    My honest opinion is that relatively cheap cars like Duster, Panda, Jimny, etc are best off-road, because you wouldn't be afraid of your car as much when you drive expensive ones, so you would personally perform better.

    • @HarryFlashmanVC
      @HarryFlashmanVC 6 месяцев назад +2

      @gerrybailey447 hmmm... well it would be close. The very best off road vehicles are light ones.. look at the Lada Niva and the off road vehicles farmers use these days.
      The Defender has extremely sophisticated traction control which would compensate for its huge weight... to an extent but there's always a point at which the laws of physics kick in. Where I live, on a hill farm in Northumberland England, many of the farmers still have old Daihatsu 4tracks from the 1990s because they are super light, super tough and literally go anywhere, half the size of the Defender. Also the Duster is a huge seller round here. What you don't see much of is new Defenders.. they are extortionate and are seen as luxury cars for the rich, you only see them with fishing rods or when there's a pheasant shoot... both very expensive here.
      My money would be on the Duster IF it had an experienced off road driver. If both drivers were novices or they were both experienced I suspect the Defender would clinch it.
      For the record, we have a Mitsubishi Shogun (Montrero/Pajero) long wheel base, which is quite an old fashioned 4x4 with mud tyres on it, it pretty much goes anywhere but for the really tricky stuff it's a quadbike or a tractor at the end of the day.
      I wouldn't but either the Defender (too expensive, too complex for us to service easily) or the Duster (too small, this is our family car). But once the kids have left I would consider a Duster.
      Edit... just re read your question... Defender on road vs Duster on off road: Duster, every time.
      Last winter I was at a funeral in rural Somerset, very wet and muddy, the Church used a field as an overspill lots of London plated Range Rovers and new Defenders on road tyres. I ended up towing 5 of these out of the field with my Shogun on semi muds. They were completely stuck.
      Tyres are everything especially in mud

Can you do this same test again with the duster having off-road tires and the Defender in regular street tires? I'd love to see those results.

    • @alembic1105
      @alembic1105 Год назад +6

      The truth is though that most cars would make it. All a car needs is decent ground clearance, and then once you start adding things like 4 wheel drive and good tyres it becomes even easier. The difference is though that when it's your own car, you want to look after it, you don't want to just make it whilst absolutely knackering the engine, transmission and all the suspension components. That's why you pay more for a vehicle like a Defender, because it can also make it (just like any economy car could've made all the same challenges), but it has the capacity to do a lot more, so it's not torturing the car, but rather using it as intended. If you treated your Duster like this every day, it would be a very sorry sight after around 1 year and would be worth nothing.

    I am proud for Dacia Duster as it is made in Romania my native country . At that price Dacia won by far in my opinion . Dacia has a number of models very popular in Romania and Europe as well being priced very affordable . Their pick up version is a huge success, too bad they stopped producing those models , my brother has one and at 300.000 km diesel is still priced as when he purchased it at around 7000 dollars almost 15 years ago . Amazing cars . Check also Dacia Logan , Dacia Sandero and Doker . Dacia was the name of my country 2000+ years ago and the Roman Empire had to wage 2 wars with huge armies to conquer Dacia . I love the look of the Defender, and if money was no object, it would be my first choice. But the Duster is amazing value for money, and would suit all but the extreme off road enthusiasts, especially with off road tyres fitted. And an ideal school run car, as it is smaller on the road than a Defender.

    To be fair the Landrover Defender was always going to win and so it should at that price⚠️😲😳
    But the Duster did a great job and for the price differential, came very close to the off road ability of the Defender!
    All the more impressive, especially when you consider the Duster was using road tyres the Defender had off road specialist tyres.
    I'm definitely considering the latest gen Duster as my next family work horse!👍

    Thanks v. entertaining. I'll never do any of those tasks and if I did, it's not a race. Duster. Wins. Easy.

    Wow... soon you will get to be an experienced Duster driver and discover the ESP OFF function/button to avoid loosing engine power ;) - also now imagine an upgraded Duster :)

      Believe in JESUS today, confess and repent of your sins. No one goes to heaven for doing good but by believing in JESUS who died for our sins. For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.(John 3:16)🥳❤️😁❤️😎❤️😋
