10+, over the last months. Just something about these army videos you make that reminds me of the fun and enjoyment of the hobby. Makes me excited to start up my old projects again.
Awesome Video! New to your channel, (was suggested it by the friend who got me into this game) and loving it so far! It's nice to have a chill place to enjoy the art in the hobby without stressing over the competitive side. Also i find your use of other parts in general, inspiring!
Maaan. Ive seen this channel grow and im honestly so proud of you dude. It's an honor to be a long time subscriber! Keep it up!!!
Some great tips
Great video. Love the paintjob you did. Never heard of the Zorn palette before. Thanks to you and Battlescribe for the plug @14:59 by the way.
I've enjoyed your videos for a long time, Eric, but this one concludes the longest binge yet. Awesome work, man. I'm almost finished with my Dark Angels combat patrol and ready to build some industrial desert terrain to match using your techniques, and I can't wait to get started. Thanks!
Nice video thank you. I have 3d printed that same hooded statue guy. I use it to test colors on at my paint desk. You're a hobby beast!
Great content as always!
Gotta say, I love the tone and humor of your vids!
Great video…always like seeing how others approach starting an army.

Great video 🤩! Really ... Thank you for the advice
Great content, thank you.
They look great, as do the ruins. Can't wait to see more.
Thanks for the video!
I just started my first army, with the Grey Knights!
I started with the Codex, data cards, one combat patrol, one paladin squad, Castellan Crowe and Grand Master Voldus.
Phenomenal video.
its the first video i watched from you, not even playing 40k but its just so good and rlaxing listening to you, keep it up, very good work mate, earned a sub just by that :)
That's a beautifully clean and sharp paint job on your Templars. That cleric mini is fantastic; making a great Watcher in the Dark.
11:08 That's a neat lapsed-time tracking shot.
Wow! The painting on that commander's head is awesome.
That was a great vid!
Gave me the motivation to finish painting my necrons!
Nice!!! Love to hear it
Totally relate to that thing about glossing over rules < learn by doing
Tbh I have no interest in making a War Hammer army, but I can still get super inspired by your amazing skills. Also I love that you want to help people and get them into the game. Great work
sharp look'n army, can't wait to see the temple that looks sweet
Mate, bloody ripper of a job, gave me some mad nostalga for my Templars (which i still have in a box somewhere lol)
0:59 dang I remember this picture, still think I have it in one of those handout catalogs GW gave you when you stopped in their store
8:51 Boys (summertime love) by Sabrina Synthwave cover? Love it. Im Liking the BT's Eric.
Man, this is such a nice and comprehensive video. It's not just informative for new people, but even someone like me went like "Oh that's a smart idea." with some things.
I would love to see a video with more of your Black Templars army!
Great army 😀 and great video
Recently found your channel and been enjoying it a lot..
Been playing for 16ish years now and have been scaling up my sons of Medusa have 20k of them its one hell of a project but so work it. Tortuga does great work.
It's really funny that you make that Video right now. I follow your videos for quite some time now, but I'm just about to restart WH40k after 15 years, thanks to my best friend who got totally lost in the lore rabbit hole and wanted to start playing now. So thank you for this Video and for all your content in total - I'm a huge fan of it and of your style!!
Loving your channel dude. Only just came across it, but your approach and skill level are fantastic.
