It's funny that this cheap car is one of the best looking SUVs I've seen. Sure, some may say it looks like a toy car but I think this is great design. However, I wish they didn't cut corners so much.
A major step backwards engine wise. The previous generation had 4 cyl 1.33tce and 1.5dci engines, both phenomenal power plants. Now, you're stuck with these anaemic, badly chosen options.

There are seat covers in the original accessories catalog, but you can simply choose the Journey trim which has different seat fabric. The Extreme is not the top trim, it's just different flavor of a top trim. In fact I think I remember calculating Journey + a few acessory packs or Extreme + accessory packs and Journey comes out cheaper with same stuff and you get regular breathable fabric.
I test drove the Duster Extreme Hybrid and one of my favorite hill was close to the dealership. I was not over the top yet and the battery was depleated, leaving me with a low power NA engine. I did not like that, given the price of the Hybrid option. I did not have the chance of driving the LPG engined Duster or the 1.2 Turbo mild hybrid.
Even if the battery looks empty, it's still there giving you some assistance. You'd have to drive the car on track to go below a critical threshold, in which case you'd get some sort of a warning.
@@MarekDrivesENG I'm on my 2nd mild hybrid with a manual and on a manual you feel it way more than on a automatic. You don't need a track and you get no warning, it's just that you don't get the assist. There is no need for a track, you just need a steep mountain road and we have plenty around here. My i30 has a 0.85 kwh traction battery and the Hybrid Duster has a 1.2 kwh traction battery and, while my ISG has 17ps max, the Duster's electric engine has 49 ps so it will drain the battery even faster. At this moment, I'm pretty sure I ran out of usable traction battery during the drive test.
Very informative and unbiased review. I have a diesel and looking forward to it when it is launched in India next year. After watching your video I am having second thoughts.
I think they did a great job overall. It looks good. If you don't care about the use of hard plastics it is a lot of car for the money. Not as cheap as it used to be, but also the competition starts well above 30K euro's.
Analiza ese resultado y te llevarás una sorpresa, el coche es seguro, simplemente no consigue todas las estrellas porque no lleva muchas ayudas electrónicas
I think the non-4X4 Duster has different, harder suspension and better handling. The suspension of the 4X4 was criticised by the veteran dusterian @DusterCoolTravels that it is too soft (in front?), that on steep descents the nose "sinks" too much.
Excellent review- Sometimes brutally honest, but I think all your criticisms are justified. My wife and I have run a number of Sanderos and Dusters, Gens 1 to 3, she's currently on a Gen 2 Duster (our second one, first may have been Gen 1.5...). They all do what they say on the tin, have been fuss-free and have provided reliable, acceptable transportation (some more than others in that last regard) over many years. I have recently upgraded to a Mazda CX 60 PHEV in top trim with all the bells and whistles and... Honestly? I might almost be happier with a Gen 3 Duster at between 1/3 and 1/2 the price. Duster cannot please everybody 100% all the time, or any car for that matter.
Frankly the duster has been pretty good since its inception. Its a cheap (well it was, its getting more expensive), low tech crossover. If you are poor you can still afford it and use it as daily, if you have money you can buy is a second car and use it on roads where you dont want go with your daily car.
I'm currently running a 1997 Vitara (top trim, 5 door 1.6l). I'm actively looking for the car as my daily driver so that I can keep this for the harder stuff. But that car needs to be lighter on fuel, more comfy, reliable and decent when the road ends. A few days back, I went to a dealer and sat in the new Duster. The interior didn't seem like a real upgrade from my Vitara, apart from the obvious electronics. But seats, interior material and practicality are actually pretty much the same, if not slightly worse. And the driver's seat felt less roomy (the door handle was pushing on my thigh in the Duster, and I'm a guy of similar size with Marek). The two things that broke the deal for me, however, are the gearbox and the 1.2 three-blοοdy-cylinder engine. That thing is a disaster waiting to happen. Plus, the engine's small size is reflected in the fuel consumption. You look at the Yaris Cross AWD and you're easily seeing figures below 5l/100km. So, no, I'm not spending about 30K to get a car that a) doesn't really offer a better/comfier interior b) drinks comparable amounts of fuel (mine does around 9 - 9.5) c) yet lacks low range and proper off-road credits and d) the gearbox isn't properly specced and e) the engine neither inspires reliability nor provides proper pulling power On the Vitara I can easily start in 2nd gear on a flat surface. I can go up a ~50% slope (with good pavement) just on RWD with the engine purring at 1000-1500rpm on 1st gear. Have you seen lots of "modern" cars do that? (that don't cost serious $$$$) In fact, the only two reasons I'm looking for a new(ish) car is that a) my Vitara is rather fuel thirsty and b) worst of all, it's quite noisy on the highway and generally not that comfortable for longer trips any more
Not sure I get your comment... Suzuki has almost identical engine, turbo with 130 hp. Suzuki engine has a bit less of torque, only 220 Nm. Torque (not power at 6 thousands rpms, that is irrelevant) is the most important value. The second issue is that 1.2 tce Duster has the same price as much smaller Vitara (in Europe). So it's more reasonable to choose Duster over Vitara.
I daily a 1990 2 door vitara and looking at the duster as well :D But I need the 4x4 if they make a hybrid 4x4 or LPG version with 4x4 will get one for sure.
Wonderful job Marek! 1st review where someone found a problem on one of the driving modes. Will go for the Sandero, due to not needing a bigger car or ego although needing long range and efficient prices but this one was a close call
Originally I had my eye on the full hybrid because I wanted an automatic transmission, but given the price premium I think the manual 4x2 is better value despite its issues.
Someone from the UK mentioned in the comments that you guys are still on second generation facelift. I assume Dacia UK is waiting until 2025 for some reason. I assume there's good demand in LHD markets, and it's a matter of allocating some of the output to RHD markets. Also, it is possible they needed to get rid of all 2nd gen facelift RHD stock before ISA and other new safety features became mandatory on all new cars sold (July 2024).
Duster with a 999cc engine that should power a body weighing 1400 kg. I think they could also take the engine from the scooter and install it in it. How long will the overloaded turbocharged three-cylinder engine last?!!! The Duster with 1.5 DCI was the best combination and that engine had to be upgraded to meet emission standards. I don't know about the 1.33 TCE petrol engine, but a lot of people say that it didn't turn out badly.
I bought the New Duster here in Ireland, looks and drives fantastic 👌. I was looking to buy a Polish car, but unfortunately, I couldn't get one 😂. Daca is a very good vehicle. Also fantastic price 👏 ❤
I'm sure Mat Watson would sell you his Fiat 126 :) Also Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger and now Alfa Junior are made in Poland, so there's plenty to choose from.

I am actually contemplating buying the 4x4 one. The main use would be driving to the mountains to go skiing every other weekend. I tried to find an alternative but there doesn't seem to be one.
With everyone talking about how the soundproofing is way better than on the old model, I was disappointed, it was poor, especially wind noise was loud, or there was something wrong with my test car.
I don't know how's the soundproofing in lower spec models. Also there are other factors, like a windy day or simply you were going much faster, than I was. Maybe it was the tires?
who gives a damn ?! its only for some electronic assistance that is missing..if your previous car was a tesla, a mercedes or even a toyota chr its ok to be worried about it! If your previous car is a daihatsu terios of 2003 pfff...duster feels like a mustang !
Just barely primed metal under the boot floor? I have never seen that before. Cost cutting is so obvious on Dacias. The fact that its fuel economy is just barely better than that of my Toyota Hiace with a 2.7l petrol engine from 2003 says it all. All that modern tech, batteries, regenerative braking, turbos, etc. all result in sparing just 1.5 liters of petrol per 100 km, while being so much smaller vehicle overall? It doesn't pay any dividends at all. Consumption aside, the jerks during shifting killed it for me. The suspension is gorgeous, but the powertrain is just not on the same level yet.
6:25 I think I've seen this review 3 or 4 times as the new Duster is starting to grow on me but it's the first time I heard you say this about the AC. I drove test 2 cars, both Extreme HEV and both had issues with the AC. Going from my wonderful AC in my i30 to the problematic one in the Duster was pretty obvious but never have I addressed the issue with the salesman.
I spoke to my colleagues, who reviewed this and other press cars. Apparently the only way to make the AC actually blow cold air in this one is to put it in the lowest cooling setting, and hope you won't freeze. Another journalist reported a problem with AC during the launch event, but they were given the standard "pre-production car, isolated incident" excuse.
I got a lot of comments about that on the Polish channel. I'll ask my colleagues, who may be reviewing this car after me to put a level to it, and check :)
8:15 Nobody said that space is for smartphones. Many cars have that kind of space and it is before phones were invented. You can put there something light, some napkins, cigarettes, a wafer, a bag of hazelnuts, and you have to make sure that what you put in that space will not cause problems. Any normal person understands that the phone should not be placed in that space, just as you understand that you do not put a cup of coffee on the dashboard while driving. You criticize a hypothesis created by you. It can be used as a temporary space where you can quickly throw some bills or place your wallet, it's a useful space.
Yet another great review video! Thanks! Seems that Dacia moves to the right direction even though they need to stress a bit more. I would like to ask if you plan to make a review video on the "new" Ford Kuga PHEV.
Actually it is a prompter app hanging just under the lens. The mirror attachment is great for studio production, but too cumbersome to use in the field.
@@MarekDrivesENG I guess I will be keeping my old car then, it is 2011 with only 75000 miles. It would have been nice to have a new car but, not the end of the world.
@davidrowley9513 assuming you'd like to buy something new, the only way to avoid certain new features would be to look NOW for dealer-registered cars (so legally second hand, but probably 0 or low milage). In order to be able to sell cars as of July 2024, they either have to be equipped with all the new systems or they have to be registered before 7 July. I'm sure there's some stock left. Not the new generation, but maybe second gen facelift, etc.
then go for a low mileage Gen 2. They look sharp after the last facelift, has nice engines and the interior is still analog despite the screen.. physical dials for the a/c too. I have one and I love it to bits :)
An interesting proposition within this price range considering the improvements and the conveniences of having a 4x4 vehicle. The engine though is small if you need to tow a trailer.
Yes, it would make this car so much more usable. But then it has those fold-out roof rails, like on the Sandero or Subarus, so longer items can go up on the roof without having to install a roof rack.
Its pretty car not gonna lie but price is a bit high (at least in my country). Expression model with basic white color and weakest 1.0 engine is 21.300 euro. If you want different color and 1.2 engine plus registration and insurance will cost you little over 24k. And for that you get cheap plastic interior, basic seats and pretty slow and basic multimedia system.

Good review. This is the first Duster I don't consider to buy. This is not the price range to choose esthetic cars but frugal and functional. One step forward with design, two steps back with engine choice. I am sceptical about the tow capacity of these engines.
I feel as if towing is Europe's answer to pick up trucks. A lot of people say they want big towing capacity, but they never (or rarely) tow anything, let alone something that would max out a car's towing capacity. Having said that, if I planned on towing something really heavy, I'd never consider a B-crossover.
@@MarekDrivesENG I would say that having a hook is more practical, and far more economical than buying pickup truck, especially for occasional uses. Here in CEE, people living in villages quite often pull something. And when not used, they have small, practical car or SUV. I like to see vehicles used to their full capacity or purpose :) However, as I have followed this model further, that engine doesn't look so bad for most of my needs. I would like to try it.
I am upgrading to new Duster from Renault Clio IV :) I was looking for a car with enough space as I am quite tall. I got new duster in Journey equpment for 28k EUR, and I think that for that price I couldn't get a car of this size :)
Overall really good car for the money, but mostly in mid and lower specs. Can't find the reason to buy hybrid, because it's only a few grands away from price range of much more serious cars. I have 2018, 1.5 dci prestige model. While my car is certainly a lot less refined than the 3. gen, currently I don't plan to "upgrade" it for 3 cylinder petrol.
It's interesting that Dacia is always helped by Renault thinking and yet also held back by Renault thinking. It's a real shame because this car - like French cars in general - is really nice, but just won't fly here in Asia where we demand practicality and simplicity come first in our low-cost cars and Dacia would be laughed out of the room for a rear door pocket that won't take a 500mL bottle, let alone those wacky You Clip accessories. (Props to you, Marek, for not gushing over them like every other motoring journalist)
Dacia's YouClip is like Skoda's Simply Clever. It gives the media something to focus on in an otherwise uninspiring car :). At least Skoda's Simply Clever stuff is quite durable.
maybe that was on purpose to not have too much baby liquid in the back… as for the clips they are very nifty but you also need a bit of imagination to figure out how to use them…
I can understand a change to a digital instrument display but if it’s basic, slow and clunky then I’d rather have an analog display. Agree with the presenter, it’s built to a budget but with the aerial breaking along with problems with the A/C on a new car? Doesn’t instil confidence. Shame, this car could have been great but it isn’t.
A nice video and it's a pity that Dacia/Renault failed to execute what is fundamentally both a good idea and a car in a better way. There is definitely a pretty big market for a car like the Duster. In Germany, for example, the car has had a large following since the first generation and it is popular to modify the car with both better parts and technical solutions. As far as I understand, there is great criticism from that side that the new generation does not have proper side windows behind the C-pillar. I guess this is primarily a design thing, but a bit of the utilitarian aspect of the previous generations is definitely gone. In any case, many search for cheap cars such as the Duster while they wait for electric cars to become both better and not least cheaper.
It's overpriced. It should be starting price at 16000€ and full equipped at 21000€. The current price is insane. For that asking price you can buy japanese car. They played little over their head now. 28940 fully loaded. Insane!!!!!
Great video. Flawless English. I have a 2017 2wd diesel Prestige. The new Duster looks good but is getting too expensive and no longer offers a diesel option. I'll not be trading up any time soon.
I presently have a 2nd Gen Duster. 1.5dci prestige. Don't think I'll change to the 3rd Gen. Too many setbacks. Presently I'm very happy with the one I got. Then again, the Chinese are offering more for yoyr mulla.

Notebooks? Do kids know how to write or draw by hand nowadays? I bet they look for the on button.... oh wait, things don't have buttons anymore. And as far as the Duster goes, it's a very classy looking car. And it's affordable. I do wonder if a hybrid system would be the perfect compliment to that 3 cylinder engine. Sure it would cost more but in the long run you'd save a ton in fuel costs. People who buy vehicles like this probably drive them into the ground so it would be worth it.
I don't have kids, but I think tablets and smartphones shouldn't be the first things they get their hands on. I imagine it's convenient for parents to keep them occupied, but that's not raising children. That's just breeding. If they could get their hands on a Toyota hybrid (or even Hyundai hybrid), it would the best car in the world. Renault hybrids... not so much.
@@MarekDrivesENG the CX50 is getting Toyota's 4th gen hybrid. I don't get why some companies have been so slow to develop hybrids. The BMW X1 here runs on premium fuel and no hybrid system... So pay 40c more per litre and worse fuel economy for your entry level vehicle? At least the new X3 gets a 48volt system...which is kind of fake hybrid. Yah tablets are the devil. We never let our kids look at a smart phone or tablet in most situations. They read a book, play their instrument go play with their friends. Draw. Play a sport. When I see a toddler watching something at a restaurant or in their stroller I go crazy inside.

Hello. If you find a breathable seat cover for extreme just let us know!
Hello. Is there a seat cover that can make these seats breathable?

I think they did a great job overall. It looks good. If you don't care about the use of hard plastics it is a lot of car for the money. Not as cheap as it used to be, but also the competition starts well above 30K euro's.
Now that's I call "no agenda" Review. Well done.
Thanks.

Yes, I hear that CX-60 can be somewhat problematic.
As a short-trip runabout Dacia is great value.
Frankly the duster has been pretty good since its inception. Its a cheap (well it was, its getting more expensive), low tech crossover. If you are poor you can still afford it and use it as daily, if you have money you can buy is a second car and use it on roads where you dont want go with your daily car.
I think everything is expensive those days...just salary arent
If you are poor 😂😂😂😂

Hi Marek how does the duster compare to similar size cars when it comes to noise levels?
I'd say it's on par (finally, because the previous two generations were horrible).
Going to miss the diesel. It was the best version so I won't be buying this one
Since it was launched in 2010 and we are in 2024, Duster has 14 years not 20 years... but you are right, size and shape are pretty much the same
I'm currently running a 1997 Vitara (top trim, 5 door 1.6l).
So, no, I'm not spending about 30K to get a car that
a) doesn't really offer a better/comfier interior
b) drinks comparable amounts of fuel (mine does around 9 - 9.5)
c) yet lacks low range and proper off-road credits and
d) the gearbox isn't properly specced and
e) the engine neither inspires reliability nor provides proper pulling power
On the Vitara I can easily start in 2nd gear on a flat surface. I can go up a ~50% slope (with good pavement) just on RWD with the engine purring at 1000-1500rpm on 1st gear. Have you seen lots of "modern" cars do that? (that don't cost serious $$$$)
In fact, the only two reasons I'm looking for a new(ish) car is that a) my Vitara is rather fuel thirsty and b) worst of all, it's quite noisy on the highway and generally not that comfortable for longer trips any more
Not sure I get your comment...
Not even close the interior. The quality in Suzuki is trash. Not the best in Dacia but better than Suzuki.Lpg motor years ahead from your vitaras.

Wonderful job Marek!
1st review where someone found a problem on one of the driving modes.
Will go for the Sandero, due to not needing a bigger car or ego although needing long range and efficient prices but this one was a close call
I'm expecting to buy one in a few months, and I was waiting for your review, with trepidation, because I knew it would be brutally honest. 😂
Originally I had my eye on the full hybrid because I wanted an automatic transmission, but given the price premium I think the manual 4x2 is better value despite its issues.
The 1.5dci 4x4 was the engine that made this car here in South Africa, without it I'm not so sure what future Renault has here.
So this model doesnt come with an on off button for Air Conditioning?
I think you have to press the fan button down low, until it turns off.
Launched in 2010 the Duster remains the same size for more than 20 years. Maaaaaath....
You lost weight! Keep it up!
Seen a couple of new 2024 plate Dusters on the road in the UK that don't look like this one, whats the deal?
Someone from the UK mentioned in the comments that you guys are still on second generation facelift. I assume Dacia UK is waiting until 2025 for some reason. I assume there's good demand in LHD markets, and it's a matter of allocating some of the output to RHD markets. Also, it is possible they needed to get rid of all 2nd gen facelift RHD stock before ISA and other new safety features became mandatory on all new cars sold (July 2024).
@MarekDrivesENG first wave of new Duster orders are hitting the road here in UK with 74 plates (from September 2024).

This is a real DUST-STAR
Duster with a 999cc engine that should power a body weighing 1400 kg. I think they could also take the engine from the scooter and install it in it. How long will the overloaded turbocharged three-cylinder engine last?!!! The Duster with 1.5 DCI was the best combination and that engine had to be upgraded to meet emission standards. I don't know about the 1.33 TCE petrol engine, but a lot of people say that it didn't turn out badly.
Best review I've seen of the this model Duster. I admit I like the look of the design but it appears to be only skin deep.
I bought the New Duster here in Ireland, looks and drives fantastic 👌. I was looking to buy a Polish car, but unfortunately, I couldn't get one 😂. Daca is a very good vehicle. Also fantastic price 👏 ❤
I'm sure Mat Watson would sell you his Fiat 126 :)
Also Fiat 600, Jeep Avenger and now Alfa Junior are made in Poland, so there's plenty to choose from.

I don't think you should consider buying any new car a good investment. Unless you're getting a limited edition exotic :)
@@MarekDrivesENG Yeah I know, but I wish to have a Ferrari but not the case haha
I am actually contemplating buying the 4x4 one. The main use would be driving to the mountains to go skiing every other weekend. I tried to find an alternative but there doesn't seem to be one.
😂 there is no alternative to Duster. Omg😂😂😂😂
Of course there is.

It was already tested on EURO NCAP and it scored only 3/5, traditionally, again...
who gives a damn ?! its only for some electronic assistance that is missing..if your previous car was a tesla, a mercedes or even a toyota chr its ok to be worried about it!
Excellent Presentation
3:25 Am I seeing things, or are those letters crooked?
I got a lot of comments about that on the Polish channel. I'll ask my colleagues, who may be reviewing this car after me to put a level to it, and check :)
Confirmed. It's crooked :)
@@MarekDrivesENG 😱 THANKS! 😅
Nice vid. I have watch many vids on this car and not many point out the underperforming aspects of the car
which one is better old used Dodge Nitro or new Dacia Duster?
Thanks!
Unfortunately Ford doesn't speak to me since about 2018.
maybe you can put your prompter closer to the camera. it is quite obvious you are reading from a paper when presenting the interior.
Actually it is a prompter app hanging just under the lens. The mirror attachment is great for studio production, but too cumbersome to use in the field.
You have just put me off having a look at these cars. I want a basic car without a load of electronics and screens etc.
I'm afraid you're out of luck. All new cars need to have a lot of electronics to meet the current EU requirements. No car without a screen, ISA, etc.
@@MarekDrivesENG That is the route I will go down, thanks for the advice. I will have a look around and see what I can find.
then go for a low mileage Gen 2. They look sharp after the last facelift, has nice engines and the interior is still analog despite the screen.. physical dials for the a/c too. I have one and I love it to bits :)
A 2 Liter Diesel with 150hp or more would make this a car worth buying.
An interesting proposition within this price range considering the improvements and the conveniences of having a 4x4 vehicle. The engine though is small if you need to tow a trailer.
Great video Marek
Thanks a lot for a great review, Marek! Great car. One of the thinks I do not like is that there is no ski hatch
Yes, it would make this car so much more usable. But then it has those fold-out roof rails, like on the Sandero or Subarus, so longer items can go up on the roof without having to install a roof rack.
good review of the du-STAR
I wait the Bigster !

Cheers for the reply, another confirmation that you're "driving" good the channel .
You're right that you can mess up with the editing part so make the polish part of the video also in english ( just to keep things simple 😊 or try to make one video in Chinese just to see if someone cares),

Anyway ...all best and carry on to kick-ass with your charming sarcasm 😊❤
The alternative of learning polish was considered too but I'm not that smart 😂
Don't worry, I'll be doing some infotainment reviews soon, and then I'll switch them to English.
Just try to insert in a video the infotainment in Chinese just to see if someone gives a f..😂

And what do you consider to buy?
@@MarekDrivesENG I would say that having a hook is more practical, and far more economical than buying pickup truck, especially for occasional uses. Here in CEE, people living in villages quite often pull something. And when not used, they have small, practical car or SUV. I like to see vehicles used to their full capacity or purpose :)
However, as I have followed this model further, that engine doesn't look so bad for most of my needs. I would like to try it.
Yet you STILL can’t configure or buy it in uk even though it’s “on sale”
What beter NEW car can you get for under 20k with 3 year warranty(+2 extra if you want) that you could use it in the city and in the countryside!?
Not a Jeep Renegade, obviously :)
Hold on to that diesel, while you can :)
So from 2010 to 2024 is "more than 20 years"?
Oh shush. I wrote it down wrong in Polish, translated it wrong in English. It'll be fine in 7 years.

Insane!!!!!
Buy them!
Did you checked the current price of Corolla?
Time will tell if it's any good.
Lack of diesel engine can't be compensated by a huge step forward in terms of design.
Awaiting eagerly for launch of duster in india
