      I have small wrists like 6.25 inches, the bambino is a bit big but wears fine because the lugs are shorter and it is just as wearable as most 38/39 mm watches I think you are just looking for an excuse not to buy a very nice dress watch at a very good price.

    Thanks for the very nice review. I have three Bambinos including this one. This is my favorite. It wears thinner than it is due to the domed crystal. On my wrist, the extra 1mm of thickness created by the see-through case back actually helps mitigate against my protruding wrist bone and I love being able to see the movement.

    Totally agree, it is chunky. They should drop the exhibition back, and the date. That might allow them to slim it down at least to 10mm. 38mm diameter would be better as well.

      Jeffrey Wood a smaller size, *20*mm lug width, no date, sapphire crystal, and drilled lug holes would make this a great watch for the price.

    Personally, it looks great, I would have omitted the date complication for a cleaner look improved look. Lets be honest tired older eyes likely cannot see it anyway and everyone is walking around with a personal computer in their pocket with every piece of information you could ever need to know. I think this one is my favorite Orient so a likely purchase in the not so distant future.

    I love the small seconds complication on a watch. This one is no different, and the rest of the dial is beautifully classic. However, the date window seems totally out of place and really kills the look of the watch. I'm also not in favor of the choice of handset, it just doesn't work. Thanks for a great review!

    • @davideyt1242
      @davideyt1242 2 года назад +1

      FYI- a "small seconds" is actually not a complication at all, the seconds are actually naturally being driven by the 4th wheel at the 6 o'clock position without any additional wheels, a center seconds hand however, is a "complication" since additional wheels and pinions are being added to the basic movement in order to move the natural position of the seconds hands into the center.
      I totally agree with your comment about the date window, in a dial layout such as this, either should be no-date, or move the date window somewhere else to keep the dial in "balance" (that is what some more expensive brands are doing)

Mechanical (not automatic), thin, simple, and slightly smaller in diameter than the Bambino. Better for dress on my 7.5” wrist. Need to see a Bambino small seconds Railroad version with big black arabic numbers on a white dial with secondary 24 hour red numbers and blue sword hands and a stainless band. This particular version shown does look a lot like my father's classic 1950's Bulova. the only way to make it better is to go to a 2-4-6-8-10-12 instead of the 3-6-9-12 numbered dial used.

    I've got the white dial small seconds and think it looks fantastic. Unlike you, it prompted me to get rid of an earlier Bambino, which was the cream dial with blue hands. Just felt like the small seconds was head and shoulders above the others in terms of classiness/attractiveness. Do wish it were smaller though -- 38mm would be ideal.

    You know I actually cancelled my order for the same Gen 2 V2 that you have but was told that it was ready for despatch as I was going to change my mind and get the champagne dial small seconds. Anyway it arrived. Upon opening the box, I thought to myself, I nearly missed out on this beauty of I were to have returned it. Its a stunning looking watch with the rose gold roman numerals, sweeping second hand and vintage looks. Now after seeing this video of the small seconds version and knowing I could have ordered it instead, I'm glad I got to open the box of the Gen 2. It's met every expectation I had. I know it'll be quite some time now before I look at getting another watch.

    A fine review. You should take a look at the golden Seiko Solar watch. It's small, slim, rectangular, classy, elegant - and quite accurate. It doesn't have a seconds hand nor a date indicator, though. (Personally, I don't mind.) I mention it because it has the advantage in terms of accuracy and size. And yes, it falls within the same price range as the 2nd generation bambino.

  • @pierremartin9048

    Just phenomenal value, even more so at the discounted rates as available at several quality online shops. Since I already have 2 Marlins (1 silver snoopy and 1 white Charlie Brown), I just bought, but yet to be received, Orient Star Classic in white to get slightly smaller diameter (though it’s pretty thick). Great vid, but do prefer the small seconds version to every other, it’s a layout I very much appreciate.

  • @ant28gauge

    I have one and like it a lot; not as much as my Orient Star with power reserve and 38mm case. I too think the case back was a mistake. Not only does it add height, it is also a snap back versus a screw back like on the other Bambinos. Snap backs are the worst. Extremely hard to open and close without leaving evidence. Great review!

    I love the design of the Bambino, but I'll never buy one simply because it's too big for a dress watch. If and when Orient ever made a 36-38mm Bambino, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

      @ret01101 5 лет назад

      I agree with the smaller size, adding that a 20mm lug with and no date would be a killer design. It is so simple. How can ignore this most of the watchmakers?? Unbelievable. Do they consider that 41-42mm potatoes are better? Ok, for Casio let it be 50mm, but for office time pieces smaller is better.

    This does look very much like the marlin. I fell in love with the looks of the quartz marlin and was excited when they released the automatic version. I was disappointed to see that it only had bar indicies and not the Arabic numerals. That was what I liked the most on the quartz version. Although this does not have the same art deco style numerals, I think I like the looks of this one more than either the quartz marlin or the auto. I don't really have much need for a dress watch, but if my willpower or lack there of caves I will consider a Bambino as I am a huge Orient fan. I own three Orients, I also have three Seiko watches that are similar to my Orients, but they never get the wrist time that my Orients get. I am sure my willpower will eventually fold and I will get a bambino. Its just a matter of which model. As usual the review was great and very informative. Thanks for your work and your passion.

    I'm a fan of a small seconds hand; it looks like a vintage watch, which I like. However, I agree that the thickness steals back some of the vintage vibe. Orient has always been a little thicker in most cases and I think a small seconds hand requires an additional reduction gearset and that likely adds height. I dunno, pros and cons. I too like v2, but don't like Roman numerals. None of these are perfect, so I'll compromise a little with any choice.

    Orient’s website lists this as having the same height as a normal Bambino: 12mm

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 лет назад +1

      I know, but I can't tell you first hand they aren't. Sometimes I think they measure the case height itself and don't account for the caseback. I'm working on my Orient Triton (Neptune) review and it has a similar issue. The height without the caseback is what Orient reports, but with it's about .7mm taller.

    Tell them amateurs @ orient to remove that disrupting date window and also get rid of the caseback nobody really cares since it ruins the thickness of the watch. There u go, decent vintage looking watch there! Thanks!

      I think they are planning a 36mm version, but so far I haven't seen anything about a no date one. Would be a good idea.

    I've always loved the ascetics of the Bambino line, but a couple things have always kept me from purchasing. # 1 - It's too big. A classically styled dress watch should be in the 36-38mm range. # 2 - Those darn 21mm lugs. In a moment of weakness, I could almost go for the 40.5mm size, but what are they thinking with those lugs!!! Despite my near 8 inch wrists, I wear a 38mm Hamilton Intra-matic 3-4 days a week, so I'll admit, I'm very jaded.

    • @Ferien7
      @Ferien7 5 лет назад

      Scott Lynch don't buy it. There are no high quality straps of 21mm width that would work well with the bambino

    You can't swap the casebacks. One is snap-in (the little second one), the others are screw-down.

    Orient Bambino V2 (Rose Gold Roman Numerals) or the Orient Blue Dial Open Heart?? Which one do you think is. better choice. Please help

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  4 года назад

      Both nice, but I'd go with the V2. Never been a huge fan of open heart watches, but more because the V2 design is a bit different then most dress watches out there. Has more of a vintage look then a clean bauhaus design.

    I've always like this particular model. It's just that date window execution. Always bothers me. It does interrupt an other wise clean and symmetrical dial design. I really would have preferred they omit the window if not for a future version of the small seconds.
    12.5mm thickness is not that bad. But agree it would have been better with lesser thickness.
    As with the 21mm lug space.. it's not that big a deal. As with watches with 19mm. Just squeeze in the next common strap size of 22mm which most of us have or can more easily get if a 21mm option is not available. I would still opt to get a 22mm since I could double its use with other watches I have with 22mm.

    I've got this same ORIENT AP0003S BAMBINO. I just wish Orient would make this one without the date complication and 38-39 instead of 40.5mm in diameter. Then they would really be spot on, 'vintagewise'.
    However I do agree that this is one of their best looking dress watches. I wouldn't have bought it if I felt otherwise.
    Thank you for, again, a nice review (I got here looking for Vostok reviews, just bought the 420270, with the 'clean bezel': love it)

      Thanks, glad you found the channel. Orient has released a 36mm version for women, but I think men could wear it just as easily. Haven't seen one in person yet, but looks good.

    I don't know, this Bambinos just doesn't do for me... To large (38 is a sweet spot for dress watch), odd lug width etc. The version 2 with roman numerals is the only one that (partialy) makes my adrenalin flow...

    • @RelativeTime
      @RelativeTime  5 лет назад +1

      Supposedly a 36mm bambino is out, or coming out. So migh try to find one sometime. But I'm going to be looking more towards 38mm and seiko for the next couple dress watches I do.

    Nice 👍🏼. If it was a 20mm lug, a Safire crystal, and a 50 meter depth rating it would be perfection of course the price would go up with those features.
    You should keep them both 😁
