Defender costs so much, you wouldn't dare offroad it. You can buy 3 Dusters for the price of one Defender.

I off-road mine. And tow heavy trailers. It doesn’t have to be a status symbol, it can just be an ultra competent vehicle that happens to be rather nice.
The duster ain't as capable as the defender. I mean it doesn't even have a real 4x4 system. No low range and center locking diff. How do you think it can go against a defender? Would have considered if you talked about the Jimny, which is a real 4x4 with a low range.
@@GRcorolla-bt3mn It does have a center lock and first gear is so short you don't need low range. In on street driving you never need to use first gear because it's so short its useless on the road.
@@robertjunior8086 okay.......lmao, still this was an unfare test considering the duster was running on A/Ts and the defender was running on asphalt tyres. Also the duster has a 19:1 crawl ratio, same as a jeep compass, which also comes with a C/D. How can you say the duster to be more capable than most 4x4s in it's price with this logic? That's like saying the jeep compass is the most capable 4x4 considering it has a better Traction control (than the duster), 20:1 crawl ratio and a C/D.
Lol I have seen dusters struggle against my fortuner and my guy's shogun sport.
Just a pure fanboy stuff. Neither is it pure offroading.
Dacia is pretty decent. This is probably the most realistic it gets for regular drivers too. Most people aren’t gonna drive either their dusters, or 100k land rovers through worse terrain than this
Defender shows its capabilities heavier with out tyre's and manage to drive through with less effort uncomparable. Although duster is duster with 1/10 of the defenders price, is doing the job!!!!

Both cars are great offroad performers it just depends what do you need and do you need those things that make Defender more expensive. Dacia is great, I just love the fact that Dacia as a manufacturer grows and keeps getting better and better. Renault has done a great job with it and now Dacia begins to have that Romanian flavour, especially Duster, you can feel that Romanian wild landscape in it and that it will do what it needs to. Our (Croatian) Montain rescue service (HGSS) uses Dusters and anybody who was in Croatia hiking or mountaneering knows what kind of extreme terrains we have and that our MRS has one of the biggest number of interventions in EU. Also they use new Defenders :-) but just reacently. All in all what a great cars and more importantly - what a great nature! I just love this landscape and have decided - next mountaineering is in Romania, Brodina, right? Great job!

@Rey Skywalker From my experience with Dacia I have to say that it performs quite well on a motorway. Dashboard is made of hard plastic but it doesn't make any sound. However, since the plastic is hard and cheaper the overall sound isolation isn't as good as it could be but it becomes obvious only above 130-140 km/h. Gasoline engines can be very economical. All in all I drove Dacia on various roads including motorways and on high altitude and it is a good value for the money. Some elements are cheap, the body isolation isn't as good as on more expensive cars but that is why the price us lower. Hope this helped you. 👍
@Rey Skywalker Honestly, I think that Mitsubishi makes some great cars but not this one. It is not bad, it has it's advantages but it costs more than Duster and that difference in price is just too big. I love Mitsubishi but here I would go for Duster LPG. It just seem a better buy for that price range. Have thought about Toyota or Mazda? Because if you go for the most equipped Outlander they are right there - perhaps not with size but with everything else.
The Defender took those slopes like a champ despite the inappropriate tires. Duster remains impressive as always, one of the best not just for it's class.
I think the LR also sturggled due to it´s immense weight.
Almost no difficulty on these roads. Kid's stuff.
We refer to these roads in Australia as "fire trails". They're the roads you go on to GET to the 4x4 tracks.
We refer to this rouds in Greece as "high way".

La mía es 2000 centímetros, caja mecánica, la tengo hace varios años, es muy buena, no me ha fallado por nada, tiene 129000 kilómetros.
Lo único es que cada 5000 kilómetros más o menos me toca cambiarle las bieletas (las que lleva en cada rueda), porque generan ruido al dar giros, es lo único.
De resto me parece muy buen vehículo, además la 4x4, a pesar de no ser tan potente como los camperos, es muy buena porque realmente me ha sacado de terrenos difícil y en subidas duras.
Realmente recomiendo la duster 2000, aunque no es lujosa, es muy funcional y además tiene buena bodega.

Twice the fun everywhere this car! It does everything you ask it to as long as you don’t push it too far. Wanna go for a hike in the Carpathians ? The duster will take you there! Wanna see a cabin deep in the woods ? The duster takes you there! Wanna drift in sand ? The duster can do that too (trust me I know 😅)
Cheap, fun, decent aftermarket, and above all, Romanian as fuck.

Me encanta tu canal... Yo me compré en españa un Duster por tus vídeos. Ahora tengo el explore 4×4 TCE 150cv y estoy muy contento. Lo utilizo en los Pirineos catalanes con neumáticos general grabber at3 y son una pasada estas ruedas. Saludos muy grandes.

Nothing against the Duster but for the people saying how it’s equal to the defender (ironically here on all season tires and still competent) let’s see the Duster carry 2k lbs and tow 8k lbs. it’s a far superior car in every way as well it should be with the price difference

Actually I'm quite surprised, that despite all-season tires Defender managed to keep the pace of your Dacia on AT 4s. Anyway probably on steep and slick clay hill you would be able to climb, while Defender due to its weight and street-biased tires would not be able to tackle it...

nothing more than, totally agree with what fenoldaston wrote....high tech systems enabled almost impossible with street tires....still, even with much better grip and proper off road tires, Defender has one hindering feature compared with Duster, on steep very slippery/muddy terrain, that is - weight.
I drove on similar roads in FWD Skoda Ocatavia 1,9 TDI

I’ve just ordered a Duster but it’s an unfair comparison with the defender plus I feel the driver of this Landrover doesn’t really know what he is doing watch other videos on the defender and you will see just how capable it is I know however that I will be pleased with my Duster when she arrives

You get a lot of 4wd passability for the money from a Duster, therefore I have one that is used where needed! .
To be honest, from looking at your video, the Duster outperformed the Defender.
Respect. There were some very slippery slopes in that video.
The answer are the tires. You need to bring the cars to the environment where the wheels go in the air to really see their capabilities to tackle the terrain and compare the 4x4 system.To be truly objective , put the same tires on the cars. The defender has the differential locks, better articulation. In the more difficult terrain the duster would not be able to keep up. But I would take Duster for that price, it is excellent car. For the trips where you need higher ground clearance, good tires, 4x4.....it is just perfect.

Sorry, but where is off-road in the video? Almost any modern car with MT tyres can go in such conditions.
Land Rover have managed to make a bigger vehicle than my LR4, with less room on the inside. I'll stick with my V8 LR4, 33" tires, more cargo capacity room, better reliability and classic boxy looks.
If that's all we do with our 4 x 4's give me the duster.

Me gusta mucho el Duster, pero está claro que el Land Rover es muy superior pese a las torpezas intencionadas del piloto, los neumáticos de carretera y el manejo intencionado de la cámara. Finalmente te quedas con Land Rover. Se observa lo bien que funciona la atracción en ese vehículo, impresionante.🥰🥰🥰

The defender shows the problems with modern SUV's they all have stupid big wheels with low profile highway tyres. Trying to put AT/MT tyres on those rims would be pointless because you cant hardly deflate them without burping.

Defender will break down on its electronics in the end.
As an auto electrician I can duly inform you that Dacia/Renault electrics will disintegrate alot sooner than the landy will.
@@darhyland Oh really? Dacia is a very basic car that last for a long time, proven fact in Germany. New lists are around and Land/Range Rovers as usual on bottom of the list with break downs. I drove lots of French cars, in france you see 25-35 y old French cars still around. Daily on the road.

In 2 or 3 occasions it was off road, the rest of the tracks can easily be tackle with any 4x2 cars.

So it's not the horses 300 fiscal horses against 115 that make the franchisor mesh!!!, it's the good mechanics and technique of the 4x4 mode.
I'm not a "Land Rover" fanboy... But you have to give the Defender it's due, much heavier vehicle on all seasons !!! Against a lighter vehicle on AT's..... It was hardly a fair comparison.

No one forced defemder to be do heavy nad no one forced land Rover to mak it on sp huge rims. Duster have so much more simple 4x4 amd still performs better when it is stock. Duster also 3 times cheaper than defender. At tires on mud perform almost the same as all seasons tires...glued tread after one meter kf driving on mud and almost the same traction as all seasons
@@zepter00 fair point about the price differential... But the article was about it's off road capabilities... Not if one had: electric window, mirrors, air conditioning, cruise control.... etc.....
@@zepter00 as i know Duster doesn't come with that tyres from factory. As doesn't come with hi-lift suspension as the model on the video.
Also, that wasn't off road. Just some track with a bit of mud! Didn't see any crusing axles, rocks, obstacles, angles, and so on.

I don’t see the point of using the car in 4x2. I will just put more pressure on the clutch and I had enough of that 😅

Duster is good value for money but soft in the medium to long term…..
On many Dusters the gearbox and clutch take strain and breakdown at relatively low mileage. I know of several Duster owners suffering this fate.

both cars are very good. from dacia you habe more car for the ammount of the price. But if i drife with this car in this terrain i will use lessest S+M cover on the wheels for better gripp1

Let there be no doubt the Land Rover is the more desirable car. I rented the Dacia in Iceland, how this light car effortlessly tackles off-road surfaces and simply flies over bumpy gravel roads beggars belief. It’s cheap and plasticky and not a great car on tarmac.

@@DusterCoolTravels We have 3, 2017 Dusters on our hunting lodge and my personal vehicle was a 2021 Land Rover with only 12,000km on it when it caught fire while I was driving on the highway. That s how i know. Land Rovers are nice vehicles but their reliability and longevity sucks ass. Never will i buy one of their vehicles again.
This "competition" is absolutely unfair and without logical reason....what is the point thatccompetition between two categories of SUV.

In face of a LAND ROVER 90 second series or a LAND ROVER Commando or a LADA Niva ; the all two are dead . x)
The Dacia has a long wheelbase and a ground clearance that is too low, moreover the optional underbody protection equipment for the tank the crankcase and the differential, offered by the brand, are of poor quality, that does not protect anything. , so it will be necessary to see in after market to have the quality which protects the elements of under basement of the body.

Tanc adevărat. Garda de 35 cm pe cel mai înalt nivel, fel de fel de sisteme și parca s-a jucat la ieșirea asta 😅 speram sa îl prindem la o tura și pe zăpada iarna asta 😁
