I tried out the black one at Guitar Center yesterday. It was really really nice. I was almost tempted to trade my current P Bass for it, if only because it must weigh at least one pound lighter, and the neck felt amazing.
I'm glad they put the rosewood back again like the Vintera series. The Player series was already a good compromise between the Squier Classic Vibe and the american entry level, but, in Italy this Player II is 920 euros (more or less 940/50 bucks) and you can find the Vintera II at 1150 euros and sometimes even at 1050 on discount. So my answer is: why gettin' so close to the higher Vintera Series with the entry level one? More: for 920 euros no bag? I don't get it actually. Sometimes it seems that the Fender marketing doesn't think like the common customer and doesn't do basic home economics... Wonderful video as always, by the way! 👋👋👋👋👋❤
Appreciate U putting the bass thru different sonic outputs & styles of playing. Two points: 1) The bridge: Easy intonation ? Intonation stability ? 2) Pots: Does each pot have a 1/2 way middle home point of reference ? Pots made out of plastic or metal ? Note: I do like the bass I viewed on this video.
SO far so good on the bridges/intonation on the basses we've received. No 1/2 points, and that's not something we see on Fender P's. Not sure on the material for the Pots... sorry. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I’ve just bought one. Great review. I had the choice alongside an American Professional II and the Player II was much lighter. I preferred the tone and the price difference seems madness in light of that. I have a 3 tone burst. Light weight was my no1 priority with a fractured spine and osteoporosis.
@@davidwright2093 I’m going Vintera ii 60s precision, I got the Vintera 50s p bass and I love that bass, going to pull the trigger soon on it. A little more expensive than the player ii , just my 2 cents.
@davidwright2093 I'm eyeing the Dakota Red Vintera I 50s Precision bass now more than ever. The new colors are cool but not enough to justify the $300 increase. Besides other than the thumb rest and colors, nothing is different. Both maple boards with the same specs and the pickups are the same.
I feel the build quality on the player series is better than the American these days. I once found a hair within the paint on an American pro II. I’ve noticed many other issues with American fenders.
I would strongly disagree w/ that as a whole. Sure they both have their isolated issues, and the majority of both actually come though in good shape. We see WAY MORE issue with MIM product. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I do respect your knowledge and experience. Do you have an email address ? I can send you pics from the next I get to check an American bass. Not to fight about it, I just wanted to talk about this and show these issues to someone knowledgeable. I’m sure Fender will listen to you.
I'm curious to see what kind of fsr's they come out with in six months or so...shell pink with a matching headstock could spell trouble for my finances
Depends on what you want as a player. More vintage sounds/looks= Vintera. Slightly more versatile and Modern = Player II. Can't go wrong with either on. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I just picked up my first Am Pro II P Bass. I am curious to pick one of these up and compare them side by side. Thanks for the review! You always do a great job.
My AM Pro II P bass is by far my best quality bass. Very close seconds are the MIJ. The MIM are certainly very good but I've put money into them and they personally aren't worth the brand new price.
The neck of a Am Pro II P bass (the shape) is what makes it a must buy in my opinion over the player series. That and extra neck stability with the rods.
AM Pro II - V- Mod II Pickups, Slim C neck profile, Posiflex Graphite rods in the neck, Hi-Mass Bridge, and Bone Nut. I would view all of those as upgrades over the the Player II. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I firmly believe the USA stuff is higher quality and better built. That said the MIM is killer. They are at different pricepoints for a reason. Expectations and playing experience are different, and that's ok. Player II's have been great so far. Thanks for watching - Anthony
I like pretty much everything about the Player 2 series in general, except for the color choices. There's only 1 or 2 in each category (Strat, Tele, P-bass, etc.) that I'd actually consider, the rest are either ugly, or they have a pickguard color that doesn't really compliment the body color. They should come out with a few more color options.
I play country and always use a PBass. It’s like that girlfriend who isn’t great looking but is a dependable partner……you can find better looking but is the drama worth it?
A P Bass is classic, keep it that way, the only things they change is give us a bit more for our money...why would you change one of the most staple designs, you just don't.
Yes and No... They do their thing very well, and there will always be a need/market for a trad P or J bass. Why not make it a Fender in your collection? But some fresh ideas wouldn't be bad to see every now and again from them. Your stance and opinion is a valid one for sure. Thanks for watching - Anthony
So they just rolled the edges and all in a sudden that makes it a different series? Dont get me wrong, i love fenders but they are taking this marketing thing way too far

Liking the look of the Birch Green. The rolled fingerboard edges are definitely an upgrade.
