I used to literally hate MacEnroe all the way back in college. But now he's one of my favorite commentators. He has the courage of conviction and says it like he sees it. In this corporate-dominated world of ours, that's a rare thing to see.
I would love to see John break down scenes of Prince of Tennis. I'd love to see him tear the series up over how exaggerated and ridiculous it is at times haha
As a Johnny Mac fan and a lifelong tennis player who started with a Jack Kramer racket, I have to say the Baumer breakdown at Windswept fields is by the far the best tennis scene ever. Hilarious.
Jack Kramer raquet!! What a begginers classic!! I began with an aluminium junior Dunlop. I was in love with that raquet. I put it inside my bed as a child and slept with her
Would of loved to hear Johnny Mac's thoughts on the Vitas Gerulaitis scene in Borg vs McEnroe. Out of the entire movie, that scene was spot on. Looked and felt just like Vitas.
JM is always so unbelievably sincere and honest about everything he says, and he must be so great to talk to in real life. He is one of those people we learn to admire more and more as time passes.
What about "The Break" 1995 movie? Although it's old, I was expecting his professional expertise on that one. This movie illustrates the important process of tennis tour in America, which young talents go through before reaching the bigger stages of competition.
not awkward but fascinating. I would ask him the questions he already answered. How realistic/accurate was Borg vs McEnroe? did they portray tennis in a favourable light, did u like the movie? did it 💔 Ng back happy memories? And u absolutely rock, keep doing tennis commentary.
My dad has that training video John is referring to. I don’t remember specifically the drills he and Ivan ran, but I vividly remember the opening. “Hi, I’m John McEnroe.” “And I’m Ivan Lendl.” (In Llendl’s Czech accent).
@9:00, notice he caught himself saying Serena Williams is the greatest athlete, then correctly corrected himself to add greatest female athlete. Hahahaha. This brings back that NPR interview where he got in hot water for saying she would be ranked 700 among men, or something like that. Love you Johnny Mac.
Did he even break down the tennis scenes in these movies? All I heard was McEnroe talk about John McEnroe. He was an immensely talented champion, but he was and still is full of himself.
I was so hoping he would comment on Tennenbaum tennis, but was bummed he took it so literally and didn’t understand it’s just making it extreme so you can feel the metaphor and the emotion of when you’re having a melt down.
yeah, I wouldn't call Royal Tennenbaums a tennis movie. One character is a tennis player & there's a total of about 30 seconds of him playing tennis. But hey, there's not that many tennis movies so I guess we gotta include it.
No 3-set match should have a bathroom break. It's turned into a scourge for the game and for fans. Maybe a 5-setter you can be allowed 3 minutes IF you're willing to give up a trainer break.
at the end of the day it is just a movie. it's never going to be an exact replica. what it should be is entertaining, first and foremost. What i think is important is that they capture the SPIRIT of what it is they are portraying. and i think the movie did a good job with that.
Why didn't any young ladies make that offer to me when I was hitting tennis ball cans consistently in practice at college? All I got was a 10 dollar bill.
Roger Federer can be played by Joaquin phoenix, the guy that played emperor in the movie 'Gladiator' ,look up the last fight scene in the movie 'Gladiator' if you're not convinced..
He’s just so literal when it comes to sport, his art collection isn’t that way. I don’t get it either - that scene nails what it feels like to me when I have had a break down on the court.
Mac and roll quit doing his homework a long time ago about new upcoming tennis players it's time been time for him to step down and let somebody else do the commentary
John, I would love your opinion on the 5th set, which is recent French movie. Maybe the end is not so realistic, but the whole story looks real, and emphasizes on the 'anonymous' players. m.ruclips.net/video/mr2iOLwo080/видео.html
McEnroe is an excellent commentator on everything. I could listen to him talk about anything.
Yes. I love love to have a dinner or coffee with him.
I feel the same way lmao
There’s a documentary on Crave called McEnroe if you haven’t seen it you’re missing out because it’s excellent
I hope I’m as captivating at that age.
true

"My arch-nemesis, Yvonne Lendl"
Thank you captions. I had a real good laugh at that one 😂😂
Ivan. That's how you pronounce it in Czech.
@@musicjunkieflI guarantee you they know that. 🌚

GQ afraid weebs will cancel them lmfao
Lmaooo I would absolutely back this. Baby Steps would be the safer option, but why not both? 🤔
Dude I wish they did that😂
It is shonen anime with tennis as the backdrop. You might as well criticize Mario tennis as unrealistic.
I was 10 when Mac played Borg and I always routed for Borg, now as an adult I realized how brilliant Mac was also!
Bjorn Borg drives a Saab. That ad campaign is burned into my soul, somehow.
One of my favourite tennis players, the man had total control of his emotions, the one and only John McEnroe
McEnroe could provide commentary on almost anything and be still interesting to listen to.
i thought the thumbnail was him when he was younger and was about to comment that’s he looked exactly like Shia Leboeuf 🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡
As a Johnny Mac fan and a lifelong tennis player who started with a Jack Kramer racket, I have to say the Baumer breakdown at Windswept fields is by the far the best tennis scene ever. Hilarious.

Mr. McEnroe commentary on all things tennis is fascinating. #Thanks
Yes, loved his appearance on Curb Your Enthusiasm as well.
Would of loved to hear Johnny Mac's thoughts on the Vitas Gerulaitis scene in Borg vs McEnroe. Out of the entire movie, that scene was spot on. Looked and felt just like Vitas.
would’ve*** = would have
JM is always so unbelievably sincere and honest about everything he says, and he must be so great to talk to in real life. He is one of those people we learn to admire more and more as time passes.
McEnroe transcends Tennis the same way Charles Barkley transcends Basketball just a very likable guy, very honest.
I love John McEnroe! I loved him as a player and I love him as a commentator.
It would've been cool to see him critique Alfred Hitchcock's 'Strangers On A Train'. Lengthy tennis scene in that one.
fantastic commentary by John McEnroe. The best in Tennis!
Jonnie Mac rambles, people. That’s what he does. Personally I can listen to him ramble all day.
Most natural tennis great. Very articulate and sense of humor.
Recently saw Johnny Mac at the Laver Cup. What a swell fella
You might not like what he says or how he says it but McEnroe always tells it the way it is. Such respect for the guy.
love this!
Hi Venus Williams.
I am a swede and grew up with these guys...Love McEnroe!!!
I always enjoy listening to McEnroe. Great video
I could listen to John all day talk about tennis
I heard a lot of good things about King Richard. Mac's endorsement makes me want to see it that much more.
It is a great movie. Only negative I have is the girls should have been taller.
McEnroe is endlessly fascinating.
What about "The Break" 1995 movie? Although it's old, I was expecting his professional expertise on that one. This movie illustrates the important process of tennis tour in America, which young talents go through before reaching the bigger stages of competition.
The best tennis movie ever I think was Players with Dean Paul Martin and Ali McGraw. Tennis was superb because Dean was an actual pro.
Imagine being on a plane and seeing John McEnroe watching Borg vs. McEnroe.... awkward, lol
not awkward but fascinating. I would ask him the questions he already answered. How realistic/accurate was Borg vs McEnroe? did they portray tennis in a favourable light, did u like the movie? did it 💔 Ng back happy memories?

Best tennis commentator in history
My dad has that training video John is referring to. I don’t remember specifically the drills he and Ivan ran, but I vividly remember the opening.
“Hi, I’m John McEnroe.”
“And I’m Ivan Lendl.” (In Llendl’s Czech accent).
MacEnroe's legs and arms were like twigs
Mac's one of those people who can talk about anything and always be interesting.
What an excellent speaker Mr. McEnroe is and I enjoyed hearing his thoughts on all the films. I loved this video!
I’ve never watched video where John McEnroe is talking that I find boring. He always come with something special an interesting
I'd be curious to hear his take on the Hitchcock film "Strangers on a Train" and the tennis scene there.
"I guess at one point he got mad" lol. That's hilarious. Borg was rather reserved.
He comments on everything.....even comments on a life of a high school girl 🤣
13:54 here he goes again calling someone a moron?! 😂 j/k Mr. McEnroe what a legend. Thanks for the commentary
More movies need to be made on Tennis, one specially on Federer.....
Great talk interview John
Yep King Richard is the best tennis movie so far.
Super honest !! Thank you John!!
Always the entertaining guy😀👍🏼
Great breakdown John!
FUN FACT: 0:46 voice of Spongebob SquarePants and a bunch others. Tom Kenny
McEnroe is so unintentionally funny. 😂
Wonderfully said Mr. McEnroe.
Would love to see him shred "Challengers"
I always get into arguments when I tell friends McEnroe was the best tennis player I ever saw !
HOW did this entertaining, knowledgeable guy lose his talk show...?
Yeah and it was reported that the show got a rating of 0.0.
He had a talk show?
@9:00, notice he caught himself saying Serena Williams is the greatest athlete, then correctly corrected himself to add greatest female athlete. Hahahaha.
This brings back that NPR interview where he got in hot water for saying she would be ranked 700 among men, or something like that. Love you Johnny Mac.
No one in tennis disputed his statement; not even Serena Williams.
Mac should've reviewed the movie Players. At least Dino Paul Martin could really play. Plus he"s in that movie as well.
0:43i have never seen any pro tennis player playing a point with a ball in their hands LOL
Love McEnroe!
Subtitles say "Yvonne Lendl". I like that.
I been waiting for a tennis breakdown purely because its a sport i know so little about😂
Grandissimo John!!! 👍🇮🇹
If anyone was going to tell it like it is, it's McEnroe
This is incredible.
Did he even break down the tennis scenes in these movies? All I heard was McEnroe talk about John McEnroe.
He was an immensely talented champion, but he was and still is full of himself.
I've always liked John
70’s movie Players about a qualifier making the finals of Wimbledon/ love story had some outstanding tennis scenes.
Legend!

M is roman numeral for one THOUSAND ....
I thought that tirade happened in 81, the year Mac won Wimbledon. The movie was based 1980. Am I right?
The movie took liberties with the timeline.
luv the shirt... Mac

@@lynnturman8157 - agreed that it’s not a tennis movie per se, but that scene is one of the all time great tennis scenes.
Neither one of the Williams brothers could have beat McEnroe.
No 3-set match should have a bathroom break. It's turned into a scourge for the game and for fans. Maybe a 5-setter you can be allowed 3 minutes IF you're willing to give up a trainer break.
So sharp, he would have excelled in any career, not just tennis. Maybe even a doctor or surgeon
Does McEnroe not know that they use body doubles for the actual tennis playing in most movies?
Actually his legs WERE that skinny.
I enjoyed this.
Incredible thank you Mr McEnroe 🔥🔥
Bobby Riggs FOR SURE threw the match, JMac keeps it real
McEnroe's legs were skinnier if anything lmao. I'm watching the actual match side by side in another window
Mac should have just played himself in this movie. He still has the athletic ability and with AI/CGI technology, he could age 'younger.'
John what about Player you where in it...
at the end of the day it is just a movie. it's never going to be an exact replica. what it should be is entertaining, first and foremost. What i think is important is that they capture the SPIRIT of what it is they are portraying. and i think the movie did a good job with that.
No john. It was like that. I was there. He was a god and you weee a punk. Just a super talented skinny punk:)
He should fully watch the royal tennenbaums cuz tennis was not the focus
Why didn't any young ladies make that offer to me when I was hitting tennis ball cans consistently in practice at college? All I got was a 10 dollar bill.
Imagine Sheldon acting as Djokovic. You pick other actors for Rafa and Roger lol :D
Roger Federer can be played by Joaquin phoenix, the guy that played emperor in the movie 'Gladiator' ,look up the last fight scene in the movie 'Gladiator' if you're not convinced..
Serena would have been destoryed by Mcenroe. She doesn't compare.
John that's Borg's son
I thought McEnroe had a better sense of humor. How do you not take Royal Tenenbaums for the comedy it is.
He’s just so literal when it comes to sport, his art collection isn’t that way. I don’t get it either - that scene nails what it feels like to me when I have had a break down on the court.
JM talks and rants like Larry David.
Bathroom break omg! It should not be allowed, absolutely. Imagine in boxing a bathroom break? 🚽👀
That movie Borg vs McEnroe was awful.
Serena admits she would lose badly to top men players
the first three were done by cgi. in wimbledon the tennis was terrible. i'd say tennis was probably the best in 'strangers on a train'.
Mac and roll quit doing his homework a long time ago about new upcoming tennis players it's time been time for him to step down and let somebody else do the commentary
When John says "pretty good movie" it sounded like Donald Trump 🙂epic 🙂
serena williams
Mac was super skinny😂
Wimbledon...I was hoping to listen to him critique the "tennis" matches.
No matter what it’s all about him. A whole movie about the Williams sisters? Let’s talk about the 5 seconds where he appears and how he feels wronged.
It’s a pity that fool Will Smith is in King Richard, as I wont watch it with him in it
John, I would love your opinion on the 5th set, which is recent French movie. Maybe the end is not so realistic, but the whole story looks real, and emphasizes on the 'anonymous' players. m.ruclips.net/video/mr2iOLwo080/видео.html
