Original Andi mac arent overpriced. They are actually a good deal most of the time. Try building a comparablr pc with 10 gig internet, thunderbolt, a really high end motherboard etc. Even pc guys who wont use them like linus admit that its a good deal and everyone who knows a bit more of hardware than „an i7 is slower than sn i9“ shares that opinion

It may be the monthly pay for a professional operator who uses this computer. While this may seem expensive the hourly pay high end creative professionals make is far more expensive. A $13,000 computer that lasts 3 years for an employee who makes $400,000 in three years. The computer is the cheap part.

Most people in the industry that would justify such a purchase will likely use a different model. But in that world, this is not a huge deal. You have people who drive $150,000 cars, drink $1000 bottles of wine, pay $500 per hour attorney fees. In the grand scope of things having your professionals use this computer is not going to be expensive.

The $13k model of the imac pro has an 18 core Xeon CPU, 128GB of RAM and a 4TB SSD. While your list has an 8 Core Xeon, 32GB, of RAM, and only a 1TB SSD. Also, the 1080TI is a gaming card and not really comparable to the workstation Radeon Pro that's in the iMac. I guess you could argue that workstation cards aren't worth the money, but still it's pretty unfair to compare a computer with a workstation GPU to a computer with a gaming GPU.
I'm sure that a custom built PC with better matched specs would also be cheaper than the iMac, but still that comparison you made was just dishonest, and made the difference seem more extreme than it really is.
I'm a PC guy, but I find it annoying when people make comparisons like that.

Price is not the problem, because these usually pay themselves off relatively fast. It is overpriced for those who want to browse the RUclips, Facebook, and play some game. For professionals who want the right tool for the job, iMac Pro is the dream come true.

It’s like spending $400+/week on groceries and kitchenware as a cook/chef. Or leasing $40k+ cars as a real estate agent, for sake of giving a good impression to clients.
You gotta keep in mind that these purchases fuel their income. It’s less of a personal expenditure than it is a business one.

A real video editor's dream machine! I think Apple came out with the iMac Pro because they saw a lot of professionals were using the 27" Retina display iMac, which was a REALLY powerful Mac desktop then (and still is today, though not as much as the iMac Pro.)

If you would have to upgrade only the GPU or the CPU, which would you choose? The GPU for more graphic intensive programs like FCPX, but what else other than having a bunch of browser windows open and programs (that you can control wether they're open or not) would take a lot of CPU power?

If you’re a professional who uses this computer for music production or video production, it’s pretty cheap. If you’re an average person who works a 9-5 and like computers as a hobby or like it for gaming then yes it’s expensive.

You are the perfect candidate for a powerful hackintosh. See if you can build an i9 or Threadripper hackingtosh in 2018 that can smash Final Cut Pro rendering. You could even add watercooling and do a legitimate overclock to even further push the render times down.

Still, simply building/installing a computer isn't really something that is exclusive to "techy" people.
Elijah _ he already tried building/using a hackintosh a few years ago. Obviously hackintosh comes with its own caveat.
I want to see this too, build a hackintosh with the same tier components and see if the 13 grand price is really worth it. He has built a hackintosh before I wonder why he doesn't do it anymore.

Yes the base model of the Imac pro isn't that much more expensive than a pc with the same spec but the thing about apple is the higher you go the more value you loose and the more expensive compare to pc.
