This is way many cops cannot be trusted with ensuring they are doing their jobs right. If cops are doing their jobs right, they will not fear being recorded because they are following the law. However, a cop that denies a person from recording a stop is likely a cop that is not following the law, and most importantly, a cop that is corrupt and violating the law. This is why the law must protect citizens from unreasonable stops. Cops are given certain rights to be officers of the law.
This no doubt has to be one reason why we trust officers doing their jobs right. However, if a cop abuses his or her lawful rights, they must be stripped of all official duty and capacity to be public servants... if cops cannot maintain trust with their sworn duties to uphold the law, they should not be allowed to serve the public by issuing stops, detainments, or warrants or arrests... they must be held to the same criteria without immunity.

    • @iloveallthepeople

People become so sure they know the motivation behind behaviors. You both sound *exactly* like an officer who is sure the only explanation for mountain dew is just for stoners to cure cottonmouth and therefore justified the cavity search. Had you paid attention, you would have heard that $450 and the wallet that contained it was likely stolen, because it was there prior to the search and missing after that.
They also developed a method of retaliation based on the shame of the woman, except only one officer seems to contribute to that idea. So it's conceivable that they were going to try to brainstorm methods of retaliation that would effect each of the individuals. This is supported by the heads up concerning the live feed, as it's not unethical for an officer to announce they discovered drugs and doesn't require any audio beyond that. But if they were planning on conspiring retaliation, that camera would need to be in the other officer's awareness.
There's always a chance of unrelated matters being discussed, as well. Perhaps the two were commiting adultery, running a bookie, maybe they share stories about a love for their dogs that goes too far. Maybe they were going to announce half the drugs they expected to find, while confiscating the other half for their own recreational use. Maybe they had some private business that was not inculpatory, such as the loss of a recent loved one or the financial distress in their home or some illness.
Whatever the explanation, try to be less hypocritical

Unlike sheriff's offices, which are mandated by state laws, police departments operate at the sole discretion of the towns and cities that create and fund them.
The taxpayers have every right and authority to disband police departments without any reason whatsoever. So, when these pig scumbags cost the taxpayers enough in lawsuits to get the attention of the people who employ them, you better believe those same taxpayers have the means to put a stop to it.
