    Great overnight escape, thanks! At 10 years old my first tent was a cotton army style pup tent. I got it with S&H Green Stamps, a coupon like first attempt at customer loyalty marketing by retailers. You earned a certain number of stickers each time you made a purchase. I remember licking them, sticking them in a booklet, and then picking the tent from a rough catalog. I used to pack that tent into our local woodlots down near the train tracks and camp out. That was mid 1960's before our parents knew about all the evils in the world, funny that, our parents had just survived the Depression and WWII. Their basic task was to feed us and keep a roof over our heads. Job done, they only would ask, "Camping with Billy and Joe?, OK, see you in the morning".

      It sounds like you grew up during a fantastic period. I remember the Green stamps. I was just a bit too young but I'm sure my Mum collected them. I bet no tent since has been as exciting for you. Thanks for commenting.

    I am 70 and wild camp in a Terra Nova Voyager. I have just purchased the Nortent Vern 1 PC. Hard to tell from the video footage but it didn't look like you had the ventilation vents open. You also can partially unzip the outer 2 "doors" for extra ventilation and still have some rain protection. Looking forward to seeing more videos of your adventures in this tent.

    • @matryderadventures
      @matryderadventures  9 месяцев назад +2

      Hi
      I did have the ventilation vents open but the doors were sealed up. Also, I had both the solid and mesh doors closed. I think I'll leave it open a bit from now on. I gave it a tough test for a first night out. The air was very still. I'll be testing it again, probably away from water. I hope you get on well with yours. Thanks for watching 👍

    • @Gordonafloat

      @@matryderadventures Sometimes there are humid conditions on a still night that even an open tarp would drip water in. The only other reviews I have seen were in windy conditions in which the tent did well without condensation problems. Hopefully others will also share video about the tent's performance. I have had a good experience with heavier single skinned canvas tents used on base camps over many years so have high hopes for the Vern 1 PC.

    • @matryderadventures

    Condensation is always a problem, even in the most expensive tents. It’s all about ventilation; getting airflow through the vents. If it’s dry try opening the door, preferably at the top, and have one of the vents facing the wind. Good sturdy looking tent. It will be interesting to see how it does in harsher conditions. Cheers 👍

    • @matryderadventures
      @matryderadventures  9 месяцев назад +2

      I'm hoping to put it through it's paces over the winter. I'll pay more attention to venting next time I'm out. I think I overestimated it if I'm honest, and admit it was a difficult first test. We'll see how it gets on. I'll be out again this week. Cheers 👍

    To avoid condensation build up have you considered sleeping outside of the tent? The tent could still be used to keep your bag and boots dry, assuming of course that they have been well aired before zipping them in the tent for the night. Alternatively, perhaps a small dehumidifier could be added to your bikepacking setup?

    • @matryderadventures
      @matryderadventures  9 месяцев назад

      I never see the obvious answers as you do. Thankfully I can rely on your logical solutions to these problems. I'll try the sleeping outside the tent solution first. If that fails I'll look for a dehumidifier, although I'm guessing it'll be dynamo powered so sweat may actually make matters worse. Cheers 👍

    Not happy with that condensation in the tent. the whole point of the fabric was to get rid of that. and the three and half kg tent becomes four an half in the morning. I think I'll give it a miss.
    My own work in progress theory is to have a rock solid sleep system with breathable bivi, and build a shelter round that.

For interest see the following link, where I was trying my Unna with the outer fly only. It was on a cliff next to the sea, with very little air movement.
