JOE TEX - SKINNY LEGS

- Yet another super rare soul performance. This was from a promotional Reel to Reel BETA tape I found in a television station I worked at in the mid 1990's. It was only marked "For Local Affiliates - From your Friends at the Club Vegas" - My assumption is that these promotional videos were made by a music production facility to promote the artists on locally-produced music shows. I really have no idea as to the true origin or specific year!

The lead gutarist is my father, Lee Hadley.. I grew up listening to pretty much all of Joe Tex's music, along with many of the other greats!! I always smile when Mr. Tex calls my daddy's name in this song!! This is great music!!
+Alana R. Was the bass player Clarence related to Lee Leroy Hadley?
Yes.. He is my uncle.. My daddy's younger brother..
+Alana R.They are very talented. You must be very proud .
Thanks so much!! I am very proud!!!!
+Alana R. You're SO lucky to have those memories! Loved Joe Tex!
I think Joe Tex was under appreciated, and his “One of a kind” talent deserved much more recognition for his artistic contribution that made R&B/Soul Music Great today. Thank you and R.I.P. Joe
Keithragin6573, Joe Tex was VERY UNDERRATED as a singer, on-stage comedian, and a DANCER. HE COULD OUT-PERFORM ABOUT 90% OF THOSE ON STAGE FROM ABOUT 1965 TO 1969. HE HAD SUUUPER TRICKS WITH THE MICROPHONE. My man Joe was a SMOOOOOKIN DUDE. HE HAD A GREAT FALSETTO TO GO ALONG WITH IT.
Back in the early 70's I had the chance to see Joe Tex play in a club venue. We had a good table at the front near the stage. My girlfriend was wearing a very short skirt and had great legs. When it came to the 'Skinny Legs' song, Joe had a great view of her legs so he had some and fun sang the song about her, picking out other guys in the audience to see who 'wanted the girl with the skinny legs'. Everybody was laughing, even my girlfriend. It was a really fun night to see him in action in his prime. Joe, you are missed after all those years. Nope... I didn't end up married to the 'girl with the skinny legs.'.. one of life's little mistakes.
I won the SKINNY LEGS AND ALL contest in Columbus, Georgia at the Municipal Auditorium at the age of 15 years old! I won a barrel of KFC! I knew I had the skinniest legs. Other females got up there just to be there. When Joe pointed to me, the audience rolled!
Great story! If men were allowed to participate in this contest, I mighta been the one walkin' away wit 'da chicken! Lol!
Lol i love joe
You would have won that contest if me and my sister's were there.
Mrs. Davis, I applaud your ability to go along with a contest and win! I’m very proud of you. I too had skinny legs and got picked on so badly it left me with a life long complex and low self esteem. I wish I could have been more like you! GOD bless and thank you for sharing your story.
Nothin' wrong with that!
Man growing up in the 70s we cracked up every time we played this song. Leroy. You got her!
I had skinny legs and my brother used to annoy me by singing it in my presence. Haha. Love this stuff I gotcha!
“Exercise index, don’t need boflex, and won’t take the one with no skinny legs like Joe Tex”

The bass player on this cut was J. Alfred Cook from Thibodaux, LA. He passed away and was replaced by Clarence Hadley from Raceland, La. Clarence is the brother of Leroy Hadley the lead guitarist.
great bass line
Hey Mr. Theriot, J Alfred was my dad.
@@iluvlife63 Wow, great to hear from you. I know the entire family. A fellow once asked if he could see his bass, Cook told him it wasn't too many folk around good and worthy to hold his bass!
Mr. Theriot your comment made my day. I laughed out loud, because that sounds just like him.
JOE is jamming hard on this tune, always showing his fun side giving fans lots of laughs and good dancing music💃🏽🕺🏾
I LOVE THIS SONG!
Joe Tex. 'Nuff said. RIP...Thanks for the upload. Blessings
Boy, I’m late to this party. I am 68 now and was just telling my sister who lives In California, I am in Oregon now, that I have skinny legs. Thought she’d enjoyed this song that I remember from years ago. Great song.

Remember my sister in 1967 coming home from a Catholic High School in Detroit singing "Skinny Legs"
Good old boys
My girlfriend and I used to dance 💃and sing 🎶 to this song for hours when we were 13 ! I loved it then and I love it now. 😀 so much fun. 😀💜😸✌🤩
Oh, did I get teased by the boys as a young girl when this song came out. Fooled them all, though. As I grew older, those skinny legs turned into hot and sexy legs. It made me feel real bad then, but the joke was on them!
I hear ya!
This just in: boys are STUPID
You go girl
Yep. My momma used to say I looked like a baby horse all skinny knobby kneed legs but I'd turn into a Thorobred 🐎one day. Lol I think she was right...
My mum used to play this song ALL the time!!! I love it cuz I've got skinny legs- but my boyfriend has no complaints! He's a leg man and he makes sure that they're lotioned up just right after my bath ;)
"Skinny Legs & All" was released in 1967 and stayed on the Billboard Hot 100 for 15 weeks and was awarded a gold record in January 1968.
Loved playing this song when I was a bass player for a local favorite singer/entertainer in Columbia SC named "Big George" Collier circa 1977, 1978.
I am hearing this song for the first time in 50 years. Brings back memories.
HAVE ALWAYS LOVED THE SONG. HILARIOUS.
God Bless You Joe Tex!!

Muscle Shoals baby! With the Memphis Horns I believe. :-)
mike soundcity k have heard of them but have never found a line up with all the names. am still trying in vainly to find out the name of the Cats who played for Curtis Mayfield when he recorded the Impressions and Major Lance
Sounds a bit too funky for 1957, surely?
According to Wiki: "In 1967, Tex's producer Buddy Killen decided to record a "live show" of Tex's, which was actually cut at American Studios. Killen would later include a live audience to give it a feeling of an actual live show. One of the last songs Tex did was a novelty type of song he had composed on the spot titled "Skinny Legs and All" in which he poked fun at a man who unwittingly arrived his date who apparently had skinny legs."

wasn't this on the Dial label
Thanks so much for posting this vid! The incredibly talented Joe Tex deserves more recognition! Signed - Skinny Leg Woman.
OUTSTANDING PERFORMER. to think that i had to wait over 30 years to see this handsome man actually perform this song speaks volumes to the technology that wasn't though it is now!
one of my favorite soul songs
This song brings me back to being a young man back on the block, my friends and I would try to imitate, but we never could!!

Skinny legs are the best ...tell em joe tex
skinny legs are better than no legs
or even one leg !
Just great music.
2021 I still DJ this classic gem
I love this jam!
I enjoyed jammin' to his music as a tween and teen in the 70s. My favorite dancing down the Soul Train line song was :
"I Gotcha". Joe and Soul Train dancer, Damita Jo Freeman cut loose dancing to that song when he was a guest on the show🎉
This gives me chills. I could hear Cecee wailing as she sings.
I remembered this song while watching a pre game shootaround at a girls basketball game, because one of the point guards for 2014 Mark Keppel HS girls team, Arin Lee, had real skinny legs. and I think it'd be a great one to program in a tape of shootaround music pre-game girls basketball or volleyball.
Love that song classic
Love this man he is too funny.
Oh I sure loved this tune back in the day.. I would dance the "twist" and had a great time
I remember my brother and I use to jam to this record on our old console stereo back in the days!
Raised on this crazy talented man! Miss you!
Love this song and SHOW ME...brings back memories
Don't forget, "Men Are Gettin' Scarce"! :-)
So cool and so funky. Reached #10 in Dec, 1967.

I love this line! First heard in a scene from" it's a wonderful life"😮
I've been rocking to this song since it came out.
My momma loved this!!! Thank you Momma for everything!!
I was in 5th grade and I remember dancing to this with my parents. I remember hoping I didn't have skinny legs and thinking if I did I'd never get married!
LOVE THIS! WHAT A MUSICICIAN/ENTERTAINER! I grew up with this, gotta take in stride & laugh at ourselves, oh, yeah. Today, snowflakes would beat you up & cuss you if talk/sing like this...take a joke & get down, it's all good & we love each other, oh, yeah, we do
This is awesome
I remember this on the radio in 1967. Never knew who did it.
Cool find, awesome you found it and preserved it!
The band was jamming'!!!!

We used to play it on the jukebox, in the late sixties. Most loved the song, something different and he was great too.
Saving in my all time favorite list.

He was a GREAT dancer!
Oh man, hadn't heard this song in so long!😆
Back in my skinny days, many years ago. My father teased me about my skinny legs and all. Sure do miss him.
ROCK and ROLL HALL of FAME CANDIDATE FOR SURE 😃😊 2024.
Just came across this track after looking for a certain album that is no longer available.
I was in Hi School in SE Texas when Joe was popular. We would go to Louisiana and dance to him at the TX Pelican Club, all over East Tx and LaPorte.
I remember hearing Joe Tex and this tune Skinny Legs when I was a little kid and it’s fantastic!! These cats were real entertainers
Great Joe Tex, remember this song so well. Got a lot of attention and drunk after hours jukebox dancing. Miss those days so much.
