Part of the heart of the problem is pure laziness. It's too hard to observe, and the person may not engage in any activity that allows you to run their license, so instead, they just lust after ID in the hopes that they can arrest someone, because that's so much easier than actually having to do any real work.
I had a border patrol agent do something similar to me out in Southern Arizona on a two-lane blacktop. I am a former police officer, for the USAF, and we were taught to investigate first, before contact. If you see something suspicious, you observe, unless that incident is happening in a restricted area, where you have to display your RAB at all times, and you lose all your rights within that area. But in base housing, the US Constitution still applies, so we had to have probable cause to stop somebody! If I saw a suspicious activity, would call it in, observe, run the tag and then either contact if probably cause allowed it, or go on without any contact!
Yeah but everyone knows that the both the training and expectations of civilan police is dismal! I would immediately be more comfortable if general soldiers replaced police tomorrow and it's not like they have the appropriate training either but we both train them well and expect them to perform their jobs correctly or there's consequences even if sometimes those consequences are from each other and not formal!

This just shows how dirty this police department is from the top down clearly
“How dare you act in a legal manner and make our jobs more difficult. The fact that you are exercising your rights irritates us and makes us suspicious.”
That’s what the chief’s post boiled down to
Yep. I love how the chief states there are 2 sides to the story and supports his cops, while admitting the victim did nothing wrong and showing how they despise when someone flexes their rights. He's too dumb and corrupt to realize that just strengthened the driver's side of it.
@chuck 8094 Right? One would think the police would be thrilled we had studied in school!!! But noOOOoo. They are jackbooted brownshirt fascist pigs until proven otherwise, just as to them we are all just criminals who haven't been caught.
"and while you are at it please confess to whatever crime we feel like charging you with"
Just because you have the rights doesnt mean you should actively seek out these confrontations. These losers seeking out police should get a facking job, instead of bothering the ones who do have a job. Acting all smart cause you memorized a few laws lmao.
Its all a bunch of insecure males who doesnt have the balls to act out in their everyday life, so they seek out the police who are there to protect u, cause they cant do anything about it.

IKR‽ I always get nervous when people confront cops because if they're dirty enough to violate rights and abuse their power, they very well might be dirty enough to eliminate witnesses and evidence. 😬 (Of course, that's probably not the case with these videos, otherwise we wouldn't be seeing them, but there's always a chance.)

I have NEVER laughed harder when listening to Jame's phone convo, "...I'm just going going to send some dolls and pacifiers anyway, they're quite soothing to babies." I was LITERALLY slapping my knee while laughing 😂. Camera phones have their uses and in this instance I hope that Braxton pursues this. These officers need training.
I just wish he was saying it to the pig.
These officers need decertification. Training only helps if you are open to improving. Did you hear the chief and also the female officer in the call. For them it's about defending those officers and changing the publics mind, not correcting officers commiting a felony.
congratulations young man on such an extraordinary command of your emotions. I'm nobody just some random lady but I'm so proud that there are still young men like you know how to conduct themselves in a dangerous situation. I'm so glad you're okay.
@Lady, you're NOT "Just some random Lady!" You have Morals and Ethics, you know the difference between right and wrong, you have probably seen the way that Cops abuse their powers, but most of all, you give credit where credit is due!! If everyone could do what this young man did... It would make the Cops job so much harder and my answer to that is, they brought it upon themselves!!!
He did do a great job, towards the end you can really hear the emotions in his voice, but he kept his composure.
This police chief needs to be fired along with the officers that violated this young man's rights.
I was impressed as well.

How in hell is his driver license going to tell them why he's there and what he may or may not be planning? This is something that rarely, if ever, gets asked even by 1A auditors. If they have to admit it's just to check for outstanding warrants, then it's just a fishing expedition, and I would think look really bad for them on a 1983 civil rights lawsuit.
There are several reasons officers need ID...They obtain their ID/information to document who they spoke with in the event additional crimes occur in the area so they'll have a starting point. They also need to document details of the interaction. It's more than just "checking for warrants".
@@TheWeightsOver clearly you dont care about rights. he didn't need to give up his id.

So if a crime occurs 5 nights later, "in the same area?" (Within 100 yrds, 500 yrds, 1,000 yrds, within a mile, 2 miles, 3 mile radius?) they can blame it on the guy they contacted while minding his own business and not breaking laws.

@@TheWeightsOver Wrong, first and foremost, they are checking for warrants. They can just enter "John/Jane Doe" in their report or put "NA". As for "future crime" in the area, that too is BS and considered prior restraint.

These Officers Should Be Only Allowed To Work At Fast Food Resturants
Work is not in their vocabulary...
Cops would probably spit on the food if customer treats them like equals.
Should have asked for an articulated crime before surrendering ID.
Inquiring about RAS is always good, but due to the Driver technically operating his vehicle, he is required to surrender his ID when asked
You can ask, but they aren't lawfully obligated to tell us...which I think is total BS. Also, they didn't pull him over, so he was under no obligation to give them anything as it wasn't a traffic stop.
It is BS. It's horrible because it gives LEOs more time to come up with one if there was never RAS in the first place.
Although they didn't state it was a traffic stop, the LEOs proceeded as though it was one. And I assume they would have ripped him out of his car if he didn't provide ID due to them treating it like a traffic stop

Just started watching this channel after burning through all of Audit The Audit videos, I’m a huge fan. I’ve gone through about 100 or so here and this has to be one of my top 5. When he gave the ID back you’d think that he’d be big enough to admit he was wrong, or apologize in some way. Instead he walked away with his tail between his legs. And James Freeman’s phone call was fantastic.

And in championing his officers, did this chief speak on how unprofessional it was, for his officer to act like a child, and not identify himself, or that they had no probable cause to stop him or ID him?
I hope this young man is successful suing this department because the last time I checked it isn't AGAINST THE LAW IN AMERICA to sit in your vehicle outside of your home at midnight...SMFH
People who get stopped always seem to forget that they don't have to answer ANYTHING!
Part of the heart of the problem is pure laziness. It's too hard to observe, and the person may not engage in any activity that allows you to run their license, so instead, they just lust after ID in the hopes that they can arrest someone, because that's so much easier than actually having to do any real work.
