In 1973, I was a young store security guard in Hicksville, Long Island and I had to work the night shift due to a broken window - the alarms were down. In the middle of the night, when I was alone by myself, I had the radio on in the store speakers and as I was walking past some store mannequins and this song came on. The song featured his impersonations of veteran horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (the latter with the line "Whatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?"

Yassssss!
@Noah Partic HAHAHA!! 🤣🤣
I've been playing this song every day. It sounds great coming from my Echo Show 2nd generation. Nice base, HD quality... Oh yeah, we were talking about Still listening to this song in 2019. I got side tracked...
Yes 🎃👻
Sure does, every single Halloween. 23 more days until Halloween, can't wait.
No matter how long ago this song came out, is still a classic that can't be replace today. Every song has their spot in every season on this planet, yet people tend to forget over time. This song shouldn't be forgotten, without it i couldn't have not remembered how fun Halloween can be to all us in this day of the year. Young or old, it doesn't matter, just enjoy the 31 of October and pass good candy that childre will smile and have fun. A little scares could be good to. But most of all, happy Halloween. 🎉🧟♂️
You know it’s Halloween when this Banger starts playing...

In fact it is Halloween today. Happy hallowwweeeennn!!!!!!
There is no rot on this tune
In 1973, I was a young store security guard in Hicksville, Long Island and I had to work the night shift due to a broken window - the alarms were down. In the middle of the night, when I was alone by myself, I had the radio on in the store speakers and as I was walking past some store mannequins and this song came on. It was sort of funny but spooky.
I'm a security guard right now! At the desk listening to this haha
Comprehensively spooky.

Not only the facial expressions but the iconic Dracula and other voices as well!!!

People talking about Pickett's facial expressions should know he's doing his impersonation of Boris Karloff.
Except the bit where he does Bela Lugosi. And Boris Karloff didn't continuously pull faces in his movies.
@gordon mathew I didn't
@@mesolithicman164 he is not doing bela legosi but baron demone or the singer of the novelty hit transylvania twist.
jmhave825
They're both doing a vocal impression of Bela Lugosi.
@@mesolithicman164the character of baron daemon was on the Syracuse NY ABC affiliate as a monster movie host and the host of a daily kids show where kids would play games and watch cartoons at the TV studio. Baron daemon was a goofy friendly vampire and strangely had a hit record with the song with transylvania twist. Bobby Pickett does baron daemon perfectly and I think that is the direct reference. Having said all that, I think it is him doing an impression of someone copycatting Bela lugosi vampire. Bobby Pickett does a great bela legosi when he does Igor.
Dick Clarke encompasses everything that American broadcasting has lost in the past 20 years. Tolerance, decency, kindness, understanding, and love. He exuded all these things when he spoke even of the simplest things. His absence in the broadcasting culture of our nation has truly been felt.

I play this for the first time for my granddaughter. She couldn't believe the lyrics in this iconic song. But she really enjoyed it. Now every Halloween she make sure when I put the Bluetooth speaker on the porch for the kids trick-or-treating she make sure this is on the playlist on my front porch giving out candy on Halloween. And then her and her other girlfriends start dancing on the front lawn to this song in their Halloween costumes
That's Beautiful😁😁
You’re making beautiful memories for your granddaughter…and yourself! One of my favourite things to do with mine was go door-to-door with them on Halloween night. It’s such a happy time with kids and parents out on the streets just having fun together.
I was sad when they became too old to need or want their grandmother with them. They just wanted to go with their friends. As they should. I completely understood,.and frankly, I was becoming a bit too old for all the walking?
This song never gets old
This song is a Halloween Music Master Piece. I am now 55 years old and Ive heard it every year of my life. This song Monster Mash makes Halloween so much more fun. Along with a whole slew of other Goulie creepy critter Halloween songs on the Halloween holiday season. Happy Halloweeeeeeeeeen! Boyles & Gouls.
That's dope and stay safe
Bobby "Boris" Pickett could just about rival Jim Carrey with those facial expressions! He was a natural! I firmly believe the faces make the song 100% better too 😂
So sad I never got to see him while he was alive, but ever grateful that this banger of a song lives on!
I first heard this over 40 years ago and still love both the song and seeing him singing it. My kids are definitely going to be seeing Boris do this because it is so special.
I remember riding around with friends up and down Main St. in 1973 and this would come on the radio.
Been awhile since I've heard it.
I was 10 when this song came out.. Loved it then and Still do. 50 years ago
I'm 46 and have not only listened to, but sang this song for years. This is the first time I have ever seen it performed by Bobby Pickett and I find myself going back and re-watching it. How absolutely committed to the performance was this guy: not only his amazing facial expressions, but his mannerisms and body language is almost mesmerizing.

Right at 4:23, when he calls Igor an impetuous young boy. Those eyes! Karloff's eyes! Shivers!

R.I.P....Bobby....stay strong for us please....
A little history, folks. He was known also as Bobby "Boris" Pickett, and co-wrote "Monster Mash" with Leonard Capizzi in May 1962. The song was a spoof on the dance crazes popular at the time, including the Twist and the Mashed Potato, which inspired the title. The song featured his impersonations of veteran horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (the latter with the line "Whatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?"
I was nine years old when this came out, and we kids loved it! It was the era of the Aurora monster model kits and the old Universal monster movies on "Shock Theater" on TV on Saturday afternoons...
