Wild Camping on a Budget? Where To Spend Your Money | OEX Bobcat 1 Tent Review

  • I am joined by Ross for this video, in which we follow up last week's video where I used all of my high end gear, and considered where you can save money if you are looking to get out wild camping on a tighter budget, and if you can still have a good time.
I decided to more or less replicate my night out from last week to give a fair comparison between my expensive gear and the cheaper gear. We hiked to a spot in a local woodland to set up camp, which for me consisted of a budget tent, and sleep setup. I was keen for this not to just be a video in which I went camping with the cheapest gear I could find, as I knew this would not offer what you need to enjoy a night out, instead I went with items which I felt offered value for money, and hopefully this means that anyone looking to get into this type of camping can take something away in regards to where best to spend their money.
    Thank you for watching.

I live in Australia and am getting a Bobcat 1 shipped to me. Even after currency exchange and shipping costs it still ends up being a bit cheaper than all the decent one man tents that are available here. OEX gear seems to be really decent quality for the price. Can't wait for it to arrive, I haven't been camping in a while but looking forward to doing some solo camps. I really like the integrated groundsheet for the vestibule and people say that this is a four season tent which is impressive.

I do enjoy some camping comedy! You two are hilarious when you get together! lol Because I am aging, have arthritis and NOT strong like bull anymore, I am moving to the lighter side of things. I do like titanium, won't lie. lol I also am a quilt person but there are certain times of the year and certain circumstances that I would go with synthetics over down. One must be very careful not to get down wet because it will be useless as far as warmth goes. I am a cold sleeper so that would be my worst nightmare! lol It is also very hard to dry once wet so it wouldn't be my first pick even though I love the lightness of it. Thanks for sharing your budget wild camp, very entertaining! :) :) P.S. Congrats on over 3K subs, you are just cruising!

Thanks Jacqueline. 3k subs. I'm astonished. Your point about synthetic Vs down is spot on. As you say, when wet down does precisely nothing. I am not in the market for camping gear myself, but I feel like there is some really useful information in this video for anyone looking to make their first purchases, it looks from your list that you could even go a little under the £475 you said everything tallied up to. As stated in the video there is no value, other than entertainment, in watching someone spend $100 and have an uncomfortable night out, but then conclude that as they survived the night it was all great. Also I loved seeing the trail cam footage, hopefully you will find other opportunities to get that out.

Thanks. I hope it was a realistic set up. I could definitely make it work. Sadly I have a camping gear spending habit.
