Someone wrote in a shotgun slug discussion: Guys don't laugh at me. I use 16mm re-bar / Ybar. Cut it into 2cm pieces, then it weighs the same as a lead slug for the 12 bore. Use the same charge as for the lead slug. Shoots like a dream. The steel of the reinforcement bar does not touch the barrel. The bar and slug lie nicely in the wad. I cut the bar no longer than the wad. It costs R1 per slug in South Africa.

Unfortunately those in the Winchester equivalents are really made for small East Coast deer . If you're shooting anything big or tough they are a really poor choice . They turn into a doughnut and don't penetrate very deeply . Brobee223 has some really good videos that show you what I mean.
@@GunFunZS Maybe so for larger deer, but for a cheap home defense slug they are still worth keeping a couple of boxes around, and near your home defense shot gun.
@@CommodoreFan64 They are a bit over kill for HD unless you live in the country, but sure. I was actually thinking of HD in Alaska, where your intruder might be a bruin, or in the south where wild bacon is a problem. In both cases, these are unlikely to reach the vitals. I also saw a very sad set of pictures from someone who attempted to put down a sick young cow with a slugger. Poor cow really suffered. The slug splated on it's ribs on the left side, and somehow slid all the way around to the other side in the layer of fat just under it's skin. Must have been excruciating.
I shoot Remington slugs also.. disagree with the poor penetration, yea they expand, like they are supposed to but I've had many many pass throughs..and that's why you shoot a cow in the head!

I switched to UPK2 slugs after your review. I'd be very nice if you start informing us on whether it's ok to shoot a particular slug through a choke or not. Some slugs are designed to be shot from cylinder only and will harm your gun if shot through a choke.
I am still confused as to the answer about this. Can you shoot a slug (or anything that fills the bore, like some of the slugs in this video) through a shotgun with a choke? Do you take the choke out? Do you use a certain choke? Do you buy a rifled choke? I'm sure you don't take the choke out, because the threads will get mashed.

People say that Uno slugs are quite good 6:08 this one is obviously inspired by the slug designed by duke Shirinsky-Shikhmatov in late 19th century specifically to hunt bears. He used to hunt them with guns, and with spears too, designing a version of a bear spear as well.

Seeing that Shocking Defense round's name come up it made me think, somebody needs to come up with a slug design that's true to the shocking part of the Shocking Defense name. There needs to be a slug that not only works as a conventional slug, but upon impact delivers an electrical shock as well. Basically a lethal taser round, if the impact of the slug doesn't get you then the electric shock will.

What are your recommendations for a first time shotgun. I do some trap with my father and use his benelli that was super expensive and quite nice over under. I have purchased a winchester black shadow 3" but the damn things are on a backorder so far 3 months. What would you recommend for a good multi purpose shotgun.? I have not used very many different guns, a pump with shorter barrel, the trap gun over under and a side by side. Lost looking for something that is the best for the money. Thank you for always posting up great stuff and would love to see some different shotguns up there!!

Most slugs allow a tolerance to be shot through a full choke. A few we tested clearly said to not shoot through a full choke.

Use rifled slugs, not sabot, on smooth bore for better accuracy is the theory.
