  • In this video I show you how to change the CVT transmission fluid in your 1.5L 2017-2022 Honda CR-V.
    ***Amazon Links***:
    FloTool Funnel: amzn.to/47lOaGf
    Honda HCF-2 fluid 1 QT: amzn.to/488vxXr
    Honda HCF-2 fluid 5 QTS: amzn.to/3U2JBgK
    Transmission drain plug crush washer: amzn.to/3RPW44Z
    3/8 Drive torque wrench: amzn.to/3NY2VrR
    Is this going to be your second or third time having the fluid changed? Might want to change the two filters in the transmission as well. Luckily, I made a video on how to change these filters, check it out here: • 2017-2022 Honda CR-V |...

    Great video, but just a note. At 7:47 you state to pull the fill plug before removing the drain plug. That's great, but be aware that instead of glugging out, the fluid will come out like Niagara Falls so move your drain pan way over accordingly. Trust me on this.

    The "large multi use funnel" from Walmart is what I purchased and it seemed to match what you had. Perfect fit.

    If this is your first time changing, I would measure the fluid that came out to double check to see if it's close to the recommended 3.9q fill capacity. Personally, I wouldn't bother with the check plug since you will need to check it at a certain transmission temperature because of thermo-expansion of the fluid unless you know what your doing with the diagnostic tool.

    • @Tom-ej8bb

    Do these have a small filter on one of the sides? I have a Nissan and it does and I know some Honda automatics had something like that too. With that said it seems to be something that may be common on Japanese vehicles. It's normal for CVTs, because they're belt driven and they get hot. Even the best-built CVTs are unreliable and can be finicky at best, meaning you should definitely keep that fluid changed probably even sooner than Honda recommends. 20k wouldn't hurt, and never past 30k.

      @@vincentlanza5155 I did keep adding fluid until it started running out... not too much more as it was right there, then I let it continue until it was barely dripping and put the plug back in... I let it drain for probably 1 1/2 hours, I guess most people don`t do that

    Does the CRV have a trans filter?

    • @spencersgarage
      @spencersgarage  Год назад +1

      Yes, there is a filter located behind the warmer and is internal to the transmission. However, Honda does not recommend replacing this filter for the normal life of the transmission. It would be replaced during a rebuild. But if you want to replace it be sure to also replace the three O rings.

    They say it's properly warmed up when the fans kick on twice.

      Indeed, the motor will be warmed up then. However, we are trying to warm up and get the fluids moving in the transmission.

    Why use Honda motor oil?

    • @biz4twobiz463
      @biz4twobiz463 2 года назад

      It's a preference. You technically can use any motor oil that meets Honda standards and is 0w-20.

      @gngan 2 года назад

      @@biz4twobiz463 0w-20 is what they suggested in US for "fuel efficiency". Many other countries use 5w-20 or others.

      @biz4twobiz463 2 года назад

      @@gngan ... well, technically you can use what ever oil you wish. But, if you have a warranty concern, then Honda will NOT cover the warranty if the spec of 0w-20 is used that meets the Honda spec. Again, for the USA market.

    Is that 2 washer same size ?

    • @Crewsy
      @Crewsy Год назад +1

      No.
      Drain plug is 18mm inside
      Check plug is 14mm I believe which is the same as the engine oil drain.
