Recapping because it keeps coming up. It was a day or two before moving so I had no tools or accessories available to assist with this project. I did need this roof rack to help hold items during the move. What I used is what was available after the movers picked up our household goods. Thank you all for the comments in advising others on more efficient and practical ways of completing this project. Your feedback and comments are what make this DIY community the best and help people save exponential amounts of money. Thank you for your time and efforts, have a great day!
Thank you very much.....this was a big help. One suggestion is to use clamps and a bandsaw/reciprocating/multi/jig saw instead of the (edit) snips to get a clean cut on the track.
suggestion from another video: Use a small piece of cardboard under the screwdriver to protect the paint from chipping or scratching. Thanks for this video.
Pretty good install video. Only thing I would add (lol) is to use a rag or clothe of sorts to lay on the car while you use a screw driver to pop cover off in order to protect your brand new paint job. You can buy the trim removal kit at Harbor Freight for 10$ or less. But great job being careful with that screw driver. You’re a brave man my friend lol.
Your link for the Amazon Roof Rails goes to a part that indicates it does not fit the 2018 (08L02-TK8-100), and it does not match the part number at the hondapartsstore link (08L02-THR-100). Are you certain about the part number at the Amazon link?
so the amazon link you provided is not compatible with a 2018. is that a typo? also, for future use, honda e-store is $100 more expensive than other online OEM store. check out hondapartsnow.com, hondapartsnetwork.com or hondapartscheap.com for better prices.
I did the same with amazon but that link is for the 2011-17 model. I cross checked on all of the 3 sites I mentioned on my previous comment plus on e-store the OEM part number is 08L02-THR-100 for black and 08L02-THR-100A for chrome. Lastly, cutting the black top liner would be easier with a dremel tool. That’s what I used when I installed it on my 2014.
Are the crossbars adjustable? We bought an Odyssey with this already installed but it won’t work with our old roof carrier...I need to shorten the distance but it appears I cannot due to the fact there are pre determined holes in the side rails...thanks for your help and great video!
Distance between the inside edges of the two bars is approx 2' 2 1/2"". Roof to bar on the outside is approx 2 1/2". The space does get higher in the middle but I currently have a cargo box up top so I can't measure there. Bars are about 2 1/2" wide as well.
08L02-THR-100 is the new part (black) for the railing. If you decide to go with Thule for the crossbar, you will need: Thule Wingbars Evo 150Model number 711500 and Thule Rapid CrossroadModel number 450R
What is the distance between the two crossbars? and what is the height from the bar to the roof? I am trying to figure out if my current cargo box will fit. Thanks!

Anyone know if you can get raised roof rails for a 2020 jeep grand Cherokee? Right now it has the flush rails but i have an existing roof rack that needs raised rails. I just cant find raised roof rails to put on my jeep.
These crossbars are not adjustable & sit too far to the front of the vehicle. When the cargo carrier is placed on top, it is nearly impossible to reach by standing on the back bumper, as it sits too far forward on the van. A huge waste of $500 & the dealership never mentioned that these are not able to be adjusted.
seriously, Dude, a screw driver against a car's finish? Never, never, never. They sell a super cheap vinyl/plastic pry tool set at frigg'n harbor freight. Please don't tell people to do that. re-shoot with right tools.
Thank you! This helped me realize it was no big deal to do it myself!

This is a great video, covering every detail. I appreciate the resourcefulness and a lot of good tips in the comments. Thanks.
Great video - thanks! I used a bike tire lever to avoid paint scratch and a jig saw to cut the rails.
Thanks for your input, that probably would have been much easier.
Great passion and spirit to make this video ! Very helpful too !

thanks for your tips and explanations just wondering will there be any chance to have leakage because you touched seal around screws ?
No leaks up to this point
You can also use a cloth tape measurer (like those used for clothing). Each CM=10MM...
Thank you. This video made it easy to install. Excellent job
My kit doesnt come with those channels at the back. Is it okay to install this roof rack without it? Thanks for the help.
Great video. Just in time too. Installed our roof rack the day after it posted. Thank you.
Bro those channels at the back of the moulding is it okay if i dont put it? Thnks
good video. very helpful.
thanks
Will this work with 2017 Honda Pilot EX? I was told to put roof rails they need to drill holes, so I am hesitant getting it done and costly.
when installing a roof rail and crossbars on a 2014 honda odyssey, do holes need to be made in the roof? Or can the existing holes be used?
I'm not sure about the install process for a 2014
About how long does it take from start to finish?
Would you recommend thread locker on any of the bolts?
Thread locker definitely wouldn't hurt. Ours are still tight over a year later and with multiple long range road trips.

Thanks for the feedback, I've updated the link to (08L02-TK8-102) which shows compatible with 2018.
Thank you for this video. Is it the same specification for 2019 Honda Odyssey?
They are the exact same van.
what is the height of the cross bars?
We sold this car a few years back, I can't provide this information, sorry.
Why would you use snips when something calls for a saw? Use a hacksaw and you won't have the problem that you absolutely smashed the stripping.

That could be a typo, Amazon showed me that it was compatible when I linked it. I bought off of the estore. Please let me know if see the correct one.

Hi, do you know if this kit works on the 2018 Honda Pilot?
I'm not sure if it is compatible with the 2018 honda pilot.

Unfortunately, they are not adjustable.
DIY with Chris Home Projects what is the distance between the rails? Would you mind measuring?
The crossbars don’t seem to tighten enough and still move a bit, is this normal or what so the solution?
Mine did not move after I tightened them down. Possibly crossthreading or just a faulty piece.
@@DIYwithChris I just needed to keep going, I was worried about stripping it, but I was just a turn from being done. Thanks.
link you posted says it only fits up to 2017 model... is that right?
The link is updated.
Any idea how similar this might be to a 2012 crv model?
I'm not sure if this is Cross compatible or how similar it would be.
@@DIYwithChris okay. Thanks for the reply.
Where can I buy this?
What is the height of the rail and crossbars after installation? Thanks!

The part linked (08L02-TK8-100) is NOT compatible with 2018 Odyssey, have to return mine. I think 08L02-THR-100 is, but did not verify yet.
Thanks for the update, please let me know which one is correct so I can update it.
@@DIYwithChris What was the product code of the one you used in the video?
08L02-THR-100 is the new part (black) for the railing.

For just a couple dollars you can buy trim removal tools. Scaring me with that screwdriver.
tin snips? Really? Spend $20 for a hacksaw and cut them clean. Jeeze right tool for the right job
Or a jig saw, or a 10 $ harbor freight cut off angle grinder...
He was in the process of a move and had many of his tools packed away. That is why he needed the roof rack for the move. MOVING ON UP!

You missed the pinned comment explaining the situation. Have a great day.
Screwdriver on the paint? You have no clue what you're doing.
