“I hear this loud humming noise”
*Pans out to a wider angle with dramatic techno music in the background*
absolute wasteman
Then he gone “heart” the comment. Cold blooded. 🥶
RUclipsrs be like: I want to tell you how to fix your car, house etc.
Also RUclipsrs: but first let me play and find the right music so you can’t hear clearly 🤦🏾♂️
Actually, it's not the fact that you are using another power outlet. It's because you reset the (Systems Management Controller-SMC) by unplugging your computer for 20 seconds or so. This is how it's done for Apple desktop models. If the CPUs get too hot and the fans spin out of control, your computer is designed to crash and restart. It's a precautionary measure Apple designed into their product as to protect the computer from a massive heat attack. Unplugging the computer resets the SMC which also resets a plethora of other issues. By reseting the SMC, you got your rogue fans to behave normally.

Will having more GB RAM neutralize The sound, because theres more power going into your imac
Huh
Thank you! My computer’s fan was loud the minute I turned it on this morning. I followed what you said and just like that - quietness 😊
Glad it helped! Thanks for watching.
Wow! Unbelievable. My fan was causing me to stay away from my iMac ( which I love).
I followed your instructions... Instant silence! Thank you so much. ❤️
Glad it helped! Thank you for the visit LadyC.
It works! thank you so much, it's been months and I finally found a solution. You rock!
Im so glad it worked for you. Thank you for sharing your success with our viewers.
Thankyou so much, this worked! I'm writing my thesis and had to use earplugs at one point because of the loud noise. Thought I was going mad.
Glad it helped! And thank you for sharing with our viewers.
I am amazed at this resolution. I have parallels set up on my iMac and play hidden objects games as well as use it for work. Since I have had this new iMac it has been running the fan real bad. I unplugged it from the surge protector and plugged it in to a power source by itself and instantly the fan is running correctly. Thank you so much for this.
Awesome Estelle. So glad it worked for you.
We were watching your video to trouble shoot our computer. We had tried unplugging it like you were doing. Turns out it didn't calm the fan till half way through your video but I'll still give you full credit.
I'm glad it worked out eventually. Sometimes it doesn't always work. Thanks for sharing.
Jonah I am so grateful to you. This problem fan noise just happened when I moved my computer from one room to another. Then I followed your instructions and it worked. Thank you so much!!!
Awesome. So glad my video helped. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I was confuse of why my “MacBook air,” fan was goin’ nuts... and this video was the right choice; And again... Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words.Super glad it worked for you.
Keeping the brightness down and closing unused apps helps it keep cooler as well. thanks for the upload Jonah!
Great idea! Thank you.
THANK YOU! I tried everything. SMC reset, PRAM, etc. It was driving me nuts. Your solution worked.
You're welcome! So glad it worked for you.
I've done all those things. And now this solution as well, but its still not working for me... I don't know what to do anymore
I was so desperate with my desktop, and I followed your instruction, it worked. Thank you sooooo much
You're welcome! So glad I could help.
Just wanted to say thanks. My fan was noisy always, so plugged directly into plug socket instead of extension cable and fan noise eliminated. Fantastic
Glad it worked for you.
The reason I’m here is because I searched on “iMac with loud fans” It worked, I moved my power cable directly to my surge protector. 👍🏽 back to normal 👍🏽 big thanks I was just about to tear into my machine. Great fix thanks.
So Glad It could help. Thanks for the visit.
Thank you, fantastic. We had a power blackout and power return surge and when I restarted my Imac there was the fan. Tried another outlet and we're up and running quietly, Thanks
Glad it helped. Thank you for sharing.
I was looking for a solution for days, this worked thanks so much
Super glad it worked.
Hello, … *music… there’s a problem… *music… with my… *music… computer fan… *music
When “Change the outlet” could’ve been said instead of watching all this
Lol
One whole sentence fixed mine. Change your plug.
Yes. Isn't unplugging the iMac a form of resetting the SMC? So probably unplugging for 15 seconds and plugging back in would have reset the SMC that controls power management and reset the fan thermal control.
Thank you so much! Unplugging for 20 seconds actually did the trick. Really appreciate!
Awesome. Glad it helped!
This is insane and 99 percent of people have lost it... Reminds me of movie idiocracy.. Its here. Think about it, just because you changed to another outlet wont solve anything, computer doesnt know your using another 120v exactly in every room all over the country. Its you unplugging your computer for a few seconds that resets the mac but eventually will return due to low memory, old mac, too many windows open, bad internal board, ssd needs to be reset and so many other possibilities but to say to plug to another outlet will solve it temporarily not because its another outlet but because you cut off power to mac but its not fixed.. folks im an engineer and to be honest it doesnt take an engineer to tell you this, common sense does and that tells me 99 percent of humans are done for...
This is correct. When you unplug for 15 seconds the SMC is reset. Lmao
Thank you and I did read the explanation below. Had this issue for one week... it's been cleared up because of your video ... thanks again.
You're welcome! Glad it worked out for you. Thanks for watching.
Oh my god Thank you so much!!! I had headaches for months cased by this loud noise!!! OMG

I had 0 faith in this working, but gave it a shot and it actually worked! Thanks dude
Sweet! So glad it worked for you.
I plugged my max into another outlet, and it worked. Your a star
So glad it worked out for you.
It’s worked! Thanks so much, I was just playing on my computer and had to restart it. ( My computer crashed ) and then the fan was on!? I was actually panicking thinking it would explode, XD. I looked up ur vid and boom! It works now!
Super glad it worked. Thanks for sharing your success with our RUclips viewers.
Lmfao same happend with me
Thankyou Johnah, this solution worked for me,we initially thought it could possible be a virus, and after running a virus check we found nothing. After watching your video and swapping to another outlet it stopped the fan noise.
So glad it worked out for you. You are welcome!
I can't believe it WORKED!!!! I was already looking at buying a new Mac because it's been 5 months loud noise, so I figured my Mac is probably old (My Mac is 10 years old). I can't believe that was the problem!!! I just unplugged my 6 wall extension thing, and plugged my Mac directly to wall and Noise is GONE!!!!!!!
Awesome! Glad it worked out for you.
I seem to have the same problem but with a Mac Pro (trashcan) I've done exactly what you done cleaned it resetted it and nothing seem to happen
The way you did it doesn’t really mean anything though. It wasn’t a proper test.
Had you plugged the Mac back into the original socket and left everything as it was that would have been a test. Because if the fan started up again, then ‘maybe’ it was because you had so many devices plugged into one extension 🤷🏻♀️
My fan started blowing full blast and extremely loud as soon as I switched mine on this morning (it’s been fine for hours at a time, nowhere near warm let alone hot and the fan didn’t do that at all, didn’t hear a thing from it). I had to restart it, that’s didn’t work. So I turned it off, turned the power to the extension off and removed the iMac plug. I left the 2 plugs I had in this 4 plug, 4 USB extensions exactly as it has been the entire time. Then I plugged my Mac back in, turns the power on to the extension and turned my Mac back on. No issue at all. So can’t say it was the extension and too many other plugs being used at the same time, just going off your video. Sorry 🤷🏻♀️. That’s not to say that it is at causing the issue, but you can’t tell yes or no from what you did that’s all 🤷🏻♀️
I had a subscriber that said, all I did was reboot my computer & that's why it worked. All I know was that it worked for me & many other people too. Never had a problem with the fan anymore.
This was painfully slow but this actually worked thank you
Super glad it worked. Thanks for watching.

Very helpful. Hope to try it later today.

Moved power cord from surge protector to wall outlet . . . problem solved! I don't have surge protection now. It's a '07 25" iMac, so not terribly valuable. I appreciate your sharing this solution! Much o k a y n e s s 🔆

Thanks, it worked for me as well, I was not sure it will go to work but it did :)
Sweet! So glad it worked for you.
Thankyou so much it was the surge protector creating the fan noise!
You're very welcome! So glad it worked out for you. Thank you for the visit.
Any update ? Did it stay quiet ? Have you tried the surge protector again to check?
I haven't had any problems regarding the fan, but i had to bring it in for my final cut pro freezing up due to memory storage.
Yes, ... of course ... another outlet. I had also been suffering from a fan that was making a lot of noise for some time. Finally opened up the 2019 iMac 27", carefully blew all the dust (and it was a lot) out with a compressor, disassembled the fan, took it apart and cleaned it nicely. I did not hear the iMac anymore and the fan runs quietly in the background. I taped the monitor at 6 points with strong black tape because then I can clean it regularly. Not pretty but effective.
Actually worked, thanks mate!
Super glad it worked for you. Thanks for sharing
Life saver, thank you so much!!

Hello Jonah! Thanks a lot for the hint! It works! The fans are working properly! Thanks a lot in advance and best regards.
Awesome! So glad it helped Ulisses.
just a heads up: that's not a surge protector. i had one of those exact Mastercraft power bars and it broke. i opened it up to see what was inside, and the incoming wires were connected directly to the outlets. so if you wanna protect your electronics you'll need a different power bar
Thank you for the info. When I bought it ... it said surge protector. But you maybe right. I will shop around for a better one.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 if it did say that specifically i might be wrong. it just looks exactly like the one i had. if it says surge protector anywhere on the unit then disregard what i said

What sort of RAM do you have in your iMac?
I've got 16GB DDR4, 1TB Fusion Drive, 3.2 GHz Processor
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 Brand of memory? I'm seeing issues like this in upgraded iMacs with third-party memory.
@@pohutukawa2346 Apple said my OWC RAM had electrostatic discharge damage that cause my fan to go very loud rogue.

I try this on my Imac 27 from 2011 and it work..thanks...i was so mad at the fan that was going full speed all the time....brrrr.....:)From what year is your mac?...
Glad to hear it worked out for you. Thanks for the visit & stay safe. I bought my MAC in 2018.
Omg tysm, it worked I just needed to replug
Sometimes it's just that simple.
so you gonna plug it into another outlet.
Very helpful thank you 🙏
Glad it was helpful! Thank you for the visit.
it worked for a while but I'm still hearing it. I went and purchased a new Thor power board but still no luck. Fan speed is on low currently running at 1200 RPM and all the CPUs are sitting at around 50c Deg which is fine. May have to just put up with it or plug my headphones lol
I just purchased the new iMac 27” and tge fan runs if I’m only have 4 or 5 browsers open 😮
Yes I am very disappointed with iMac,
I tried your solution and when i open it , the PC is.not opening at all !! I changed the plugs of the PC the same it won’t open ... is my data in PC will get erased ! ? :(
Sorry not sure about that. I know when I use Final Cut Pro program, the data is saved.
Great! bro you are a genius

Glad I was able to help you out from 13 k away. Lol. Thanks for the visit.
Okay, everybody is thanking the solution, but I don't have an imac still, I was wondering about the possibility to buy one, and what I see is that Apple needs the user to unplug the power cord to fix temporarily a bug/problem/hardware failure that will happen again and again and again? Too weird. I would have wanted to move to a iMac because of avoiding the typical pc tower noise, but, now I think that a monitor / front noise may be much much worse than a tower noise that you can keep far from you and down in your legs, not in front of your ears/face.
If you can avoid it, don't buy an iMac.
@@jonahvlogsdiy4143 Do you think it happens or may happen also in the new 2019 iMacs?
CLUTCHH
nothing to do with outlet ,its the fact that you unplugged the power cable
