Well done video. I can confirm 5 quarts is not enough when you change both filters. I was going off other sources of information and thought it would need about 3.5 quarts. I put five in and it still needs more. I'll need to pick up some extra bottles to get it filled properly. On my 2016 the battery and airbox are in opposite positions as what is shown in the video. It makes getting to the heat exchanger filter more challenging. I removed some of the plastic and went in from the bottom. Even with the battery removed the battery tray is in the way. The Wix filter kit (58732) does not contain the correct large o-ring for the front filter. It also contains a pan gasket but that too is wrong.
Great write up. The CR-V being level (as you stated ) is very IMPORTANT. Also very, very IMPORTANT Fluid Temperature is EVERYTHING when checking the fluid level via the check bolt after you have refilled the transmission. Avoid the step of having to add fluid during the check bolt procedure after refilling by adding (over filling) a half quart more than you removed. Get the engine and transmission temp up to operating temperature by having the fans kick on and off twice , go through the gears pausing for a couple seconds on each , do this twice then shut the car off and quickly get that check bolt off, let it drain to a light trickle then insert the bolt and to torque to spec. ( IR thermometer is handy for checking that the fluid was within normal operating temp 175 -195 Deg like a 10 mile average drive temp ) If the fluid is not at this temp and the cars gears were not just ran through, just prior to shutting the car off the level of the fluid will be incorrect. Wait to long and the transmission pan collects the fluid as it drains back into the pan , if the fluid is too cold (Cold fluid is more dense, takes up less space) and you fill until it leaks out you will be overfilled.
Great video! Super detailed and excellent camera views. I have a 2022 CRV EX AWD and I noticed by perusing some Honda parts websites that various replacement part numbers are different than what you use on your 2017 FWD. I'm not ready to do a filter change yet but for those who do make sure you have the right parts in advance. For example, the filter assembly in the main body has a different part number. Going directly to the Honda website to look up parts is probably best because you can see actual assembly diagrams with parts identified. Some of the other parts websites put out by various Honda dealers seem to have much more limited selection and they do not have the diagrams.
An absolutely superb job! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us in a very clear and accurate manner. Best wishes for your continued success on RUclips.
Excellent tutorial video. 👍 Thank you for posting very informative videos that also include the torque settings which may other automotive RUclipsr's fail to mention.
Well done video. Cleaning the fill "plug" top and sides keeps road dirt out of the transmission and keeping all mating surfaces clean is great. My sense is Spencer is right that filters are do every 3d (90,000 or so transmission oil change).
Once I finished watching the video, I thought mine transmission fluid was also already cleaned! Great video, with all details and specs!!! Thank you for sharing it!! I cannot imagine that car was driven by girl: it is clean in and out!!! Engine compartment looks like brand new!!!
Best video i have seen on this. I find it really difficult to remove the air intake box and to press it back in. It looks like after you press it in you have slide it to the smaller ring?
Gary, very nice and detailed video I found it helpful I just bought a 2019 CR-V 2.4 L. I will do a fluid and filter change with it at 90K if i understood you correctly. I bought it with approximately 50K and it was a certified vehicle so the dealer confirmed to me that they had done a transmission fluid change. Not sure about the filters. Anyway change all at 90K. You did not mention the transmission breather fitting/plug; I want locate and check/clean that as well. Where is it located. Thanks again for a excellent video... nice shop too.
Great video Spencer!!! Just completed this service on '19 EX-L thx to you. Why do other folks always leave out the torque settings? So important to have the correct specs. By chance have the valve adjustment video or a reference for one?
Super clean crv . I know here its only 80,000 miles, but still. Ive seen customers with the new CR-Vs with 35,000 miles and its trashed. Absolutely trashed, as in irreversible damage to the paint, and interior. I just dont get it. A clean car IS a happy car. Some people just dont care i guess.
@@spencersgarage I absolutely love maintaining and cleaning my 2019 civic coupe ex-t. People think I'm crazy for doing a drain and fill yearly. Oh well lol. I actually just did my warmer pre filter as I call it today. Did the pan filter and gasket at the start of summer. I don't use HCF-2 though, I actually use castrol transmax cvt. Have been since 20,000 miles. Really great stuff, it's red so it freaks people out. Red is just the dye. I'm at 78,000 now so I'm well out of warranty anyway I'm assuming lol. I've detailed cars for 20+ years , and enjoy keeping mine clean, obsessively clean some might say. Especially my engine bay. Great video! Keep that thing clean!
Looking at those filters, I think they could have easily gone 90k to 100k before replacement, magnets and pan looked good in my opinion, as well. I think the key is frequent fluid changes on these, every 20k or so. That's my plan, anyway.
IF I NOT CHANGE THE FILTER/ I JUST DRAIN THE OLD TRANSMISSION FLUID OUT/ ABOUT HOW MANY QUARTS DO I NEED TO ADD INTO. 2018 crv 1.5 turbo awd. help me find out please
Excellent video. The lack of music makes it more so.
Super clear and didactics explained. Congratulations.

Is this the 1.5L L15B engine?
That looks like a cast pan on it and not the pressed metal that is often found on many other transmissions.
Will this be the same on a 2024 civic with the cvt transmission?
is it the same way with honda HRV 2017?
You are good
I have a honda civic 2017 Lx with 136k miles and i dont know if i should still change the filter and transmission fluid
Would this work on a 2018 Honda CRV EX?

Why remove the CVT oil pan for a transmission fluid service on a such a new car?

3.9 qts for 2wd or 4.5 qts for AWD.
How many miles on it
90k
Anyone over 200,000 miles on their cvt?
