5:45 what they mean is that the piece has the same colour throughout its volume, its not just a coat of paint applied over some grey basic plastic. You still see scratches if you go up close because of teh sctual deformation, but you won't see any "coloured" scratches 6:15 from my knowledge the hybrid gets discs on the front and back, the other motorisations get drums in the back
Dyed in mass are only the front and back skid plates (the grey ones). The plastics on the sides of the car are made from a recycled plastic called “Starkle” which is actually unpainted - you can see the white dots throughout it - and has nothing to do with the “dyeing in mass” of the front and back skid plates
Dyed in mass is just the fancy way of saying "Self Coloured" ie it's not painted but coloured by the addition of pigment (not dye !) in the manufacturing process.
@@jos_t_band3912 maybe if scratched it you could sand/rub it and it wouldn't be as noticeable. compared to if it was painted plastic. Renault/Dacia do seem to be making a big thing out of it, every review/first look video mentions it. Maybe it is unique?
Scratches in car interior plastics appear white due to the addition of mineral fillets to increase modulus (stiffness). These are often talc as it gives a good performance but is expensive so sometimes calcium carbonate (chalk or marble) is used as an alternative. In impact modified plastics the microscopic rubber domains also give an opaque white appearance when subject to damage or stress. Painting plastics gives a uniform glossy finish but is another additional costly step in the manufacturing process and there can be problems with colour matching if the plastics are painted off line. Painting online is restricted by the fact that the plastic substrate would melt or distort in the high temperature paint curing ovens. Self coloured plastics are therefore much cheaper and simpler to produce and is this a cost saving for the manufacturer. The flecs of colour visible in some of the exterior plastics used by Dacia are flecs of paint present when recycled painted plastics are granulated and reprocessed.@@jos_t_band3912

No bullshitting of the customers. What you see is what you get - and that’s a lot. Perhaps you want more, but you don’t need more. Good clear design. This is a great help, thanks! I have the previous model Dacia Duster Journey 1.3, which I bought around 18 months ago having decided that after 20 years of giving a small fortune in £££ to Audi, I’d had enough and wanted something cheap and cheerful to run. I’ve been delighted with my Duster. It’s been a real workhorse for me, carrying hay, animal feed, fencing materials and even baby animals up and down farm tracks. I stuck a set of Cross Climate tyres on it as it is only the two wheel drive version, and I have to say it’s been the most comfortable car to drive even on longer journeys. I no longer care about scratchy plastics as I’ve saved about £30,000 over the equivalent Audi. For that, I don’t mind a slightly sore arm! 🤣 Seriously, I’m now about to order the new Duster shown here in the Automatic version as following a bad fall I need an auto gearbox going forward. Glad Matt likes it. I think it’s a great car for the money. And I will remember the tip of removing the fuse to get the infotainment screen working again!
Romanian here: got us our new Dacia Logan last week and it drives like a dream. With all options included and an automatic gearbox it went for about 18.000€. Looking at any other car manufacturer, smaller cars ( Ford Focus, Peugeot 309 ) they all jump way above that just by selecting the automatic gearbox.
3 things need to change 1:more armrest padding 2:mount the battery underneath the floor so you don't lose boot space 3: bi fuel version of the 1.3 because you can't get it on the higher trims (ps: the configurator for this came out later than the spring's configurator which was released later☠️)
I was in a Renault dealership yesterday as I have a Clio on order. The new ones are much improved in build quality, but just try the door shut test and you soon discover how they still skimp on many points including build. It may seem a trivial thing, but I do like to hear a positive thunk.

I'm a first responder, 12hrs shifts in one of these since 2016 and by now they really aren't a poor place to spend your money. Obviously the baby engine one is not worth the pain but it took 90k before my 2019 one visited a mechanic & that understandably was a clutch, considering how we (truly) drive them this blew my mind, bear in mind its 24hrs a day out on the road they do not get a rest! The current 24plate ones are faultless so far on 20k in 3months but they did destroy the cup-holder situation which was perfect in the 2019 model but other than that they continue to improve in all other areas. Please someone tell Mr Dacia 🙏 im a single 44yr old dad who drives a 2014 1.25 fiesta out of necessity, cheers..
I drove for a week a Captur hybrid rental and can concur - the engine is fantastic and very economical. Very good control on acceleration and break, loved it. So this Duster is lucky.
I like it, but the Bigster is the first Dacia I would consider. I am definitely getting a test drive. Note a drive Mini Countryman and Ford Mustang GT, so not their regular buyer. That makes it even more impressive.
I will correct you on the drum breaks, A car can have discs and drums at the same time, one is used for parking brake( drums) and other is used normally( discs)
I have this car for a month now. And yeh the only problem this car has is the tablet stuff. Sometimes car play doesn’t connect, sometimes the touch screen doesn’t work. But just turning off the car and walking away fixes it. I’m assume this will get updated at some point. Prolly just software issues. Also, the start price is 18k. The car he used there is roughly 30k. I have the hybrid extreme with a different color. Every option. City pack, nav pack, etc. I paid a bit over 30k
3:10 The only one on the car journalisme who can judge pedestrian infront of the camera is you mat. Don't care about the car or its colour/price/tech, the thing that catched me is the sentence it killed me. Love it.
The 4x4 version +the hybrid engine has been proven with just offroad tires to be very capable offroad. They compared it to a buggy and it didn't struggle at all. But unlike the buggy you have AC, you don't get wet and you get a boot. Only problem was on descents, because of the engine size you didn't get any engine break.
The hybrid drive train is fantastic. I've owned a Jogger (preferable over the Duster because it is so spacious) for over a year and I'm absolutely satisfied.
I'm waiting for mine to arrive (estimated, mid-December) and honestly i can't wait. I know it's a budget car, meant to be cheap and "practical", but somehow I love the new Duster. Externally is just beautiful, it has that feel like it seems a higher tier car, and it seems a real pleasure to drive.

I am not saying they are terrible cars, but from what i've heared, they are not the best either, as proven with this duster as well.
@@miculescurares8061 own a german car and you gonna find out it has faults as well.
Ok, we'll be waiting for the review of Dacia Bigster as well. Also, keep on eye on Dacia in 2025 Dakar 😎
This car looks amazing! it costs €26.000 up to €29.400 in the Netherlands. Which is a great price.
A lot of good cars came out this year, this one gets added to the collection for sure.
One thing I wish these reviews mentioned more often is the cars sound system, I feel like this gets overlooked far too often.
Its the most inessential part of the entire car
The German guy, Thomas blue usually reviews that part also.
I agree. If we get petty shit like "scratchy plastic" and "you may get your trousers dirty" ...the sound system is absolutely overlooked
I can review it for you.
It's serviceable. If you care about sound, which you seem to do, it's lacking in clarity and there's no definition to the bass. Can be slightly improved with the EQ, but it's never really that good. That being said, it's not worse than other cars in the segment with their base sound system.
Duster is actually suprisingly capable offroad. I drove a 23 Duster rental in Greece and the amount of abuse this thing can take is seriously impressive. Unlike regular cars it's able to go fast on unpaved roads and it takes on unexpected speed bumps like a champ. It's a very tough car for what it is
Just Awesome. Wait to see the bigger brother, Biggster. They've nailed it with this generation!
So it’s base price is similar here in America to the Corolla Cross base version, this looks way better 😮
This is the perfect car to daily. Just practical and economical and nothing fancy.
Why would you buy an SUV for daily? I can never understand why people buy big, heavy cars for only going from A to B. If you'd use it off-road or for vacations I can understand, but otherwise why?
@@George-Chrisbad roads otherwise I would had gotten a Sedan

Greetings from Romania! Finally Matt reviewed the new Duster, our national car, and it's great. Go Dacia!
Dacia is as romanian nowadays as Skoda is czech. It's been a french car for 15 years
The new 1.2 is not a good engine compared to the 1.5 dci. . .
@@Vwlpea lot of things for this car were developed in Ro
@@Vwlpe, well if you put it like that, it was almost always French. The main car that Dacia produced before Renault bought it was the Dacia 1300, which was a copy in franchise of the Renault 12.
@@VwlpeDacia were always Romanian-made version of Renaults, nothing has changed in that respect, except that the Romanian government sold the company to Renault in 99.
5:45 what they mean is that the piece has the same colour throughout its volume, its not just a coat of paint applied over some grey basic plastic. You still see scratches if you go up close because of teh sctual deformation, but you won't see any "coloured" scratches
6:15 from my knowledge the hybrid gets discs on the front and back, the other motorisations get drums in the back
Dyed in mass are only the front and back skid plates (the grey ones).
When you scratch plastics the crum is always white.
Dacia inside looks better than top brands.
In your brain ofc
Indeed.
LPG version will be best seller on many markets across EU.
Great look, cheap to buy, cheap to run.
Until the government changes the tax on LPG. In the Netherlands the roadtax will go up 70% in 2026. I guess to bully the few people driving Pickup trucks.
I’m really enjoying watching you reviewing normal cars it makes us falling in love of the channel more
I'm from Romania, and knowing how Dacia cars were looking 20-25 years ago and how they look now, the change is unbelievable. And the new Duster, still starting and under 20k, with that look and the rest of the things you get, that's amazing.
I rejected my LC300 now will book Dacia❤
We Germans learn a lot about the Volkswagen crisis by watching your review of the new Dacia.
Affordable, value for money, reduced to the necessary but still comfortable and easy to use. No bullshitting of the customers. What you see is what you get - and that’s a lot. Perhaps you want more, but you don’t need more. Good clear design. I wish the Volkswagen management would do a serious effort to understand this car.
This happens when labor prices in Germany are higher 3 times more like in Romania.. if this Duster would be produced in Germany sure it would be double in price ..and yes you are right the Vw management is so wrong...for example why they started to produce so many similar models like T Rok T Cross Taigo The management need to analyse their business before going out of business
@@bigcarlo398
The skyhigh costs for german labour is a problem, especially for Volkswagen, where workers get payments way higher than the averarge german worker. But in general, Volkswagen has lost the ability to build good, simple and affordable cars. Cars for "the people" ("Volks-").
My Duster coming this month ♥️ looks like on of the best SUV on the market
More than happy with my Dacia Jogger. We are also having a new Duster. Absolutely nothing wrong with them. There are a lot of brand snobs out there though!.
If I let you have my Koroq for a week you'd be a lot less happy about your Dacia.

Looking forward to the review of Dacia Bigster
Well done Dacia 🚀
Your work you put into this is so clear!
I would love to see a review of the 4x4 version and the small motor to see if you would recommend it against other 4x4 vehicles 🚗
Really nice car. Romanian built is solid built. Even shoes if you see MADE IN ROMANIA, buy them.
Compari mere cu pere!
Because Dacia Logan is using a cheap automatic gearbox (Automated manual transmission).
This one is coming to India. I hope they don't mess up in pricing and cost cutting
It comes without seats
3 things need to change 1:more armrest padding 2:mount the battery underneath the floor so you don't lose boot space 3: bi fuel version of the 1.3 because you can't get it on the higher trims (ps: the configurator for this came out later than the spring's configurator which was released later☠️)
Doesn't "cup holder" mean a holder for cups not large- ish bottles of water?
Wohooo been looking forward for this review
the 50k Volvo EX30 doesn't have a light at the vanity mirror. Dacia can be forgiven for this !
Oh really? That's really weird for a Volvo.
The future Bigster actually has them, lol. Also has a lit glove box.
I was in a Renault dealership yesterday as I have a Clio on order. The new ones are much improved in build quality, but just try the door shut test and you soon discover how they still skimp on many points including build. It may seem a trivial thing, but I do like to hear a positive thunk.
That Dacia duster looks good, id happily have one 👌😁
i live in Romania, and have ordered the new Duster, the most expensive one, 4x4, expected arriving in January, hope, not been fuulished, thanks for your video, it strenghted my option.
that camera issue needs dacia to make a statement
How long will the hybrid battery last, and how much will a replacement battery cost?
very good question, i am wondering too.
Just avoid buying hybrids
I drove for a week a Captur hybrid rental and can concur - the engine is fantastic and very economical. Very good control on acceleration and break, loved it. So this Duster is lucky.
I like it, but the Bigster is the first Dacia I would consider. I am definitely getting a test drive.
Note a drive Mini Countryman and Ford Mustang GT, so not their regular buyer. That makes it even more impressive.
i guess you owe yourself a nice looking car :))) Mini Countryman? really ?
I will correct you on the drum breaks, A car can have discs and drums at the same time, one is used for parking brake( drums) and other is used normally( discs)
Good news !!!!! the Dacia Bigster is now here !!!
Love it.
And Romanian will still complain that it s too expensive, but there is not a lot of mini SUV s at this price...
Please include ground clearance and spare tire details in future.
James May approves 👍👍
The 4x4 version +the hybrid engine has been proven with just offroad tires to be very capable offroad. They compared it to a buggy and it didn't struggle at all. But unlike the buggy you have AC, you don't get wet and you get a boot. Only problem was on descents, because of the engine size you didn't get any engine break.
AHH finally the wait is over ❤🔥
Now we wait for the Bigster 😉👍
Looks great. Would love to know if there’s a top-down composite view of the cameras or if they’re still only individually selectable.
Only individually selectable. From what I gather, it's a cost-cutting measure; something to do with how much wiring they're using doing it this way.
11:42 The point on Alcohol Interlock Device is regulation driven, all cars will have to have one in the future.
You can reboot the radio by hold the radio power button for 10s. Don’t need to pull the fuse. 😅
Very interesting proposition, shame only small engines :(
