I could not hear the noise from you fan, because mine is making to much noise to hear yours ;(

I took the plunge and took mine apart, of the three fans I found, it was the one on the bottom right of the case that was making all the noise, so with nothing to loose I peeled back the sticker that said "Do not remove" to find a red powder like rust, I blow this off and put one drop of motor oil onto the bearing, replaced the sticker and fired it up, silence, its as good as new, 6 weeks later it is still running as good as new totally silent and it gets used every day.

If you have replaced the HDD, it might be the reason why it is making that noise. it requires a connection to the Temperature sensor on the hard drive.

Mine does the same noise in sleep mode sometimes for hours.
Is there a way to tell if the internals are too hot and require so much fan cooling when it is not doing anything?

You can stop the fan noise by a FREE download at either:
      *Macs Fan Control*:
      www.macupdate.com/app/mac/47386/macs-fan-control
(They also have OLDER versions for 10.6.8 and 10.7 through 10.9.)
      *SSD Fan Control*:

I mean like if you still have the iMac, download Mac fan control. And choose what ever rpm you want your fans to run at.

  • @songswedo

Mine started doing this as well. It has something to do with something called SMC. There was one fix that I did where I shut it down a certain way. Then unplugged it for a certain amount of time (like 15 seconds). Then when I turned it back on I had to hold the power button for a certain amount of time as well. Then it was quiet. however that didn't last for more than a couple of days. Then it happened again. I think there is an app that will control it better. Looking into it.

Mine started doing this after I changed the surge protector. Out of the blue my computer started making a VERY loud fan noise for the first time ever. I switched to another outlet and the noise stopped. I think it could have something to do with the current and voltage rating on the outlet. Don't spend too much money before trying this!!

Probably due to the computer overheating it happens to many many devices you can’t really fix it unless you change the cooler on that particular device you can’t change the cooler or you can change the fans and that won’t do any good it will just do the same thing over and over again but if you had a PC or a hacking Tos probably due to the computer overheating it happens to many many devices you can’t really fix it unless you change the cooler on that particular device you can’t change the cooler or you can change the fans and that won’t do any good it will just do the same thing over and over again but if you had a PC or a A Mac but in a desktop computer case then you can change the cooler just fine and it will be a lot quieter

Although Fahrenheit is known around the world as ARCHAIC and it was flawed from inception (Daniel Fahrenheit - a Polish laymen - made 100 the temperature of his wife's body, and 0 the coldest Winter he could find in Dagzing, Poland in the Winter of 1712), you can stop the fan noise by a FREE download at either:

And the USA signed a TREATY - that they would be COMPLETELY converted to SI ("metric") by 1976. One would THINK that the NASA country - would go SCIENCE (metric), and not "The King" (feet, inches, gallons, miles). UN-believable.

Hello Everyone! I wanted to share what i did. Thank you to all who post before me. I tried everything everyone recommended. My fans are doing better. I started with unplugging the power cord for a minute and then plugging it back in and powering on, I also unplugged all the other cords plugged into the same outlet as my iMac, and I also downloaded the iMac fan control app. Not sure which 1 worked but now my fans act as if they're about to come on but then they stay off. Human to human, this is what I did. Black man and proud but humanity is my religion. Who cares, right...I do AND you're welcomed!
