@@amysarg CITES regulations meant you couldn't use rosewood for a quite a while. The regulations were later changed to allow it, so they went back to it but had surplus boards (or so people are claiming). I much prefer rosewood, although Indian Laurel was quite a nice replacement if you couldn't get rosewood. Pau Ferro was...okay.
@@MaksHedlund Yeah, that makes sense. They're going to use up what they have. Bullet Squiers have the super-thin nut width, so the boards they had were probably already cut to that so they used them. Have to think if they were usable on more expensive guitars, they'd have used them.

Just bought Player 3 days ago. I was dreading the new release and the thought that I have just screwed it up but luckily not much change between the two iterations.

My first Strat was a 93 MIM Strat Special with HSS and only one tone knob. In place of the second was a coil splitter for the humbucker. It was sunburst but back then they made that backs solid black.
I already ordered my new P bass in that birch green! I can’t wait. I love my player p; this update is exactly what it needed to make it the perfect bass for me. These new colors are killer too.

I love they brought back the trem on the Jazzmaster... which will eventually be changed for a mastery, but the route is there and that's what matters.
They moved the trem to be closer to the bridge so it's close but not quite traditional
I want the red Tele with the black pickguard and Maple fretboard, I'm ordering one today!

the lack of rosewood is literally the one thing that has stopped me from buying one so far. Good. On top of that they offer rolled edges AND the tuners I like most. 100% win

Rosewood never left. Buying a new guitar nowadays is wild. I'll always prefer the used market.
I’m so glad that Rosewood has made a return on these. I think if they had put the smaller headstocks on these I’d be lining up but honestly, I don’t mind Pau Ferro on my 2018 Player Strat.
(Edit I must be blind as these are the regular sized headstocks!😅)
I was gifted 69 custom shop pickups and they’re in the guitar as well lovely sounding and I’m always grateful

I wouldn’t mind the pau ferro but for the color. I don’t mind maple but for the color. I just like the way a dark fretboard looks. There’s lighter rosewood, and I don’t like it. “Ah, man, that’s all aesthetics!” Yeah, no shit, but it’s my money, and I like what I like.
Great playing you guys! Sounds like Fender heard what ticked all of us Player buyers off. I returned TWO Players because the fretwork was horrific and I didnt like the bridge or tuners. Im excited to order this new Rosewood player series! I hope these issues have been fixed. Birch green looks Sick 😍
£699 (MIM strat) for the specs being offered, is actually a decent price. I'd be tempted, if I didn't already have enough strats.

Long time subscriber of your channel. I don't come here only for the guitar playing. That I can get from hundreds of other channels. I have been coming here over the years mainly for the British humor man, although that has gone a little soft nowadays compared to the good old days, which is understandable LOL, and maybe a little bit of guitar playing. The telecaster range is basically sunburst from the 1st player series but now with a black pick guard, same for polar white with a rose wood finger board same as last time and an off butterscotch blonde or yellow they are calling it so almost no change since player series. Cheers fender for total lack of options. 😡

Have they modified the pickups? It sounds less harsh & aggressive than the previous Player Strat.
It is currently paradise for the mid and entry level guitarist. Gibson and Fender are using their classic recipes and thanks to Epiphone and this Fender series you can get a hell of a lot of guitar for your money now. I'm getting one of these. Great demo guys.
Pete mentioned fitting vintage bridge to the Tele maybe a video of him doing this and a sound comparison would be interesting !

It really is a bit daft but me, having been closer to camp of "if the Strat has needed so many mods, upgrades etc.over the years, was it even playable originally?", yep I have often thought " oh my god! not again!

I agree Pete, that was the first thing I did was pop off that crappy tele bridge and install a vintage 3 barrel Pat Pending Fender bridge with classic brass saddles and what a difference in look AND sound! cheap and easy upgrade! Nice guitars, I love the Player series AND the Vintera, have two from each!

I believe Pete mixed with Koa. Allegedly Koa wood can only be harvested from Hawai if the tree falls naturally. I could be wrong though.

Man, any deviation from the Tele formula is sacrilege to me. If you want a humbucker, get a guitar that should have one, not a Tele. (kidding really...get what you like).

I saw a Candy Apple Red chambered Strat on the screen. It had a rosewood fingerboard. Would there be a CAR one with maple fingerboard? Would there be one of those 60th anniversary ones that Lee mentioned, in CAR? I really want one.
Are they making Left Handed versions of the Telecaster Player II with the same different Pickup configurations available Right Handed?
There's Lee doing some damage limitation around 22:10, when Pete said the wrong thing! I like six-saddle bridges, but this design places the fixing screws directly under the saddle adjustment screws. Also, I've seen Teles with this bridge, where the string spacing is too wide at the saddles, so the strings are too close to the fretboard edges above the 12th fret. Fender really should sort that out.
I noticed that too. I like the six saddle bridge in theory but the screws are hidden like you said and the width can be an issue tor some
alnico 5 would give a natural treble sound love that
It is misleading putting new pickups in the title. As the most popular models, Strat and Tele, have the same old player pickups.
I went into this thinking, "Here we go again". £999 for no real change other than "new pickups". But, to be fair to Fender. These are nice upgrades for very little extra money.

Hopefully they're better coming out of the factory than my original Player was. Bowed neck, poorly cut nut, flat spots on the bridge saddles and a few other things had me shaking my head at Fender quality to the point that now I've gone to G&L and my Player went to somebody else.
Can someone explain to me, what did he say about the Telecaster bridge ? "replace it cause it looks cheap ?"

I’m curious what the pickup change is, my friend has a 2021 player strat and it just sounds so thin, I have a 98 MIM strat that’s just fuller and sounds better no matter what amp is being used
yeah same experience.
I think the pick up changes are on the Jaguars and Jazzmasters which now have Jaguar and Jazzmaster pickups instead of humbuckers. Otherwise, the fender website just called them "player series" pickups, specifying eg "alnico 2" or "alnico 5" or whatever.
Those 98 strats had ceramic pickups? it's funny i remember people disliking them because they're darker than traditional alnicos
@@takemebacktothenYeah I believe it has the ceramics, maybe the brighter Alnico are more “strat-correct” but I think my strat sounds like a strat, the difference is like having a clean boost on, not really louder just fatter
@@sagittated yeah it’s funny the changes Fender make for a few years then switch it up. I have a “blacktop” Jazzmaster, which were MIM from 2010-15 something like that. It’s just a Jazzmaster with a humbucker at the bridge and no rhythm circuit. Awesome guitar!
I had a player series, sounded okay but didn't like it as much as my Highway 1 so sold it! Maybe these are better!

Welcome additions to an already good guitar...provided Ensenada have improved their quality control.
Bought a SSS Player in Tidepool Blue in November, had to return the first one I received because the neck was not fitted properly into the neck pocket (screwed too tight on one side, paint - and probably the wood underneath cracked, neck not in contact with the body on the other side), also had to return the second one after a couple of weeks, the tremolo bar and the supplied adjustment hex wrench were not the right ones for the bridge.
Had to wait another 3 months to get my guitar back from supplier (not Anderton) because the components were not available at Fender's.
Definitely not what I expected from a guitar at this price point with the Fender brand on the headstock, even if the neck feels great (and should feel even better with rolled edges), the pickups sound as you would expect from a true Strat, the 2-point tremolo bridge is very usable and stable (even floated) even if the play of the (right) tremolo bar is still annoying.
I'm really excited about the upcoming release of Chambered Body😊

Been wanting a mahogany tele for a long time!
I recently just bought a new player strat made in Mexico blueburst and It was a dud just too many issues including tuning fret buzz... I returned it. Kind of gave me a bad taste about new fender guitars. If it's details their improving, how about a good set up and strings from the factory
Rolled edges was much needed. Sharp frets seemed to be a huge prob with the player 1s.
The volume control looks very close to the bridge pickup. Am I mistaken?

This or the Player Plus? I just wanted to buy a PP but now I'm not so sure which one to get
Player plus comes with locking tuners + noiseless pickups, rolled edges as well.
