    Every time I have gas for some other bass I need to come back to this video and remind myself why I have this bass. It won't do everything, but what it does is freaking amazing. Great video. Thank you!

      @@nickk5948 Yeah. This is my third JMJ (made the mistake of selling this model twice before). I went through a whole spiral last summer where I bought 10 basses I've always considered, or thought this would compare to and made my mind up that this is one I need to keep in the stable at all times. I've got LaBella's on it and it's awesome. I also really like the stock Fender flats. My only other bass is a Hofner Club with GHS Flats. Sometimes I feel the urge to pick up a Stingray or something, but then I get in and just play this bass and after a day, the urge goes away. It feels great and you can just get some really nice tones from it.

    I have one of these bad boys and cannot recommend them enough. I had not played a short scale before this and after playing this for weeks, which of course you do with a new toy, a full scale bass felt expansive. I found getting around a full scale neck easier after playing this for some bizarre reason. Messing with my brain. Just get one. The tone will melt your face.

      Yeah I wouldn't tell any beginner to start out on a short scale bass. They should always start out with the standard 34 inch long scale neck because that's, you guessed it, the standard.

    • @nekot9274
      @nekot9274 3 года назад +13

      @@McDoinky The standard is an arbitrary norm, you should always play what fit you best regardless of what other people think...because they are not you.

    • @McDoinky
      @McDoinky 3 года назад +2

      @@nekot9274 it’s not about normality, it’s about practicality. If I were starting out on bass now, I’d want to learn to play what’s considered the standard instrument and be able to learn further from there. I wouldn’t want to rely on the easiest way to do it because it’s not always the best way to do it. Anyone can play long scale, it’s all about technique

    • @nekot9274
      @nekot9274 3 года назад +7

      @@McDoinky Still cant see a point here, you can have a full career on a short scale plus why align on a arbitrary thing would be practical? Anything you can do on a 34, I can on a 30, so why should that be even easyer, you still need solid tech to do a proper and consistent slap, whatever you are playing. And why not say the same about 42 inch scale, the one of a doublebass that was here before electric bass? Seriously, cant se your point.

    I played one of these recently at a local shop, and man, the hype is real with these basses. The pickup sounds amazing, the neck feels so good (not as fat or wide as a P, not as slim as a J bass- the perfect middle ground). There’s a song by All American Rejects called “Gonzo” that this bass absolutely nails the tone of with the flats when you roll the tone down to around 7. It just has such a cool sound and vibe.

    I thought they banned spraying Nitro in the early 2000's. that was the story about the highway one instruments was that they were assembled in the US in California then trucked down highway one to be sprayed in Mexico. Glad to hear this one is Nitro. Been looking for a nitro sprayed bass and this model in particular.

    • @EmpireMusicPgh
      @EmpireMusicPgh  4 года назад +6

      It's not better or worse, just different. I bit rounder and warmer than an American Perf. The pickup sounds and feels a bit underwound, so there is that nice natural compression. It's strung with flats too so that adds top the warmth. It's a little chunkier in the neck profile too.

      They shouldn't, however when any bass/guitar is stored in dry environments, that can happen. In our experience it's rarely a sign of poor manufacturing, but a sign of poor storage. Either way, a good tech/luthier can handle that work. Thanks for watching - Anthony
