The Black Templar do follow the Codex Astartes to an extent, they just loophole the restriction on chapter size by constantly being on Crusade. Now Space Wolves, they don’t follow the Codex at all.
They don’t follow almost anything about the Codex. Since Sigismund every Marshall fight his own crusade with his own tactics and structure.
True, there is 1 similarity. They are space marines but that is almost where it ends 😆
Except we don’t
Space wolves don't follow the code of basic hygiene nevermind the Codex Astartes though lmao.
Yeah but still, in order to be a legion, they would need to be 10,000 strong and be led by a Primarch, and Black Templars, as a *Chapter,* just break the 1,000 strong rule for chapters... so they're still just a Chapter, but they went over the manpower limit.
Another reason they *can't* be a legion, is that they are *not* part of the first founding. They are one of the chapters formed out of the Imperial Fists, therefore according to the lore, they're literally a chapter.
Jay: not enough fat guys in 40k
Plague Marines: am I a joke to you?
They are not fat, they just have thick tentacles
@@serse8455 don't you dare downplay the girth and weight of my feculent and bloated corpsemen.
@@serse8455 have you seen the models lmao, some of their chest plates bulge very noticeably
@@ieatmice751 not as noticeable as the joke you missed
The great unclean one is the most absolute unit.
If you skip every 10 seconds all you hear is black templar over and over lol
Crusade squad needs a killteam list, neophytes with shotguns fit in killteam
I’m so glad that they gave Helbrecht a helmet, because I have always thought his crown or circlet or tiara looked super lame. It looked like he was wearing those old prescription sports glasses, “Rec Specs”. It was honestly the reason I never bought the old model.
GW knocked it out of the park with the BT models. Especially the Character Models.
BT was my first 'proper' marine army when the 4th(?) Ed range was created, so I've always been a fan
I agree, I was collecting black Templars before this stuff came out, but I really hated the new Primaris because they were super bland and meh, but when this came out I fell in love and started even collecting primaris, because with the new sprues and parts from Crusader Squads they look great
I agree. I only had Tau until the new Templar stuff came out. I couldn’t help myself, had to start a Templar army.
Too much Death Stranding...I first thought of Beached Things xD
I've got say: That new champion is mogged by one of the ordinary marines in the Templar squad, who looks far better and more fitting than the actual model itself.
@@rutgaurxi7314 Which model are you talking about?
With so many primaries kits looking way too clean and tacticool, BT stands out having made the transition with the grimdark aesthetic entirely intact. Might have to start a BT collection at this point. 🤔
One of my favorite things is videos of people talking about their obsessions. It’s so fun watching people be so happy and wanting to share the thing they love so much.
I've always thought this was the best type of conversation to have with someone. Just listening to people be passionate about something
If you liked the skull shoulder pads from the castellan, Grey tide studio just did a STL Kickstarter that has versions of these, I'm planning on converting a whole bunch of reivers with skull shoulderpads.
Just checked them out, they have some cool StLs for sure. Collecting necron's atm though so doubt the shouldr pads will fit hahaha. When I get round to Black Templars I'll give them a go, thx bud.
Admitting to collecting Reivers, fucking oof!
I love that most of our chapter specific models are integral parts of the army. Like Helbrecht and Grimmy are both top tier HQ picks and lots of folks are building armies around big blobs of crusaders.
Please let give Sword Brethren another wound or unlock their wargear selections!
The Black Templar Army is what got me into Warhammer40K, I'm happy that GW gave this army some more love after all these years.
Hey Jay. Just wanted to give you a huge thanks. Im 32 and literally just started dipping my toes in 40K. I'm sure you can understand that starting hhis hobby from scratch is A LOT to take in all at once, but your enthusiasm about the hobby really made it seem like so much fun that I had to try it out for myself (Not one regret ever since). I haven't tried tabletop just yet, although I did drop in my local hobby shop and they invited me to a "40K day" event they do there so I can sort of learn as I watch, I do hope to do it sooner than later. Love your videos and kep up the good work man.
Ive been a big fan of 40 k Lore for years, but only recently got into painting and playing - I was sucked in by the Black Templars. They are pretty bad ass. I have Hellbrecht and hes an amazing mini.
I really wish I hadnt been the victim of "FOMO." I bought the army box at full price when it first came out and skipped the combat patrol. Sigh.
The second pistol optic would be if one was magnified and one unmagnified. The magnified optic would be on top, and the 1x optic offset.
I've only seen this on rifles, not on handguns.
Anyway, carry on.
Space marines tend to make their pistols big enough to be stock-less rifles so I think I can let that slide in the 41st millennium, but otherwise I agree. I will say I’ve seen backup irons in case the battery dies/unit dies but then they tend to be inline with the red dot not offset
@@timunderbakke8756 Yeah, the classic bolter is a big stockless rifle. Who needs a stock when you have power armor? Same for plasma pistols, I guess.
The one thing I really like about the space marines is how absolutely over the top they are, just gonzo crazy. Every rifle is a grenade launcher. Jetpacks with engines the size of small cars.
And still their APCs are so small they'd only fit about two guys in the back (looking at you, rhino).
You are incredibly correct about the army box. There’s 3 rotting on the shelf at my friendly local game store. They’ve been there for possibly a year now.
Tell them they should price match it with Amazon regardless of what GW states. Because $97-99 for that thing was 100% worth it. Those would be gone in no time if they did.
@@84jesterx fun fact, you can void your contract with games workshop if you undercut their prices without permission from your regional rep - at which point they refuse to deal with your business again. My ex partner used to own a hobby store.
Real guns dont have 2 scopes for battery insurance but for different magnification so you can use it at different ranges
"lobotomized fella carrying a chunk of castle" I would expect nothing less from a 40k mini
Jay, love the passion that you have for this faction and model range but please start pronouncing the "S" at the end of Black Templars :D
Thank you for this video. I've just gotten into the hobby, and chosen Black Templars as my Army (as I like the colour scheme). But for a while I've been questioning whether or not that was the right decision, but after watching this video of pure appreciation for the Templars, its made me appreciate them more, and be happier with my choice.
That's it ! I had enough of this ! I'm starting a Black Templar Army right now! GIVE ME SOME SWORDS, BROTHEEEEEERS !!!!
Just now getting in to trying my hand at 40k after getting caught up and interested in the lore. Funnily enough after research and videos I chose Black Templars and have a combat squad on the way -- Enjoying all the good info, looking forward to digging through more as I figure all this out.
Have you looked at Archie’s Forge? He makes some amazing 3D printed bits. His Templar bits are badass! All high quality prints, come cleaned and ready to go. I highly suggest all Templar fans go check it out.
Thanks Archie
im literally building my Black Templar Amy Set, got Primaris Crusader Squad, Helbrect, Out Riders and a BT Apothecary
Love me some Black Templars, even have the new box set and a bunch of firstborn, but painting black power armor over and over and over is a special kind of torture...
>Reviews all Black Templar minis
>Doesn't mention Draco
I want a refund
I really should get this set . I'm a Dark Amgels player but I've always felt like Black Templars stole a lot of our thunder when Dark Angels lost their black power armour and became green . The Deathwing still had their bone colour armour tho but I've always felt like Black Templars were Dark Angels by another name. Basically when payday comes I'm getting these suckas . 😁😀🤗🤩😈👿👽
Black TemplarS... It bothers me that you drop the "s".
Agreed. A single member of the Black Templars is a Black Templar, but the entire legion/chapter are the Black Templars.
Read this as "femboy reviews all black templar models"
I am immensely disapointed
Always loved the look of Black Templars… I’ve had a mostly compete, but I assembled backlog of them for quite a while… it’s a shame I will likely never really use the models I have, because these Primaris versions are so much better! This new scale just feels so much better, and I’m starting to wonder what I will do with all my old Space Marines… luckily most of mine were Chaos, which have always been larger, and have only been getting better with each new release.
Honestly if it contains to codex, that army box for less than $100 is an amazing starting point for a new player to the army.
It does contain the Templar specific codex. You still need to source the rules for the standard space marine units (and other generic marine rules they can use). It’s a super solid deal. I bought a second army box at that price because it was still cheaper than the redemptor and crusaders I wanted.
So I do have a new in shrink codex Templar available for someone at some point.
"The worst of the good guy's"? What about the Minotaurs? 😃
I collected dark angels as a kid because I couldn't stand the freaky little poodle legs
The marshal has a normal shoulder pad and a cataphractii terminator shoulder pad
I'm ngl the black templars look badass as hell
I enjoyed this video a lot. I'm not a templar player myself but I have fond memories of these old metal templar models from back in the day so it's very nostalgic to see these reimagined.
8:30 I love the guy carrying the large stone bit, I'm guessing they were taking inspiration from the story of Jesus' crucifixion from the Bible; the way the piece is shaped looks somewhat like a cross, and the way he is carrying it seems akin to how Simon carried Jesus' cross, it looks similar to how that scene is usually drawn
Hey Jay hey Nick! I'm a huge fan of your channel 👍 I got a wish, it would be nice if you guys could some day do an episode about the working place: which chair/table do you use (to avoid backpain?), What kind of light, but also tue equipment etc. Just a little look behind the scenes :) would appreciate it a lot:)
Sometimes it's just neat that we get the same models but better, I do prefer that new Grimaldus retinue - also that the banner still had the two rolls of toilet paper on the sides!
Now if I could get newer versions of the Necron finecast HQs and C'tan, I'd be just dandy.
I have an emperors champion and it is so cool
I just got some 5 templars second hand and unbuilt at my local game shop the other day. First minis I'm ever gluing together so should be weird to experiment with them. Thanks for sharing!
When I bought the army set, GW sent me an extra box by mistake. I haven't opened it yet.
Damn.. a rare case of GW actually being generous lol
If/When Rogal Dorn comes back in the lore and Gathers all the Imperial Fists successors back into one Legion with the Last Wall Protocol, he's gonna have 2 Legions worth of dudes thanks to The Templars.
I'm glad you explained the Emperor's Champion lore. Its great lore and makes me want to field one now. A guy drunk on being the chosen one to extol the emperor's wrath is so amusing i must do it.
i remember the forgeworld black templar dreadnoughts was sick af and was one of the reasons why it was my first army but i never had money to buy them. Was quite sad when they were removed from the catalogue.
My entire space marine side of the Dark Imperium is unpainted because I can't pick a chapter. Starting to lean more towards Dark Angels. =)
The new Black Templars are just beautiful, and that upgrade/relic sprue is fascinating. I’m really hoping the Space Wolves get that same doodad treatment.
Since i just kitbashed a squad of sanguinary guard and death company marines i expect the Blood Angels refresh to drop next month
I really hope DA get the same treatment as BT during next edition like rumors say. Maybe even some BA? Becauae BT is the best looking chapter at the moment.
I wish gw had more legion specific models cus I mean salamanders just had a kit and then 2 models basically I would love if outta nowhere we got some primaris fire drakes or pyroclast and then maybe it could be legion specific or not but the sheild bois for imperial fist would be cool
The Black Templar Army set on Ebay for $98 is the best way to start a Black Templar army, Bought 2 boxes, painted up the extra Emperors Champion and Marshal and resold them back onto ebay to get my money back for one of the boxes.
Man, when I was choosing which chapter I wanted it was between Templars and Dangles... I chose Dangles, but I can totally see all of the unique Templar models being a lender into the Dangles. I already bought Grimaldus for painting challenge, so that's a start.
They are all gorgeous models, shame they don't have a vehicle, but maybe that's part of the lore? I dunno, I'm a Dangles guy I dunno Templars lore... aren't they a 'fleet' 'chapter'?
They are a successor chapter of the Imperial Fists legion and chapter, but they are obsessed with melee combat and unyielding faith in the Emperor of Man as a literal true God.
I don't know that much about Imperial minis but isn't there a Repulsor (?) tank in the BT combat patrol?
Edit: yeah it's in the video too
@@agollumcalledgandalf Oh thanks, yeah... I s'pose I should have been more specific and said I'd love some really unique or wacky vehicle... like the unique speeders for Dangles.
“A lot of talk online wether the castellan is primaris or not… The answer is, IT DOESN’T MATTER ” 😂👏
With the kit version old 8th legs champion in a war suit redemptor????the armour was test development that worked from the secret 9th armour troop division most are single or body Gard's sets two types since not mains produced allows other versions you made for kit bash list??????.😃😄😁😆😅 5 Smile's. Wasn't it power fist 👊 with added claw damage on W plus one and S or AP ??on the combat patrol with redemptor in kill team?? twenty man rule redemptor is 8 units???.
“I am a black Templar fan”
Proceeds to get almost everything wrong about their lore other then being on a eternal crusade.
8:24 It would NEVER be a heritic, such a vile creature would NEVER accompany the Knights of Dorn into battle ! ! !
For the off sides optics on a weapon - generally that’s for changing the length of the shot. A magnified optic isn’t helpful in close quarters. Idk about the 40K equivalents tho. 🤷♂️
Hello Eon and all you guys, i just did a 1000 miles round trip to buy my first warhammer box and i also bought all the paint and accessories😅 lets say it was an expensive trip but i wanted to buy my first box in person! Im asking what are the best warhammer 40k about black templar? I really want to read them all! Thank you for sharing the name of the books you liked! Eon i love your channel keep it up!
EOB: it's good that Kitbashing isn't official policy for my marines
Me: Crying with my 8e Imperial Guard codex
I like Space Marines with unique flavour...I ended up with Leviathan leftovers when my son wanted the nids. I have Space Wolves from many years of collecting, & as it is all smaller, I decided to embrace Black Templars for all the new models.
Irk a ma gurk durk
The thing about new Emperor’s Champion is that, in my opinion, he looks as if he just got out of a dancing movie from the early 2000s, like Step Up or something. I mean, armour wise anyway, those leg greaves looks like those baggy sweatpants worn by dancers and the chest piece has a crop top feel to it. And that tabard/cloth makes it look like there’s no armour in between the armoured legs and a crop topped chest 😂
In regards to the "not enough fat people" thing, isn't that because space marines, as part of the regular genetic engineering that goes into making them, would essentially be humans with peak metabolism and other biological features to keep them muscly and fit so long as they haven't been starved for long enough? I'd actually find it REALLY weird for their bodies to not constantly keep their engineered target equilibrium outside of exceptionally extreme circumstances.
Space marine armour is basically American football Padding on top with Cricket pads for the legs. Check out Dangermouse if you want to know the true origins of the white scars. He's the OG British Beaky
I’m doing a 30k imperial fist army and a 40K black Templar army but painting them black and a few yellow pieces so I can run as fists or Templars except the chapter specific models of course. :)
Jay if you think your loved Space marine faction has small CHARAKTERS pls do not look into Cpt. Arvann Stern because he is as big as a guardsman in his terminator armour (poor inner cry's of despair) and for me it does not really matter if they are ill matched with their knees because most charakter look badass and even more so most of the newer ones castellan garan crowe for example and boi did he grow. Btw the castellan looks amazing.
About one thing I am not sure why are they chaining themselves to their weapons I mean do they fear to loose em or are they so badass that they would throw away their weapons in the heat of the moment so I'm asking truthfully why?
I just pulled the trigger on 3 teams of Imperial Nobility and gonna convert my first Battalion of Astra Militarum. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it, I think.
The reason they get away with defying the codex is for a number of reasons. 1, their insane devotion and close ties to the ecclesiarchy make justifying any action against them difficult. 2, they operate in the furthest wildest reaches of space where Imperial law doesn't hold much sway to begin with. 3, they are so decentralised that they can't really be regarded as a single power, each crusade is essentially it's own sovereign entity so any threat they might pose is mitigated by that, they've effectively divided themselves up into chapters anyway. 4, if you did insist on starting shit with them for the sake of arbitrary enforcement you risk creating a threat where none existed before, trying to enforce the codex might be exactly the unifying threat that could turn the Black Templars ire squarely on you. 5, they're doing stuff that furthers the Imperium's interests while asking for nothing in return except to be left to do their own thing. 6, Roboute Guilliman knows all of this, he's in charge and he isn't a wasteful idiot who would commit huge forces on an ultimately costly and difficult task with no strategic benefit when leaving them alone is more beneficial.
Maybe one day there would be some kind of reckoning but not while the Imperium is in such perpetual peril from other forces.
I've purchased four army boxes at current prices, but I'd never pay $200 for it. I've sold or given away some of the extra stuff (sorry, don't need five codexes!) to make up for it.
The black templars can read, even if helbrecht doesnt want them to, they follow the codex astartes otherwise theyd end up like the astral claws ;) Plus the codex astartes was praised by grimaldus themselves. Also why do u always say nachos maker when talking about marco frisoni?!
Jay, wasn't Sigismund called the first Captain? If anyone would know u would... was his title changed. I noticed that the old emps champ didn't have a chained weapon.
I'm an Age of Sigmar player, but now I kinda want these Black Templars minis..... My wallet's not gonna be happy
The older Emperors champion sword was massive. About the full length of the Marine. Really my only complaint about the new one.
Space marines have company champions, the black templars have Emperor's Champion. Which is the same, but absolutely more badass!
I don’t think it’s probably the same size I would imagine it’s quite a bit bigger. I’m looking at my old school librarian vs new primaris marine and just from the bases the size is easily noticeable! I wonder what makes him say that as such a long timer how would they be the same?
The Black Templar Marshals: "...One of them dramatically smaller than the other one." So... Mini-Me?
My problem with Primaris in lore ia that they are both heresy and blasphamy.
Heresy: Crawl dared boast that he was an equal to the God Emperor.
Blasphamy: Crawl actually dared to create these Abominations by the thousands ! !
fun fact about the 2 scope shenanigans
they use both 4x scope and a holo or red dot scope
one for long and precise shot and one for closer range
Jay, I’m asking myself Hoooooowwwwwwww are your segues for your Patreon so smooth???? Thanks gents!!
No. No, Jay.
I’m not going to collect another marine army.
No.
Not happening.
Ok.
As a Dark Angels Player I’d still buy the BT Combat patrol cuz Bits and stuff and the impulsor i think it was
Dear Master; Good evening, would you share the name of the song at the beginning of your videos? Thank you very much. . .
You're clearly not up on a lot of the lore...he's not carrying a "chunk of castle, because the other space marines think it's so cool" those are relics from Hellsreach. You love templars ..but don't know Hellsreach lore?!
I do think the castellan is firstborn, despite what GW says. He’s got the greaves and studs to match MKVI armour
I wish helbreckt had a better model, like a more battle engaged version rather than the posy one.
I know the primaris reception has not been 100% positive, as a new hobbyist and painter I’m super down for the larger models to make painting these super ornate, detailed models that tiny bit more doable.
I believe it is already been said, but they do indeed follow the codex, but thanks to a tecnicism, they can have a large number of marines, because the codex stats that during a crusade, the limitation doesn't apply, and since it's founding, the dark templars have been on an eternal crusade
the marshall is my favorite of the new models, some of the bt model poses disappointed me, like grimauldus gets out chaplained by the indomitus chaplain pose imo, and the judiciar gives the champion a run for his money.
The other day I scored the black Templar army box for 97 bucks on Amazon. I would recommend that if you want to get a bunch of those models
I was lucky, I came across the BT army box on sale at 40% off. Then grabbbed the combat patrol at a discount as well.
I have the Black Templar Army set am I better to get a second set to get to a 1000pts or should I buy the Black Templar Combat Patrol box to add to my army
Suicide is painless, it only affects the nameless. I'm sorry.
24:48 The army box was both awsome and crushing disappointment in equal measure.
Every chapter has company champions and a single chapter champion but only the black templars have emperor's champions
Stunning figures, my only issue is helbrecht , he has to show up on any battle field with his sword stuck in an ork..... really hate that on any figure.
If there’s only 10 Black swords I’d assume they would all be unique and different and that’s why they didn’t just use the old one
It makes me laugh imagining a Space Marine Rino Driver having the vision and been given this sacred sword, for him to land on the battle field and be useless with it.
Watched you for a while before learning you were a BT boi...same dude. By far the best faction in WH.
pretty sure the "gas mask" is just the bottom half of the helmet, some of the marine models imply that space marine helmets are removed in two parts, the top half covering the scalp, and the front half covering the face
What has me seething is how they didn't give Dark Angels Hoods and tabards and powerpacks with candles on them.
The space marines aren’t wearing gas masks they are wearing the lower part of the space marine helmet. Why they do this I don’t know but it looks cool
