By far the best value for money dress watch I've ever come across. My first automatic was a bambino. They are the perfect watch to get people in to mechanical watches. I have nothing but appreciation for Orient moving in this direction.

I actually bought the older one recently in cream! I prefer the thinner case size. I looked everywhere for a nice dress watch and nothing really caught my eye like this Bambino, and at $130, it felt like a purchase that had little to no financial pressure. It's unique in its value proposition, it is truly very well finished and beautifully made, I have watches costing multiples of the price not matching up to the finishing of this one. I actually really enjoy the leather strap after the breaking in period, it just floats on the wrist comfortably.

It was previously made in 36mm - just not "hyped" or marketed as much as this new 38mm. To me 36 is much better for this style of watch. Unfortunately, Orient made it with 17mm lug width and aimed/marketed them as women's watches (not that it matters to me, but it surely didn't help them getting the deserved recognition). I own two, got two custom made leather straps, and love them :) Also bought them at under 200 bucks each.

For a 38mm dress watch, it's still the value leader. Most dress watches in the price range are either 40-41mm with most Seiko Presage models, too petite in most cases with a manual wind Timex Marlin, some Ali Express watches (and even then they're mostly too big for a dress watch), or a hit-or-miss vintage non-luxury brand piece. The nearest 38mm dress watch offerings are some of Seiko's newer cocktail times (although tbh the recent ones look too ostentatious with their dial design), and the SRPD97/99 at double the price. For a traditional, no-nonsense, currently manufactured dress watch for under 300 USD, that 38mm Bambino is indeed still king.

To me the craziest thing about the bambino movement is not so much the price, but how easily it gets going. When my bambino has no power in it’s reserve, even the slightest movement or turn of the crown will instantly get it going again. Hard to explain but it is so much different than my other watches that need a few shakes.

I've notice that too on my Orient Kamasu diver with the F6922 movement as compared to my Seiko baby turtle with the 4R35B. The Seiko needs more turn to get the movement to move as compared to the Orient. I think the Orient movement is just much more efficient. When both movements had stop and I wear it for a day at work (~10hrs) on different day, the Orient always lasted longer than the Seiko when both are laid to rest.

I just received my 38mm Bambino this week. I have to say it seemed small compared to the 40.5 mm that I have been wearing for about 6 months. After wearing it for 5 days (a full business week in the office), I am now convinced that this size is ideal, not only on the wrist, but in appearance. The proportions are just right, with the slightly smaller diameter and the narrower hour marks, it looks and feels just right.

I recently bought both the 38mm bambinos shown in the video, from the Orient website. For me the cream dial is about +30 seconds a day, the white/silver dial is about +15 seconds (measuring against GPS time after 24 hours). Not that I mind! I wish the black strap was polished or had a gloss to it. It looks a bit dull and uninteresting. The cream dial brown strap I think looks great and has a nice sheen to it.The straps are a bit stiff and plastic feeling to start with, but they do improve after some breaking in and become much more comfortable. Bend them with the fingers a bit and wear them in.
I got the silver dial first. I was expecting the dial to be white as per the Orient website description, but it is silver upon close inspection, still love it though. I will say that the cream dial is beautiful and has completely out done the silver dial. I'll still wear it with my tuxedo to match the leathers and clean/classy look, but the cream dial will be worn a lot more.
These are my first forray into mechanical watches, and I told myself that with these two, I'd have a watch for any occasion and won't need anymore. I'm already eyeing up Kuoe watches now and waiting for them to come back in stock. What have I gotten myself into 👀?

I already have the 40.5mm beige gen.2, ver.2 but I also gotta have the white dial of this 38mm. It simply looks great. I just wish that the crystal is at least made of sapphire crystal as its shape makes it really prone to scratches. For its pricepoint I could understand why it doesn't have that but considering that some of their diver's collection have sapphire crystal I would also like to see the same with their dress watches.

My (Orient) Grand Prix Almighty 64 came out in 1962. Top of the Orient range in its day, its width of 38.5mm showed it knew the future. With just the one complication (date), it sets the scene for the Bambinos that came much later.
Yes, I still wear my Grand Prix every day. Currently losing about 6 seconds a day. I'll take that after 60 years..

I got my Bambino Gen 2 V2 (cream dial, blued hands) for 135 Euros and put it on a 21 mm Vollmer milanaise bracelet. Actually the bracelet itsself is 20 mm, but it´s mounted to a 21 mm tubes that hold the spring bars. Works beautifully.
Nevertheless, it´s good to see that the model range is developing further and I can´t wait to see more style variants coming out.

I have 2 Bambinos and although I don't wear them a ton (because I rarely have occasion to wear a dress watch) that are extremely pleasant. I do kind of take issue with the constant slamming of the straps. When I bought my first one I bought another strap before the watch even arrived, because everyone said how bad the strap was.
On receiving the watch, I wore it for a few days and my impression was: The strap really isn't that bad! It's a little stiff and it's just a faux textured leather, but it's well constructed and durable. If you just break it in by wearing it a while, you might just find it endearing (as I did).
Leather watch straps wear out pretty quickly if worn a lot, so if that's you; you'll be on to a replacement in no time anywayz!

Concur with your point regarding the presage. It's been one watch I've wanted for so long but is too big for my wrist. 38mm is my sweet spot, on the edge at 39mm but anything 40mm and above is a write off for me.

Picked one of these up a couple of weeks ago, finally a properly sized and proportioned Bambino. Gaining one second a day out of the box, which is more than I can say for the $750 Seiko Prospex Alpinist I got at the same time which has gone from gaining 2 seconds a day out of the box to gaining 40 seconds.

Get a good watch maker to take a look and hopefully fix it. I just got a Grand Seiko SBGM 221. It was immediately picking up eight seconds a day. I took it back to the AD. Their watchmaker took it for about half an hour, and since then it’s been about one second a day slow.

Im honing in on this Orient Bambino as my first entry-level dress watch. Now Im trying to decide on the white or off-white face.

Yeah, something about the big-face watch trend just makes them look cheap and gawdy like the department store brands (Fossil, etc.) This was a good move for Orient. I just want something that looks like my grandfather's watch, if that makes sense. Classy, sensible, reliable.
