I could care less about power, a lot of people say that this car has intoxicating handling and a usable and nice sounding rev range. There is only so much power you can use on a daily street, and if you own a powerful car, you barely get to experience the higher rev range until you hit a back road or an on ramp on a highway. This is usable power, that's why I want this car.
I wouldn't do it. Its a wannabe sportscar, a Golf V with 200hp 2.0 TFSI GTI beats it around the track, and especially on the straight. If you want a fun light car, get a cheaper Miata.
TheMiky1304 it's your money mate you don't have to buy a golf or mx5, miatas a stupid name, I'd encourage anyone to go for the 86, I found it more enjoyable when I booked a test drive than the mx5, a more comfortable ride too. My inner ricer also screams out it looks better too.But hey don't listen to others opinions, go Test drive a bunch of cars, and choose which feels best to you, not to others.
Well, you americans got the reworked FA20 engine with 205 HP with the facelifted model, while we're still getting the same old phase1 engine with 200 HP instead! I know 5 HP doesn't sound like a crazy amount of improvement power-wise but it's the middle range that really makes the difference (around 15-20 HP). In addition you're also getting a shorter final gear (4.3:1 ratio), which also helps on the acceleration department, while we still get the taller old one (4.1:1). I'd love to see these improvements come to the european models as well... I mean, it's not fair, c'mon Toyota...
@@tomasmalin after 3 years, have you owned one?? I'm also a student and in 3 years I'm getting a bachelor's. By then I hope to own this car. Just wanna know if u made it to get this car coz I'm so excited.
DLLO Eiv can't argue that my brother. Thankful have family that works at Honda. Just still can't see my self paying even discounted for something simple. Fun car to drive though just wish for more power
@@Elite328 I mean, sure an Ecoboost Mustang of about the same price is a bit quicker and faster, but it doesn't handle as well. I think it's priced fair for what it is.
Is it just me or are you sitting way to close to the steering wheel? 0:43 you could've taken that corner way easier if you would sit just a little more to the back
It's just you. 🙂 Honestly, I have seating position problems in most Toyota's. When the seat position is right for my legs, my body is too close to the steering wheel.
They are totally different... The Clio is a bit more of a showoff car due to the crackles and pops sound of the exhaust. The GT86 offers a more "pure" driving experience, it's just RWD, a (real) manual gearbox and a steering wheel, the electronics are not interfering all the time.
I'm still on my clio 172 from 2003 and I can't convince myself to spend all this extra for a bit better driving position and one extra gear. New 86 costs ten times more than used 172 (35k € vs 3.5k €), that serves me without any issues and I'd still need to dump extra 3 grand for UEL headers, cat-back, remap and a rear camera/parking sensors, to make the 86 usable. That's 38k for a car, that should cost 20-25k € max. I wish I could rent the 86 for a day, maybe that would convince me. But 172 is still so much fun with the KTR intake, it's almost illegal. It can carry four passengers and it's much more practical in city/parking situations with visibility all around. Little dents and bumps from parking lots? Who cares, it's already depreciated.
I love this car but still like the looks on the pre-facelift front bumper SO MUCH better. I have to say the new one looks better in person than on pictures/vids, but still...
I think 300 would already be enough. The nice thing about the 200 hp though, is that you can always floor it without taking too much risk of breaking speed limits.

Jeremy S. People who say this car isn't powerful enough simply are driving on roads that are too straight.
I know i'm not the only person who had wet dreams about this car
Good video mate, wonderful car, i hope one day i can buy one.

Awesome video! This is exactly what I was looking for! Keep it up!
Thank you for the feedback!
The whole intro to the video makes me feel like I am a giraffe driving a car
Well, it's actually a tiny car
Beautiful car

tofufregit this is true
I want it...I want it so badly.
Buy it, it ain't that expensive!
Not cheap either for a student. :D ...but who knows, I could get a used one in a few years!
A used one would be a great option!
tomasmalin I'm a student too in the Philippines :( will graduate soon :( and still can't afford it :(

thats the first 86 iv seen with an arms rest there over the cup holders. nice vid btw :D
tungiesama Right?! And also the push button start?
Maybe because this is the 2017 facelift version? I never drove the pre-facelift, so I don't know the differences.
thats because this isn't the US version I believe they all have push button start over seas
we didn't get one in our review car, but it does seem like its an option given how the drink holders are removeable
Nice car!!! 😍
I would love to drive and have one of the Toyota GT86 I really really like them
Great Video!
Nice ! What wearable camera you used in thus video ?
Man I want it too
Just wish it honestly a bit more power. Not asking for 400 but maybe 245 or 250
DLLO Eiv can't argue that my brother. Thankful have family that works at Honda. Just still can't see my self paying even discounted for something simple. Fun car to drive though just wish for more power
DLLO Eiv the more light weight the car is the more expensive it becomes.
Alexander Vasquez mod it yourselves then

Did they add that ... flip... cover over the cup holders for the 2017? Or was it aftermarket?
Nothing on this car was aftermarket

Since you have driven both cars, how would you compare the GT86 with the Clio RS Trophy?
They are totally different... The Clio is a bit more of a showoff car due to the crackles and pops sound of the exhaust. The GT86 offers a more "pure" driving experience, it's just RWD, a (real) manual gearbox and a steering wheel, the electronics are not interfering all the time.
Thanks man, I'm getting the Clio in a month so I am very curious about it.

Does the 300ZX tT runs moar than this beauty?
I have no idea. I never drove the 300ZX
Is the push button start a featue now?
What color was this 86?
So, he sat in the back with relative ease, why are idiot always saying its impossible to put people in the back? sigh*
Like everything about this car except its looks. Great video.
I think it looks fantastic!
I love this car but still like the looks on the pre-facelift front bumper SO MUCH better. I have to say the new one looks better in person than on pictures/vids, but still...
pre facelift is a lot nicer, looks like its got little fangs :P
Could an 18 year old with 1 years ncb and a pass plus insure the gt86? In the UK thanks

can you drive a Toyota land cruiser please...I would love to watch it
or 350
Mate ! You need lots of to learn !
The irony..
I learn every day
the ae86 was better :^)
Why they dont make a model with 1600 cc engine diesel ? pitty for toyota ......
Noooo! Please, no diesel in this ;)
they should increase to 400 hp
I think 300 would already be enough. The nice thing about the 200 hp though, is that you can always floor it without taking too much risk of breaking speed limits.
I think you should own one or at least drive one before you have an opinion.
Then the price would increase to starting at 35,000 with a completely different competition.
No they shouldn't.
200hp? LOOOOOOL
