    I'm subbed to both channels but never get recommended the videos from this channel, but just know I periodically check it to support the work you guys are doing... Yeah this channel is probably not algorithm heavy. This is just for people who are really wanting to watch our content. Stuff is not edited very much and I'm surprised we have more than 100 Subs.
      Vertical caving is the kind that will get you in trouble without sufficient knowledge. And that's how a lot of limestone caves are. Lots of vertical! I'm sure you'll figure it out. Let us know how it goes.

    • @EvenDarker
      @EvenDarker  8 месяцев назад +2

      The dangers we deal with are falling, hitting our head, and the cold temperatures. You'd be surprised what's dangerous in caves. For example, not snakes. But I've been in several caves that were full of used hypodermic needles. Not flooding, but I've been in caves with dead animal carcasses piled up.

    What about caves beckons you? I know im not one to talk, i love mountains and sub zero temps but the cold has a blissful peace to it, mountains are tall and make you feel safe amongst them. Entering a form of mental stasis brings clarity, whether it be cold water or the freezing breeze. But what about a tight tunnel gives you that feeling?

    • @EvenDarker
      @EvenDarker  9 месяцев назад +2

      Not a thing. Like I never gave it a thought. There was a cave and I went in it. Never occurred to me not to or to think of reasons why I liked it. Just like I want to eat pie that I like versus food that I don't like. I couldn't tell you why.
      I could make something up that would satisfy the question like it's a fun adventure or it's peaceful it's relaxing it's Unique nobody else is there it's quiet it's beautiful it's like a different world it's like visiting a different planet. But in the end none of those reasons are reasons why I cave. I just like it.

I really love that it's not flashy or "this cave has "GHOSTS!" or anything like that. Just a (maybe dumb) question: If an unexplored cave goes further than you expected, how do you determine when to stop? Mutual inituition?

    • @EvenDarker
      @EvenDarker  8 месяцев назад +3

      We stop when we get tired. Basically. If there's a new cave and it's big and cool we hate stopping. We often have to break up exploration and mapping into multiple days. Sometimes into separate trips that are months or even years apart.
      We just keep the data and information and we keep chipping away and over time all the caves in our area get accounted for, explored and mapped. The library of known caves is expanded all the time by our group. We just keep chipping away!
