      Hello Christian.
      Thank you for your comment and I'm glad that people are liking these videos. In the future, I'll have a camera man so that everyone can see me work in real time instead of pausing and then completing the install. There will be more videos in the near future that go over reliability and what I think about it after driving on it. Right now I have 500 miles on it and I can't give a detailed answer on how the ride has changed. I'm gonna wait another 3 weeks, so stay tuned. And let me know if you order your suspension.

      Stryker of Seattle may I ask what website or store did you purchase your fox 2.5 suspension?

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  6 лет назад

      Hello Christian.
      I bought the suspension from Moore Racing In Las Vegas. I had to wait 1.5 months to get the suspension as items were on back order. Then my kit didn't include hardware, or the spanner wrench that the owner told me he would include. All in all, I'd take my business to All Pro Offroad or a local business that can get you a good deal. If your having a shop install your suspension, see if you can't have them order it because you might get discounts on parts and labor.

    Thank you for taking the time to put this together.

      Hello Arizonensis.
      Thank you for commenting, and giving positive feedback. It was difficult installing the suspension by myself and recording at the same time. But this video proves that you do not need a twin post lift, and it can be done by one person. The only draw back to working alone, is that it took about 12 hours to install (I had to learn how to do it as I was installing it). Looking back I'm glad I did it because when I need to have my suspension rebuilt, I'll be able to remove the shocks without bring it to a shop. Saves on a lot of labor; and gives you the insight of working on your own truck.

      @@pentzwerks I couldn't agree more with understanding the value of knowing the mechanics of the selected suspension and how it operates within these trucks, especially if a component of it fails or gets knocked loose on the trail, a more detailed inspection can be performed.
      Thanks a ton for taking the time to comment back and sharing the level of detail that you did.

    Nice video man! I've seen a bunch of suspension videos and everyone just seems to say take off said part then attach said part in its place. I'm sitting here thinking I don't even know what part that is he is talking about! Great job on explaining what you are doing as you are doing it!

      Front coil over resi are located on a bracket that is sandwiched between the frame and sway bar attachment. And the rear resi will have to be drilled, and Fox includes self tapping screws.

      Hello Jrbtolentino.
      I tried to keep the words to a minimum and keep it very informational. I did not include everything I wanted to show but I think it gives a good idea on how to install your suspension. If I could do it all over again, I would have done Camburg Billet UCA and KING 2.5 with NO leaf pack. Let me know how your install goes, hopefully someone has adjusted your preload correctly and your coil overs are ready to install.

      Stryker Seattle I’m planning on doing the install in a auto hobby shop will tools so I’ll be doing the pre load myself. I’m going to start with 10 turns which is 2” lift with the King. I’m planning on going with Dirt King UCA since they got a really good price on it. But out of curiosity why would you go Camburg?

      Hello Jrbtolentino.
      You can get Dirt King Control Arms for a great deal, I almost bought them because they were on sale. I would only go with Camburg Billet, because I like the CNC machined look and quality that they offer. Some other companies are offering machine billet UCA as well. Sounds like you're off to the right start, let me know if you have any questions for me.

Have someone look in the engine bay when you are putting the through bolt into the UCA. Best of luck, let me know when you have it all done and aligned.

      I would suggest extending the brake lines or transitioning to steel break lines if you off road heavily. I did not take my truck offroading so I did not extend them. I would say it's a requirement for long travel though. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  3 года назад

      Hello Anthony Vu.
      I've only called in twice to get measurement adjustments for preload on the front coil overs. I was able to get a tech on the phone in 5 minutes which was good. I choose fox because they are such a large brand with a spare parts warehouse. If I could do it over again, I'd go with extend travel 2.5 Kings with adjusters. Fox offers low speed and high speed, King overs one knob for compression. It's much easier to use the King suspension and it looks better.

    I just bought some fox 2.5 front coil overs and I’m a little nervous about adjusted the height, I want a 2.5 inch lift since I don’t wanna max out the shock, how many threads do I need showing to get that? And if I use the tape measured method where do I begin measurement. Sorry for taking your time replying

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  3 года назад

      Hello Michael.
      Watch my adjustment video:
      ruclips.net/video/g_b_5mMfOeQ/видео.html
      Please use a tape measure and do not count the treads. I was told this directly from fox. You'll measure from the top of the treads to the adjustment collar. I explain this is the video above. Start watching it at 3:15 or watch the whole thing for how to adjust the ride quality. As far as adjusting preload; I suggest having a suspension shop with a press adjust it for you. If it "jumps" the treads or you adjust it while on the truck you'll use a lot of force. I did this and almost ruined the adjustment collar with a punch.
      Let me know if you have any questions. I installed the suspension myself so I know what it's like to struggle through the install. Fox told me 1/2 of tread nets 1 inch of lift.

      2. How to adjust your DSC suspension, who would benefit most from this suspension.

      @@pentzwerks Also welded on the total chaos lower cam tab gussets & steering knuckle gussets. My welder buddy never did it before and they came with HORRIBLE instructions so he welded on the lca cam tab gussets wrong so we had to grind them down to meet the frame. Then as I was assembling the LCA on the passenger frame I noticed he welded one of the tabs that keeps alignment washer in place a quarter inch to far out. So we could weld on thousand TC LCA cam tab gussets a thousand more rimes and do it perfect every time. It didn’t say in the directions where the different size cam tabs go. Now they have those one and done alignment tabs that can be installed with them too. So my idea is to open up a shop and do 4x4 & hot rod builds and rent out space for DIY mechanics to come in with their tools and work on their vehicles. Probably have to check how much insurance would cost or have them waive their rights to sue form to sign because some people would rent one just so they could get a payday from the insurance and then my premiums would skyrocket. But it would give the DIY guys an advantage to have someone with build experience there to get technical support for things like that. Because first time doing anything mistakes are going to get made!

      I will post a video in the next coming weeks once the weather cools down in Washington. As of right now, the truck looks great and it rides like a dream. I'll document these tweaks in the next video so you won't have trouble installing them. Sounds like you ordered the right parts, did you buy the DSC Fox suspension or just resi?

      Perfect. This suspension is great on street and off road, and the non DSC Fox shocks are much cheaper than the high performance. Your ride quality will be 5/5 and you won't have to deal with installing upper control arms which is really nice. Removing the upper control arm are very difficult as you can tell from the video and you don't need to bend anything. It was a fun experience, but sometimes it worth having a tech do it for you. If you do not want pay a lot for UCA, go with dirt king or camburg UCA. Good walk through for the C/O and UCA install! Just wondering what you did for your passenger side UCA through bolt. I am having issues trying to clear the metal since it seems gusseted.
    Also, for my driver side, I fed the through bolt backwards so I don't have to re-bend the metal again.
    Other than that, informative video!

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello Timo Casa.
      Be extremely careful about putting in the upper control arm backwards, if the nut is not properly torqued down than the bolt can come out completely. I used a flat head screw driver / drywall spatula to wedge between the frame and the bolt and tapped it out with a pin and hammer till it came loose. The passenger side is more difficult as it's more camped due to the air filter.
      Thank you for commenting, let me know if you have any other questions. Be careful with putting the bolt backward, but companies like ICON tell you to put it in backwards for future maintenance.
      It'll also help to have someone help you, one person should be in the wheel well and someone should be looking through the top of the engine bay.

      @@pentzwerks
      That is a good point! If the nut is properly torqued (or re-torqued after at least 100 miles) the chances of the through bolt falling is unlikely. Of course, that, paired with a supplied nyloc nut, loctite, and visual inspection of hardware, will increase the security of that through bolt.
      Anyways, your video definitely helped out as I installed my UCA!

    My question is how did you like the Revtek kit that you had before? I had that Revtek kit on my old Tacoma and I put almost 100k miles on it with no issues!
    My second question is did you lose some ride height going from the Revtek spacer to the Fox coil-overs?
    My pavement princess is about to get a lift and I’m really leaning towards just getting another Revtek kit! I’ve also been leaning towards the Fox stage 2 extended coil over kit.
    I know I’m not hard on my truck and all I want is for it to look better- taller, so I’d hate to spend the money on the Fox kit if I’d be perfectly happy w another Revtek kit.
    Thanks man!

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello H Mac.
      I would definitely suggest going with a leveling kit if you're going to stay on the road. They're the most reliable option out of all the ways to lift your truck. The reason why I lost ride height is because the Fox suspension was designed for ride quality and not ride height, a leveling kit is the opposite with ride height as it's first goal. If I could do it all over again I would have kept my leveling kit as the Fox suspension was so much money and it had to be constantly adjusted. Leveling kits are definitely less maintenance. If you have any other questions, let me know. I know this was a short response, and I can provided a more detailed comparison. The answer will be the same though, go with the leveling kit.

      Stryker of Seattle Man I figured you’d say that!
      So I found a video that CustomWheelOffsets put out, and it’s about stacking lifts. I know- don’t do it. But let me run this by you.
      I’m now looking at the 4” BDS drop bracket lift. I don’t really want to go to 6”..
      Anyway, I’m thinking about NOT using the 4” top spacer that they include, and buying Fox coilovers for 2” of lift and then putting a 2” spacer on that, which will give me the same geometry as the 4” spacer but will give me the Fox ride quality. And since the drop bracket will realign the drive angles, the shocks will be safe from damage because the LCA will still hit the bump stop like the truck was at stock height!!
      Thoughts??

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello H Mac.
      I would not recommend stacking your lifts. This is dangerous as the spacer would be between the coil bucket that only has a 1 inch lip to make sure the coil over head does not move. By putting a spacer you're moving the coil over head lower where it could loosen and maybe fall out of place due to the bolts breaking. I would highly recommend not doing this. Also, I would not suggest doing anything over a 2 inch spacer. Anything taller in height will have more of a risk of breaking over time. My thoughts are siding with not stacking and choosing one or the other.

      Hello Christopher Alexander.
      For the Toyota Tacoma and 4Runner, the remote reservoirs are mounted between the frame and the sway mount brackets. In my Fox kit, they included 2 spacer brackets that moved the sway forward so you can put the mounts between the body and the mount. Once you have that installed you'll use the supplied wire / clamps to put through the mount brackets then around the reservoirs themselves. Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Replacing the Front Coil Overs, Rear Shock, Upper Control Arms and Leaf Pack does not void the warranty. I only discuss the warranty as a warranty on the aftermarket parts, if you install these parts yourself you might need to tinker with the set up. If you have the dealer install these parts, you can hold them responsible for any mistakes with installation, initial set up and future problems (obviously they will not cover abuse). Total weight estimation is probably around 300-350 lbs not including camping gears when out camping. I have about 2-2 1/2 inch droop in the rear cause of the weights I carry. Should I go with the Dakar AAL ELO95R or should I go with ELO96R? Do you know if both Dakar models use the same bushings? And do I need one pack of the bushings or do I need 2 packs?

      I would definitely suggest the EL095R Dakar Leaf Pack because of how much you care in your bed while camping. I replaced the stock leaf pack because my jet ski is 250 lbs and I did not want the rear to sage. I do not know of the EL096R (most likely it's the 3rd generation specific leaf pack) the EL095R fit perfectly on my truck. Now I feel comfortable putting loads in the back of my truck and transporting heavy objects. Look in the description for the parts list and URL to the parts. Hello Mcnasty3303.
      Reasons I purchased the TRD Offroad over the Pro in 2017
      1. Sunroof, TRD Pro did come with one in 2017
      2. TRD off road is cheaper than the Pro
      3. Did not want to pay for an over priced suspension that I would replace anyways
      4. I did not want leather seats, leather seats fade and wear with seat heats
      5. I wanted to buy my own truck and not just drive a TRD Pro stock
      6. I think Pro's are cool but they're over rated
      7. It's impossible to find a Pro at a good deal
      8. I wanted a manual and not an automatic, it's extremely hard to find a Pro in a manual
      The only reasons I would have bought a Pro is so that when I off road it hard then the dealer would replace everything. Since I have my fox suspension on it they point to the suspension if I have "any problems" even if it's not the suspension that caused it. All and all, if I could go back I probably would have bought a Pro so that everything would be warrantied. I had to pay $5300 in damages to my truck after installing the suspension due to improper installation (coil over pre load adjustment caused the sway bar to become disconnected, and wire harness got pulled when installing the upper control arms). All these problems were self inflicted by me, and only because I did not have someone helping me with the install.

      Hello PD_55.
      I'm going to make a video about these problems this week to further explain what had happened and how it can be fixed.
      Engine Harness Replacement $3995.00
      The through bolt for the upper control arm pulled on the engine harness wire that controls the airbag system. Dealer told me that the whole engine harness had to be replaced due to liability and reported it to Carfax. I had them replace the engine harness for liability reasons, the connect simply was pulled out of the plug and they didn't want to put the wire back into place. A fix to this solution is too be extreme careful when putting in the upper control arms or have a shop do it so they accept liability.
      Front Axle Replacement $1400.00
      The fox coil over require you to put a sway bar spacer kit in. The factory front coilers from Toyota correct for Tacoma lean, aftermarket shocks do not. Due to the high difference of 3/4 of an inch. The sway bar come loose from the spindle and ripped the speed sensor and ripped open the CV boot. Due to the fact the boot had to be replace, and all of the gease from the passenger side went to the drivers side I had the dealer replace the whole front axle.
      Both mistakes could of be corrected for and you can learn from my mistakes. Again, I'll go into detail about these problems in the next video. Let me know if this gave you a good idea about what I experience, be on the look out for the next video.

This would mean that you knew what you wanted as far as comfort and off road performance. If you have the DSC shocks you are able to tune your suspension on the fly when you exit the trail and you want a stiffer suspension for freeway driving. Hello Maka.
      My truck is a 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Offroad 4x4 In A 6-Speed Manual Transmission. I would suggest a leveling kit if you're going to keep your 2 wheel drive truck on the pavement only. It's 1/6 of a cost of the suspension that I put on my truck, and it's all you need if your not taking your truck off roading.

      I just installed these shocks and a spring compressor does more damage than good. I got a 5/16 punch and adjusted it while on the truck lifted off the ground with the wheel off. Used PB blast and a lot of muscle. please note: make sure the punch is all the way in the hole. Used a 22mm wrench to turn the punch using it as a breaker bar.

      With the manual transmission with a 3 inch lift with 285, my indicated MPG is around 18-19mpg. When you take into factor the tire size difference it's probably 20 mpg average. The manual transmission are geared differently than the automatic. I'd say prepare for a 2-3 mpg decrease once installing the lift and tires.

      Hello Thomas Carvalho.
      After contact Fox Racing Company, they suggested that I use a tape measure instead of counting the treads. You measure from the top of the coiler to the beginning of the tread count. On my truck I set the measurement of treads showing to 1.75 inches, this has netted to 2.25 of lift over stock. Remember, the 3rd generation tacoma came with 1 inch of lift already from the factory. After measuring the treads, I also added a 1/4 spacer to the top of the coiler on the drivers side to cope with tacoma lean (Driver & Gas Tank on Driver Side causes a 1/2 difference in height). Let me know if you have any questions. I'll count the treads but I highly suggest getting a tape measure and just measuring it as it's more reliable and what the Fox tech told me. Make it simply, just measure.

      Hello T A.
      Lift the truck on two jack stands on both sides and then use the floor jacket under the rear axle. When you start removing stuff, do the passenger side then the drivers side. Have a friend help you, the bolts that bolt the leaf pack to the truck have red lock tight on them so it will take some force.
      1. Lift the truck with two jacket stands located behind the rear door.
      2. Move the floor jack under the rear axles so you can control it and release tension on the leaf packs
      3. Remove wheels and tires, make sure you put them out of the way
      3. Remove the rear shocks
      4. Remove the Bolts
      5. Verify that you have control of the axle
      6. Lower the axle down to release flex from the pack
      7. Remove leaf pack (both sides at the same time)
      8. Insert the ALL
      9. Place leaf pack back in (leave the axle close to the ground)
      10. Attach U bolts on both sides
      11. Reattach the new rear shocks.
      12. Jack Up rear axle
      13. Tight all bolts down using (blue lock tight) do not use red
      14. Recheck everything
      15. Put tires back on
      16. Drive for 100 miles and retorque
      I hope this answers your questions, I installed everything by myself and it was difficult. My Dakar leaf packs are 75lbs a piece. Take a slow and follow the instructions above. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  4 года назад

      Hello Shade Ss.
      This deserves a very long response and review but I only have time for a short review of the suspension.
      Positives:
      1. Highly customizable right quality
      2. Unbeatable off-road performance
      3. Suspension looks bad ass
      4. You can firm up the suspension on the highway and loosen it on the off road roads
      Cons:
      1. It's so expensive for what it is, expect to pay around $5300 for this set up
      2. Do you off road enough to justify that price
      3. Maintenance can be costly (rebuilding shocks)
      4. It cost $1000 to install if you have a dealership or off road shop do it.
      The only con is the price and how much you'll use it. It's hard to sell trucks with these suspension on them because people assume that they were abused off road. Keep your old suspension so you can go back to stock if you sell the truck.
      It drives smooth off road and on road. Remember you can customize the ride quality by putting the knobs in different settings.
      Let me know if you have any other questions. I'll make a video in the future about this suspension but I sold it 3 months after installing it due to damage it caused my truck.

      Hello Kevin Naira.
      I ended up using a dry wall applicator; similar to a puddy knife to help guide the bolt around the frame. The passenger side is much for difficult, basically you need to put the puddle knife between the frame and bolt to help guide it out after tapping on it from below. I would recommend having two people help you; one to watch the bolt as it comes out and the other to slowly tap it out. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello Eddie Sanin.
      First off, congratulation on buying your new Tacoma. As for your suspension question, lets narrow down that question and find you what you're looking for. The leveling kit is the most reliable of lifts you can do with the truck, and the dealership won't give you grief over them. Since I installed my Fox suspension, I've had to pay $5,500 in damages due to a engine hardness issue caused by the upper control arms and a front axle due to the sway bar coming loose. I've removed my fox suspension and went back to my leveling kit as it's more reliable. What is your budget for this lift? Do you want to replace the upper control arms? Do you want a comfortable ride, does ride quality matter? What brand of suspension do you like (fox, icon, king, arb, bilstein)? If your'e only looking to replace the shocks and coil overs in the front I'd suggest a toytec lift in the front and maybe leave the rear stock? Do you load your truck bed with stuff, is so you might want to replace the rear stocks. Answers the questions and I can help point you in the right direction. My thoughts would be to stick with the leveling kit if you're not doing any off roading and log roads are maintained so you do not need a beef suspension to handle them. If I could go back, I would have help my truck with the leveling kit instead of buying a $4000 suspension and paying $5500 in damages to replace parts that were broken by the suspension.

      @@pentzwerks Really? I have a 2016 Tacoma TRD Sports and have been thinking about the Fox 2.5 Coilovers. My truck is ready for a new sets of tires and thinking about installing the TRD rims with 285/70R17 tires. So the best way to go is the leveling kit with 1.25 spacer maybe?

    • @pentzwerks
      @pentzwerks  5 лет назад

      Hello@@csreyesccm.
      The fox 2.5 coil over and rear shocks are a great suspension, and the DSC model is even better when it comes to adjustment. I've had both a leveling kit and the fox suspension, and if you're only lifting your truck to drive on the street then get the leveling kit. If you off road every weekend and want a really nice ride on the road and off road, go with the fox suspension. If you want to stay compliant with your Toyota warranty install the RevTek leveling kit. If anything goes wrong with your tacoma after you've installed it, most dealerships will use it as a scapegoat to every problem you experience. The 285 tires will fit with both suspension set ups, if you end up buying the fox suspension have someone install it so they accept liability if anything goes wrong. If I could go back I would have stayed with the leveling kit, and saved $4000 for the suspension and the $5000 in damages it caused (engine harness and sway bar linkage). Let me know if I answered your question. It all depends on what you use your truck for and whether or not it justifies having an expensive, high performance suspension. If you go with the fox suspension, a lot of people will approach you with questions about the suspension. The 2.5 coil overs are as large in diameter as the stock ford raptor suspension.

      @pentzwerks  6 лет назад +1

      Hello JKD0629.
      Kings and Fox are very similar (both progressive), but they use different ways of offering the same performance. The reasons I choose Fox over King are:
      1. Rebuild-ability - I can send them into the Fox Factory to be rebuild within a few weeks
      2. Aesthetics - I do not like the shinny blue color, and I prefer the black and anodized aluminum
      3. Spare Parts - If I need something the Fox Factory will have it in stock
      4. Public Image - Fox is on everything (mountain bikes, razors, off road trucks and car)
      5. Longevity - Fox has been around a long time, sometimes these off road companies disappear (I'm not saying King will, but it's a possibility)
      There will be people that side with either Fox or King, both are great companies. If I could do it again, I would go with King's because of the way they mount on the truck. If you're going to buy a high performance suspension, you might as well show it off.

      Suspension settling means that the springs in the coilers in the front have a chance to compress under the vehicle weight. For example, if you install a new coiler and have the preload set to 2.9 inches. It will settle to 2.75 after the truck weight is put on the coilovers. When getting your suspension to settle it is advised to roll it back and fourth, or drive it a mile or two. You will only need to do adjusting if you want more or less lift height. In the next two weeks, I'll be taking my front suspension off and readjusting the pre load so that I get 3 inches of lift.

      From the factory the rear sits about 1 inch so when you put the Dakar leaf pack in, it sits about 3 inches high in the rear. You should have no problems with the rear shocks being shorter if you do not fully flex your suspension in the rear, you should be fine. All and all, you will not have a problem. The rear shocks I installed were made for the Tundra so they have 13 inches of travel and not 12 inches, but 12 inches should be fine.

Since they reported it to carfax I had to replace it because of liability (if you know something doesn't work correct and do not replace it, you can be held responsible).

      Hello Mustanglx.
      I checked out your videos and I like the read skid plate, did you just paint the factory skid plate? Nice sports edition, looks like it can handle being off road just fine. Thanks for the commenting, let me know if you have any questions.

      Hello Mustanglx.
      Excellent, it looks good and it's eye catching. I might do the same thing but paint mine a silver color to match my Fox shocks.

    How do the fox 2.5s ride compared to your revtek set up on the road? and offroad? I have the revtek setup and am contemplating getting fox 2.5s

      Hello PhilSiri.
      Upgrading to the Fox 2.5 DSC Suspension is a $3500 investment, and that does not include labor. If you install it yourself you still need to have the tools, which will cost around $200 alone. The suspension ride of the REVTEK is similar to stock, the Fox Suspension feels more stiff if you do not weight the truck down with rock sliders, front bumper, rear bumper or canopy. If you are going to upgrade your suspension, I would suggest leaving the stock leaf pack alone. Ride quality improved as I can tune it to whatever driving I was doing on and off road. I would only upgrade if you're committed to owning your truck for a long time. I sold mine for a $200 loose which is extremely rare, I kept everything in pristine condition. You can always do Fox 2.5 coil overs without Resi, and Fox 2.0 in the rear and it'll cost less than half the amount I paid. This way you'll leave your UCA and leaf pack alone saving you money in labor and time. Let me know if you have any questions, I did not see a significant difference on road but a dramatic difference off road. It absorbed a lot of dips and bumps off road which made driving trails a breeze.

      @@pentzwerks Hey thanks for the reply! Yes I'm looking at just the Fox 2.5 non resi, and can do the work myself. I already have a 2" add a leaf in the rear with TSB leaf pack. I bought my truck with the revtek already instealled, but the damper recently has started leaking and I wanted to upgrade to something better.
      I do drive a significant amount of miles on the road and want to make sure the fox set up is not uncomfortably stiff. I plan to do a UCA regardless but am stuck deciding the fox coilover or an bilstein 5100 with OME lift springs to match my rear lift
