  • I added roof rails and cross bars to my Honda CR-V. Really simple project and anyone can do it. I would recommend doing it to any Honda CR-V just because it makes the vehicle look sportier and gives you the ability to store items on top of the car.

    Great video, instructions were right on target and made this project super simple! I think 20 mins from start to finish after watching your video. I appreciate the time you took to make this video.
    I deviated from your instructions in 2 areas that might be of interest to others looking to do this project. 1) The 4" cut point ended up right on top of the last clip before the windscreen. I was worried the weather stripping wouldn't have enough support and would flap or bend when at highway speeds. So I was careful to not fully destroy that clip and moved my cut line back behind the clip (toward the tailgate). The clip uses a slip tab to be secured, so I just slide the clip to align with the wider portion of the opening so the clip would sit flush with roof. It's a real pain to lock it back in - tough to slide the clip with the weather striping down in place. But the clip provided plenty of support under the rack. No issues with the additional length of the weather striping, it just ended up under the rack. 2) I just used a regular hack saw to make the cuts. If someone's worried about dinging their car with a power saw the hack saw worked just fine - 30 seconds to cut through.

    I found a Dremmel tool with a metal cutting blade worked just as well as a sawzall. It was rather quick too!

    Man… thanks much for this tutorial! Really appreciate the details that you shared. Just concluded mine and it looks great - even more so as Honda quoted 600 bucks for the service. Tip for other friends: I used a dremmel with reinforced disks to cut the original rail…

    Great vid, thx! Do you know the measurement from the shark-fin antenna to the rear crossbar? I plan to install a ham radio antenna before I can budget for my roof rails and want to make sure I hard mount it between the gap so it doesn’t interfere with the rear crossbar when I get my rails. Thx in advance!

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  11 месяцев назад +1

      You’ve got roughly 1 foot in between the rear rail and the antenna. Not too much room but enough to where I would say another antenna would fit there fine.

    For cutting how about just using a dremel with a cutoff wheel? Less likely to slip and damage the car with a saws all?

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  2 месяца назад

      That's definitely an option if you have one! Just make sure the cutoff wheel can cut metal. I did not have one at the time I made the video or I probably would have used a dremel.

    Thanks for the video. So, it seems to me like there is no need to worry about leakage when it rains, right?

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  4 месяца назад

      As far as I know, that is correct. These vehicles have those built in valleys under the roof rails in order for the water to drain. I can honestly say I have had no issues with leakage.

    @bossadamsgarage Great video! I've been wanting to this to my 2020 CRV and I would have never known about needing to cut that metal trim piece before installing the rails.
    How noisy are those OEM cross bars? I've seen some reviews of third party ones that whistle and I'm trying to avoid that.

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  Год назад +1

      To me, the cross bars are not noisy. Now, you will get the wind noise when you put on a bag or roof rack but it wasn't terrible. I would suggest going with the OEM rails and cross bars because I actually returned 2 sets of rails and bars becuase it wasn't going to fit the car how I would want it.

    Apologies if it’s been answered already but what brand / model of roofbox did you go with? I have installed same roof bars but my old roofbox hits off the shark fin antenna. Thanks

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  Месяц назад +1

      I'm not sure if I answered that or not. Here is the link for the rack I purchased - amzn.to/45qpdK9. This is the dry bag I got to go with it as well - amzn.to/4bWNYjS. Both of these in combo worked perfectly for our family trip and it is close but it did not touch our shark fin antenna.

    Is there a gap or a proper seal on the outer edge of the rail against the car? I just got to the bolting part on my rail the gasket doesn’t cover the gap. Not sure how to fix that or if it’s not an issue? The inner side has the gasket extending into the car which is why I’m concerned

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  2 месяца назад

      I'm not sure what you're refering to without looking at it but I know the Honda rails I purchased covered the gap completely and were flush when I installed them.

    • @bossadamsgarage

      I try to stay as close to factory as I can. Sometimes when you veer from OEM or OEM like products, the quality isn't what it needs to be.

    Does anyone know if the process for a 2024 crv would be different??

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  2 месяца назад +1

      I haven't looked at a 2024 in person to tell, but I would assume the process is fairly similar if the model did not come with the rails. I would try to find OEM or close to OEM parts if you do the job though. I always try to stick to that rule when making modifications because stuff that is not OEM or not made to fit like OEM tends to not have the clean look I am going for.

    • @bossadamsgarage

      Not at all. The rails are factory Honda CRV roof rails and cross bars so they are made to work flawlessly with the lift gate.

  • @pattdavis9390

    What a great video! Looking for advice: I use a soft clip-on cargo carrier (40" L), looking for a side rail solution for 2022 CRV EX but need the high-rise type to strap down on sides. Checking your product, the cross bars appear too narrow to support the carrier without adding a basket. Do you know of a high-rise brand that could be installed on the CRV? College Hills and other OEM suppliers don't seem to have any other than for the Odyssey (or not willing to help). Any tips you have would be appreciated. Thanks!

    • @bossadamsgarage
      @bossadamsgarage  Месяц назад

      I saw a few high rise brands on Amazon that supposedly fit, but I am not sure of their exact fitment. I chose to go a close to OEM as possible so that if I ever were to sell the vehicle, whoever buys it knows it is a quality product.

      You could probably get away with a hand saw. Just make sure the blade is sharp and you cut in a straight line.
