Just a great man raised by great parents who reached levels of greatness that most players never even get close to. This was fantastic. John at fifty-ten years old. A beautiful person. When Patty spoke of how John recieved his mother-in-law in his home with tears in her eyes, that really got to me. That really shows the character and goodness of the man. I had already seen evidence of that when, at his induction at the Tennis Hall of Fame, he dedicated it to Patty's daughter, John's stepdaughter. That's class. And when Tatum O'Neal's brother testified in favor of John for custody of their children, knowing his sister was not in a good place and needed to focus on getting better. Hello from a Dane living in Norway. I'm 55 yrs old, and remember John McEnroe tennis matches back then. I remember his rage and that I lost the lust to watch tennis altogether. I was definitely shocked over his behavior just because he lost a point or whatever. Rage, of course, is the key-word here. Rage, in my opinion, is a genetic trait = its a behavioral characteristic that is ingrained within your personality. I play table tennis and like tennis, it's definitely a hard sport. I really HATE to lose and I do play with greater passion, emotion and focus than my playmates, thats for sure. When I lose or dont play as I want, my immediate reaction is that I get highly disappointed and sad a little too long = 10 seconds. But I never get rage and never express rage towards other people. Rage is a whole other realm than getting disappointed or sad. I would definitely be afraid of Mr. McEnroe were I his girlfriend or even just his friend, in that he's definitely "potential" (as we call it in my work-profession), to loss of control, impulsive rage and lashing out, meaning I would consider him as potential dangerous. I would definitely never challenge him in any discussion = I would prefer not do disagree with him in any sensitive matters. I remember that it amazed me that he was allowed to continue in the sport of tennis and not banned for life due to his repetetive rage behavior. How is that possible?
The era with Connors, Borg and McEnroe was a golden age for tennis. I gather that the sport was more popular than it has ever been in the US during that period, and in caused a tennis boom across many different countries in the world.

Interesting that John McEnroe hypocritically refers to the performance-enhancing drugs taken by modern athletes. Even though at the time of his admission, he stated that he didn't know what the trainer(s) were putting in him, the claim that he didn't know is simply not believable. Does he really expect people to believe that for 6 years in a row he didn't know what trainers or doctors were putting in his body? I totally love this documentary.
One of the Greatest tennis players to ever pick up a Racket.
Always loved watching John compete. Have to say, though, about 10 years ago or so I was fortunate to be standing side court when he was playing on practice day at US Open. As he walked off the court I said hi, John, always a big fan, and he literally looked at me with disdain, didn’t say hello, nothing. Everyone is entitled to a bad day I guess but it was a bit disappointing.
An artist with the racquet! I never missed a tournament.
He is sooo funny! He's a great guy!
Loved tennis in those days and he was my favourite player.
