The BEST 12ga. Shotgun Slug? RIDICULOUS Stopping Power
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 22 июл 2020
- In this video we test a slug called "The Gatekeeper". I've never heard of it and wasn't impressed with anything about it when I first saw it. This is the first segmented, lead-free slug we have tested that has actual "controlled expansion". Slugs like this normally just fragment into many pieces- that is what we expected to see.
I believe the slug is actually made by Maker Bullets - who call it "Maker Overwatch Field 1 oz Shotgun Slug".

Ahhh!! Thank y'all so much for allowing me to shoot some more!!! I had so much fun! These rounds were so fun to shoot!
Also, I realized I never really gave an answer about the recoil so I'll do that here. The recoil is comparable to, but less than that of a 30.06 Ackley.
Good chemistry with you & the two lads. Great to watch.
Great shooting ma'am.
You is a good shot looks fun too greetings from UK England
Good work!

Somebody's business is about to expand, just like their product does.
i know the person who made those. he’s my neighbor
Yea, my first thought I’d where do I get them.
Something else is expanding now too
Pixel Dust maker ammo
We just went to his site- all ammo is completely sold out.... imagine that! Good products make their own demand.
Breanna’s a hell of a good shot.
Dead-eye Danny vs. Ballistic Breanna, anyone?
yes, give us a shooting competition with rifles and shotguns
Yes
YES! MY COMPETITIVE SELF NEEDS THIS 😂
I wanna see i wanna see!!!
This needs to happen.
Who ever engineered that slug was a genius.
Yep, all hail Idaho.
That was simply breathtaking. I wonder if these can be mass produced to be consistent at 100,000 unit batches. I could see these becoming the predominant home defense and predator defense round for sure. Wow. Stopping power incarnate.
10:54 yep, it's official. She fits right in with this crew and crowd.
That is one crazy round. My 2nd favorite so far.

Can you get a demolition ranch reference in there?

@@edwardwood6532 LOL!!!!
These rounds are the most impressive things I've seen in ballistics for some time!
Their consistent expansion is nothing short of remarkable and with these loaded you'd have absolute confidence that whatever you shot would stay shot - and the target would get it's own gold star...
Edited to add that the shooter was the most accurate I've seen in a long while!
Those rounds flew true!
This slug is well designed, thoroughly impressed with it's accuracy and consistency.
I love this video for 2 reasons:
1. This slug is exactly what I've been looking for.
2. She snorts when she laughs.
Point #2 is more attractive than women realize.
@@samuelprice9728 absolutely.😂 snorting while laughing is adorable😍 and will instantly get my attention lol
Awww shucks 😊
I was thinking it was her laughter that included the snorts
That rounds about as survivable as a 50 cal. Absolutely insane temp expansion.
Id say you would die quicker, 50 cal might hit harder but the energy dump on this thing is no joke.
TBF people have survived 50 cals. barely.
@@allengordon6929 not if they got hit center mass right?
@@StrengthScholar0 As long as the temporary wound cavity isn't too big (TBF the round readily creates TWCs more than twice the size of a human body). Ironically being hit with armor piercing ammunition here may give you a better chance of surviving.
Not necessarily, if you were wearing level 4 body armor and if you were to be shot with that slug, you would survive. However, if you were to be shot with a 50 cal, even if the armor stopped it, 50 BMG hits with so much force that you would still die.
"Love heals all wounds"
Love ain't gonna heal THAT!
Haha damn straight, jeez that's a brutal looking death flower of a slug haha, could hardly beleive how perfect it expanded and jeez that thing looks like it would hurt loo
Examiner: This man was impaled with what looks to be some kind of bicycle sprocket.
underrated comment lol.
At $4 per shot do you think it’s ok to go to the morgue to get them back.
😂😂😂
Bahahaha hreat comment!
Nailed....! 😂
Better take care of that before the coroner gets there.
Ahahahaha 👍
Seems to me that this round would be hell on big boars, both hog AND bear. Got enough initial 'slam' penetration to get to the "good stuff", and then transform into a meat 'vegematic'. Whomever designed this thing should be damned proud:) As far as I'm concerned he's surpassed almost all, if not ALL previous shotgun/musket projectile designers, WITHOUT forcing the shooter to endure the massive recoil of the Minie' ball.
Vegematic,ROFL...🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
That sun/petal shape looks like it would dump so much force that you might actually get the classic vidoe game/movie effect of throwing the target off their feet.
Impressive round.
u saw what it did to the gel in the slow mo, it probably would
“Blows the lung out of the body”
@@kaliumnitraat No No NO! Only the 9mm can do that. Come'on man!
Accurate, devastating and absolutely scary. At least Kevlar works nicely, even though it'll probably still break your ribs.
Fascinating slug!
Deadeye Breanna, she's a hell of a shot!
T'was a Tauntaun that Han Solo cut open with Luke's lightsaber.
To be honest , even if the kevlar caught the slug the energy transfer would rupture your organs and still kill you.
I think it stays together for Kevlar, not to be safer for people wearing Kevlar, but so that the power is more concentrated. If it expanded on the Kevlar the target would feel more of a punch than a sharp jab. Bad guys wear Kevlar too.
@@thetruthexperiment Makes sense. Still scary and I wouldn't want to get hit with it. Not that I want to get shot at all...
If you got hit by that it would brake your soul.
@@thetruthexperiment Not a bad guess, but it's not by design that it does that. Please bear with me because I'm trying to remember how an engineer explained it to me years ago.
Expanding rounds need to encounter a non-compressible fluid in order to function. That little cup in the center of hollow points is designed as an area where fluid can accumulate and hydraulic pressure can force the round either open (as in this case and in most hollow points) or apart (as in frangible rounds). The reason the nose collapses in on itself when it hit the kevlar was because there was no fluid to generate pressure in the cavity. The tips of the round transferred all of the energy into the vest and because of the shape of those tips the round folded along the stress lines in around the weak point (the center cavity).
I still sure as heck wouldn't want to get shot by one, with or without a vest.
My jaw dropped when I saw that jelly block slowmo shot. That kinetic energy is amazing.
That was terrifying. That energy dispersion...I think if you hit someone with it they'd just explode. Gatekeeper is a very good name for it. Well done ARM!
That kinetic shock and energy dump is phenomenal!
Even the elasticity in the pork shoulder. I never thought you could get that much movement with it still being intact. I would have liked to see the kevlar vest wrapped around a watermelon or something. To see how much damage you'd get wearing a vest. I would bet the internal bleeding would kill you still.
iMack10 -Thatd be one regretful home intruder 😳
Hey guys, this slug has roughly HALF the energy of a typical lead slug. It’s around 1700ft-lbs. A typical lead slug is around 3100ft-lbs. this would be a devastating round, but a standard slug will be more devastating.
I've watched more than a few of y'all's videos, and this is the most impressive round I've seen yet.
thanks Eric
This video is incredible. I love that you guys used cylinder bore for the testing as well. When you get great results in accuracy with cylinder bore that makes a statement.
Breanna is giving Dead Eye a run for his money! Welcome back and great shooting! Jeff and OG great work as always!

Thank u to all ur wisdom and wonderful expert shot, Brianna!
Most impressive slug I've ever seen, low penetration, massive kinetic disbursement, exceptional slug expansion, scary deadly! The gal was very accurate, glad to see her out there.
Does this mean they would be ideal (and safer) for Law Enforcement to use.??? Real stopping power with no risk of pellets or shrapnel injuring bystanders??? As a non- expert with no experience, it just looks to me that it would put a bad guy down with no risk to anyone else. I've seen Corrections Officers (in training) put .223 FMJ slugs through the target and into material some metres behind. Hence, they went from using the Mini-14 to the Ruger 40cal with plain, old, lead slugs. These did not have the knock-down power of what I've just watched in this video
"Love heals all wounds under 39mm"
Great shooting Brianna. And thanks to Greg for sourcing this round. Very impressive.

Thanks!!!
Damn she can shoot. Literally hit exactly where she was aiming every time. Says alot about the slugs as well.
She is one great shot. The projectiles are awesome and totally unexpected.
Oh, one other observation I want to make, this time about Breanna.
When I was a young man, my father sat me down to talk seriously about "the facts of life". As he put it:
"Life is TEAM SPORT; when you start thinking of women and marriage, keep that in mind. Choose your teammate CAREFULLY, keeping that in mind."
I would say, that whomever managed to win this woman's heart, did a HELLUVAJOB! Not only did he succeed 'choosing' as to the 'womanly' side; he choose a 'teammate' fully capable of standing up right next to him, in the face of WHATEVER 'life battlefield' he is ever confronted with! I'm a combat vet and it would've been damned reassuring to know someone of her skills was right there on my flank.... Grats to not only Breanna, but to the parents who raised her:) Good luck and fortune to them all.
5:12 Watching the vest pack itself into the dummy's abdomen was an education unto itself.
makes me think you might have better luck having the thing go right through you.
Brett Baxter I can believe that there would be a bunch of internal damage, even though the slug was stopped. One would still be out of action....
@@archjen Hydrostatic pressure is going to force very large organs out of your major orifices, much like a Playdoh extruder, but a lot more red.
Pretty sure you'd still have pretty juicy insides if a human was behind that vest.
Armor penetrating? No, this round makes the armor penetrate you.
Quick question, Jeff...
If this company wanted to put "As Seen On Taofledermaus" on the box, would you let them?
I second this
holy hell! this is amazing idea
That should be an automatic Yes.
How about replacing all those Flex Seal TV ads for this product?
I love the music in the first part where you're reviewing the slug before firing it, it makes it feel like you're uncovering a mystery or something lol
I have nothing but respect for Brianna you handle your gun well and are a good marksman and probably could give Greg a lesson or two. 🤯🇨🇦

It's so crazy just how consistent that expansion is.
Just a few years ago the uproar was all about the "Black Talon" pistol rounds. Fast forward...12 ga slug big as a daisy!! crickets I think we could call it a daisy cutter!
Acquaintance of mine is a former LEO (she was with Georgia State Patrol). We were talking firearms years ago and she mentioned keeping Black Talons in her 9mm. IIRC the uproar was the "anti" crowd was spreading that the round was designed to penetrate Kevlar vests. When in fact (IIRC) the Teflon coating was to help with the feed. Long time ago, memory fading at 61? BTW keep Breanna coming back. Like Kirsten Joy Weiss and several others someone like her will be a great inspiration to get more ladies shooting (or at least make some of them that don't shoot a little less afraid of guns)!
You're a daisy if ya do..😁
You said that you don't want to tick off Breanna's dad or husband, but the way that gal shoots, I would be worried about her.

Imagine putting a loose tungsten dart in the core for vest penetration if needed. As accurate as those things have been it should fly true and give it some extra penetration power for hardened targets. Great shooting, and was awesome to see a return guest. Keep up the awesome content!

🤔. Wonder if a flechette would ride in it...
@@DIVeltro It might need to be shorter than a traditional flechette, but a bigger rear. The thin pointed nose shouldn't effect flight characteristics too greatly but may slightly effect fluid dynamics upon impact. You would need the back of the dart to match the center of the slug for stability. Like stabilizing a coke can, versus an upside bottle in the palm of your hand.
