I just love the way you started dancing doing that rumba song it was so cute whoever is married to you is very lucky
Jim carry kills me of dying into laughing🤣🤣🤣🤣
Please watch Sherlock BBC
You should check out the number 23
I dare you to read the comic it is.... sooo different from the movie.
The comic this is based on is actually a comedic horror. They dialled down the gore for this and more so in the cartoon series.
they REEEEALLY dialled it down
@@YeOldeLord how evil is it
@@straightuphating1013
Well you know that cop scene where they all surround him? He blows them all away and basically paints the streets red with their gore, laughing all the way.
Stanley also dies at the end.
The mechanics die as well
I mean Jim Carrey is crazy enough as it is but the mask intensifies the maniac to a whole different fun level
Are you sure he was wearing a mask? I mean, the guy already has a rubber face.
@@keithmays8076 you make a good point
@@Pifla Absolute facts
Nothing crazy about Jim Carrey… just overwhelming talent
imagine a current MASK w/o comedy, I'd think that be interesting
The best thing about the Mask is that he’s hilarious, but also genuinely kinda eerie. Not the kinda guy you’d wanna be in a room alone with.
Depending on who's wearing the mask
Some women would say otherwise lol. They LOVE us funny but eerie guys. We slang the best hammer
I had bipolar when I was younger and recognized the manic phase of that character. I could so relate to it.
Basically a character on Crack.. and that's a crazy kind of person to be around
I think deadpool would have fun with the mask
You compared Jim Carrey’s Mask to Robin Williams’ Genie, that just melted my heart ❤️❤️
Yeah, it’s so sad 😞 a lot of similarities between Jim and Robins life on film, it’s nice to know it affected someone else’s heart as well, R.I.P Robin
Would have loved to see Jim and Robin in a movie together.
@@DarkPaladin24 that would have been legendary to see them play off each other. Rip
If there was no Robin, Jim Carrey would have rocked as the Genie.
@@SurvivorBri Agreed.
Fun fact: The Mask is based on a comic book that is way, WAAAAAAAY darker than the movie, some seriously dark stuff happens in that first comic, the film makers decided against making a dark serious story and opted for a lighthearted comedy instead.
How exactly is the comic book even that dark with some serious dark stuff that’s in it? Do tell
@@emmanuelharris6445 well there's gore, domestic violence, abuse, references to addiction and overall mayhem and psycosis all around
@@emmanuelharris6445remember that scene where the cops surround him in the film? yeah that happens in the comic books but he literally paints the street red with their blood. All while laughing
The Mask is actually a rated R character, he's insanely psychotic and violent but was watered down for the movie. He is a cartoon in the real world, his powers are Toon Force which is arguably the top power there is. He can alter reality to whatever he wants as long as he finds it funny. Toon Force is also what Bugs Bunny and such have. Basically to the Mask, the world is a cartoon but he's the writer and animator lol.
More soft disclosure.....
Apparently, Jim Carrey took a lot of inspiration from his father when playing Stanley Ipkiss. He wanted to make him legitimately entertaining, so that people wouldn't say 'just get to the Mask already!'
Spot on with the cartoon analogy. One of the mask's powers is literally called toon force, and it amounts to being able to do anything as long as the user finds it humorous in nature. The laws of physics, death, innocent bystanders and nearby objects are at the whim of the wielder... But... if it's humorous, hence the need to make everything a bit, skit, sketch, parody, or performance.
At least this version, i have no knowledge of the darker versions of the mask the other commenters talk about.
I remember seeing this in theaters with my Mom. Still so much fun! Hahah. Glad you watched
This is my favorite Jim Carrey movie of all time. I’ve seen this WAY too much. I wouldn’t recommend watching the sequel though 😬
Lol right. Avoid the sequel at all costs…even Jamie Kennedy said to avoid it 😂😂
Definitely agree there man that sequel was pure garbage and an absolute flop in my opinion they could've done a whole lot better
Son of the Mask was a good kids movie. I definitely enjoyed it as a kid.
Jim Carrey and Robin Williams are in that same manic style. Robin Williams might have pulled this off but Jim Carrey has that rubbery physical cartoon style that is better suited for this movie.
@@Galiant2010 I would recommend that she should watch the sequel, only because their version of Loki is in it (and Odin).
Fun Fact: This is Cameron Diaz first movie in her entire life.
Yup...and what an impact she made on this 13 year old who saw her.....and definitely on another 13 year old named Justin.
We can tell that by the Introducing Cameron Diaz credit. 😂 But still, what a first. 😍😍😍💚💚💚
I was never into blondes but when she walked in through those doors, my jaw needed a crane to lift it off the floor. Especially those eyes🥴...made me turn into royal jelly.
Yeah, she mentioned that a couple of times.
depends of what you define as a movie, she did several n0de movies before this
I'd love to see your reactions to the Charlie's Angels movies with Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. They're not masterpiece theater but they are great action movies and a product of their time.
They're masterpieces compared to the most recent one.
Worth it just for Sam Rockwell.
A great Jim Carey movie is The Truman Show. It's the first movie that showed that Jim Carey could be a dramatic and emotional actor. There's still humor in it, so it's a perfect showcase for just how talented Jim is as a whole actor, not just a comedic one.
Yes… Truman Show is his most beloved dramatic movie to date! And one of the most beloved movies in general of all time
I hope she sees this comment and watches Truman Show. Great writing and great performance by Jim.
@@alyas77 you know what’s interesting? The role in Truman Show was written specially for Jim. The movie was literally put on hold until he was available to do the movie
@@alyas77 but that doesn’t mean that other actors weren’t considered… Gary Oldman was considered, which would’ve been interesting because he’s such an incredible actor
I remember all the critics said before Truman Show came out that Jim Carrey would never be able to play the role as he's a comedian. Then when the movie was released, they were forced to recognize his talent.
Two of my favorite scenes in this movie were the swing dancing and "Cuban Pete" scenes. Also, The Mask was Cameron Diaz's movie debut.
… and unfortunately this movie was the only one that she looked good in. After the Mask she NEVER looked that hot ever again
I'm so glad you finally watched and reacted to The Mask!
The best thing is that, beside the special effects, all other Mask movements and expressions were just Jim Carrey with that mask with big teeth, what an actor.
It's kind of hilarious how all of the other characters are taking the revelation of the existence of magic really REALLY well.
Well, it's easier to accept when you see it with your own eyes. ;)
@@Trifler500 and of course they were facing death so seeing that was the least of their worries since it also saved their lives
@@bigjoeofthe707 Mmm... Depends on the scene, but in some of them, for sure. :)
Oh my gosh, I never even thought of that. 😂
They live in the Dark Horse / Marvel Universe, my guess is that they had seen a few things in their lifetime already…
Cameron Diaz in this movie was my childhood crush for many years.
No wonder. She looked amazing here.
i swear Mary´s laugh cures my depression. So good seeing you liked one of my childhood favorite
The fact that he understood at the end that he didn't really need the mask is one of those typical messages that were often conveyed in older films, and that's what I liked most about this film.
If you liked "The Mask", I would suggest "Bruce Almighty", also a movie where Jim Carrey has superpowers and where, besides all the good humor, an important message is conveyed.
When this film came out, they released Jim Carrey's Cuban Pete as a single. I still sing it at karaoke sometimes :)
this movie gave me rock-hard abs at age 6, from all the laughter.
just imagine The Mask, Genie, Joker, Deadpool and Loki in the same room..... sanity would just "nope!" out the window.
As someone who was 6 when it came out, The Mask was essentially my only direct experience of the 90s swing revival. In retrospect it was the pinnacle of it.
the comic book is much more darker and has some serious horror in it. This is still one of my fave Jim Carrey films ever. One of the first VHS I ever owned. This is getting appaereantly remake that will go closer to the comics darker tones.
Keanu Reeves, Steve Martin, Rick, Moranis, Mike Myers, John Ritter, Robin Williams, Nicolas Cage, Matthew Broderick and Will Ferrell were considered for Stanley Ipkiss.
Anna Nicole Smith, Vanessa Williams, Jennifer Connelly, Paige French, Jeri Ryan, Kelly Rutherford, and Tia Carrare were considered for Tina
Warren Beatty, Richard Gere, Tim Allen, John Heard, and Pierce Brosnan were considered for Lt. Mitch Kellaway.
Jack Nicholson, Willem Dafoe, Dennis Hopper, Robert DeNiro and Rupert Everett were considered for Dorian
Phydeaux was considered for the part of Milo, but they were against casting a French poodle (too white).
I already have a slight fear of Jack Nicholson because of his Joker, i cant imagine how creeped out i woulda been by a Jack version of Dorian
How do you know all of this information?
@@metalmanny666 probably behind the scenes stuff from dvd or Blu-ray where they talk about casting and stuff
Jennifer Connelly or Tia Carrare would have been interesting
Omg my favorite Jim Carrey movie
The transformation is incredible
29:00 “That’s a SPICY MEAT-A-BALL!”
… Italians in a nutshell..
Well, as long as they breathe fire before they say it, I will accept that. :)
I'm glad that you liked this. It's one of my favorites among his movies. I'll always appreciate that Jim Carrey sided with a friend of mine against the director while working on the second Ace Ventura film a year after this movie.
My favorite Jim Carrey movie. The best thing I love about the actual mask is that even though its enchanted by Loki it can't make you anything you are not. The mask releases your inhibitions and brings out you inner most personality and desires to life "The id" and ofcourse the more he wore the mask the more his true self came out.
I love the message the movie brings, which is very psychological. It's not enough to just be a nice guy, you have to find your inner desire, and bring it to life. Find you polar opposite and tame it. Stanley slowly adapted though that to the point where he wasn't a pushover, and didn't need the mask anymore. It's seen again in Milo, where he is normaly a loving dog, but put the mask and he becomes visious, but still loyal.
Stanley had to realize that the Mask brought out his inner traits. He never needed the Mask because this was who he was deep down without the inhibitions. It wasn't until he finally accepted that that the Mask allowed him to let it go.
Anybody notice that "The Nutty Professor" "The Mask" and "Fight Club" are essentially the same movie?
🤔
15:15 What is '90s about her makeup? I was 18 when this movie came out, and her makeup doesn't look dated to me.
Nowadays prolly wide eyebrows, brown-red blusher, brown face primer and glassy pink lipstick
A Loki variant the TVA doesn’t want to deal with
Now I want to see The Mask encounter the MCU Loki.
@@jalenellis3594 or MCU Loki wearing the Mask?
This movie is so Looney Tunes serious you love it. You should totally do Charlie’s Angels it’s super fun 😸😸😸
Yes but not the remake/reboot
It is actually a Tex Avery style.
Milo was a great actor in this one! 😉
Cameron Diaz's first shot in a film has got to be one of the most amazing debuts. From the very first frame, she's a star.
I thought the club scenes were enormously entertaining. This movie helped bring back swing music for a time. As incredible as Carrey was, his dog Milo stole every scene.
This was the first time I heard about Loki and it got me interested in mythology. I love this movie, I rented it from the video store several times when I was a kid.
Same here ^^
Well their version of Loki appeared in the sequel.
@@justinbryan6249 There is no sequel, imo.
The mask and Ace Ventura were arguably Jim Carrey in his prime but my personal favorite movie is Me Myself and Irene. (Not a kids movie lol)
Uh… no Jim Carrey movie is for kids!
Me, Myself and Irene was an incredibly underrated movie. It’s a crime how much that movie flew under the radar
Loki is also in the sequel; Son of the Mask played by Allen Cunning (Nightcrawler from X-Men 2), but the film isn’t that good so watch it with a grain or heap of salt.
No, it must not be watched at all. We don't speak of it.
LOOK MA, I’M ROADKILL 😂😂
This movie’s popularity was big in the 90’s. It even had a cartoon show and a truly horrifying sequel.
Horrifying cos it was scary…or horrifying in how absolutely terrible it was?
@@trayolphia5756 Yes.
@@BatmanFan76 ahhh, the ever wonderful “answer a multitude choice question with a yes/no answer”
Normally the appropriate reply is to say “yes to which”…but I’m gonna venture a guess you chose the three letter reply YES, over the four letter reply BOTH? Lol
This was the perfect vehicle for Carrey, it just allowed him to kick off all the restraints roles normally apply. This movie along with The Truman Show are probably the best work he's ever done.
To me, this movie is the 'birthplace' of Jim Carrey. 😁 (and Cameron Diaz, too, yes)
The comic it’s based on was a violent horror/noir series where The Mask continually trades hands, each person becoming more monstrous and violent than the last. For the Jim Carrey film, they did a total 180° and decided to make it a live action cartoon along the lines of the work of Tex Avery and Bob Clampett.
Your parents didn't let you watch a PG film... come on now
*The Mask and Ace Ventura* films both had cartoons series that had 2 crossovers, basically Jim Carry meeting himself.
Also Dumb and Dumber
@Ghost Spider it’s just a cartoon! He really didn’t “meet himself” 🙄
@@nsasupporter7557 I know, but when picturing the crossover as a live action, you can’t help but see them both with Jim’s face.
I love The Mask. It's my favourite Jim Carrey film. You should also watch the animated series with Rob Paulsen. It's awesome as well. Just skip Son Of The Mask. That movie was an abomination.
Fun fact about the teeth they are real molds that he had to wear and original they didn't think he would be able to talk so they were gonna have him dub it over with him but Jim took an extra pair home and practiced until he could speak properly with them
in the comics the mask is a psychopath, but in the movie they wanted to make it more family friendly and less gore/blood
I saws this movie with my dad in theaters when it came out. The audience cheered when Milo finally made the jump when Stanley was in jail and when Milo caught the mask when it was flying.
One Of Jim Carrey's Best Performances, Cool Reaction As Always Mary, Take Care Beautiful 🥰
The Mask. The most overpowered superhero or villain of all. Magical, cartoon physics, could turn dying into a joke and come back to life.
In the 90's cartoon, when i was a lil' kid... Milo would always save the day by bringing Stanley the Mask
This is one of my favourite comical comedy films. It's so over the top which is why it's so good
"They call me Cuban Pete, I'm the king of the rumba beat. When I play the maracas, I got chick chicky boom" lol
Her first movie of course before shrek
"P-A-R-T-Why? Because I gotta!"
The Mask channeling Max Headroom right there. :-)
It's not Loki himself in the mask, it's his influence/power. The person remain themselves but their inner self enhanced 1000% (Ipskin loving cartoon and wanting to finqlly ne respected and admired, Dorian being evil and wanting to be feared, Milo probably wanting to be taken more seriously as a little dog etc)
I saw this in theaters back in the day, I remember making a mask out of my popcorn bucket after watching it haha. Also I use the " That's a spicy meat-a-ball" line way too often haha. I would be down for Charlie's angels!
22:02 So, clearly Mary loves the Dad Jokes, and I'm (as the Young'uns say) here for it. 👍
Side Note: Do the Young'uns still say that? It is difficult for us decrepit old Gen-X'ers to keep up with these things. 🤔😉
An early film of Jim Carrey's is the 1988 _Earth Girls Are Easy._ It stars Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis with support from Carrey, Damon Wayans, Julie Brown, and Charles Rocket. It's a perfect Summer Sci-Fi, and as it's still Summer here in the North it'd be perfect for your US & UK fans.
Also, a delightful romcom with Peter Riegert (Lt. Kellaway) is the 1988 _Crossing Delancey._ It stars Amy Irving (who was the singing voice of Jessica Rabbit) and Riegert.
I loved seeing Jim Carrey in Earth Girls Are Easy! I hope she reacts to it eventually!
SMOKIN!
Fun fact they made those big o teeth for one small stunt...but when they realized Jim could talk OK with em and how cool they looked...then they used them for entire movie
This movie is the reason why I was excited when Jim Carrey was cast as Dr Eggman in the sonic movie
kind of surprised you left out the bit at the ABSOLUTE end...with the companion and the dog in the water...
The mask is based off the comics but the mask comics is more darker than what they showed in this movie fun fact
Jim Carrey is always in green. The Mask, the Grinch, the Riddler ... so what's up with that?
“That’s actually really messed up”
The comic:should we tell her?…
8:34 in that moment i fell in love 🥴🥰 ur laugh is so honest, cute, lovely and i love it 🤗
The Mask is basically a persona in and of itself. Once worn, it does make the user crazy and have personality based on that person. The Mask is of course its own identity and Stanley so happens to be the perfect vessel that is the character you see. Also a baby and a dog get the mask at some point which i recommend watching for kicks 😂
The third Jim Carrey film to be released in '94 is Ace Ventura: Pet Detective. Both Ace Ventura and The Mask were made into a connected animated series. The actor playing the main villain also appeared in Pulp Fiction, released that same year. There's an unrelated sequel titled Son of the Mask, which I don't recommend watching
Green is my favorite color and this is Cameron Diaz at her best.
This has always been one of my FAVORITE Jim Carrey movies!😃😂 You should know there was also a cartoon series of this movie too afterwards.
Loki is lowkey behind everything crazy...lol
You should watch Red Dwarf because it's really good. It should make you laugh and it's also comedy gold that has happened to have Sci Fi elements. Smeghead
Saw Cameron Diaz for the fist time in this movie in 1994, very memorable, got a selfie with her in 2014
cannot beat a great classic 90s movie from time to time
I liked that his friend at the bank is a good friend and not another person taking advantage of Stans niceness
lol literally start dancing to the rumba music that was supposed to ensnare all the cops to start singing and dancing... beautiful
Keep in mind Mary this movie was in production over 25 years ago so at the time this movie and its technology used were epic.
Mask does not changes your character it just amplify it for loads of times.....And Stanly is wacky good heart person, Milo is strong wacky good hearted dog but it can bite..... Dorian basically a monster.
Does anyone else remember the cartoon. Those were the days
yeah, i also remember the comics the cartoons and the movie are based on. nothing alike, but still pretty cool.
Definitely do Charles angels
24:08 Of all the attacks on women I've seen from surveillance videos I only remember a couple where someone helped. If you are on your own dont count on someone helping. Chivalry is dead, everyone only cares about themselves nowdays.
32:04 -- So you like that film eh? Well, Meet me in Montauk Mary.... I know where the diner is that was used in the film..
Whatever you do - don't watch the sequel
I remember when I was a kid we had a Hollywood video in my neighborhood and for the long-time they had a giant poster of the mask on the wall.
Man do I miss the times of going to the video store and picking out a movie or video game.
My dad was an art director in this film
Unfortunately the sequels this were all awful.
Did you know that those teeth the mask had were only supposed to be for a couple scenes, but Jim Carrey made it work to actually talk with those teeth through the whole movie? Very impressive!
The genius of this is how we get to see Loki's playful side in Stanley, and his malevolent side in Dorian. Most of Stanley's antics are based on rhe eork of Tex Avery, who loterally broke the rules of animation to get the laughs...and boy did Tex pull it off!
Oh... you gotta watch The Number 23. It wasn't well received, but my brother and I think it's some of the best acting by Jim Carey. It certainly demonstrates his range.
Yeah, Number 23 was a huge flop. His only dramatic movies that were successful were Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Have you seen the Majestic?
@@nsasupporter7557 I have, but it was long ago. I didn't really have an issue with the film, but it wasn't my preferred genre. I'm a horror/science fiction buff, but decided to give it a go because it was directed by Frank Darabont.
If you love Jim Carrey, you should watch "Me Myself & Irene"! Jim Carrey fighting himself is one of his greatest performances.
Funny Fact: The Directors were glad to have Carrey as the mask because with him they didn't need to do Heavy CGI work with the facial expressions, just him. xD
I’ve been waiting for her to watch this Forever and her Reaction did not Disappoint 😂
Mary still has her cherry! For sure!
Mary's laughter is smokin'!
There is a sequel to “The Mask” called, “Son Of Mask which may or may not have been received as well by audiences due it not having any of the original cast returning except for Ben Stein.
What is Milo? A sports drink?
