I picked up the cream model online from a store in Tokyo (got to love free shipping to the US!) It looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. It does a very nice job of capturing that vintage vibe, and it is a very nice choice for business casual attire. The inclusion of the date just means it is a good choice for everyday wear as well. If you like early 1960's dress watches this is a good one to check out.
I own several models of Orient Bambino, 40mm V3, V2, and a 38mm Gen 1. I wear it during meetings or formal occasions and I must say: it always, Always become a conversation starter for me because people can't help but appreciate it.
in the seventies when i was just a kid orient watches were famous among my family members with other swiss brands like jovial that no one hears about now , that design is so nostalgic to me .
I'll never forget that you were the one who made me really first fall in love with automatic/mechanical watches when I first started getting into watches when I was in college. My first ever auto/mechanical watch was the Orient Bambino and it was an expensive journey ever since 😂 I think Orient nailed the perfect Bambino (finally) after many iterations with the roman numerals and small seconds to give the watch a little more personality than a super classic boring dress watch.
@@scrhunter3901Check out the Japanese microbrand Kuoe. They have about eight different vintage styles. They are small cases though. Only one style in 38 mm. The others are 35 mm. The design is elegant, simple, and beautiful. I think teddy has spoken highly of them also. Hope this helps.
After 2 years and 3 other watches owned, the Bambino open heart is still my favorite and most worn watch. This thing kicks way above its price point for sure.
Teddy, I think during your early days you made a video about watches to wear in your wedding. I think many of us would appreciate if you remake that video, with so many new options available. Please make one that covers almost every main pricepoint, thanks man.
A lot of people are complaining about that date window. But i don’t mind it. I see this watch as a simply dressy and practical office watch. And i have been countless times checking the date on my date-less watches.
Picked up a MAMACOO's watch as my first watch last month and I’m absolutely in love with it. Perfect size, looks elegant, very comfortable. Now my only problem is holding off from buying more watches so quickly!
I bought this watch out of adoration for the Bambino alone even though I neither need it nor wear it often. This is my third Bambino. I love how the minute hand is curved to point to the minute markers.
I recently picked up a watch with a small seconds hand and I can say that I much prefer a standard seconds hand even though the small hands makes dials look pretty interesting
You read my mind. Been considering replacing my 4th gen for one of these 38mms for the past weeks. Also had the 2nd gen years ago. Love the 38mm gold plated one. Bambinos are def best value in watches amongst SKXs and some seiko 5s.
Just got my bambino. Came to know about the watch through this channel only. Thanks a lot teddy. It is a beautiful watch. Hard to get one in india. A friend from japan got it. Mine is a gen 2 40mm doesn't look that big on my wrist. Have a prx which too is 40mm. Also the long hand version feels better than the small hand. Small seconds hand doesnt look very traditional when it comes to a dress watch. A no nonsense dress watch is what bambino is all about. And I feel the small seconds hand is a little modernization
WOW I love the look of the black and silver one. Maybe if the seconds hand was a matching silver too. Also I'm excited to see where this stubble leads!
This model dad gift to me on my bday last oct 2021 love it and still got it wearing it occasinally thanks Teddy for this video watching from philippines🇵🇭
The 38mm was a good move. Always loved that watch and the size was the only thing holding me. The perfect bambino would be one with the Kuoe Royal Smith specs (saphire, wr100 screwdown, chronometer like cheap movent, 35mm, no date) but with the current curved dial. And in gold and platinum special editions :)
Suggestion: when making a video of a re-issue or an updated version of a watch, it would be really helpful if the new and yhe old watch were shown next to each other, plus on a wrist. Thanks a lot for the video with great shots!
I would like to see the bambino line start to offer options with sapphire crystals like they have with some of their other dress pieces and divers. A bump up to 50m WR would be nice too. That being said, I really love all of the bambino generations and the small seconds 38mm is my favorite so far. I’m having a hard time picking my favorite. It’s between the black dial and the cream.
I thought dateless watches were cool too, till I got one and realized just how frequently I checked for the date, only to have to pull out my phone. I agree there are watches where the date window throws off the balance of the dial, but if well executed, there’s nothing unbalanced about them. Would have liked to have seen a cream colored date wheel on the cream colored dial. That one looks a bit off, but the white on white or black on black are very well balanced. Can’t have a date at 6 with the small seconds on this watch, but that’s a great place for a date window.
While a color matched date wheel would be lovely, I’ve seen models from brands like Patek that don’t have them. At this price point, it’s a compromise I’m more than happy to make
We all love the gen 2 Bambino. I was hoping for a smaller gen 2 Bambino, and/or a smaller Bambino small seconds, but I don't feel the combo works. Why keep the railroad seconds track around the dial when you have a small seconds? It just makes the dial too cluttered. I think I'll just opt for the 38mm standard Bambino.
You said “railway”and I was thinking the same thing. I have a late 40’s Hamilton railway special and this watch made me think of that. I would like this better with more of that look, especially the number font and have them painted on. I think white numbers on black dial would be nice. I hate Roman numerals. I don’t care for alligator strap. I like a date window. I like the blue hands on the cream dial.
I always liked the vintage vibe of the roman numerals on the previous models, but the size was not ideal for me. This release is just what I waited for (for a long time), and I bought the watch instantly for about $230. Ive had it for a while now, havent got that much wrist time because of the "dressier" style, but when I use it, man it feels and looks great!!
How anyone could not appreciate this brand is beyond me. Wearing their B dial flieger as I type. Noticed something at the 5:45 mark, is Orient making some of their movements (e.g. the 6222) in Thailand, or casing some of their watches there? Honestly, as much as I love the quality and consistency that comes with “made in Japan”, it would be pretty cool if Thailand were stepping into the biz, too. Just curious. Nevermind, 6:00 cleared that up. lol
Thanks for the nice review Teddy! I think I actually prefer the version 7 (38.4mm) or the 40.5mm small seconds version. Not a big roman numerals fan. The addition of dateless options would be appreciated, but I recognize that this might not be financially wise for Orient.
Great watch for the money/collection. Also a great video as usual. I would love to see a dial diameter measurement in addition to case dimensions with watch reviews 😎. Especially given the on-line market.
I love the general aesthic and especially at this price point. That said, I personally would pay extra for a deployant clasp (I got one on my Kuoe in Kyoto for an extra few bucks), a sapphire crystal and while I don't mind the date window, I would prefer the background to the date color match the dial color so it's not a jarring (and that may blunt the concerns for those who flat out don't like the date complication on these). Still, and amazing pretty and functional automatic watch at an astounding price point.
I bought a Bambino Version 7 black dial last year 😮 but this silver small seconds dial really makes it pop 🤨 now I have a problem as I save money for two watches on my list, the Seiko SPB121 and the Hamilton Intra Matic Chronograph Panda, Orient dangles yet another carrot 🤔😵💫😎
Thank you for your knowledge sharing, I always look forward for your videos. I want to know more of Rotary watches, mean about the company and their watches. Can you please help.
I knew there was something oddly busy about it but couldn't quite put my finger on it ... That's it , in fact the outer scale needn't be there either , cost cutting measure or really bad oversight ?
Have the black dial one. Luckily a good friend of mine Rohan was on tour to Japan and got from there. Sadly he was saying even in Japan the distribution is awful for the orients.

I have a quartz chrono Bambino that I bought when I first got into watches and at that time knew nothing about watches. I was disappointed when I received it and I have hardly ever worn it since. Tried to sell it for peanuts with no luck, because who would want a Bambino with quartz movement, chrono, an off white dial and a massive 22mm lug width, and a stiff as cardboard “leather” strap. I like it, particularly the black version. But personally, it’s not for me. I own a cream dial 38mm Bambino, which I was drawn to because of the vintage aesthetic and minimalist dial. In fact, I’d prefer a no date variant.
That's intresting. I always wondered why watch manufactures deliberately created a new roman numeral for 4 (IV) by using IIII. I guess I'm just too uncultered to see an increase in symetry though, and I'll still skip models with that symbol, but at least I can understand what they were attempting to accomplish, and I guess some people see it. I'm just not one. It's a design choice I would have made differently, especially since it breaks symetry with using V at 6, 7, and really even X at 9 or 10.
I own the watch and I have to say it is wonderful. My only complain is the strap, its a little bit squishy, it feels like its just bit too big for the 20mm.
Another version of the Bambino could be a manual wind with reduced thickness without a seconds hand and date complication. Or a minimalist Bauhaus-like dial design.
I bought a Bambino online and I have to say it looks way better in person. It looks great in the pictures, but the pictures fail to do it justice. Also, I am 6’-3” with wrists of 8 1/2”. Keep making 40mm cases and bigger straps!

That date window kills it so bad. Atleast a silver ring around it would have made it a bit better but that window is what I dislike in my orient small seconds.
I really like the V2 regardless of price. I am just worried that servicing will be challenging after 10 years or so. I don't think you can own them for a lifetime like you can with more expensive swiss watches.

How I wish they will create a no date version, gold case, with champagne dial. Stick markers would also be great and keep it below 38mm.

I discovered Orient when I was in Japan this year. I'm now hooked on them. They're affordable and such good build quality. Love them!
One of the many reasons that makes Teddy the GOAT is he does videos on all watches, luxury and affordable. This Bambino is such a gorgeous watch.
